Second step. Take a small tool and measure the corner of the attic hatch. Transfer the angle to the boards, thus marking the location of the steps.

Third step. Drill holes where the hinges will be located between the individual stair sections.

Fourth step. Sand the edges of the structures.

Fifth step. Saw the boards at the hinge points.

Step 1. Mark on the strings the places where the steps will be installed. To do this, mark each part with a pencil, according to the selected angle of inclination of the stairs and the previously made calculations. Now press the ends of the boards tightly together and secure them with masking tape. This is necessary to drill through holes at the junctions of sections. Drill a hole for the hinge with a diameter of about 25 mm at the junction of the first and second sections. Next, you need to remove the tape and turn the boards over, fastening them again. Step 2. Cut the bowstrings along the marked lines. Next, grooves are made for the steps with inside bowstrings using a chisel. Step 3. We cut the steps according to the markings and attach them to the left bowstring. We put the steps on glue and secure them with self-tapping screws. We attach the right bowstring and also fasten it with self-tapping screws.

Step 4. Attach the loops for sliding mechanism stairs. Hinges, like hinge mechanisms, can be bought in a store, or made independently from metal tape. Materials and tools

To make an attic ladder yourself, you will need a whole list of what you need:

  • wood hacksaw;
  • with a set or set of screwdrivers;
  • with foam;
  • roulette;
  • different size anchors and screws;
  • bars 20-30 cm thick;
  • card loops.

In addition, you will need an ordinary ladder (already ready) with a length 30 cm greater than the height to the level of the opening.

Design

We take a pre-prepared wooden ladder the right size. At the bottom and top of it we fix a couple of bars along the width: the bottom one is rigid, and the top one is hinged. Having measured two-thirds of its entire length, we cut the ladder with a hacksaw. We get two parts of the structure: the lower one will be shorter, and the upper one will be longer.

We fix a pair of slats diagonally to ensure rigidity. Using loops we connect the existing parts. We fix the top bar under the hatch anchor bolts. Bottom part We fix it with a hook so that it does not open on its own. There is a loop on the stringer, above the cut point. The finished folding ladder is fixed to the wall surface.

We got a pretty comfortable one. Its main disadvantage can be considered its unfinished appearance - all the bars and fasteners are visible. But our device will perform its functions properly, and will completely solve the problem of going up to the attic and coming down from there.

Installing the folding device

  4. the sections will be connected by hinges: we make holes in their place;
  5. We polish all edges well;
  6. in the places marked for hinges, we cut the boards;
  7. we cut the steps and sand them;
  8. in the bowstrings we cut out notches to fit the steps;
  9. we insert steps into them, fastening them with glue and reinforcing them with self-tapping screws;
  10. We place the sections on a flat surface and connect them together with special loops;
  11. we check the operation of each section separately;
  12. we install the assembled structure into the opening;
  13. if required, we make final adjustments to individual parts;
  14. we disassemble the resulting structure into individual elements;
  15. We process every detail - grind and;
  16. wait for it to dry completely, reassemble it, and start using it.

It is preferable to do all work that is performed at a significant height with a partner. This will speed up the work process and will also help avoid various traumatic situations.

Be that as it may, the price of an attic ladder made independently is significantly lower than the cost of a purchased factory design.

If you slip, fall, or a fairly overweight relative decides to lift a heavy box into the attic, expect trouble.

And such stairs are often quite steep, and it is inconvenient to go down them with something in your hands - you need to stick to one. And go down only backwards. Therefore, it is quite natural that many home craftsmen who built their own house or bathhouse do not see any point in buying fragile and expensive folding stairs to the attic. Why, if you can make them yourself, and of excellent quality and much greater reliability?

What fasteners and materials are needed?

As for the main material, a wooden staircase will be the most affordable, but here it is important to pay special attention to the strength of the fasteners. To make such a ladder, you will need two long and two short bars, as well as a piece of plywood 10 millimeters thick.

Instructions for making a folding ladder

So, let's figure out step by step how to make a folding ladder for your attic. You will need the following tools: a hacksaw, a ladder, hinges, two beams, bolts, self-tapping screws, a screwdriver and a metal hook.

The process itself can be divided into several steps:

  • Step 1. Secure the upper beam to the opening using hinges, and the lower beam using self-tapping screws. The fastener itself should be with reverse side stairs.
  • Step 2. Now we connect everything using the most ordinary bolts, with a diameter of 6 or 8 millimeters. Smaller diameter may not withstand the load, a larger one is simply not needed. Remember that self-tapping screws cannot be used here at all - they will not withstand the load and on a certain day they will simply tear out the entire fastening of the system.
  • Step 3. Now we divide the stairs into three parts, measure 2/3 and make a cut, just between the steps.
  • Step 4. We connect the sawn parts again, but with loops.
  • Step 5. Nail longer bars on the back side so that they turn out diagonally for strength.
  • Step 6. Now the ladder itself is delivered under the hatch and pressed against the wall with the top bar. Secure this block with bolts.
