Homemade snowmobile from a chainsaw. Drawings, diagrams

In winter, movement becomes difficult, so you need a universal vehicle for driving through snowdrifts. Using available tools, you can begin constructing a snowmobile. With the right approach, a homemade snow scooter will become an indispensable assistant in winter.

You can begin assembling the structure after developing the drawings. The reliability of the future vehicle depends on their accuracy.

You can make a snowmobile using one of the chainsaws as a basis:

  • Friendship. Acts as a power plant. The result is a simple device without unnecessary parts. Such a vehicle will have a fairly large mass with little power, and there will be no safety covers. The saw engine has a power of 1 kW and runs on gasoline. Tool weight 12 kilograms;
  • Ural. A more reliable option with more power and less weight. The tool is environmentally friendly and works even at sub-zero temperatures. Two-stroke saw engine with a power of 3.6 kW. Tool weight 11.7 kilograms;
  • Calm. The advantage of this saw is its environmental friendliness and low noise level.

Having decided on a chainsaw, you can start designing a snowmobile.

The design consists of the following parts:

  1. Steering wheel;
  2. Fuel tank;
  3. Power plant of petrol tools;
  4. Steering ski stand bushings (two pipes with a diameter of 30 cm);
  5. Control ski;
  6. Crawler gear;
  7. Track bed;
  8. Support base;
  9. Track roller;
  10. Back brace-limiter;
  11. Track tensioner;
  12. Track tension gear;
  13. Bearing;
  14. trunk;
  15. Driver's seat;
  16. 1st part of chain drive;
  17. 2nd part of chain drive;
  18. Driver's seat backrest holder;
  19. 1st gear driven sprocket;
  20. 2nd gear drive sprocket;
  21. Sprockets for the 2nd stage of chain transmission;
  22. Sprockets for the 1st stage of chain transmission;
  23. Steering knuckle lever;
  24. Traction steering rack;
  25. Bipod with steering shaft;
  26. Front axle beams;
  27. Track mounting shaft;
  28. Track tension axles.

How to make a snowmobile from a chainsaw?

The manufacturing diagram and drawings will allow you to correctly connect the power plant, transmission, track or track. There is no need to make the latter yourself - they will fit from Buran. And for children's transport, an ordinary ski track is quite enough.

Sequence of work:

  1. Frame. Spot welding a sheet of steel of two millimeters is connected in the middle of the structure. It will house the gearbox and chain drive shaft;
  2. Also, a small module is mounted in the middle under the operator’s seat;
  3. The front of the support base and the cross beams of the front axle are fastened with a beam. The connecting element can be taken water pipe with a diameter of 1.5 centimeters. At the end of the pipe, weld bushings under the steering, mount a stand in the middle;
  4. Rack. Steel corners 3*3 centimeters will do. They are connected by steel crossbars - gussets two millimeters thick, ensuring the reliability and durability of the structure. A stand is needed to secure the motor;
  5. Caterpillar. Using finished item from "Buran", you need to cut the workpiece by 0.5 meters. The finished caterpillar is secured with a transport tape. For the manufacture of gears, 1.5 centimeter sheets of cardboard are suitable;
  6. Drive shaft. A pipe 1.4 centimeters thick is suitable. The upper flange secures the gears. Trunnion tips are welded at the back of the drive shaft;
  7. Motor. A snow scooter with a chainsaw motor, so the installation itself must be in good working order. Even old gas powered tools require proper maintenance and use. The gearbox must operate without interruption. The power of such a snowmobile is not enough to transport goods and more than one person;
  8. Stars. The right tip will be longer than the left. The extension is necessary to produce a keyway that secures the chain sprocket. The track shaft sprocket is secured with a nut with the required thread pre-made on it;
  9. Steering. A handlebar from a scooter or bicycle will do. Main, correct installation– the central axis must adjust the traction force to be able to control the skis and, accordingly, move easily;
  10. Brake and lights. There is no particular need for a braking system, since the vehicle does not gain high speed. For movement at night, you can install a simple lighting system.

A homemade design is not registered, so the vehicle should be used away from public roads.

With the beginning of winter, especially snowy ones, problems associated with movement appear. Few people know that a snowmobile can be constructed from available materials as an alternative means of transportation in winter conditions.

At the same time, there is no need for serious expenses. Moreover, if there is a lot of snow, you won’t be able to get far by car, but a snowmobile will allow you to move in such conditions without any problems.

The assembly of any structure begins with the development of drawings. You can place all the necessary units on them, after which you can begin the practical implementation of the idea. Therefore, at this stage you should decide which brand of chainsaw is suitable for implementing your plan.

Choosing a chainsaw

In retail outlets you can find several models of chainsaws. The most popular of them are the Druzhba chainsaw, the Ural chainsaw and the Shtil chainsaw. Before choosing, you should think carefully about comparing them specifications.

Chainsaw "Friendship"

This is the simplest chainsaw that can be used as an engine for a snowmobile. The result is a simple design without anything superfluous.

The only drawback is the large weight with a relatively low power. In addition, the structure does not have parts for attaching safety covers. In addition, this design is outdated in all respects.

