Making lambrequins with your own hands. How to sew a simple lambrequin for a nursery - master class How to learn to sew curtains and lambrequins

- this is a soft, decorative “cornice” in the form of trims, frills, which are placed in front of the curtain or tulle, hiding its upper part and softly framing the curtain or curtain. This is the way decorative design the top of the window. There are lambrequins straight or a certain form, a braid or fringe is sewn to the bottom. Lambrequin is an important part of window decor. It successfully hides the sagging edge of a curtain or curtain or an ugly cornice. By fixing the lambrequin higher than usual, you will visually lengthen the window; with a wide lambrequin, the window will appear wider.

— The lambrequin can consist of one, two or three sections.
— The width of the section depends on the length of the cornice. Each section of the lambrequin has a smooth section in the middle (1/3 of the width of the part) and on both sides of it there are gathered sections (1/3 of the width of the part).

Calculation of the width of the lambrequin.

— If the lambrequin consists of only one section, then its width will be equal to the length of the cornice.
— For a lambrequin of two sections, one of which overlaps the other by 1/3, the width of the section is calculated in the following way: each section consists of 3/3 = 6/3 in total; from them subtract 1/3 by which one section overlaps another = 5/3.
Measure the length of the cornice, divide it by 5 = 1/3 of the width of the section. This value must be multiplied again by 3 = the width of one section of the lambrequin.
— For a three-section lambrequin, where each section overlaps by 1/3: 9/3 minus 2/3 (overlapping) = 7/3. Length of cornice divided by 7 and multiplied by 3 = width of one section.

Drawing up a pattern for a lambrequin section.

— To make a pattern for a lambrequin section, pin a large sheet of paper to the wall, draw a horizontal line with a length equal to the calculated width of the section (lines 1-2 in the drawing), and using a hanging cord attached at points 1 and 2, draw the shape of the lambrequin section (dashed line on the drawing).
— Transfer this form onto a piece of paper. From the midpoint of the section width (3), draw a vertical line down and mark on it:
section height (4) = point of intersection of the dotted line and the vertical
paper pattern height (4a) = section height plus the desired allowances (depending on the density of the fabric, they are 50 - 80% of the section width, more for thin fabrics and less for dense ones).
— Draw the bottom edge of the paper pattern piece using a compass: center at point 3, draw an arc through point 4a, see drawing.
— Transfer 1/2 of the length of the lower edge of the lambrequin section (1-4) to the circle line from point 4a to get point 1a. Point 2a is determined in the same way.
— Divide the width of the section into three parts - see points 5 and 6 = smooth section. Now connect points 1a and 5, 2a and 6 with straight lines - we will then tighten the fabric in these areas.
— To avoid too tight drapery on both sides, along the bottom edge of the pattern on the right and left, in areas equal to 1/3 of the length of the bottom edge, straighten it a little, see drawing.
Connect points 5 and 6 with a slightly rounded line. Cut out the resulting part.

Open it up.

— The fabric is cut at an angle of 45 degrees.
— We cut out three identical parts with a seam allowance of 2 cm.

Description of work.

— Along the rounded edge of each section, make a double hem 1 cm wide.
— It is better to insert a special flexible metal tape into the hem. Fasten the ends.
— Fold the three pieces with the wrong sides facing up. The middle section is located under the two side ones (picture on the left).

- Stitch along the top edge with a 1cm seam allowance.
— Iron the top of the resulting part on the wrong side to a width of 2 cm.
- From the inside of the lambrequin, at a distance of 1 cm from the top edge, stitch the curtain braid on both sides.
— Stretch the braid threads so as to tighten only 1/3 of the width of each section on the right and left, while the middle third remains smooth
— Hang the lambrequin and secure it on the cornice with clamps at the beginning, end and between sections.

The simplest lambrequin. (with ponytails)

Such draped lambrequins are good for windows that do not need curtains, but which you still want to decorate somehow.

You will need:

1. Main fabric.
2. Fabric for lining (if necessary)
3. Gasket (if necessary) - interlining, etc.
4. Cornice or strip for lambrequin, dimensions 5x2 cm, required length
5. Decorative cord - approximately 1 m
6. 50 cm tape.
7. Soft pencil.
8. Furniture nails, hammer or stapler.
9. Drill, screwdriver, screws.

Operating procedure:

1. Attach a lambrequin strip or cornice to the wall above the window. It should be located approximately 10 cm higher window frame and so that its ends protrude beyond the window by about 10-15 cm. Cut the required amount of fabric. In order for the drapery to sag by 50 cm, you need a fabric 70 cm wide. The length of the fabric is determined by the length of the cornice plus 10 cm plus two lengths of the side “tails”. If this length is less than 140 cm, cut the required piece from the fabric 70 cm wide. If not, cut and sew two pieces together. Please note that the seam allowance should be 1.5 cm for each edge.

