Curtain design. Curtain design: choice of color, style, types, decor, decoration, ideas for non-standard windows

A window is not only a source of light in a room, but also a part of your interior. It is important that the window is “dressed” in a pleasant fabric, which will become one of the most important parts of your room. Undoubtedly, when choosing curtains you need to take into account the interior as a whole. Stick to the color scheme of the premises and general style interior Do not forget that the window should not be bulky, and the curtains should not interfere with the functioning of the window. The photo of the curtain design shows one of best solutions this year.

Hearth symbol

The kitchen is the very room in which you have to spend a sufficient amount of time every day, so the kitchen is a kind of “symbol of the hearth.” Properly selected curtains are extremely important for this room. Fluffy curtains in small kitchens will look too bulky; they clearly belong somewhere in the living room, but at the same time, clumsily weighing blinds will feel cold and boring. In this situation, it is most appropriate to use curtains light colors from plain materials. It is important that there is always light in the kitchen.

It is also worth considering the functional load on the curtains. They should wash well, let in light, and not fade when exposed to sunlight and the main thing is to be resistant to different temperatures, because sometimes the kitchen turns into a real “steam room”. Many designers suggest using the following options:

II. Roller blinds.

III. Roman curtains.

IV. Blinds.

Blinds

Very often housewives give their preference to blinds, regardless of their attractiveness. In order to get rid of the feeling of being in the office, you need to select blinds from various materials, and decorated different colors. Blinds with photo printing look very interesting. The design of curtains, the new photos of which are presented on the website, are perfect for decorating any room.

Roman curtains

The design made of thin slats and fabric is especially popular, and although it is not known for certain who invented it, it is customary to call such blinds Roman.

The folded fabric is very functional and suitable for any kitchen. Despite the simplicity of the form, the variety of materials and textures will allow you to choose curtains for a room of any size and shape:

I. Natural cotton.

II. Jute material.

IV. Bamboo.

Roller blinds

Designers do not ignore this type of curtains either. Despite their simplicity, they do their job well. And their ease of care makes them worthy candidates for your kitchen. As a rule, such curtains are made in a single color style or decorated with patterns and photo prints. If you are looking for curtains for a kitchen with a balcony, then they will become great solution. A variety of models will add a special accent to your premises.

Regardless of which style prevails, curtains will find their place in any home. An excellent solution would be panel curtains; they will not only expand the space due to their lightness, but also give an intricate visual effect.

The choice of window “clothes” for the living room is very large. The simplest task becomes a huge problem. A variety of models of curtains and tulles can give the room coziness and hospitality.

It is worth highlighting the main types that are often used in the interior:

I. Classic.

II. English.

III. Austrian.

IV. French.

VI. Rolled.

VII. Japanese.

They are often used for any premises with limited space.

This is truly a life-saving option for an already cramped room. Due to their tight fit to the window, they will not take up much-needed space and will fit perfectly into the modern and minimalist style.

The leader among minimalism is Japanese design curtains 2020. Thanks to the system fixed to the cornice, the canvas moves freely, like doors in a sliding wardrobe.

Due to the lack of folds, they can become a whole art object. A large pattern or design will attract the attention of your guests for a long time.

The best curtain designs that will never go out of style. These are long, wide canvases, with many decorative folds and going down to the floor.

English curtains

Curtains of this type can also act as an alternative to regular tulle. Their distinctive feature are rounded folds of a translucent type in the lower part of the composition.

They don’t look bad as an independent decorative element. They may somewhat resemble the English version of curtains, in general because of their lower part with rounded folds. When assembled, they look much more impressive. They are perfect for the art deco style and, of course, everyone’s favorite classic style.

In fact, they are very easy to confuse with Austrian curtains, but there are a lot of differences. The French, who have a penchant for luxury, are accustomed to sewing curtains from expensive fabrics. They look great both folded and unfolded. This is for real sophisticated style, which will fill the living room with noble classics and give it aristocracy.

Bedroom

Curtains for the bedroom should be light and not bright. Bright colors do not promote peace. They distract and don't contribute good sleep. It is more appropriate to use catchy bedroom colors. However, translucent curtains will also not work. They should protect from sun rays and other troubles that interfere with restful sleep. Thick curtains in classic strength are perfect.

The choice of curtains is also determined by style, but you should not focus only on what is fashionable, because the most important thing here is functionality.

