What is needed to make a lampshade with your own hands for a paper chandelier? First of all, you need to decide on the basic concept of the future lamp and choose the material for its manufacture. Depending on your own imagination, you can use wire, thread, lace, glass jars, balloons and many other suitable items.

They soften and smooth out all sharp corners, create muted diffused light, an unusual, romantic and mysterious atmosphere. Paper lamps can be made in any style that is most suitable for a particular room.

DIY paper chandelier: step-by-step instructions

Currently, when decorating premises, it is becoming increasingly popular East style. Similar trends have not bypassed chandeliers made with one’s own hands. Their original design adds vibrant colors, brightness, and festive feelings to the interior. To obtain similar results, examples of Chinese chandeliers and lamps, recreated using paper and other improvised materials, are most often used.

First of all, you need to think through the construction and design of the paper chandelier, and only after that should you select all the components and components. To make a chandelier, you can use plain or rice paper. It is recommended to choose translucent, white or colored sheets. To give the future product maximum resemblance to the Chinese original, you should still take rice paper for work.

It is best to purchase a new cartridge. Old cartridges can be used after careful inspection, if there are no visible defects or damage. Bulbs used in paper chandeliers should not heat up. Therefore, most the best option will be . Additionally required wooden planks for the frame, ruler and pencil, stationery knife, awl and thread.

The assembly procedure is performed in the following sequence:

  • A diagram according to which the marking will be made is drawn up in advance. To mark, you must use the reverse side of the paper.
  • Then the paper is carefully folded along the marked lines. This is an important stage of the entire operation, on which depends appearance future chandelier.
  • Next, the socket and light bulb are assembled into a single whole.
  • At the next stage, the frame is assembled in accordance with the dimensions of the paper lampshade.
  • The last step will be to attach the paper elements to the frame. The paper can be glued or simply inserted into wooden frames. In the future, this will make it much easier to replace light bulbs and avoid damage to the lampshade.

The main difficulty lies in the correct assembly of the frame, which is the basis of the entire chandelier. If all actions are performed correctly, the result will be smooth and beautiful product. All that remains is to apply the painting to your taste, and the chandelier is ready for use.

Lampshade for chandelier made of paper tubes

One of the original and unusual options for paper chandeliers is the lampshade, for the manufacture of which they use paper straws. This design, except ceiling lamps, fits perfectly with table lamps, floor lamps And wall sconce, thanks to the soft, dim light.

Paper tubes are used as the main elements of this structure. To make them, you can take a newspaper or colored paper. The most important thing is that the resulting lampshade fits organically into the interior. The required number of tubes is made in accordance with the size of the lamp, but not less than 100 units. They are fastened with PVA glue, as a result of which a required form, which can be square, round, oval or arbitrary. Most often, you get a DIY paper ball chandelier that fits into the interiors of most rooms.

Laying out the tubes begins with the first row, and then all other elements are built on it. It is necessary to pay attention to the correct construction of the walls. At first, they should gradually expand towards the center, that is, the diameter of the entire structure increases, and after passing through the middle of the lampshade, it also gradually decreases. After drying, the finished lampshade can be painted in the desired color by applying paint from a spray can. As a result, the product is solid and smooth, without any defects.

Chandelier with butterflies

There are other options for making similar lampshades. For example, quite original solution There will be butterflies applied to a paper chandelier with your own hands.

The finished product is most often used. Except traditional materials, you will additionally need thick cardboard used for the base of the lampshade. Silhouettes of butterflies are pre-cut out on this cardboard according to a template. When the lights are turned on, they cast beautiful original shadows on the walls.

There are many other options homemade chandeliers, made not only from paper. They can be made from any inexpensive materials, most suitable for your interior.

Master Class

A chandelier in a room is not only a lighting fixture. Without exaggeration, we can say that it is the main decoration of the room. Handmade items are considered especially valuable. This allows us to highlight the special taste of the owners of the home, as well as their extraordinary and creative mind. Of course, this type of work is quite complex and requires increased concentration. But at the same time, when creating decorations for your home, you can find many interesting and extraordinary solutions in it!

This article presents some ideas for decorating a chandelier with your own hands, as well as instructions for them. Everything is written so simply and clearly that anyone can do it at home.