If you need to join two widths of fabric, do it so that the seam is not in the middle. It is better to attach small pieces of fabric to the main part on the sides.

If desired, cut the fabric for the lining and/or interfacing to the same size as the main fabric. The lining will make the lambrequin more voluminous, its contours and folds softer. However, the lining is not required.

If you do decide to use interlining, then lay the cut interfacing fabric, smooth it out, then place the main fabric on top, face up, and place the lining on top of it, face down. Pin all the fabrics together.

2. Sew all the fabrics using a machine, 1.5 cm from the edge, leaving 30 cm unstitched along the top edge. Remove the pins and make light cross cuts at the corners. Turn the fabric inside out and iron it, making sure that the lining fabric is not visible from the front. Hand sew up the unstitched hole.

Mark the middle of the top of the strip and the middle of the lambrequin. Using a stapler, staple the middle of the lambrequin to the center of the top of the strip. Then attach all the fabric to the placket. The ends of the fabric should hang freely around the edges of the strip.

3. Tie the hanging ends of the lambrequin with decorative cord. Consumption of approximately 50 cm of cord on each side. Tie the cord with a large bow, straighten the folds.

If you have enough experience, then the next lambrequin looks more beautiful.

Lambrequin - consisting of one swag plus curtains-garlands on the sides.

To properly sew such a lambrequin, a certain skill is required. After all, in order for the lambrequin to look harmonious, it is necessary to determine the number of sagging garlands so that they look beautiful with the curtain, carefully cut out and sew.

To do this you will need:

- textile
- curtain tape
- a board for the cornice, preferably covered with fabric.

measure the width of your cornice. Plus seam allowances. Decide how long the lambrequin will be and increase this size by two and a half times (don't forget the allowance!). Decide the number of folds on the lambrequin. Buy curtain tape - it makes folding easier. The choice of braid depends on what kind of folds you are going to make - small, medium or large. Draw a drawing.

The dotted line is the fold line. To make the folds fit better, you can cut the lambrequin on the bias: fold the fabric diagonally and attach the pattern to this diagonal with a dotted line. However, in this case you will need more material...

Considering the length of the curtain tape in the assembled state, calculate the width of the middle, undraped part. What I mean: the drapery consists of three parts - the drapery itself on both sides and the middle part between the beginning and end of the first fold. Knowing the length of the cornice, you subtract from it the length of the drapery tape in the finished state (twice! - there are only two sides). The remainder is side A.

Cut out the part of the swag. Hem and stitch. Sew curtain braid to the straight side edges of the lambrequin. Gather the ribbon and form folds. Align the draped and non-draped parts in one straight line, attach them to the cornice of the upper part with small nails.

The swag can also be fixed on the front part of the cornice, but in this case you will need to “mask” it with a figured baguette.

Already in the fixed state, form folds.

Cascade curtains or chill molds (ties), the eternal companions of the swag, are also easy to sew. For these, you decide the required height and width. Increase the width by two and a half times. Cut out a figure from fabric according to the design

Then you process the edges. Sew curtain tape along the top edge. Assemble the tape according to the instructions. Iron the upper part of the folds to the desired side. Attach to the cornice before you attach the swag to it.

A cascade curtain like the one in the picture can be made without curtain tape. The pattern is the same, but you form the folds with your hands, so that you get a drapery from the drawing, that is, one on top of the other.

Manual method of laying drapery.

This method requires a measuring stand or a thick sheet of packaging cardboard of the required size.

We place the previously cut fabric pattern on the measuring stand, observing the middle and beginning of the model’s shoulders, without stretching or adjusting the middle of the part.

The formation of the first fold begins from the starting point of the right shoulder of the part, lowering the so-called “roller” of the fold down from the cornice line by 10 - 15 cm. This value depends on the depth of the model.

In the same way, observing the depth of the fold (approximately 8 - 10 cm), it is laid at the starting point of the left shoulder.

We secure the first fold, as well as all subsequent ones, with 2-3 pins, so as not to warp during further folding.

Since the shoulder calculations were made, we know the distance between the folds along the cornice line (see the tip “Calculation of the shoulder of a lambrequin”). We mark this distance along the ruler with chalk or a disappearing felt-tip pen. It is very important to observe this value down to the millimeter, since the difference in the distance between the folds can lead to a skew of the entire model as a whole.

Each subsequent fold is formed in the same way. The same amount of sag between folds and the distance between folds along the eaves line are strictly observed.

The depth of each subsequent fold increases by 3 - 5 cm. This value depends on the drape of the fabric and the length of the model. The stiffer the fabric, the deeper the tuck opening.

After laying all the necessary folds, the most correctly and beautifully laid shoulder of the part is selected, and the darts formed after laying and cutting are mirrored from one side of the model to the other.

Then the selected shoulder of the model is pinned (very often, every 1.5 - 2 cm) along the cornice line. If the model is asymmetrical, then both shoulders of the model are pinned and drawn.