Fashionable curtains

In 2020, the neutral range is still not losing its position, despite the fact that it is far from being a new product or some kind of breakthrough in design. This is perhaps a classic that will never go out of fashion, just like the classic combination of black and white. New curtain designs in neutral colors are presented in a huge variety and are suitable for any room.

Large drawings on fabric also do not lose their positions; blurry images look especially interesting, as if made with watercolor paint. However, minimalism is not an absolute favorite, as it was before. Nowadays, preference is given to voluminous curtains with weighty folds and a beautifully decorated top.

Or use a change of decor window openings to freshen up the atmosphere. That is why, when choosing a window design, it is necessary to take into account a lot of criteria. First of all, you need to decide whether your curtains, curtains or tulle will perform exclusively decorative function or protection from sunlight will be necessary. You will need to take into account the location of the room in relation to parts of the world, the level above the ground (ground floor apartment building needs much more seriously window decoration than windows country house, for example) and the purpose of the room, its functionality.

Then, you need to decide whether you want the window decoration to become the focal point of your room or to act as a focal point in the overall color scheme interior Along the way, you can decide on the method of mounting the cornices. If the renovation has already been completed or you are changing textiles in the finished interior, then all that remains is to choose the color and material of the cornice or string system for attaching curtains and drapes.

  • if the walls are decorated with wallpaper with a bright or variegated print, then it is better to give preference to plain curtains and curtains in calm tones;
  • matte wallpaper looks better with silk or synthetic curtain material and, conversely, wallpaper with embossing looks harmonious with matte window drapery fabrics;
  • vertical stripes on the curtains will visually increase the height of the room;
  • horizontal stripes as a print on curtains or curtains expand the space;
  • a curtain rod located under the ceiling visually elongates the room in height;
  • It is better not to use curtains with lambrequins in rooms with low ceilings.

Let's look at specific examples of how you can design window openings in modern interiors, what color and texture combinations to prefer, what model of curtains to choose.

Curtains with lambrequins

Labrequin is part of the design of a window opening, which is located in the upper horizontal part and hides part of the curtains. Lambrequin can be either hard or soft. It can be a strict geometric figure or gently fall in waves. Previously, lambrequins in our country were used mainly in cases where it was necessary to hide some defects in repairs and installations. window frame or other defects in the reconstruction. Currently, the lambrequin increasingly acts solely as a decorative element.

The plain fabric of the curtains with a figured lambrequin repeats the colors used in the textiles of the pillows and furniture upholstery, which allows you to link the entire decor of the room into a harmonious, balanced space.

Curtains with a lambrequin decorated with a pattern, braid or embroidery look original, while the fabric itself remains plain. For rooms with high ceilings This type of window design may be ideal.

A bright pattern of curtains with a labrequin will look luxurious against the background of a plain light wall decoration, repeating some of the tones of furniture upholstery or carpeting.

The lambrequin is not always made from the same fabric as the curtains. The option of decorating windows with printed lambrequins and plain light curtains looks original. This decoration option can be suitable for both the bedroom and the living room.

And this is a version of a soft lambrequin with falling folds, which can be made from curtain fabric or differ in color and texture from the main textile. Such window decoration will look harmonious in classic interior premises, possibly using Baroque or Rococo elements.

This is a solid rectangular canvas corresponding to the size of the window opening, which is assembled into horizontal folds using a lace or chain. Thanks to its rigor and geometricity, captivating simplicity and functionality, this type of window design will look appropriate in almost any interior. Roman blinds are an excellent option for draping windows in bedrooms, living rooms, dining rooms and even in the kitchen space.

Roman blinds can be made of translucent or dense fabrics, with or without a pattern. In addition to the main function - protection from the sun, Roman blinds act as a decorative element of the interior, capable of creating an accent in space.

Roman blinds are often used as a translucent window screen, complete with thick curtains or curtains. A similar model of window decoration is used in rooms where thick curtains rarely cover the entire window, leaving the opportunity to see the first row of window decoration.

Here is an example of window design using Roman blinds with a lambrequin. With such an intense wallpaper print, the curtains should have appeared with a more neutral pattern or without it at all.

The name speaks for itself - in the manufacture of such curtains, natural raw materials are used - specially processed bamboo, usually in the form of thin sticks, which are sewn together by hand. Obviously, such a fabric will be very resistant to moisture, sunlight and other climatic conditions.