Specifications:

  • Power – 1 kW;
  • Weight – 12 kg;
  • Engine (two-stroke);
  • Tire length – 45 cm;
  • Fuel (gasoline).

Chainsaw "Ural"

This is a specialized model that has greater reliability, power and less weight in relation to power. This is an environmentally friendly unit capable of operating in extreme conditions.

If you decide to use a Ural chainsaw, then this a good choice. Its technical characteristics fully correspond to those stated.

Specifications.

  • Power – 3.68 kW;
  • Weight – 11.7 kg;
  • Engine (gasoline two-stroke);
  • Overall dimensions – 46x88x46 cm;

Chainsaw "Calm"

It is also suitable for creating a snowmobile with your own hands. This is an environmentally friendly device, absolutely harmless to humans. The main advantage of the chainsaw is its light weight and quiet operation, compared to the Ural chainsaw, and even more so when compared to the Druzhba chainsaw.

Scheme for making a snowmobile from a Ural chainsaw with your own hands

Schemes for assembling a snowmobile from a Ural chainsaw: 1 – steering wheel; 2 – fuel tank (from the Druzhba chainsaw; 3 – power unit (from the Ural chainsaw); 4 – steering ski stand bushing (pipe with a diameter of 30-2 pcs.); 5 – steering ski (2 pcs.); 6 – caterpillar drive gear (nylon, sheet s15, 2 pcs.); 7 – caterpillar (from the Buran snowmobile, shortened); 8 – frame; 9 – support roller (from potato sorting, 18 pcs.); 10 – strut backrest limiter (pipe ½); 11 – caterpillar tensioner (2 pcs.); 12 – caterpillar tension gear (nylon, sheet s15, 2 pcs.); 13 – bearing No. 80204 in the housing (4 pcs.); 14 – trunk box, bottom plywood s4, sides board s20); 15 – seat (cover-plywood s4, foam rubber, leatherette); 16 – 1st stage of chain transmission; 17 – 2nd stage of chain transmission; 18 – seat backrest limiter (½ inch pipe); 19 – driven sprocket of the 1st chain drive (large sprocket of the creeper, intermediate shaft); z=38; 20 – drive sprocket of the 2nd stage of the chain drive (small creeper sprocket), z10; 21 – driven sprocket of the 2nd degree of chain transmission (drive sprocket of the track drive shaft), z18; 22 – drive sprocket of the 1st stage of the chain drive (gearbox output shaft sprocket), z12; 23 – steering knuckle lever; 24 – steering rod (2 pcs.); 25 – steering shaft with bipod; 26 – front axle beam (pipe with a diameter of 30); 27 – caterpillar drive shaft; 28 – tension axis of the caterpillar.

Without creating a diagram and drawing, it is unlikely that it will be possible to connect together the main units of the structure, such as:

  • Engine;
  • Transmission;
  • Skis and tracks.

To simplify the design process, you should take a caterpillar from the Buran all-terrain vehicle. If designed children's version, then skis will be enough.

Racks

Steering ski: 1 – runner (nylon, sheet s20, from a children’s snow scooter); 2 – spring (normally stretched, from the rear shock absorber of the moped); 3 – spring support; 4 – undercut (duralumin corner 20x20); 5 – spring cover (angle 35x35); 6 – fastening the spring to the cover (M8 bolt with washer); 7 – support lever (pipe 30x30); 8 – spring for fastening the rack-fork to the ski lever (steel, sheet s2); 9 – spring for attaching the support lever to the ski (steel, sheet s2); 10 – axles (M8 bolt, 2 pcs.); 11 – steering knuckle stand (bicycle steering stand with crown and part of the fork); 12 – steering bipod (steel, sheet s4); 13 – fastening of the steering bipod (type M16); 14 – fastening the spring bearing and the lever spring to the ski (M5 bolt with a countersunk head, 7 pcs.); 15 – lever bushing (steel pipe with a diameter of 30 mm); 16 – plain bearing (nylon bushing, 2 pcs.); 17 – stand bushing (steel pipe with a diameter of 30 mm). In the top view, parts 11, 12, 13 of the steering knuckle are not shown.

Snowmobile racks can be made from 3x3 cm corners. They are connected to each other by steel jumpers. As a result, there is a relatively small portal. To create a platform, you need to take a sheet 2 mm thick and connect it to the portal and the middle right side vehicle elements. This platform will serve as a mounting location for the chainsaw gearbox and the chain drive shaft.

On part of the rear portal and the middle of the snowmobile, a small space should be created for the seat structure.

The front part of the frame and the front axle crossmember are connected by means of a beam. The beam is an ordinary water pipe with a diameter of 1.5 cm. At the end of this pipe, steering ski bushings are attached by welding, and a stand is installed in the center. The stand will serve as a support for the engine subframe.

Particular attention should be paid to the mounting points of the racks. For greater reliability, the attachment points are reinforced with steel gussets, 2 mm thick. This approach will strengthen the vehicle and make it more reliable and durable.