Using chalk or a disappearing felt-tip pen, draw a line of the cornice with a processing allowance of 1.5 - 2 cm along the line of the middle and shoulder of the model.

Use chalk, a disappearing felt-tip pen or pins to mark the bottom sag line of the model (along the selected half).

The pattern, pinned and marked to the middle, is removed from the measuring board. Without stretching the fabric, the unrendered shoulder of the model is also split.

On the cutting table, retreating 1-2 cm from the intended cornice line, cut off the excess fabric allowance for laying. This creates a line for processing the part along the cornice.

By splitting the shoulder of the part, we get the depth of each fold (dart solution).

For the most accurate and correct placement, it is necessary to transfer the dart solution in a mirror image from one half of the part to the other. To do this, fold the pattern exactly in half and cut out the dart solution. Then the drawn lines of the cornice are transferred.

Align the pattern folded in half along the bottom sag line of the model, observing processing allowances of 1 - 1.5 cm.

The pattern with worked out shoulders and the lower sag line is placed on the fitting stand to check all sizes.

The lower cut of the model is processed with a double sewing seam, an American seam (Moscow seam), or the entire part is duplicated with a lining.
In the “flip” model, the upper sag of the part is processed in the same way.

As a rule, the upper allowance along the cornice line is treated with Velcro or mounting tape, the so-called “belt”.

Examples of combinations of lambrequins and curtains.

Window decoration is one of the main directions in interior design. In order for the window opening to be framed into a beautiful frame of curtains, you need to know some of the subtleties of sewing. Curtains with lambrequins look romantic, which you can make yourself using patterns for beginner sewing enthusiasts. We offer interesting and educational master classes.

What is a lambrequin?

Beautiful word“lambrequin” came to us from France. This is the name for a beautifully draped piece of fabric, which is attached to the window opening in its upper part and is a decoration of the entire curtain composition.

Kinds

There are several types of lambrequins.

Simple

This is a piece of fabric that is placed into a gather on a curtain tape. It has a simple or figured bottom edge. The first option on the curtain tape is simple, the second is swag (a hanging gathering of fabric). In order to sew the first option, you need to fold and sew the bottom and side seams, and attach a textile tape to the top edge. The bottom of the product can be decorated with an arch. It is pulled together with tape and attached to the cornice. The swag option is draped in a certain way; to do this, you need to create the correct line of folds so that the fabric is even.

Soft

For this look, light flowing fabrics are used. They drape beautifully and look soft and airy. Soft lambrequins can be combined in various options, such as frills, bells, perekids or swags. Ruffles, ribbons or fringes are used for decoration.

Hard

For this option you need to choose a very dense fabric. It is stretched onto a frame made of wood or glued to a non-woven base. The so-called bandeau lambrequin does not have any bends or folds; it perfectly holds its shape, which can also be different types- round, straight, curly. For decoration you can use gold embroidery, tassels, cords or flowers.

Figured

This is a beautiful decorative element reminiscent of lace. The openwork pattern can be made using a stencil and burned using laser equipment.

Combined

The combination of hard and soft types of lambrequin allows you to create original models. As a rule, they use 3 or more drapery elements. The main condition is not to overload the design with unnecessary details.

What to sew from

Fashion trends extend to both lambrequins and other textile products. So, in the new season, it is preferable to opt for materials in pastel shades with a noble texture and a simple cut. Discreet and laconic decor will advantageously emphasize the elegance of flowing curtains.

For heavy, thick curtains, the following are suitable:

  • jacquard;
  • cotton;
  • atlas;
  • plush;
  • velvet.

They will add elegance and respectability to the design of the window opening.

For light and flowing curtains, the following are preferred:

  • silk;
  • taffeta;
  • polyester;
  • organza.

They will create a feeling of airiness and add grace to the interior of the room.

It is necessary to select material for curtains and lambrequins based on the style of the living space. For the living room, you can choose noble velvet or shiny jacquard; for the bedroom, linen and satin would be an excellent solution; for the kitchen, linen, cotton and polyester are ideal. These materials are practical and beautiful, especially when choosing the Provence style.

Product sizing

For the lambrequin to look neat, it must match the size of the window opening.

In this case, you need to take into account the following details:

  1. The width of the lambrequin should be 20-25 cm longer than the rod on each side. In this case, the product will have a finished look and will provide additional protection from sunlight.
  2. If you need to make a folded lambrequin, then its width should be equal to the length of the cornice, increased by a factor of 1.3 to 2.
  3. The height of the product depends on the choice of model and your own preference. By classical standards, the lambrequin should cover 1/3 of the window and the wall above it. But if the ceilings are high, then, naturally, it is not necessary to close the partition.

Accurate calculation of the pattern will save you from various alterations.