In order to make a chandelier, sometimes they use the most unusual materials. For example, everyone is already familiar with glass or wood, plastic, and so on. But sometimes, when you want something completely “unusual,” wooden skewers, glass wine bottles, jars, all kinds of tree branches, cardboard, and even straw come into play. You need to choose depending on the idea of the creator and the wishes of the apartment owners. It is also necessary to take into account general interior premises where the finished product is supposed to be placed.

Interesting idea for a chandelier made from plastic spoons

Plastic spoons for disposable meals are one of the simplest and most easily available materials for creating a chandelier for a room. Their advantages are low price, variety color range and such material will last quite a long time for a long time. To create such an extraordinary chandelier, you will need a minimum of investments, both physical and material.

Materials:

  • empty drinking water bottle, 5 liters;
  • plastic spoons (their number depends on the size of the bottle);
  • glue for plastic;
  • old chandelier(or rather, a cartridge from it);
  • sharpened knife.

Process of creation:

  1. First you need to prepare plastic bottle for subsequent actions. Remove the label in advance, cut off the bottom, dry well.
  2. Then you need to remove the plastic spoons from the packaging and carefully cut off the unnecessary handles with a knife, leaving about 2-3 centimeters above the level of the “scoop”.
  3. You need to glue the scoop blanks to the base of the bottle. Apply to the remaining “tail” a large number of glue and press it to the surface (with the convex side of the spoon facing out). It is necessary to cover the entire bottle in a circle until the entire perimeter is occupied by plastic “spoons”. It is advisable to arrange them in a checkerboard pattern and slightly move them together. This will leave fewer “free spots”.
  4. With the old one unnecessary chandelier you need to remove the cartridge, and then place it in an already glued and dried bottle and fix it to the frame.
  5. A decorative bowl can also be made from plastic spoons: “scoops” are glued around the neck of the eggplant.
  6. Install and connect the chandelier, check its operation.

Note! The option of decorative painting or painting spoons in absolutely any color is possible. Thus, your product will look even more beautiful and more original!

Chandelier made of plastic bottles in the shape of leaves

One more an unusual option The interior will feature a chandelier in the shape of leaves. It is created from simple plastic bottles, the variety of colors of which allows you to work in the most unusual colors and embody the most daring ideas.

Process of creation:

  1. Cut plastic bottles into blanks shaped like future leaves.
  2. For each workpiece, the sheet shape is finally fixed.
  3. Using a soldering iron with a thick tip and a one-sided bevel, you need to slightly fuse the sections of each leaf in order to give the future product the greatest effect.
  4. In the same way, using a soldering iron, you need to give the workpieces a sheet structure. You need to act extremely carefully and accurately, because you can easily make a hole in the plastic. Such a leaf with outlined veins and slightly fused edges will look complete.
  5. Using a hot needle, you need to melt several holes at the “leg” of each leaf in order to attach them.
  6. Using thin wire, form branches and screw them to a steel wire frame.

Also great idea There will be the production of a new chandelier in the form of a lampshade for a floor lamp or a lamp for a table. Thus, it will be a great addition to the previous product!

Chandelier with paper butterflies

The most common product option is a chandelier with butterflies. And this is not without reason. Let's start with the fact that this option looks luxurious and expensive, and secondly, its production does not require any special physical costs. Thus, even a child can participate in creating a chandelier.

Process of creation:

  1. It is based on either an old chandelier or a similar frame. If you don’t have one, then you can take the simplest wooden or metal rim. If such material is not available, then, as an option, you can take thick wire and make about 2-3 skeins, so that a circle is formed.
  2. Cut out butterflies from paper according to the template. You need to take the butterfly template and adjust it to the desired size. The option also looks very unusual when butterflies of several sizes are located on the chandelier (again, depending on desire). Transfer the outlines onto paper and carefully cut out, preferably with a sharp stationery knife, or small, non-rounded scissors. For the templates themselves, it is better to use a material that is dense, does not become very dirty and does not attract dust. For example, velvet paper is very poorly suited for the product, because in the future you will need to vacuum the chandelier quite often.
  3. Take a nylon thread or transparent fishing line and attach the butterflies to it. There are two types of fastening: either piercing the bodies of the butterflies, or gluing them with silicone glue.
  4. Next, we attach the threads with butterflies to the base of the frame and decorate it.
  5. You can also try interesting option, if you make a wire ball! It should be based on a pendant from a chandelier and placed on it using glue gun several butterfly patterns.