Bamboo curtains are used both independently and in combination with other types of textile window decoration. They are often used to decorate window openings in kitchens and dining rooms, on verandas and attic spaces, where there is an abundance of sunlight.

These are curtains that are made of corrugated fabric. This type of window design is based on the design of blinds. The fabric of pleated curtains can have different densities, textures, and come in either a plain color or with a printed pattern. For modern interiors, as a rule, this type of curtain is made of thick or translucent fabric without ornament.

Pleated curtains are very convenient for draping complex window openings, non-standard designs and shapes. It is thanks to the organic combination of warmth and comfort of fabric products and the functionality and practicality of blinds that this type of window decoration is very popular for decorating both home and office premises.

The main feature of this type of window drapery is the roundness of the shape of the lower edge of the canvas. Sometimes such curtains are called scalloped because of their characteristic ruffles. If the window is not very wide, then a couple of festoons will be enough; for large window openings, for example in a living room or a spacious bedroom, you can use several assemblies. Festoons can be decorated with fringe or tassels, but modern interiors that strive for minimalism leave decor far behind, preferring options without excessive decoration.

Austrian curtains will look great in country-style bedroom or living room interiors.

Austrian curtains made of thick taffeta in noble shades can become a decoration for a truly royal interior of a bedroom or living room. If the head of the bed is in a niche decorated similarly to the window openings, the interior can be safely called luxurious, delightful, and royal.

Eyelets are one of the most practical and reliable ways of attaching curtains to a baguette - these are steel or plastic rings integrated into top part curtains, a cornice is threaded through them. Such window decor can be made from almost any type of fabric, with or without coloring.

Thanks to the eyelets, curtains or curtains can move freely horizontally without losing their shape. Eyelets allow you to create perfect vertical folds that visually increase the height of your room.

The simplest, most practical, common and universal way to decorate windows, which is suitable for any room of any style, is sliding curtains. Two strips of fabric, suspended from the cornice with clothespins, rings or grommets, can be used for window decoration either independently or in combination with curtains. Made from any fabric, plain or patterned. They can be assembled using clips or interceptions, decorated with fringe and tassels.

Bright print on curtains

A colorful, bright pattern of curtains can radically change the appearance of a room. If your room is decorated in light neutral tones using plain wallpaper or an unobtrusive pattern, then bright printed curtains can become an accent and focal point.

A large floral pattern on the curtains became the decoration of the living room-office. The color of the window decoration echoes the textiles of the pillows and decorative elements, and the steel shine of the cornices repeats the material of the base of the table lamp, creating a harmonious interior.

If it were not for the bright pattern on the curtains, the interior of this office with a small home library would be very modest in the manifestation of color.

For an eclectic living room with snow-white walls, a bright print of curtains looks accentuated, giving the room a feeling of spring freshness and full of color.

A bright pattern can be applied not only to curtains, but also to translucent curtains. Bedroom in Scandinavian style with a restrained interior, needed an element of brightness and surprise.

Often curtain rods, in addition to their main function of supporting curtains. They also serve a decorative purpose, acting as an accent, connecting or original element of the interior.

Curtains with horizontal stripes not only add variety to color palette rooms act as an accent or a link between contrasting color spots of the decor, but also visually expand the space when the window is curtained.

The original way to attach curtains to curtain rods is to throw the fabric through the tube of the device; in this case, you do not need rings or clothespins. To remove the curtains for washing, just detach the curtain rod knobs and pull the fabric together. The whole composition looks original and fresh.

Hiding the curtain rod

A cornice or strings that are attached to the ceiling or into a niche between layers of drywall allow you to create curtains that will make the room appear higher.

Clamps, interceptions and more

In some interiors, curtains are intercepted with the help of special devices solely for decorative purposes, in others, I pursue the functional load of the decor of window openings. But the important thing is that in both cases, the windows look well designed and attractive.

Jacquard curtains always look luxurious, expensive and representative. Jacquard is a high-tech material, in the production of which detailed elaboration of the ornament is used. The result is an imitation of embroidery and appliqué. The density of the fabric depends on the production method; the pattern can also be varied. Classic curtains, Baroque or Empire style are perfect for making this type of fabric. If you want to create a warm and cozy atmosphere in the room, then the elegance and aristocracy of jacquard curtains will help you with this.