Caterpillar

Snowmobile frame with track block: 1 – rear part of the spar (steel sheet s2, with flanges, 2 pcs.); 2 – tension device (4 pcs.); 3 – rear portal (corner 30x30); 4 – middle part of the spar (angle 50x63, 2 pcs.); 5 – bracket-fork for installing the axis of the road wheels (steel sheet s2, 10 pcs.); 6 – middle portal (corner 30x30); 7 – platform for mounting the power unit gearbox and the intermediate speed reducer shaft (steel sheet s2); 8 – scarves (steel sheet s2, 4 pcs.); 9 – front portal (corner 30x30); 10 – front component spar (steel sheet s2 with flanges); 11 – axis of tension gears; 12 – caterpillar tension gear (2 pcs.); 13 – axis of road wheels (steel, circle 10, 5 pcs.); 14 – axle fastening (M10 nut and spring washer, 20 pcs.); 15 – spacer bushing (duralumin pipe); 16 – roller (18 pcs.); 17 – bearing unit (4 pcs.); 18 – caterpillar drive gear (2 pcs.); 19 – caterpillar drive shaft; 20 – drive sprocket of the drive shaft (driven sprocket of the 2nd degree of chain transmission), z=18; 21 – steering knuckle bushing (pipe with a diameter of 30 mm, 2 pcs.); 22 – front axle beam (pipe with a diameter of 30 mm); 23 – scarves, 4 pcs.; 24 – engine stand (pipe with a diameter of 30 mm); 25 – roller tire (rubber ring, 18 pcs.).

To assemble a mini-version of the snowmobile, you can take the tracks from the old Buran and modify it, shortening it by almost a whole meter. Gears can be made from a sheet of nylon, 1.5 cm thick.

Drive shaft

Track drive shaft (tension shaft is the same, only position 4, replaced by position 1): 1 – left (along the direction) tip (steel, cylinder 22); 2 – shaft (steel pipe 0.28x20; 3 – flange for fastening the gear to the shaft (steel sheet s4, 2 pcs.); 4 – right (along the way) shaft tip (steel, cylinder 29); 5 – track drive gear (2 pcs.); 6 – frame spar, 2 pcs.); 7 – bearing housing cover (steel, 2 pcs.); 8 – bearing 80204 (2 pcs.); 9 – bearing housing (steel, 2 pcs.); 10 – drive shaft sprocket; 11 – fastening the sprocket to the shaft (M12 nut with wide and spring washers); 12 – key (steel 20); 13 – seal (felt, 2 pcs.); 14 – fastening the bearing housing to the spar (M6 bolt, with 4 sets of screwdriver); 15 – fastening the bearing housing to the spar (M6 bolt with spring washer, 4 sets).

The drive shaft is made of a steel pipe with a diameter of 1.4 cm. Special flanges are attached to the shaft, to which gears are attached. Trunnion tips are mounted at the end of the drive shaft by welding. The journals must have space for installing bearings.

Engine

This unit is considered the most critical mechanism of a snowmobile. Compared to other structural elements, such as a tire or chain, the engine must work properly and without it the snowmobile will not even move. Therefore, the long-term performance of the device will depend on the reliable and trouble-free operation of the engine. If you want to install an engine from an imported chainsaw, you can purchase a used Shtil.

Another important design element on which the trouble-free operation of a snowmobile depends is the gearbox.

Asterisks

Immediately noticeable is the fact that the right tip has a keyway for installing and securing the chain sprocket. This is the track shaft sprocket, which is securely fastened with a nut. To make fastening possible, a corresponding thread is cut on the tip.

The tip of the tension shaft has the same dimensions, and the fastening of the structural elements is carried out similarly to the fastening of the track shaft sprocket.

The first gear stage should have a sprocket with the highest gear ratio (number of teeth). The Ural chainsaw engine has 38 teeth.

Steering

On homemade device You can install a handlebar of any design, even from a bicycle. IN in this case, it is very important to put manual control of engine speed on the steering wheel. In order not to bother too much, it is better to use a steering wheel from a moped, scooter, etc., which already has a mechanism for controlling engine power. This will make the design more reliable and easier to manage.

Brake system

Typically, such a vehicle does not have brake system, and it is not necessary, since a snowmobile does not develop high speeds, especially a homemade one. Although, if you take this problem seriously, you can build a primitive braking device.

It’s worth immediately noting that a homemade design, no matter what it is, is unlikely to be registered (legalized) with the relevant authorities. And therefore:

  1. According to the law, a homemade snowmobile does not belong to the category of vehicles. Therefore, its further use, as well as responsibility for the consequences, rests solely with the person who made it. It is better if it is operated somewhere in the outback and does not come to the attention of the relevant services.
  2. A snowmobile and an amphibious all-terrain vehicle are completely different vehicles, although they have certain similarities.
  3. Since the engine has low power, it is not advisable to transport cargo with this vehicle. It's better to travel alone.
  4. To travel at night, you can install lighting (headlights) on your snowmobile. This will increase the functionality of the device and comfort when moving.

Conclusion

Because most people don't have the skills self-made any structures, they believe that assembling a snowmobile with their own hands is quite difficult. And even if you manage to build something similar to a snowmobile, it is unlikely to go, and even if it does go, it will stop very soon. And it won’t look like a snowmobile at all, but like a pile of spare parts assembled together. Fortunately, this is not the case, and with the right approach and level of imagination, you can assemble a similar structure from improvised means, which are a dime a dozen in any garage. And if you have at least some experience working with these spare and available materials, then the task is completely simplified. Here the principle of desire already begins to operate, and if it is not there, then it is unlikely that it will be possible to assemble anything at all, not to mention a snowmobile.