Fabric chandelier

This chandelier is also based on a frame. As in the previous version, either old metal frames or thick wire are suitable for its manufacture.

After you have pre-prepared the base, start cutting out the fabric from which the lampshade will be made in the future. How long the finished product will be depends on your desire, but it is worth considering that the width of the fabric must be the same as the diameter of the frame! Once you finish the pattern, you need to do a fitting.

Another nuance is that the top of the fabric will need to be sewn directly on the frame, which means that it (the frame) must be solid. Otherwise, if it is possible to thread it directly into the fabric, then you should first bend the top edge of the pattern and stitch it, and then iron it. Then we sew a seam on the side of the product.

To prevent the lampshade from losing its shape, you should pay due attention to the material. If the fabric is too light, “airy,” then the bottom of the product should be weighted. You can use cardboard or fishing line for this.

Carefully sewn fringe, lace or braid will look just as beautiful. But do not “overload” the product! The process of creating a fabric chandelier is similar to making a lace chandelier. So you can safely experiment with the materials that are placed on the frame.

Lamp made of threads and a balloon

Materials:

  • dense threads, such as wool, cotton, or jute rope - at least 1 meter;
  • cartridge;
  • petrolatum;
  • PVA glue;
  • a brush for applying glue and Vaseline (it is advisable that the brush does not fade);
  • 1 or 2 pieces balloons(the first in order to work with it, and the second in order to check the finished product, if desired);

Process of creation:

  1. Inflate the balloon to a certain size and secure it. Remember that the finished work will exactly follow the outline of the ball! Using a marker, draw a couple of circles at the top and bottom in order to determine the boundaries of thread winding.
  2. Using a brush, coat the entire perimeter of the ball with Vaseline.
  3. PVA pour into plastic container and thoroughly process the threads with it (It is not advisable to apply glue to the entire length of the threads at once! Process them as you wind them around the ball!).
  4. Taking into account the boundaries that you drew with a marker, wind the threads around the ball. Do not forget that the future appearance of the product depends on the density with which you wind it.
  5. After wrapping, you need to leave the product for a day until it is completely dry; After complete drying, you need to burst the ball and remove it through the holes.
  6. Cut a spot in the top and insert the cartridge.
  7. To be completely sure that the product is strong, you can insert a balloon into it and inflate it. In a similar way, you can check the flexibility and reliability of the lampshade.

Alternatively, you can paint the structure with a spray can or acrylic paint, attach all kinds of decorative ornaments, such as butterflies, artificial flowers or beads. Also, a great idea would be to arrange several balls in the form of a bunch of grapes and fasten them together.

Wine bottle chandelier

This version of the chandelier is a little more complex than the previous ones. Making a chandelier this way is quite difficult; the manufacturing process will require care and attention. However, you will like the result!

Materials:

Process of creation:

  1. First you need to prepare the bottle itself for further manipulations with it. The first step is to draw a straight line around the perimeter at the level you need. This is required in order to cut off the bottom of the bottle using a glass cutter;
  2. To avoid cutting yourself on the glass, you need to sand the sharp edges with sandpaper;
  3. Pull the wire through the neck of the bottle and then connect the socket;
  4. Attach the bottle to the frame.

You can also decorate the bottle with all kinds of decorative items, or leave it in its original form. In any case, it will look original and impressive.

The number of products on the frame depends on your desire. You can either leave one bottle or secure four or more bottles at once.

Laserdisc chandelier idea

This idea is great for those who have a large number of laser discs left in the house, but don’t dare throw them away. It’s worth noting right away that manufacturing options and the result can be very different. It all depends on your imagination and creativity!

Materials:

  • two round wooden planks of different thicknesses, and which are slightly larger in diameter than the disks;
  • racks made of metal or wood;
  • Fluorescent Lamp;
  • magnetic switch;
  • disks.

Process of creation:

  1. Make a hole in a thicker board and install a starter with a switch in it.
  2. Then connect it all to the lamp.
  3. String disks onto the lamp.
  4. Place the stands around the discs and secure the top.

The finished product will delight its owners for a long time, and it does not require special care. It is not advisable to place this type of chandelier in a child’s room so that the child cannot harm himself (only if the chandelier hangs out of reach).