Making a pattern

First, you can prepare a pattern on a small scale, and then transfer it to fabric in the right proportions.

Lambrequin pattern with dimensions:

  1. For a single-section product, take a length equal to the length of the cornice.
  2. If the product consists of two parts, then one overlaps the other by one third.
  3. When choosing a three-section product, you need to perform the following calculation: the length of the rod is divided by 7 and multiplied by 3. Each section must be equal to the length of the resulting indicator. For example, the length of the cornice is 180 cm: 180:7×3=77. Each cut should be equal to 77 cm. Each element should overlap the other by 1/3.

With more elements, the folds will begin to break, and the appearance of the drapery will not be so neat.

If in the chosen model the swags do not overlap each other, then the space between them is decorated with small decorative elements - chill molds (decoration from a strip of fabric cut in a spiral), ties, bells. In this way, you can hide the cords formed when the parts are pulled into folds.

Patterns of the product must be drawn on the wall or big table.

Step-by-step master classes

Let's look in detail at how to make lambrequins with your own hands with patterns for beginners.

Simple lambrequin

Even a beginner can handle this model.

To do this, just follow a few steps:

  1. Measure the length of the window opening (for example, 220 cm) and calculate the length and width of the cut.
  2. Cut out a strip of fabric the right size from 30 to 60 cm long and 3 m wide. 3 cm is added to the width of the finished canvas to process the edge.
  3. Finish the panels along the edges and bottom of the product using a hem foot or do it by hand.
  4. Sew the fabric to the curtain tape: bend the top of the fabric to a width equal to the width of the tape plus 1 cm, and press the hem with an iron. We sew the tape on one side of the central strip of the tie, first bending it 1 cm along the edges of the lambrequin. Then we sew the tape on the other side of the tie.

On last stage we tighten the canvas with a cord and decorate home interior new thing.

Soft

Choose airy fabric: silk, organza or veil. The model consists of the following elements: a sagging loop (swag) and side elements (tie).

Step-by-step instruction:

  1. We make a drawing. We divide the length of the product into 3 parts: tie (¼ of the cut width) + swag (½ of the cut width) + tie (¼ of the cut width). The height of the lambrequin on the side is 2 times longer than the central part. Smoothly draw the bottom line of the canvas.
  2. We cut the fabric and form folds.
  3. We process the bottom with bias tape, and attach curtain tape on top. Don't forget to leave 3 cm at the edges of the fabric for processing.

Hard

You can sew a rigid lambrequin with your own hands without a pattern; to do this, you just need to accurately measure the window space. When choosing fabric, be guided by the density of the texture. Jacquard or satin will look good.

We cut and sew:

  1. Fabric cutting should be done according to the rules: it is important to follow the direction of the grain thread and the pattern of the material.
  2. When creating a pattern, do not forget to allow seam allowances.
  3. You can create rigidity of the fabric using dublerin; it is fixed with an iron.
  4. All parts of the fabric are sewn onto curtain tape.
  5. The bottom cut of the fabric is treated with bias tape or finishing braid.

High-quality work will decorate your home.

Children's

You can sew an elegant lambrequin for a children's room. For a girl - a lush frill; if a rigid base is used, then decor in the form of scallops, ruffles, bows, and coquelets will be suitable.

For boys, a strict simple lambrequin with a small frill is suitable.

Materials for work:

  • white organza - length 4 m, width - 0.80;
  • light green organza - length 4 m, width - 0.80 m;
  • white and green bias tape;
  • curtain braid.

You can prepare various decorative elements for decoration.

Let's get started:

  1. You need to prepare paper patterns. We begin to cut the white fabric at an angle of 45 degrees, like an arch, this will create beautiful coattails. The longest part will be in the middle of the cut - 0.8 m. The cut of green fabric can be done along the lengthwise lines, the length of the product at the ends is 0.8 m, in the middle - 0.4 m.
  2. Finish the edges with bias tape (except for the top one).
  3. Align the top edges of the white and green organza right sides up and stitch.
  4. Fold the top edge 4 cm, apply curtain tape and stitch all 3 layers of fabric.
  5. Pull the cord to the required width.

You can decorate the lambrequin with flowers, applique or embroidery.

With pleats

In order to make such a model, you need to take fabric 3 times longer than the length of the cornice. For example, if its length is 2.20 m, then the fabric needs 6.60 m

Instructions:

  1. Prepare a template.
  2. Cut the green chiffon 10-20 cm shorter than the pink one.
  3. Sew two pieces of fabric along the top edge.
  4. Place folds of 8-10 cm, the central fold will be a bow.
  5. Finish the edges with bias tape.
  6. Make a 5 cm hem on the wrong side and stitch along the edge.
  7. Attach the curtains and lambrequin to the curtain.

If desired, you can create more complex model, as in the photo.