The fact that the problem is relevant in our time is not just a statement, but a belief based on the problems today. Unfortunately, the state does not meet the needs of broad layers of consumers, but has set a course for the production of only expensive equipment intended for sale to consumers with money.

Chainsaw - indispensable tool for logging. But in addition to cutting wood, it can become the basis for assembling a large number of homemade inventions, including a snowmobile.

Why from Friendship

The main advantages of the Druzhba chainsaw: simplicity of design, reliability and low cost. It was developed in 1953 and was produced until the early 2000s. Throughout the production of the saw, its design remained unchanged, but some components were modified.

Depending on the installed carburetor and ignition system, the MP-1 engine that was equipped with Druzhba develops from 2 to 4 hp.

The technical characteristics of the Ural chainsaw are higher than those of the Druzhba saw. It has a more powerful engine (5 hp), lighter weight (11.6 kg) and high productivity. But because high flow fuel and automatic chain lubrication systems in the manufacture of homemade devices, such a saw is used less frequently than Druzhba.

Without creating a diagram and drawing, it is unlikely that it will be possible to connect together the main units of the structure, such as:

  • Engine;
  • Transmission;
  • Skis and tracks.

To simplify the design process, you should take a caterpillar from the Buran all-terrain vehicle. If a children's version is being designed, then skis will be enough.

To create a platform, you need to take a sheet 2 mm thick and connect it to the portal and the middle of the right side of the vehicle elements.

A chainsaw is a device that is most popular among craftsmen. It can be used as a kind of universal drive in order to produce a walk-behind tractor with my own hands. This instrument perfectly combines important qualities:

1. Quite solid power;

2. Light weight;

3. Maximum compact dimensions.

Using a chainsaw, you can create and assemble winches, bicycles and other objects.

A chainsaw allows you to make a wide variety of interesting designs with your own hands. For general activities, you will need knowledge of drawing, design, and so on. These skills are important for subsequent high-quality assembly, summing up exact dimensions and just for a normalized workflow.

How to make a walk-behind tractor from a chainsaw with your own hands

Having small plots available, purchasing a walk-behind tractor for crazy money is, in fact, unjustified. In addition to the actual device, you have to regularly buy other necessary elements:

1. Spare parts;

2. Additional equipment;

3. Lubricants;

4. Combustible substances.

That is why, to ease financial waste, you should try to create a walk-behind tractor yourself from a chainsaw.

The immediate active process begins with the manufacture of the frame. It has the shape of a cube with corners of 32*32 millimeters. The main engine is attached to the transverse upper frame corners. The fuel tank is mounted slightly lower on brackets. The vertical uprights of the front plan accommodate intermediate shaft supports. In order to install running shaft bearings, it is necessary to connect specially designed supports to the longitudinal angles.

As a result of the entire process described above, an excellent walk-behind tractor with a center of gravity located above the wheel support surface is obtained. It is quite possible to use a metal weight on the front frame element. By using pipe crossbars with diameters of thirty millimeters, you can achieve excellent manual control. A rubberized roller can become a material for the direct manufacture of wheels.

The self-made walk-behind tractor uses two specialized sprockets. One of them plays a leading role, and the second affects the intermediate shaft.

DIY chainsaw walk-behind tractor

When creating a walk-behind tractor from a Druzhba brand chainsaw, you must use exclusively metalworking skills. In this case, turning work will not be needed. The normal speed limit of the device being created in first gear will be equal to 2.5 kilometers per hour. In this case, the engine power is four horsepower. For soil milling, the indicated indicators are quite sufficient.

In its essence, the structural component of the walk-behind tractor is as simple and accessible as possible. A collar flange RU-32 is carefully placed on the main shaft. It allows you to easily screw on bridge type gearboxes. It is quite possible to take it from the Uazovsky Bridge. There, the diameter of the element in question is approximately thirty millimeters. In order to increase the total distance from the ground to the gear axle, it is necessary to use a double-row chain together with two sprockets from a VAZ vehicle. Timing belt type stars allow you to increase the distance to the ground by a full fifteen centimeters.

Case-type bearings must be attached to the main axle. Direct bearings have an internal diameter of thirty millimeters. A moped motor from the Karpaty brand acts as a gearbox and gearbox. In this case, a standard centrifugal clutch is actively used. Chinese models of Delta mopeds are perfect for installation on a walk-behind tractor with their chains and sprockets.

A steel tube is mounted on a wheel axle or a milling cutter.

A fully completed work process will allow you to thoroughly enjoy the created masterpiece.

The main advantages of a self-assembled walk-behind tractor are:

1. Complete absence of lubricant requirements;

2. Complete absence of requirements for combustible materials;

3. Autonomous activity;

4. Use anywhere.

A chainsaw is a universal device. Homemade chainsaws can be a real salvation for the owner of a summer house or personal plot. To do this, you only need to have certain manual skills and some technical knowledge. Everything that can be made from a chainsaw can almost completely meet the needs of the average summer resident in auxiliary mechanisms for the most various works on the territory of your land. With your own hands, you can make a motor cultivator, a lawn mower, and a snow blower from a chainsaw. But the first thing you should make from it is a homemade walk-behind tractor.