Shabby chic chandelier

To create spectacular lighting in a room, you can also make a chandelier from fabric or beads. The result will be a kind of candelabra or lampshade in the “shabby chic” style.

Materials:

  • a ready-made metal or wooden frame (or it can be made from an old hoop, garden basket, thick wire);
  • socket and lamp;
  • chains and threads for decoration;
  • all kinds of beads and seed beads.

Working on such a lampshade is not difficult, but it is a very painstaking task. Such chandeliers usually consist of two or three levels of rings, which are located on top of each other. It all depends on the size of the chosen bases. If you take rings of the same diameter, the finished product will be made in the “modern” style.

One of important points is that before you start decorating the chandelier you need to paint and wrap the frames with decorative materials!

The approximate consumption of beads is:

  • For the lower part of the lampshade - 16 mm beads, about 15-17 pieces per thread;
  • For the upper part of the lampshade - 12 mm beads, about 35 pieces per thread.

Naturally, when stringing beads on a thread, you can increase or decrease their number or the degree of thread tension. But it is still advisable to stock up on materials in excess of the norm.

The essence of the work is to hang threads with beads in a “waterfall” or “cascade” so that they flow downward along the structure.

In order to create the effect of “muting” the light, you can sheathe the frame with thick fabric.

A DIY chandelier will definitely add a fresh touch, originality and beauty to your interior. You will immediately notice how the room will sparkle with new colors, and your guests will sincerely admire your creativity, hard work and original taste!

Lighting is the most important component of the interior. The coziness and level of comfort of our home depends on lighting. The play of light and shadow allows you to play up the winning moments of the interior and divert attention from the unsuccessful moments. And also - lamps, floor lamps, chandeliers and lamps create the atmosphere that we call “home”. They will help you make your home “your own”, personal and individual. unique lamps And The best way- make a lampshade with your own hands. Homemade lampshades and lampshades are the thing that will make your home stand out from others.

A few words about security

In the manufacture of lamps, floor lamps and chandeliers in industrial conditions calculation is made in advance minimum distance from the “body” of the lamp to the materials. This distance depends on the power and thermal radiation of the lamp and on the type (flammability) of the material from which the lampshade/shade is made. At home, it is unlikely that anyone will bother with such calculations. And in order not to create dangerous situation, you should adhere to certain rules.

In general, after making a lampshade and installing it, in the first few days pay attention to whether the lampshade is heating up. Heating is any increase in temperature above environment. If the lampshade feels “warm”, change the bulb to a less powerful one. Check again. Do this until the homemade lampshade gets warm.

Where to get the frame

If you want to remake an old lamp, floor lamp, sconce whose old lampshade has become unusable, you can simply use the existing base, stripping old material. Before starting work, take a good look at the frame; if there is rust or damaged coating somewhere, maybe you should strip everything off and paint it again? At the same time, the color can be changed. If there are no old frames, you can buy an inexpensive lamp (in a store or at a flea market) and do the same operations with it. By the way, good lampshades can be made from waste baskets. There are wire ones and there are plastic ones. The main thing is to find the right shape and size. Then make a hole in the bottom for the cartridge. Then it’s a matter of decoration/plating, but here there are a lot of options.

If this method is not available, you can make a lampshade without a frame (there are some) or make the frame yourself. The material for making a frame for a lampshade with your own hands is: wire, wood (wooden or bamboo sticks, specially cut elements), plastic bottles.

How to make a frame for a homemade lampshade from wire

The wire for the lamp frame needs aluminum or steel. Aluminum is easy to work with, but it wrinkles easily. This is not very important when the lampshade is already in use, but this fact must be taken into account during work: the shape can be ruined. On the other hand, such plasticity allows you to easily and simply make changes to the shape during work. So it's a good option. Aluminum wire can be “mined” from electrical cables. You will have to remove the protective shell and you can use it.

Steel wire is more elastic, so it retains its shape well. You can look for it on the construction market. It's more difficult to work with. It is advisable to have strong male hands nearby.

In addition to the wire, you will need powerful wire cutters and pliers for the job. The lampshade frame usually consists of two rings and posts connecting them. The shape of the future lampshade depends on the size of the rings and the shape of the stands. Questions may arise regarding the number of racks and methods of their fastening. The number of posts depends on the size of the rings and how “round” you want the lampshade to be. How more racks, the more “smooth” the fabric will lie. So it's up to you to choose, but optimal distance between the posts in the bottom circle - about 5-6 cm.