Transparent tulle for window decoration

Often in modern design projects You can find rooms whose windows are decorated only with translucent tulle. Most often, such rooms are bedrooms, for adults or children.

This children's bedroom has not only a window, but also part of the walls and a sloping ceiling. attic room decorated with translucent white tulle.

In principle, window decoration is not typical for the loft style, but there are exceptions. For huge windows, which used to be in industrial premises To soften the brutality of industrial decoration and bedroom furnishings, you can safely use snow-white tulle with many vertical folds.

Combinations of different curtain models in one room

There are often rooms in which there are several windows of various sizes and configurations, especially in corner rooms. In such spaces it is logical to allow the use various types design of window openings. Typically curtains different types They are made from the same fabric to maintain the harmony of the decor and the entire interior as a whole.

A combination of Roman blinds for narrow windows and sliding ones for window openings large sizes is the most popular and often found in modern interiors of bedrooms and living rooms.

Another combination option sliding curtains on one side and a lambrequin with frills on the other. In this case, we see the use of combinatorics not only in curtain models, but also in the fabrics from which they are made. In combination with furniture upholstery, the entire country-style dining room space looks harmonious and attractive.

In this luxurious dining room, the windows are decorated, it seems, by everyone possible ways– lambrequins, pleated curtains, French folds, fringe. And at the same time. window and door openings do not look loaded, thanks to the lightness of the fabric and the neutrality of the color palette.

How to choose the best

A professional will help you choose modern design curtains for a private home or apartment. But every housewife is able to make her own choice. There are a few key points to consider.

Room area. Massive, heavy curtains are appropriate for large room. Lavish decoration, antique stylization, elaborate decoration - this is acceptable. Small rooms are well decorated with elegant curtains.

Window shape. For standard rectangular windows there are practically no limits to your imagination. If there is an arched or asymmetrical opening, the owners and decorator need to carefully consider how to hang the curtains beautifully.

But the windows have curtains made of linen and silk - a luxury not available to everyone. There are practical difficulties - linen is difficult to iron, cotton quickly loses its rich color. Adding synthetics solves these problems and increases wear resistance.

Color spectrum. A well-chosen palette and geometry of the pattern help to adjust the visual perception of space. Psychologists also note the dependence of mental states and mood on the dominant color. Increase productivity, concentrate, relax, rest - different shades have their own characteristics.

General design. It is important to give a holistic, complete look to the room. Even the most beautiful curtains bring disharmony if poorly combined with the overall interior

Fashion trends

Designers are constantly offering beautiful new curtains. It is recommended to change them after 5-7 years. With a limited budget, it is easy to update old ones if they have not lost their consumer properties. You can decorate the edge with trim from a different fabric or use alternative decorating methods.

Photo curtains are gaining popularity. A 2D or 3D drawing is applied to the canvas. Fabric – satin, gabardine, blackout. Such curtains look stylish in the living room. You can surprise your guests if you choose a non-standard design, for example, photographs from your home collection. The paint used should be harmless, especially if there are small children living in the house.

Currently, following naturalness is encouraged. Simple style, uncluttered finishes, natural colors. Fashion trendsetters recommend restrained tones: brown, gray, blue, walnut, green. In a monochromatic design it looks laconic and elegant. A popular new product is bamboo curtains for the hall (and not only).

Drawings with flowers are always relevant, geometric shapes, imitation snake skin, and wide stripes are often found. You should pay attention to the “colorblock” style. Playing with contrast will fit perfectly into any interior.

Many rooms - an abundance of solutions

Each room imposes its own requirements for style and functionality. Beautifully hung curtains should be practical for everyday use. During the day, protect from excess sunlight and do not darken the room excessively. Provide comfortable twilight during night sleep. Do not provoke pets into ugly behavior (cats like to play with hanging tassels, climb up, etc.)

All types of window curtains are in demand, but with reservations about where something is appropriate. Curtains and tulle are timeless classics. If in past centuries they were available as a luxury item for wealthy households, now they are found everywhere.

Classic style requires snow-white tulle and curtains of rich colors. When departing from the classics, the most daring decisions are possible. High-tech presents the change from white to black and vice versa. Country style is combined with tulle lace trim.

Ultra-modern curtains in the hall - this is the layout of the curtains rich color with a little more tulle light tone. In this case, the window attracts attention and emphasizes the background of the room. It is appropriate to use embroidery, decorations, and lambrequins.