Making a homemade walk-behind tractor

The first step is to make a walk-behind tractor from a chainsaw. The saw can act as a universal drive that combines small dimensions and weight with quite serious power. If you assemble a walk-behind tractor on its basis with your own hands, an attachment can be installed on it to perform a wide variety of agricultural work. To do this, you will need knowledge of disciplines such as design and drawing. If the dimensions are strictly observed, you can assemble homemade walk-behind tractor, which is not inferior in its characteristics and capabilities to its factory-assembled counterparts.

The cubic-shaped frame is welded from steel corners measuring 32 by 32 mm. The chainsaw engine is suspended from the inside of the transverse corners of the top, and a gasoline tank is attached underneath it with brackets. To the front vertical posts you need to weld the supports on which the intermediate shaft will rest. The same supports must be welded onto the longitudinal corners to secure the running shaft bearings. A crossbar for manual control is welded from an iron pipe with a diameter of 3 cm. You also need to install the drive sprocket and sprocket on the intermediate shaft, connected by a chain. All this can be taken from a moped or car. Rubber-coated rollers or wheels from a baby stroller are quite suitable as wheels. After this, a prefix for various purposes is attached to it.

Based on such a walk-behind tractor, you can make a simple motor-cultivator. Cultivating the soil at the dacha is rightfully considered the most tedious task, requiring time and effort. A chainsaw cultivator will reduce the time it takes to complete it and save energy. To do this, cutters are mounted on the sides of the walk-behind tractor. A constructive addition should be the presence of a reduction gearbox, where a V-belt drive is driven from the engine on one side, and on the other there is a chain to the drive shaft.

How to make a lawn mower out of a chainsaw

A unit such as a lawn mower can be considered second in importance after a walk-behind tractor, which can be made from a chainsaw with your own hands. And its importance increases as the area of the dacha plot grows. To make it, the steering wheel and tire are removed from the working chainsaw. Then a frame measuring 50 by 60 cm is welded from a steel corner 25 by 25 mm, to the corners of which wheels from an old baby stroller are attached. And from metal pipe the cart handle is bent to suit your height, which is bolted or welded to the frame. The engine gearbox is turned at a right angle so as to ensure that the shaft is at the bottom, and together with the engine it is attached to the frame, for which the hole through which the tire was attached is used.

The steering wheel is attached to the handle, the throttle cable and the gas supply hose are extended. After this, you can install the cutting knives. To do this, you need to weld a piece of steel pipe 8 cm long and 5 cm in diameter to the chainsaw sprocket. Put the same piece on it, but with a diameter of 5.8 cm, and connect them using bolts and locknuts, which should be located opposite each other. Welded to the second pipe iron disc 4 mm thick and 18 cm in diameter. 3 holes are drilled in it at equal distances through which the knives will be installed.

They are made from old linen hand saw on wood. Holes are made in sections of this fabric at equal distances from the edges, through which they are fastened to the disk with bolts and locknuts so that they rotate freely 360°. When colliding with hard objects in the grass, this will prevent them from breaking. A similar chainsaw lawn mower can easily mow not only tall grass, but also small shrubs. If necessary, the chainsaw can be easily removed, the removed parts can be returned to their place and used for its intended purpose.

Making a snow blower

In the vast majority of the country, every visit to a dacha in winter leads to an urgent need to at least partially clear the area of snow debris. This brings the question of how to make a snow blower to the forefront. It is best to make a rotary snow blower from a chainsaw. It takes a little longer and is more difficult to make, but in terms of effectiveness, all other varieties are inferior to it. Using a moving auger, it feeds a mass of snow onto a blade, which throws it to the side through a pipe. The design must be such that in the event of failure any of the parts can be easily replaced. The work is performed as follows:

  1. To begin with, a box is assembled from a metal sheet required sizes. A hole with a diameter of 160 mm is cut in it to connect the snow removal pipe.
  2. The screw shaft is made of a steel pipe, to which 2 steel blades measuring 100 by 140 mm must be welded. On both sides of them you need to screw 2 blades in the form of two-link spirals from sheet metal 2-3 mm thickness. This shaft must consist of 2 halves, for which the easiest way is to use a cut steel pipe. To attach this auger you will need bearings of the appropriate diameter.
  3. To protect the driving auger and electric motor, protective covers must be installed.
  4. The blades need to be placed in the hole of the outlet pipe, and the auger itself inside metal box. A sprocket from an old bicycle is quite suitable for connecting them.
  5. The snow blower is equipped with a chainsaw as an engine and mounted on a main supporting frame welded from steel corners.
  6. The chainsaw sprocket is connected by a chain to a gearbox, from which another chain drive goes to the auger shaft. To cover the mechanisms from snow, side screens are made of thick plywood or OSB with a thickness of at least 10 mm.

A chainsaw snow blower is best mounted on skids made from sections wooden beam which are attached to the sides. For better glide, you can make attachments from plastic boxes from electrical wiring. Such a device can greatly reduce the time required to clear paths in a snow-covered area, and even a woman or child can operate it.