With ruffles

A lambrequin with ruffles can decorate any room. You can sew it from two fabrics: one is the main one, and the second is a decorative tie. You need to take as a basis the width of the canvas equal to the length of the cornice.

What you need for work:

  1. Fabric yellow and white. Yellow fabric - length 4 m and width 0.45 m. White fabric: length - 2 m, width - 1 m.
  2. Eyelets - 11 pieces.
  3. Bias binding – 2 m.

Attaching to the cornice can be done in another way, not with eyelets, but with tape.

Let's get started:

  1. Create a pattern for yellow fabric - a rectangle 4 x 0.45 m, for white - a polygon 2 x 1 x 0.45 m. Using the pattern, cut out the details on the fabric.
  2. Finish the cut details along the edges with bias tape. Do not process the top cut.
  3. We fold the yellow and white fabrics with the front side up, the panel of white fabric should be on the side of the yellow one. Sew the parts along the top edge and finish with a zigzag stitch.
  4. The upper cut is bent 5 cm at left side and is stitched.
  5. WTO is carried out - wet heat treatment iron.
  6. Mark the eyelets, step 40 cm
  7. The inner circumference of the eyelet is outlined with a pencil. Using scissors, holes are made for snapping the eyelets into place.
  8. 11 ties are made from bias tape to support the lambrequin.
  9. Thread the trim pieces through the eyelets and tie them to the cornice.

When finished, straighten the folds so that there is an equal distance between them.

From strips of fabric

You can create an interesting model from strips of fabric of the same length and different widths. The length of the finished product will be 2 m.

What you need for sewing:

  1. 18 strips of fabric, the width of the strip is equal to the length of the cornice (take 2 m as an example).
  2. The length is multiplied by a factor from 1.5 to 2. Divide the resulting length by 18 - this will be the width of one strip (22.2 cm). In our work, the length of the stripes will be different. The first stripes are 1 m long, and then each subsequent strip is reduced by 10 cm.
  3. White fabric 8.4 m long, 22.2 cm wide.
  4. Beige fabric 6.4 m long, 22.2 cm wide
  5. Curtain tape.

The length and color of the stripes can be any, it depends on desire and imagination.

Let's get started:

  1. Finish the edges of the material with a hem stitch or bias tape. When cutting, do not forget to add 1.5-2 cm to the hem of the product.
  2. Lay out the stripes according to the diagram, put curtain tape on top, stitch all layers on sewing machine together.
  3. Hang the lambrequin on the cornice. Tie the strips together.

If the strips of fabric are not rectangular in shape, then they can be applied by overlapping.

Secrets of successful drapery

Curtains and drapes decorated with drapery look especially attractive. For draperies, it is better to choose fabric of solid colors. Soft delicate folds can be created from materials that drape well - cambric, silk, organza, velor.

Curtain tape is great way set an even fold across the entire width of the curtain, since a fold is already included in its structure.

Using draperies made using the swag and jabot method, you can create additional decorative elements.

All these methods will help create an expressive window decoration and will transform even the simplest curtain materials.

Video

The video shows how to sew lambrequins with your own hands, instructions are given with patterns.

Hearth keepers always try to bring comfort and harmony to the house. Ordinary curtains can be a real highlight of your interior. Right decorated curtains in the living room, kitchen and nursery can give the interior the necessary shade, complete the Baroque, Rococo and even high-tech style. To do this, it is enough to choose the right design of lambrequins and figure out how to sew such decor at home.

How to sew a lambrequin on windows with your own hands

Many lambrequins look elaborate and complex; the beauty of the fabric drapery is amazing. But in fact, almost all types of lambrequins are very easy to create. To get started, all you need is . Start simple, try it. Happened? Great, these skills are enough to try, especially since in some ways it’s even easier than dealing with an elastic band. When the curtains are sewn, hanging and pleasing to the eye, you can safely figure out the question of how to sew curtains with a lambrequin with your own hands. We got the curtains done, which means we don’t need any lambrequin! It's better to start with simple models , but after reading to the end, you will understand that all lambrequins are easy to make.

How to sew a simple lambrequin

For this you need a little:

  1. A piece of fabric for curtains. Cotton or linen will do; you can use any medium-weight fabric.
  2. Threads. Take contrasting fabrics for basting and matching fabrics for the main sewing.
  3. Needle. Take the one you are comfortable using.
  4. Sewing machine. No matter how funny it may seem, curtains are convenient for sewing - children's ones sewing machines who sew for real—. They are portable, lightweight, the sewing speed is lower, which means that a beginner has less chance of ruining the stitching.
  5. Bias tape. Choose a fabric that matches the tone or contrasts - it’s good to use on the edges of the lambrequin.
  6. Strip with loops for cornice. This is not necessary; you can make the loops yourself. But it's much easier this way.
  7. Ruler and chalk. This is for those whose eyes are weak.
  8. Scissors. What if you have to cut something off?