Non-standard design is a combination of different styles within one room. Weightless muslin is combined in the bedroom with roller blinds, blinds. Experiments with color are encouraged - within reason.

Curtains for the kitchen are often chosen to be short, but it is not necessary to strictly adhere to the traditional length. It is not justified to use elaborate curtains with a variety of accessories. The work area is an area of increased risk of contamination.

Not every option will be practical or appropriate here. You need to use fabrics that are easy to care for. Curtains should not darken the room - natural light is necessary.

You can decorate the curtains different ways. They sew on flounces, frills, ruffles, fringes, decorative tassels, etc. Even minor ones additional elements can successfully change the look of a living room. Bulky parts of the central heating system good to camouflage behind cute curtains.

Photos of beautiful curtains

Curtains play an important role in the interior. They not only add character to the room, but also protect it from sun and drafts, and also protect the privacy of the owners. Selecting curtains is quite simple if you understand this issue a little.

What it is?

Draperies are curtains made of dense material, performing not only decorative, but also protective function. Curtain curtains are often installed with their lightweight “brothers” - curtains. This tandem is typical for most settings in halls, living rooms, and bedrooms.

Curtains can be made from various materials with a pattern or plain dyed. Materials can be used, both artificial and natural, depending on the functional purpose and stylistic features of the room. Translated from French, curtains mean “door,” so for a window they serve as a kind of “door” from various climatic influences and other people’s curiosity.

There can be two or one curtains. Seeing two curtains moving in different directions is more common than seeing one fixed one. As decor for curtains, tiebacks are selected and various lambrequins are used.

In modern interiors you can often see curtains complementing roller or Roman shades or blinds. This technique combines practicality and style: curtains add coziness to the room, and curtains protect from the sun. This approach is relevant in cases where the fabric chosen for the curtains is medium density, and the room must be completely hidden from the sun.

Heavy curtains are often lined. It can be either similar to the main canvas or act as a contrasting addition.

In both cases, the fabric can be draped beautifully, but with a contrasting lining the effect will be more interesting.

How are they different from curtains and curtains?

Curtains are a general name for blinds, drapes, curtains, roller structures, and so on. Curtains are also curtains, but they have a special specific set of features.

The difference between curtains and drapes is amazing. The material of manufacture, the functions that these and other curtains perform, and the method of attachment to the cornice differ:

  • Curtains are made from light translucent materials such as organza, voile, tulle, and mesh. Curtains are made mainly from heavy fabrics: velvet, brocade, jacquard, satin, silk.
  • Curtains transmit light well, protecting only the privacy of the home owners. Curtains protect from the sun.
  • Curtains act as decoration without carrying any semantic load. Curtains perform a decorative function and also isolate the room from extraneous noise and drafts.
  • When attaching tulle, its upper edge rarely acts as an important accent, so choose simple ways fastenings There are many types of fastenings for curtains: loops and ties, eyelets, rings, magnets, and so on.

Thus, where curtains can be used, drapes are inappropriate, and vice versa.

In some rooms, the use of heavy luxurious curtains is generally prohibited, for example, in the bathroom. Also, some styles impose their own restrictions on one type of curtain or another. Consequently, sometimes curtains and drapes also differ in the style of application.

Fabrics

As mentioned above, curtains are made of heavy fabric. A thick curtain should protect the room well. Often such a canvas is hung in grommets on a tubular curtain rod, since this type of fastening is able to withstand quite a large weight of a thick curtain.

Common curtain fabrics include the following:

  • Jacquard. A complex weave material with a convex pattern, which may or may not be the same color as the base. Acts as an alternative to brocade, looks elegant and rich. Jacquard curtains should not be hung in small rooms; they only look appropriate in large rooms.
  • Linen. Thick linen curtains are usually sewn with a lining to avoid fading of the fabric. Linen allows air to pass through well, does not become electrified, and does not accumulate dust. It has been very popular in recent years.
  • Velvet. Fabric with soft pile. When buying curtains, you should pay attention to the direction of the pile; it should lie in one direction. Velvet fabric is quite capricious and requires careful ironing. It is also necessary to choose only high-quality expensive samples, since cheap ones will peel off over time.