Making a winch

It is quite possible to produce such useful device like a chainsaw winch. A support frame is welded from a steel angle, which has hooks and loops for fastening to a fixed base. A chainsaw motor is attached to it, which is connected to the gearbox. The gear shaft should be equipped with a pulley or cord belt to tension the cable, transmitting torque to the reel. Such a winch is capable of developing a force of up to one and a half tons, and with its help you can lift heavy objects or pull out a stuck car.

Conclusion

Homemade chainsaws are not limited to everything described above. Based on this simple and light tool you can make an engine for a snowmobile, motor boat or even a portable helicopter.

The main thing is that for this you do not need to make any global design changes to the chainsaw.

If necessary, by installing the removed parts, it can be returned to its previous functionality.

About a hundred people a week come to my blog from Yandex with the interesting request “Homemade chainsaws.” At first, I did not attach much importance to this request, until the number of visitors looking for these same homemade products began to grow. It is clear that I have discussed quite a lot of homemade products on my blog, but there is not a word about a chainsaw anywhere except in the article. But let’s skip the wisdom of search indexing and return to our topic.

I wondered, really, what can be made from a chainsaw? Not with the help of a chainsaw, but from it itself. If you think about it, the most useful part in a chainsaw is the engine. You need an engine to move something, yeah. This means that the very first homemade product is a means of transportation. A means of transportation can be:

A - land with more than one wheel, common types are moped, tarantas, all-terrain vehicle, snowmobile.

B - waterborne water vehicle in the form of various boats and ferries.

B - air vehicle. This type of vehicle is usually limited to paragliders and small aircraft models. True, there are stories on the Internet about one prisoner who made a helicopter out of a chainsaw and was even able to fly over the prison fence with it, but this is more suitable for the “MythBusters” program. You and I are prudent people and we don’t need unnecessary risks.

G - space vehicle - such homemade chainsaws are not represented in the open spaces for obvious reasons.

So, it seems we are done with vehicles. What else can you use the gasoline engine of our sawing tool for? Naturally, for a cutting tool such as a megabolt.

And I dare to assure you, this is not Photoshop. Moreover, the idea turned out to be so popular that chainsaw manufacturers themselves began to produce attachments that turned their tools into cutting machines.

But it would be hard to call a portable power station a tool. But if its ancestor was a chainsaw, which passed through the hands of our Russian “Kulibin”, then you can’t definitely answer whether it is a tool or not.

A chainsaw can be put to good use by turning it into a pump. Well, for example, the basement was flooded with the spring flood, the traffic jams were knocked out, there was no electricity. And then you take out your gas pump and in two minutes and three liters of gasoline you drain the basement.

Another homemade product (as it turned out, this is not a homemade product, but the brainchild of Knight’s Armament Company). By the way, it’s not domestic and looks like it played a lot of DOOM2 in childhood. So he left little of the chainsaw at all, but look what a nice little tool it turned out to be, even with a grenade launcher. In general, men will appreciate it. And thanks to our reader with a modest nickname oo for the clarification!

This “chainsaw” machine gun has only a name and a similar handle layout.
In general, this is a modification of the KAC Stoner 99 LMG. And there is no smell of “homemade” here - Knight’s Armament Company is a serious arms company, albeit a private one.
This model was presented at the SHOT Show 2009 (this is an exhibition of equipment and equipment for hunting and shooting sports, and firearms in general).

And the name “chainsaw” - Chainsaw - in this case also plays on the abbreviation SAW - Squad Automatic Weapon, found in the names of light machine guns (for example, M249)

As you can see, my dear reader, there are a great many homemade chainsaw products. But, unfortunately, I never found out what exactly you were looking for. Perhaps my review will give you an idea to clarify search query and you will find what you were looking for, even on another site. If my review is missing any of the homemade products, write about it in the comments and I will expand my review to the delight of all readers.

And for last I left one incredible homemade product. How can you use all the parameters of a chainsaw 100%? What kind of homemade product could be so great that it was given a name? Meet!

Tire sawmill Murka.

A snowmobile is a very necessary vehicle for residents of the northern latitudes of Russia. Road conditions do not always allow you to get close to, for example, a fishing spot or a remote village. Some people buy ready-made snowmobiles, while others make a homemade snowmobile. From a chainsaw you can take an engine, the power of which will be quite enough to move the entire structure on high speed. In addition, you can seat several people on it and put a couple of suitcases. How to make a homemade snowmobile with your own hands?

Saw selection

In fact, the brand of engine is not important for a device such as a snowmobile. Whether the unit is imported or domestic does not matter, the main thing is that it pulls well. Big difference Meanwhile, whether a homemade snowmobile will be made from a Shtil chainsaw or a Russian Ural is practically unknown.

How good should it be?

The most important element in this device is the engine. All other details, such as a chain or tire, do not play a significant role in the design of such a vehicle, so the main thing is to monitor and control the operation of the motor. If it is in good working order, the snowmobile will always be on the move. If you decide to take the engine from imported chainsaws, you don’t have to purchase a new device under warranty in the store. A used option is also quite suitable.