And now about the main thing - about the sizes. Take a tape measure (my husband probably has one) and measure the width of your cornice. And then climb onto a stool and measure the distance from the cornice to the level where you want the lambrequin to end. The first value is the width of the finished lambrequin, the second is its length. Almost.

Multiply the width of the lambrequin by 1.5 if you want small folds, by 2 if you want medium folds, and by 2.5 if you want to sew a beautiful lambrequin, as in the picture below. Add another 3 cm to the width - 1.5 on each side for finishing the edges. And add 5 cm to the height, 1.5 to the bottom edge, and the rest to decorate the top. The lambrequin must also be attached to the cornice. Take bias tape at the rate of 1 width + 2 heights + 10 cm (just in case). Take the strip with loops exactly the width of the cornice, +5 cm for the same case. Ready?

Go:

  1. Finish the bottom and side edges of the fabric with bias tape.
  2. Take your workpiece and place it on the table or floor. Remember - how to sew a dress - with folds - this school program. Take a ruler and chalk and mark along the top raw edge where you will have folds.
  3. Pin the folds together by stitching the lambrequin with a throwing stitch. Measure to see if it matches the length of the cornice. If all is well, stitch.
  4. Then sew a strip with loops to the almost finished product, iron the folds and hang them on the curtain rod over the curtains. That's all!

How to sew a soft lambrequin

If you can handle simple folds, then you can handle a soft lambrequin! The only difficulty is that you need to make patterns. We have prepared patterns and photos for you ready-made elements lambrequins, which can be sewn with your own hands.

Jabot

A traditional element of any soft lambrequin. Pattern diagram:

Gather the cut fabric into folds, sew it, sew a strip to fix it on the cornice, and you can attach it! This is what it looks like:

Tie

You can decorate the corners of a room with this tie if the window is the entire width of the wall:

And this one serves as a separate element in a complex lambrequin:

Coquille

This is a type of tie. Performed according to the following patterns:

The mold is often placed between the swags.

Swag

This element looks very impressive, and there is nothing complicated in creating it. Cut out on the basis of a trapezoid diagonally:

“Tunnels” are sewn along the sides, into which the tape is threaded, then it is tightened, the edges are sewn, and the swag is ready.

Swag turning into frill:

These lambrequins are good for decorating interiors with Baroque, Rococo or Art Nouveau elements. If you have strict minimalism or hi-tech, a hard lambrequin hiding the cornice will look much better.

How to sew a rigid lambrequin yourself - step-by-step instructions

Simple, practical hard lambrequin can be hung in the kitchen, we will go through step by step how to sew it at home with your own hands using a pattern:

  1. Prepare thick cardboard. You can stock up on them at a hardware store.
  2. Do preliminary measurements height, width and protrusion for the future lambrequin.
  3. Draw a lambrequin on cardboard according to the dimensions. Here are some pattern ideas:

  4. Using the cardboard cutout, draw and cut out a lambrequin from fabric and the same from padding polyester, +2 cm on each side to cover the cardboard base.
  5. Fold and secure the edges to the cardboard for the overhang.
  6. Glue the padding polyester to the base with construction glue, then the fabric, wrap and secure the edges. You can do this with glue or construction tape, but it’s safer to use a stapler.

It can be used with curtains, curtains, tulle, etc. This detail will add elegance and uniqueness to the curtains. And the more complex it looks, the more interesting and unique the curtains themselves look.

    On a note! Lambrequins as decorative elements appeared in the Middle Ages. The very first versions were made of wood. Nowadays they are mainly made of fabric. Initially, the wooden structure was used to hide the cornices. Now this element is just a decoration, although in some cases it still helps to hide the distance between the ceiling and the folds of the curtain.

    Lambrequins are in demand, and therefore you can simply buy them in a store. But, if you follow the instructions, sewing them yourself is not at all difficult.

    Today, original elements in the design of curtains can be found not only in the living room

    Kinds

It turns out to be a kind of cascade of fabric that can perfectly decorate windows. Often a jabot or frill is combined with another decorative element - swags.

    On a note! Jabot is a word that came into the Russian language from France.

    For soft lambrequins it is better to use easily draping fabrics

    The frill drapery on the lambrequin plays a decorative role

    Tie

    The main function of a lambrequin is to decorate the interior

    The mold can act as a swag separator

    The mold is often placed in the center of the lambrequin

    Swag

    These are semicircular shaped window decor elements with beautiful drapery. Swags can be called classics - they have been known almost since the birth of lambrequins and are very often used these days.

    Swags can be:

    • symmetrical, which have the same dimensions, height, and are located horizontally;
    • asymmetrical;
    • without top sagging - transfers;
    • may have vertical wings - vertical swags.

    Making lambrequins with your own hands

    Some options can be done yourself with a minimum of effort. Others will require long and painstaking work. That is why it is better to immediately decide on the final shape and type of product, and only then begin work.