  • Silk. Natural silk curtains are quite expensive. It is very “capricious” to handle and is by no means easy to care for. However, silk is distinguished by its fire-resistant characteristics: it melts and does not ignite like other materials. This is worth considering when choosing silk curtains for a public place.
  • Satin. Cotton fabric with a shiny surface is often used as an alternative to satin fabrics. Satin is more durable and less “capricious” than satin, but it wrinkles quite easily. You should choose satin interspersed with polyester or other fiber so that the fabric wrinkles less.

  • Taffeta. Reflects light very well. In the interior it looks pompous and rustles, so it is not suitable for decorating bedrooms. Draps easily.
  • Atlas. A thick, shiny fabric that is made from both silk and cotton. It is easy to put a puff on the satin or damage its shiny side, so wash the satin very carefully and iron it from the wrong side.
  • Velours. The fabric has a velvety surface, but it is much cheaper than velvet.

Accessories

An abundance of various elements is used to decorate curtains. The first and main detail is the method of attachment to the cornice:

  • Loops. Usually made from the same fabric as the curtain. They can be either narrow or wide (up to 20 cm). There are blind loops and those with unfastening, which are usually supplemented with Velcro.
  • Ties. Mainly used in rustic interiors, they can withstand not very heavy curtains.
  • Eyelets. At the moment this is the most expensive type of fastening. It looks stylish and is suitable for any interior, with the possible exception of Baroque and Rococo.
  • Rings. They resemble eyelets, but the rings are not threaded into the fabric itself, but are sewn on top. Basically, ring curtains are attached to a tubular cornice, but other options are also possible.
  • Hooks. Suitable for curtains that are attached to tape. It is a braid with which you can gather the top of the curtain properly, and then attach the finished edge to the cornice.
  • Clamps. Every possible choice of clips does not detract from the fact that they hopelessly spoil the curtain fabric, leaving puffs and sometimes even tears on it. However, the designers came up with new way fastenings - magnets. They look more aesthetically pleasing and can be decorated with anything, even rhinestones, but they will not withstand a very heavy curtain.

An important element there are also pickups. They can be made from the same curtain fabric and complemented with embroidery, fringe, braid, appliqués, and so on. IN Lately It’s not uncommon to find magnetic mounts that replicate the design of fasteners of the same name.

You can decorate the top edge of the curtains with hard and soft lambrequins, giving it a luxurious look and at the same time hiding the cornice and fastenings.

How to choose?

To choose the right curtains, you need to focus on several things:

  • Type of cornice mounting: ceiling or wall. Its ability to withstand a certain weight depends on this. Ceiling cornices often cannot cope with curtains that are too heavy.
  • Room style. The choice of one material or another often depends on the overall style of the room.
  • Functional purpose of the room. Perfect for the living room, kitchen and hallway different types curtain

According to the purpose of the room

Depending on what kind of room you are decorating with curtains, various options will vary:

  • For curtains in the living room It is not forbidden to choose expensive heavy fabrics that indicate the wealth of the home owners. The hall is a mirror of the apartment, so it should be luxurious, because this is the first room that guests will see. Family feasts and holidays are held here, so it is appropriate to complement the curtains with lambrequins and tiebacks.
  • Blackout curtains for the bedroom should be chosen from natural materials that protect well from light. It is advisable to sew curtains with lining for greater light and sound insulation. You should choose neutral colors that do not interfere with restful sleep and relaxation and do not excite the nervous system.

  • In the nursery you can do without curtains at all, leaving only light curtains. If this option does not suit you, you should choose natural materials with an interesting pattern. Cars and flowers, cartoon characters and various animals will delight your baby. Also try to stick to pastel colors.
  • In the attic Only classic rectangular windows that are not located at an angle should be framed with curtains. This way you will avoid problems with dust accumulation on the curtains, and also will not make the already low ceilings lower.

  • To the kitchen You should choose thick curtains up to the window sill, made of synthetic fabrics that do not absorb odors. This is especially true if your kitchen is not equipped with a powerful hood.
  • For the hallway and bathroom Thick heavy curtains are usually not chosen; they look inappropriate in these rooms.

You will learn more about the use of curtains in the interior from the following video.

By color

Plain curtains are a timeless classic. If the curtains are made from “complex” fabric with an interesting texture, you should not choose models with a pattern. The most current shades include the following:

  • Grey-blue;
  • Beige;
  • Sea wave;
  • Steel gray;
  • Red-orange;
  • Eggplant;
  • Gold;
  • Rich brown;
  • Emerald green;
  • Pistachio.