The only part in a chainsaw that must also be in working order along with the engine is the gearbox. It will also be useful to us in our work.

Making a Ural chainsaw: drawings

You should also take care of the diagrams. On paper you need to draw the location of such important components and assemblies, such as:

  1. Engine.
  2. Transmission.
  3. Skis.
  4. Caterpillar.

You don’t have to design the last part from scratch, but take an old one from the Buran snowmobile. The same goes for skis - tools from a children's snow scooter are quite suitable.

How to make a homemade snowmobile from a chainsaw?

First we make the frame. Here we will need several measuring 50 x 36 millimeters and two steel plates, each 2 mm thick. To add rigidity to the sheets, it is necessary to wrap the edges at an angle of 90 degrees. In each of the plates, make through holes. In the front it is needed under the drive track shaft, and in the rear it is needed under the axis of the guide tension gears. The latter devices must be mounted at both ends of the spar.

Weld several additional brackets from the bottom to the frame, maintaining equal intervals between their locations. Mount the axle of the track rollers into the grooves open on the bottom side. There should be a total of 18 rollers. They should be placed on 5 axes (in the center in a checkerboard pattern). Rollers can be made of nylon and “shod” with rubber tires. You can go more in a simple way and take it already finished part from a potato sorting machine.

The axis of the rollers can be borrowed from a potato digger. Their ends need to be released a little. This is done so that the axles can be sharpened and threads of 10 mm can be cut. When making a homemade snowmobile from a chainsaw, do not forget about the spacer bushings. They should be placed directly on the axes of the unit. It is best to take bushings made of duralumin pipe. Next, the axles are secured using fastening bolts or a locknut. Using the same principle, a homemade snowmobile is assembled from a Druzhba chainsaw.

Racks

At the next stage, it is necessary to weld 3 racks made of steel angle to the spar. Most the best option corners measuring 30 x 30 mm will serve. They also need to be connected with steel crossbars. This way the structure will form a small portal. Between the front part and the middle on the right side, make a platform - weld a 2 mm steel sheet. After this, place the chainsaw gearbox and the intermediate chain drive shaft here.

A box can be installed in the space between the rear portal and its middle part. For what? It will serve as a support for the seat, which must be welded there at the final stage.

The front part of the frame must connect to the front axle crossmember. As a beam, you can use a regular water pipe with a diameter of at least 30 mm.

Weld steering ski bushings to the ends of this pipe. Attach a stand in the middle of the beam that will serve as a motor subframe. All these parts also need to be made from pipe, and at the joints on the posts and beams, gussets from a 2 mm steel sheet should be additionally welded. This way the structure will become strong and, accordingly, reliable.

Caterpillar

Those who made homemade mini-snowmobiles from a chainsaw take the tracks from the old Buran. However, for it to function normally, it needs to be shortened slightly (by 500 mm) and sewn together with transport tape. make it from a 15 mm nylon sheet.

Drive shaft

It will be tubular type with a diameter of 28 mm. A round flange with holes for the gears should be put on it. Press and weld solid pin tips into the ends of the drive shaft. The latter must be machined for bearings.

It should be noted that the left tip should be slightly shorter than the right one. On the extension, make a keyway to fit the driven sprocket of the second stage of the chain drive. This part is also called the track drive shaft sprocket and is secured with a 14 mm nut. The appropriate thread must first be made on this part.

The dimensions of the tension shaft tips must be the same and fastened similarly to the drive devices.

About the engine

It is best to make a homemade snowmobile from a Ural or Druzhba chainsaw. Although the imported Shtil will also be suitable (though it costs the same as 5 of our domestic devices). So, how to make a homemade snowmobile? The power unit must be mounted on a sub-engine stand, on which the gas tank should then be placed. This entire structure is welded to the cross beam. As for the gearbox, it will be rotated 180° in the opposite direction and secured together with the “speed reducer” on the platform of the two-stage chain transmission. The latter represents the entire gearbox.

Asterisks

The driven star of the first transmission stage must have the largest number of teeth. On Ural chainsaw engines given value is exactly 38 pieces. The second stage drive sprocket has 10 teeth. The pitch of these devices is the same - 15.875 mm. By the way, the same pitch is installed on the Minsk motorcycle.

Steering

It will consist of steering support skis and be connected by rigid rods to the bipod of the steering shaft. The steering wheel itself can be taken from any Soviet motorcycle. The main thing is that it is 3-lever. Near the right handle, install a shifter - a small lever that performs the same functions as the gas pedal on a car.
It doesn’t matter whether you are making a homemade snowmobile from a Shtil or Ural chainsaw, there must be a shifter, as it is an integral part in the design of this device.

Brake system

It is not necessary to install it, since in most cases a homemade snowmobile made from a chainsaw does not develop high speeds and stops on its own. However, for safety, you can make brakes, but this will significantly complicate its design.

A real snowmobile is quite expensive and not everyone can afford it. Therefore, many craftsmen try to make the most of available materials and tools and collect real miracles of technology. An example of such a miracle is a chainsaw-based snowmobile. At first glance, the problem seems unsolvable, but if you look into it in more detail, you can easily make a snowmobile or snowmobile out of a chainsaw.