Techniques for creating a wire lampshade frame

How you attach the stack to the lampshade rings depends on the thickness and type of wire, as well as the tools you have. The easiest one is to make a small hook at the end, then clamp it tightly. To prevent the ring from sliding left and right, first sand the wire at the attachment point with coarse sandpaper. This is an option for thick aluminum wire. If the wire is steel, with a diameter of 1.2-2 mm or more, the best way is. Thinner wire can be bent and wrapped around a ring or also made into a hook.

If you make hooks and wrap wire, the appearance is far from being as ideal as that of factory frames. But this imperfection will be covered by the lampshade itself. If you still care about it, find the tape suitable color(usually matched to the color of the lampshade) and carefully wrap the resulting frame. It will get much better. The tape can be coated with PVA glue and, wet, tightly, turn by turn, wrapped around the frame.

Wire mesh

If you can find a mesh of thin wire, you can quickly make an almost perfect cylindrical lampshade for a floor lamp, table lamp, night light, lampshade for installing a candle, etc. All you need to do is cut a piece of mesh of the required length and width, roll it into a ring and secure the wires by wrapping them around the posts.

To prevent the mesh from straightening out, when cutting a piece, cut so that there are long free ends on both sides. We will use them to fasten the cylindrical lampshade. And the imperfection of the upper and lower rings can be masked with a ribbon of the desired color.

From a five liter plastic bottle

An interesting shaped lampshade can be made from a large plastic bottle. There are bottles for 5-6 liters and even 10. These are what you can use. Cut off the top or bottom of the container, depending on what you like best. In the cut off part we make a ring for the cartridge. If cut off top part, for some cartridges you can use a neck. For those with a larger diameter, it will have to be cut off.

Then we cut out the excess plastic and form the rims and pillars of the lampshade. To avoid mistakes, you can first draw all the lines with a marker. It will be easier to cut. Everything is elementary. Then we just decorate. And yes, it is necessary to cut out the plastic, otherwise warm air there will be nowhere to go.

Making lampshades on a frame

There are enough options for how to make a lampshade cover:

From tapes

The simplest and quick way transform an old lampshade for a floor lamp or table lamp - use ribbons. You need a frame or lampshade in the form of a cylinder. It can be “naked” or covered with fabric. If you use a “bare” frame, light will shine through the cracks, which will create interesting lighting effects, but the lighting will be uneven. It's uncomfortable to read in this light. interior solution. If you need even lighting, first cover the frame with fabric. It can be the same color as the ribbons, a couple of shades darker or lighter, or it can be contrasting. It all depends on your desire. And remember that the darker the fabric, the less light the lampshade transmits.

We take a ribbon 1-2.5 cm wide. We fix it on the wrong side of the lampshade using PVA glue, additionally securing it with a pin. If you took a wire frame without fabric, attach it to the upper or lower rim (you can sew it on by hand, you can use glue). Then we begin to wrap the entire frame, from top to bottom, placing the turns of tape close to each other, but without overlapping.

Having completed the circle, turn the tape 90°. We fix it in this position (with a needle and thread or PVA glue, glue from a gun, temporarily fixing it with a pin, pressing it with a clothespin). Then we pass the tape under the first tape, pull it out, lay it on top of the second, then pull it down again, pull it up through one tape. So, gradually, we create an interlacing, filling the entire lampshade.

Alternatively, you can pass two vertical ribbons at a time. But then you need to make sure that each next row moves one crossbar. Then you get a different type of weave. This type of lampshade is ideal for floor lamps, since the light will be directed downwards and the dispersion through the walls will be small.

In this version, the ribbons can be the same, they can be the same color but of different textures, they can differ by a couple of tones or be contrasting. The tapes can be passed in a circle in a continuous stream, or at some distance. If you find a wide tape and overlap it, then you won’t need horizontal ones at all. And if you use a braided or twisted cord (on bottom photo on the right), we get a completely different-looking lampshade. So this lampshade finishing technique alone gives you a lot of options.

Let's briefly present the ideas. There are many options for how you can design standard frames for lampshades in a non-standard way. The first method has already been announced: you can knit or crochet a cover for a lampshade. Several options in the photo.