    Important! You should not make lush and large lambrequins for a small room.

    Let's look at how to make a decorative element for various types of windows with your own hands.

    In most cases, sewing a lambrequin requires a sewing machine.

    Soft

    Soft lambrequins can have different shape. For some, you will need to make separate decorative elements, while for others it is enough to simply purchase the right amount of material and cut it correctly. Let's consider one of the options for making a soft lambrequin with de jabot and one large sag.

    For production you will need:

    • textile;
    • lining fabric (optional);
    • curtain tape;
    • bias tape;
    • scissors, needles, tailor's pins, threads, etc.

    It is very important to do correct calculation fabrics for lambrequin

    When calculating, it is important to add seam allowances to the height. The fold assembly factor is 2.5 or 3. You need to multiply the length of the cornice or the required length of any individual element by this number to get the total fabric costs. In general, each detail is calculated separately.

    Advice! It is best to first draw the final version on paper, then make paper patterns and lay them out the way the lambrequin should be.

    1. A pattern template is created for making de jabot. The easiest way to draw it is on paper. The base is a triangle.

      In some models of lambrequins, the one-piece fabric turns into a frill

    2. Next, a decorative element is cut out using the made pattern, its lower and upper edges are sharpened with bias tape.

      Jabot is used in simple and complex textile combinations

    3. Then the de jabot itself is formed. The fabric is laid out on the floor and folds are draped from it. It is important to ensure that they turn out even. For convenience, the folds in the upper part of the future element are fixed with tailor's pins.

      A 45 degree cut will make it easier to drape the part.

    4. The formed folds are sewn along the upper part. A second similar element is made, mirroring the first.
    5. For the convenience of forming the finished product, it is necessary to secure the elements to the curtain. Then make a big slack. Its edges are fixed to previously made and fixed de jabots.

      Some constructions of lambrequins do not require special knowledge and skills

    6. Excess fabric allowances are trimmed after the product is assembled and fixed. The edges are covered with a piece of fabric. All that remains is to stitch the curtain tape and sew the folds.

      Before sewing on a sewing machine, it is better to sweep the prepared parts

    How to hang and secure

    The soft lambrequin can be secured to the curtain using regular curtain hooks. The main thing is to stitch the ribbon with the loops, then carefully straighten out all the folds.

    Hard

    A rigid lambrequin is a simpler design because it does not require the manufacture of complex drapery elements. It is also called bando. Let's look at how to make this version of window framing.

    Required materials and tools

    To make it you need to use:

    • textile;
    • a dense base - in this case it is a piece of dublerin;
    • scissors;
    • adhesive tapes 1 cm wide;
    • iron.

    We create exclusive models of lambrequins with our own hands

    Step-by-step master class on making

    1. First, cut out pieces of fabric and dublerin required sizes. Next, the fabric is laid on top of the dublerin so that it extends slightly beyond the boundaries of the base material.

      A gang uses much less fabric than other types of lambrequins

    2. Gluing the fabric to the dublerin is done using hot steam from the iron. You need to move the iron starting from the edge.
    3. Next, you need to turn the workpiece over. The edges are processed using adhesive tape and iron.

      Adhesive tape is glued along the edge of the dublerin blank

    4. After this, the edges of the fabric need to be trimmed as close to the adhesive tape as possible. The protruding parts of the material are tucked in and, due to the glue, they are glued to the dublerin.

      The protection is removed from the tape and an edge is obtained that is well impregnated with glue.

    5. For additional processing, you need to place another type of adhesive tape along the edge of the product and fix it with an iron.

      For reliability, secure the edges with another adhesive tape.

    6. You can make several beautiful decorative volumetric elements from the remnants of fabric and dublerin and attach them to the front side of the lambrequin.

      Dublerin drapes well, so from its remains you can make decorations for a lambrequin

    How to install and secure

    The bandeau is secured using Velcro. The cornice on which the lambrequin will be attached must first be degreased. The part of the tape that has hooks is glued to the cornice. The soft part of the tape is glued to the bandeau. This design cannot be washed, you can only vacuum it.

    Openwork (curly)

    This type of lambrequin is not simple option window design, so if you want to start making it, you will have to immediately set yourself up for painstaking work.

    Required materials and tools

    To make an element using the guilloche method (burning on fabric), you will need:

    • doublerin;
    • textile;
    • pattern with the selected pattern;
    • baking paper;
    • glue web;

    After hanging curtains on the cornice, the understanding often arises that in order to achieve a more attractive appearance, in addition to drapes and curtains, the window opening must also be decorated with a lambrequin. If the curtains were made independently, then make suitable option you can do the same. In this case, it is best if this detail of the window design is rigid, providing not only a more attractive appearance of the curtains, but also visually. And if you need a hard lambrequin, then do this work You can do it quite simply and quickly, and on your own.