As you can see, green tones are at the peak of popularity, so feel free to include olive-colored blackout curtains in your interior.

White curtains look boring. Use natural patterns. For example, white curtains with flowers look much more lively and dynamic. Both beige and burgundy curtains are shown to decorate the bedroom. It all depends on the style of a particular room. Burgundy curtains are perfect for those who have trouble sleeping at night; beige color is universal.

Two-color curtains are also often used. For example, the color of the lining may differ from the main one, creating interesting game contrasts. Here is a list of fashionable combinations:

  • Beige and chocolate;
  • Gray and blue;
  • White and red;
  • Light gray and ash pink;
  • Sand and pistachio;
  • Canary yellow and dark brown;
  • Milky and purple;
  • Dark gray and crimson;
  • Beige and gold;
  • Gold and emerald.

You can also use various fabrics with patterns. Floral patterns, including abstract ones, are trending.

If you choose a large ornament, you will not go wrong.

By style

A lot depends on the style, including which curtains to choose, what design to choose for them, what color and pattern to prefer.

Below is a list of the most fashion styles and preferred tights for each of them:

  • Art Deco– voluminous curtains made of luxurious materials in the colors of precious metals.
  • Baroque– voluminous light curtains made of expensive, high-quality fabrics, decorated with verbose lambrequins and an abundance of decorative elements.
  • boho– colored simple curtains, sewn in patchwork style from bright multi-colored natural fabrics.

  • Vintage– curtains made of medium-density materials with a large floral pattern on a light background.
  • Country– short or long curtains with simple lambrequin made from a single fabric. Floral motifs or large checks are chosen as a pattern; bright colors are preferred.
  • Classic style– strict curtains made of expensive fabrics with lambrequins. The colors are noble and pure, with a minimum of decoration. Spruce ornaments.

  • Colonial– curtains made of plain light-colored fabrics of medium density are complemented by a wide rigid lambrequin.
  • Moroccan– voluminous bright curtains made of high-quality fabric, veils and a lambrequin are usually added.
  • Minimalism– simple soft curtains to the floor in restrained tones, decorations are not allowed.

  • Modern– curtains with interesting fastenings, fabric often with a contrasting pattern. The ornament chosen is large and abstract.
  • Provence– medium-density fabrics are selected, preferably natural and soft. The curtains are sewn on a drawstring. Large ones are best floral patterns on a white background.
  • Rococo– bright curtains with lambrequins, complemented by bright trim. Colors are usually chosen to match the color of precious metals.

  • Rustic- simple curtains with a drawstring made of coarse undyed fabric.
  • Scandinavian- simple straight curtains made of soft but dense fabrics in discreet colors. A distinctive feature is the almost complete absence of draperies on the fabric, the fabric is almost without folds when closed.
  • Mediterranean style – curtains made of natural materials with a marine pattern. Usually they are not decorated in any way.

  • High tech– the same curtains are selected as for the Minimalist style: straight, without decorations, complemented only by a veil of a similar shade.
  • Shabby chic– bright “girly” colors are welcome. It is also necessary to have “rustic” methods of decoration: frills, many tiebacks, embroidery or appliqués.
  • Eco style– curtains made from natural fabrics are preferred natural shade. Photo printing allowed

To wallpaper

When choosing curtains for wallpaper, you should not match them “color to color”; it is better to choose curtains either a tone darker or a tone lighter than the main shade. This way you will ensure that the curtains do not blend into their surroundings.

When choosing curtains with a pattern, make sure that it partially matches the pattern on the wallpaper, but does not completely duplicate it. Monochrome rooms have long gone out of fashion.

If the wallpaper is plain and the curtains are colored, try to choose the material so that the color of the pattern matches the color of the wallpaper.

If the wallpaper is patterned and the curtains are plain, you have two options. You can choose curtains to match the color of the pattern or a little darker or lighter than the main color of the wallpaper.

If both wallpaper and curtains have a pattern, choose abstract monochromatic motifs. Let the small pattern appear on the wallpaper, and the same large one on the curtains. It looks beautiful when the colors seem to change places. Let's say the wallpaper itself is white, and the pattern on it is green, then the curtains should be green with a white pattern.