Not everyone knows how to knit. It is easier to work with beads, especially if you glue them. You can decorate old fabric using beads, sequins, beads different shapes and sizes. You can make this “new-old” lampshade with your own hands in a couple of hours. Select decorations that match the color, coat the fabric with PVA glue, and stick on the decorations. To complete the look, you can assemble pendants from beads and beads that are attached to the lower rim, but this is already painstaking work. The effect is interesting though.

You can sew a new lampshade from fabric. But it doesn’t have to be an updated copy of the old one. You should use your imagination! If a lamp or floor lamp is in the girls' room, new case The lampshade can be made into a skirt. You choose the style of the skirt yourself. They look interesting when folded. With and without ruffles.

In a boy's room you can use an old one geographical map. They are on thick paper. If the paper is not thick enough, you first need to glue the card onto the cardboard, and then glue the lampshade from such a blank.

Original lampshades are obtained if the finished frame is woven with threads or ropes. Ropes can be natural. In this case they are gray, brown and beige. You can find thin synthetic colored cords. They will make products that are more “cheerful” in color. The situation is even simpler with knitting threads. They are thin, thick, textured, with smoothly changing colors. In general, there are a lot of options.

We take the frame and braid it according to a certain pattern. You can start with the racks. Braid each stand with a braid (the length of the threads should be 3 times the height of the stand). When this work is completed, we begin to stretch the threads/ropes between the posts. They will need to be passed through the braids, so with threads it is more convenient to do this with a needle, but ropes can be inserted this way.

The second option is to first entangle the entire frame horizontally, and then braid the racks. The braid won't work here, you just need to secure the turns to the stand using inclined stitches with a certain slope. This option is somewhat simpler in execution, but the “braids” look more decorative.

Homemade lampshades without frame

Many materials are rigid enough to hold their shape on their own, but at the same time they are flexible enough to make something interesting out of them. Such homemade lampshades Well, a lot. And almost all of them are worth your attention. We will present here only part, the other part will go in the section with photos (see below).

From knitted lace doilies

Many people have crocheted napkins and they lie in “stashes”, because it’s a pity to throw them away and they don’t know how to use them. There are very interesting idea- make a lampshade out of them for a suspended chandelier. In addition to napkins, you will need a large one balloon or an inflatable ball, glue for heavy wallpaper (vinyl, silk-screen printing, etc.), brush.

Soak the glue according to the instructions and wait until it swells. We inflate a balloon or take a ball and hang it up. When the glue is ready, lay out a napkin on some clean surface, coat it with glue, and place it on the ball.

It must be laid out in such a way that there will be a hole in the center for the cartridge. We glue the napkins one by one. They need to be laid out so that the edges overlap slightly. When all the napkins are laid out, coat them with glue again and leave until dry. When the glue has dried, deflate the ball or ball (the ball can be pierced, if you don’t mind) and take it out through the hole. That's all, the lace lampshade is ready.

In some cases there are problems with how ready-made lampshade hang on the cartridge. The problem can be solved simply - take a transparent plastic bottle, cut off its neck, and, if necessary, expand the hole to required sizes(so that it fits tightly onto the socket), then cut the plastic so that you get a ring 5-7 cm wide. Coat this ring with PVA glue, and glue it to the lampshade from the inside of the ball.

Round lampshades made of threads

Almost the same technology can be used to produce round and semicircular stylish lampshades. Choose threads of a suitable color. Their composition is absolutely unimportant - what matters is color, thickness and texture. They can be shaggy, smooth, twisted, thinner and thicker. The appearance depends on this. It is most convenient to work with cotton threads of medium thickness. They absorb glue well and then, after drying, keep their shape perfectly.

You will also need a ball or ball. This will be the base of the lampshade, which gives the shape. You can choose the dimensions of the base as desired. The threads will need to be glued together; for this you will need PVA glue. It is poured into a container and diluted with water in a 1:1 ratio.

You can use other glue. It is important that it becomes transparent after drying. This is WB-29 from TYTAN Professional and D2 glue for carpentry. If you use any of these types of glue, read the instructions.

On the ball or sphere we will draw a circle, which will be slightly smaller in size than the lamp socket. On the opposite side, draw a larger circle - this will be the lower edge of the lampshade. Now everything is ready, we can start.