    A rigid lambrequin, also called a bandeau, is understood as a decorative element of curtains made on a dense basis using fabric and various accessories. This product received its second name due to the fact that for its production the fabric of the same name is used - bandeau, which is glued to the base material, thereby providing support for the required shape. In addition to its aesthetic purpose, gangs are also used to hide the cornice on which curtains are placed. A rigid lambrequin is also used to visually change the height of a room, namely to increase it.

    Very important when making a hard one is its height, which should be 1/6 of the length of the main sheet. In order for the lambrequin to be combined with the curtains, it can be made from exactly the same fabric or another material correctly selected in color and texture. For decoration, you can use various accessories, fringe, lace and much more.

    A lambrequin made using several types of material differing from each other in color and texture and complemented by various decorative inserts and fringe. Thus, various patterns or designs can be created on it. The use of such a lambrequin will make the design of the window opening even more interesting, and the curtain itself, even if it is made of a plain, not bright material, will look very beautiful.

    Preparatory work when creating a rigid lambrequin

    Before you start sewing a rigid lambrequin with your own hands, you need to prepare all the tools and materials, the main ones of which include:

    • the main type of fabric of the required size or several types when sewing a two- or three-color lambrequin;
    • bandeau fabric;
    • decorative elements and fittings;
    • threads;
    • pins;
    • paper;
    • Velcro tape;
    • scissors, iron and sewing machine.

    Bandeau fabric is a dense textile non-woven material on which an adhesive composition is applied on one or both sides. To create a more voluminous rigid cut lambrequin, you can use bandeau fabric with a foam layer. Bonding of the base material to a dense base is carried out due to the impact high temperatures, for which the materials used, combined with each other, are ironed.

    Step-by-step instructions for making a rigid lambrequin

    In order to sew a rigid lambrequin using the above tools and materials, you must step by step follow certain instructions, the main steps of which include:

    • pattern of the product in full size in accordance with the taken measurements of the length of the cornice on thick paper. More often top part The pattern is a rectangle, and the bottom one is those figures and details that the performer can desire. A rigid lambrequin can be made of several parts, each of which overlaps the previous element by a certain distance. Moreover, each separate part the pattern must have its own pattern and must be made separately, stitched together only at the very last stage of the work;
    • transferring the paper pattern to adhesive material, and cutting it out without leaving space for allowances;
    • placing adhesive material on the wrong side of the curtain fabric so that on each side of the manufactured product there is space for allowances of at least 2 cm on the top and 1.5 on all other sides;
    • Having secured the resulting workpiece with pins on the ironing board, it is necessary to completely iron it until all the adhesive fabric is firmly attached to the curtain. After this, the workpiece must be turned over and ironed again from the front side;
    • making a lining layer by applying the blank to any suitable piece of fabric, tracing the pattern and cutting it out. Then attach the lining fabric to the main workpiece using pins so that their front sides coincide, and the adhesive fabric is the topmost layer of this “pie”. Sew all sides except the top edge, turn the product right side out and iron thoroughly;
    • fold the allowances left for stitching on top of the lambrequin inward and stitch at a distance of 0.3-0.5 cm from the edge of the product. To make this stitch look beautiful, you can use contrasting threads or close it by sewing a decorative cord or braid at the same time as the stitching;
    • sew or glue Velcro tape along the upper edge of the product, the counterpart of which should be secured to the cornice.
    • If the lambrequin has rounded or sharp curves, before turning the lambrequin right side out, it is necessary to make notches along all edges of the product at the allowances so as not to damage the stitching. This will eliminate the tension of the fabric and allow it to lie beautifully, maintaining its shape. In addition, before sewing a rigid lambrequin, it is worth considering the possibility of fabric shrinkage. So, if such a product is used to decorate a kitchen, where conditions are sometimes created high humidity, after their return to normal condition and drying of the moistened lambrequin, it may lose its shape, warp or deform in any other way. In order to avoid this, before using a particular piece of fabric as the main or lining layer, it must be washed and dried.

      Lambrequin on a solid base

      If the density of a solid lambrequin is not enough, then as a base you can choose not an adhesive material, but thin plywood thickness no more than 2 mm. In this case, all actions to cover the base with material will be performed using a construction stapler. At the same time, during production you can also use various fabrics and decorations, which are stitched and sewn to the base material before covering the plywood with it. And in order for the rigid lambrequin to look more voluminous, on that part plywood blank, which will serve as the basis for the front curtain fabric, it is necessary to glue thin foam rubber.

      Having carefully studied these instructions, the question of how to sew a rigid lambrequin will no longer arise. And every housewife who has at least a little experience in cutting and sewing can quickly do it on her own, paying sufficient attention to the clarity and accuracy of edge processing to achieve a high-quality result. At the same time, she will receive maximum pleasure from the work done and will complement the interior of the rooms in her home and the beautiful curtains themselves with an exclusive decorative element.
