We glue the chintz with dublerin: apply the adhesive side to the wrong side of the chintz and carefully iron it through damp cloth. Using a simple pencil we draw flowers and petals on the double paper. Having cut out the details, we apply them to the curtain and attach them in a zigzag pattern, using a contrasting thread selected to match the bright pattern.

Operating procedure

1. Sew loops for the curtain. From striped fabric, we cut out two strips 23 cm wide, fold them in half lengthwise and stitch them, departing from the edge 1.5 cm. Iron the seam, trying not to touch the fold of the fabric with the iron.

2. Having stitched the strip to the edge at one end, turn it inside out using a pencil or pen. We remove the auxiliary stitch, straighten the stitched seam and iron the finished blank for the loops. We process the second strip in the same way. We cut the resulting blanks into 25 cm pieces.

3. Cut the linen fabric to the size of the window, not forgetting to add seam allowances along the edges: 1.5 cm on top, 5 cm on the bottom and 3 cm on the sides. Please note that in finished product The length of the loops will be 12 cm, so do not forget to add them and shorten the fabric accordingly. We fold the fabric on the sides twice and sew it off, departing 1.5 cm from the edge. We pin the loops folded in half to the upper edge of the curtain from the wrong side and attach them. We distribute the loops evenly across the entire width of the curtain: with a curtain width of 140 cm, the distance between the loops will be about 12 cm.

4. Cut a strip of 30x150 cm from the checkered fabric. Fold one of the short edges and iron it on the wrong side. We apply the finishing strip face down to the wrong side, aligning the fabrics along the upper cut. We chop the canvas along the entire length using fitting pins. Then we bend the other side of the strip, aligning it clearly with the processed edge of the flax. Trim the excess fabric and iron the fold. We sew the parts with a seam, retreating 1.5 cm from the edge.

5. Bend the finishing strip onto the front side of the curtain. Straighten and iron the stitched seam. Fold the bottom edge of the checkered stripe inward and iron the fold. Laying the curtain on the surface large table, straighten the linen and checkered finishing fabric. Pin the bottom edge of the strip to the linen. We attach the finishing strip along the perimeter with a seam to the edge.

6. Using a pattern, we create a paper pattern of a flower on a long stem. We cut out flowers from different fabrics - striped and checkered. We make two of the five flowers “in a mirror image”.

7. After ironing the folded fabric, mark a line for the bottom edge of the curtain. We pin the flowers (you can baste) to the bottom of the canvas, aligning the cut of the stem with the fold line. To make the image livelier, we place the flowers at different heights.

8. We attach the flower applique along the edge with a zigzag, setting the stitch length to 0.5 mm, width to 3.5 mm. Using a steam iron heated to maximum, iron the seams of the appliqué along the front and back sides of the curtain. We bend the bottom edge and stitch along the front side with a seam 2 centimeters from the edge. That's all! You can hang your masterpiece on the window!

1. Manually hem the main curtain fabric twice, 2.5 cm each.

Choosing curtains for the kitchen

Measure the overall dimensions of the window, the distance of the window to the floor and ceiling, if there are several windows, the distance between them.

Advice: if the distance between the windows is no more than 30 cm, then they can be designed as one whole.

The width of the curtain is determined as follows:

• measure the length of the cornice rod between the two stops;
• multiply the resulting value by 2-2.5 for heavy fabrics, by 3 for thin ones (allowance factor for tails);
• Divide the result by the width of the fabric, then, if necessary, add allowances for the side seams (if the side cuts are not edge).

After these manipulations and calculations, it becomes clear how many vertical parts future curtains may consist of. If there are two or more parts, an additional 18 cm is added to each for the panels to overlap each other when closing.

The length of the curtain is the main length, according to the drawing, plus allowances for the hem of the bottom cut and the method of processing the top (ties, hanging loops, eyelets). It should also be remembered that the curtains do not reach the floor by 1.5 cm, and are made below the window sill by 2.5 cm.

Next, you need to decide on the design of the curtains, pre-select the fabric and make a final calculation of the material, taking into account all allowances for draperies. We recommend purchasing materials one meter more for unforeseen cases.

We offer you several simple solutions in the design of a kitchen window.

Model 1. “Light curtain” up to the length of the window sill

Initial data: wooden kitchen window 140x140 cm, the length of the cornice rod between the stops is 165 cm.

Materials:

• coupon curtain (compositionally finished fabric with already decorated side and bottom edges) - 260x155 cm;
• tulle;
• organza;
• curtain fabric - 265x155 cm;
• cornice tape (textile tape with already prepared loops for plastic hooks cornice) - 262 cm.

For a curtain not made from a coupon curtain, you will need bias tape to match the fabric (about 4 m long), the amount corresponds to the length of the curved cut (measured according to the pattern plus 2 cm for finishing the edges), threads to match the color.

Construction of the pattern:

• the rectangle is divided in half;
• 90 cm from the top cut is marked;
• a smooth curvilinear line is formed.

Sewing technology:

• side sections are sewn with a hem seam with closed sections, seam width 10 mm;
• the lower curved cut is edged with bias tape, the ends of the tape are pre-folded inward; the upper cut is folded 2 cm and stitched to the wrong side, width 2-3 mm from the edge;
• The cornice tape is laid on top and adjusted along the edges to the canvas, the edges are folded inward. We iron the finished curtain and hang it on the cornice, evenly distributing the allowances on the folds.

Model 2. “Domino Principle”

Initial data: window with open access to it, the ability to make curtains to the floor, a cornice with two rods.

Materials:

• curtain fabric;
• tulle;
• organza;
• two canvases of contrasting colors (calculation of the material is made according to the method described above, taking into account the overlap of the panels);
• cornice textile tape and two ribbon ties or cords for each canvas;
• two hooks or clips for curtains (can be replaced with painted self-tapping screws screwed into a wooden frame).

Cutting is very simple - these are two rectangular canvases of the appropriate size.

Sewing technology:

• hem all open sections and stitch the cornice textile tape.

The finished curtains are each hung on their own separate rod, secured with ties and attached to hooks or clips.

Model 3. “Cafe”

Initial data: wide double or single-leaf wooden window, cornice.

Materials:

• curtain fabric - 30-50 cm wide;
• thick fabric for lower curtains;
• cornice textile tape for the upper tier;
• slats (length similar to the length of the window sash) with fasteners.

Cutting and sewing: the upper tier is cut and made according to the principles described above.

If desired top part models can be crocheted, or made from the same fabric as the bottom one, decorated with fringe or frill. The curtains of the lower tier are made taking into account the allowance for the drawstring, where the rail will be threaded, the width of the curtain can correspond to the window or have an easy assembly (taking into account the allowances for the side seams, the width of the canvas is multiplied by a factor of 1.5), the length of the lower tier curtain is 1/3 of the window opening.

This model is the most practical and economical in terms of materials costs. The slats can be replaced with a string or cord attached to colored nails driven into the window casing.

In general, there is no limit to the variety of window designs. You can simply hang the canvas the width of the window, secure it with a ribbon and secure the tie to the wall on one side. The result is an asymmetrical drapery, convenient if the table or refrigerator is located near the window. Or you can stitch a drawstring in the middle of the same fabric and assemble the drapery vertically. The lower edge of such a curtain is finished with a contrasting frill.