We coat the threads with glue and wind them around the ball in a chaotic manner. It’s more convenient to do this if the glue is poured into a container - you can put the whole skein in there and just pull the thread slowly. With glue in a tube, everything is not so comfortable: you have to coat sections up to a meter long, wrap it around, and coat it again. It takes much longer. This is if you do not use PVA. But the products turn out to be more rigid and do not sag or change shape over time, as can happen with PVA thread lampshades.

When winding threads around the ball, carefully go around the drawn circles. If you accidentally climbed into the “forbidden territory”, simply move the threads, forming an even (more or less even) edge. When the threads run out or you decide that the density is enough, the process can be stopped. We tuck the edge of the thread between the others. All. Next, coat the ball with wound threads again with glue (PVA can be poured over) and leave to dry (at least 2 days). To prevent the ball from rolling, we find a bowl or pan and use it as a stand.

The last stage is to deflate the ball or ball. If the ball has a nipple, press it with a thin wire, releasing the air. We take out the deflated ball. That's all, you can thread the lamp inside and test the lampshade.

The technology is the same, but the appearance is very different...

Using the technology described above, you can make not only round lampshades. Rectangular, triangular, trapezoidal. Choose a base that is easy to remove, wind threads soaked in glue, braid, even sticks, newspaper tubes etc. After drying, remove the base and now you have made a lampshade with your own hands. A couple of examples in the photo below.

You can also use chopsticks... Just wrap the ball with cling film and use transparent carpentry glue rather than PVA glue

It's pasty polymer clay in a tube, which was applied to a milk carton, then dried and the bag was removed...

Creative homemade shades for lamps, floor lamps and chandeliers

For your information! Difficulties in the manufacture of this lighting device can only arise in the correct folding of the base of the lampshade. And in order to give the product a more attractive appearance, it is recommended to paint the paper lampshade with Chinese characters and apply stylized images.

You've probably already noticed that I love cardboard, and my favorite products are.

While making this lamp, I again combined these two things, making a few mistakes and learning something new!

The lamp itself is a dodecahedron, or dodecahedron in common parlance, which consists of pentagons joined together. The assembly itself is not as difficult as it may seem, but it will definitely require a lot of time and patience on your part. But I guarantee you, you will be satisfied with the result!

Step 1: What we need

Cardboard. I used thin cardboard as it is easier to cut. You will also need a knife, hot glue, PVA, and an LED lamp.

Step 2: Safety Precautions

Pay special attention to the fact that we use exactly LED lamp. Such lamps will not heat the cardboard, which means they are fireproof. This is especially true if there are cats, dogs or small children in the house who could drop the lamp.

Step 3: Draw the Pentagons

I started by drawing 11 pentagons of the same size. Just in case you forgot the geometry, a pentagon has all the same sides.

Each side of the pentagon is 6 cm, but of course it depends on the size of the lamp you need. The most important part is again that all the pentagons are the same.

The easiest way to draw them is by making one layout, which you can then simply trace.

Step 4: Cutting out the parts

Now you need to draw 5 more small pentagons in each of the 11 pentagons. The distance between them is approximately 6 mm.

When everything is drawn, all that remains is to cut out each pentagon with a stationery knife.

This is the longest stage, but not so difficult;)

Step 5: Assembling the Lampshade

I think from the photo you already understand in what order the pentagons are attached (or rather glued) to each other. The final shape looks a lot like a star, doesn't it? :)

You can glue it with PVA or hot glue, I used PVA, but big difference No.

Step 6: Assembling the Lampshade

Now that all the parts are ready, you can start assembling the lampshade.

First of all, I placed one pentagon in front of me, applied hot glue to two adjacent sides, and glued two other pentagons to them so that they were connected to each other on one side (see the first photo). This side where they are connected must also be glued.

Then it remains to glue the remaining sides. It is very convenient to use hot glue at this stage, because it sets immediately.

Well, that's all, the lampshade is ready!

Step 7: Making the base of the lamp

To make the base you need to cut pentagons again, the same sizes as for the lampshade. Their number depends on how large the socket of your light bulb is. The larger the cartridge, the higher the base should be, the more details will need to be cut out.

The width of each side of the pentagon should be slightly wider this time, that is, about 1 cm.

When all the pentagons are ready, simply glue them together.