Principle, device diagram, theory, how everything should work out

All work begins with a plan and drawings, which can then be relied upon. Diagrams and drawings will be required in order to take into account all the components and their location, the relationship between each other and the operation of the mechanism as a whole. Pay close attention to the location of each unit, as if you make a mistake, the snowmobile simply will not move.

Work plan:

  1. First, the chainsaw motor is attached to the made frame.
  2. Skis are installed in the steering part of the snow scooter, which are the main element of movement.
  3. Then they are installed steering.
  4. To set the mechanism in motion, it is necessary to install tracks at the rear.
  5. Connect the track disk and the chainsaw motor sprocket.
  6. Finally, the driver’s seat is installed, which is mounted on a specially equipped place.

The main goal is to save money, so it is not necessary to buy all parts of the structure. You can do many of the details yourself. Craftsmen recommend using tracks and skis from the Soviet Buran snowmobile.

To equip the steering on a snowmobile, borrow the handlebars from a moped or bicycle. The main task will be to properly secure the steering wheel so that when you turn, the skis also turn.

Which chainsaw is suitable for these purposes?

In order to make your own snowmobile from a chainsaw, you will need, in fact, a saw. You can take any brand and model that is in stock. Craftsmen recommend using the Druzhba, Ural or Shtil saws, as they are most suitable in terms of technical characteristics and differ in the quality of their engines.

Friendship

The advantage is the simplicity of the design and therefore it is very convenient to disassemble. In addition, the tool does not have any unnecessary bells and whistles that modern saws can boast of and which only interfere with the assembly of the snowmobile. But there are also disadvantages - the Soviet saw is heavy and outdated.

Chainsaw Friendship

Its technical characteristics are as follows:

  • power – 1 kW;
  • weight - up to 12 kg;
  • engine (two-stroke);
  • tire length – 45 cm;
  • fuel (gasoline).

Ural

The excellent technical qualities of the professional are perfectly suited for creating a homemade snowmobile on its basis. The mechanism is powerful and efficient, and is also adapted for use in cold conditions.

Chainsaw Ural

Technical data

  • engine (gasoline, two-stroke, single-cylinder);
  • power – 3.68 kW;
  • weight – 11.7 kg;
  • parameters – 46 x 88 x 46 cm.

Calm

It also has sufficient characteristics to be used in homemade design snow scooter. The most important thing is that the chainsaw has enough power to start the snowmobile. In addition, the Shtilevsky engine is characterized by quiet operation, which will give additional comfort to movement.

What skills are needed?

You don’t need any special skills to assemble a homemade snowmobile, but you need to be able to work with welding and have welding machine desirable. To use the diagrams and drawings provided, it is advisable to be able to understand them.

Components

Particular attention should be paid to the constituent parts.

Engine– is the most important part of the mechanism and is selected with special attention. Its condition must not only be working, but it itself must be installed after Maintenance. The gearbox must also be in good condition.

Asterisks– elements for transmitting translational motion from the engine. You need to create a tip on the right that is longer than on the left.

The steering is suitable for a scooter, moped or bicycle. The most important thing is to connect the engine to the steering part correctly.

The brake system is not provided for in the presented diagrams, but it can be made. However, first think about whether it’s worth racking your brains over this, because motor sleighs do not develop high speeds.

Sprocket motor steering

Tools

In order to assemble a motor sleigh yourself you will need:

  • welding;
  • screwdrivers;
  • pliers;
  • pipes;
  • fasteners.

If the homemade product is planned for children, then you can use ordinary skis as the front control, and if you plan to transport more than 60 kg, then use the tracks from the Buran all-terrain vehicle.

Rack

For the rack, take several 3x3 cm corners and connect them to each other using metal fasteners. To create a platform, you need to attach a sheet of metal to the connected racks. This will be the place to install the gearbox and chain drive shaft.

Don't forget about the seat support. To do this, you need to take a steel module and weld it to the main frame. The module does not have to be large.

Using a beam, connect the front of the frame and the front axle. For these purposes, you can adapt a standard water pipe, which has a radius of at least 1.5 cm. It is clear that this should not be a metal-plastic pipe, but a metal one. Weld the steering wheel bushing at the end, and attach the stand in the middle. This stand will play the role of a subframe for the engine.

Be sure to attach small stiffening ribs in the form of gussets in the places where the racks are attached. This is necessary to strengthen the structure and provide it with a longer service life.

A pipe with a radius of 1.4 cm is used as a drive shaft. A flange with prepared holes for the teeth of the drive wheels is attached to it. At the end of the drive you need to weld trunnion tips.

  1. Law on vehicles does not classify homemade products as transport, so you need to know the rules of the road because of your own consciousness, and also adhere to them for the same reason. On public roads where he drives a large number of Cars are not allowed to leave.
  2. Do not confuse self-propelled vehicles with snowmobiles. The principle of operation is almost the same, but the snowmobiles differ somewhat in the specifics of their assembly.
  3. You should not hope that the resulting snowmobile will be able to drag loads. Although the power of the chainsaw is high, it will not help with transportation.
  4. It is advisable to install headlights, because in the dark this will be the key to your safety.
