A heating system with natural circulation of coolant is a classic, which has several disadvantages. Firstly, the low speed of coolant movement, which reduces its temperature in the return circuit. Secondly, uneven distribution of hot water across the radiators. All this reduces the overall heating efficiency.

There is one solution to this problem - install a circulation pump. But which one? Almost all experts agree on one opinion: today you cannot find a better pump than the Grundfos UPS pump.

history of the company

Story Grundfos company starts from 1945. Danish engineer Paul Du Jensen organized small production under the name "Bjerringbro Pressestoberi og Maskinfabrik", which translated meant: press casting and machining factory in Bjerringbro.

Initially, the engineer was engaged in the development and production of pumping equipment only. Quality and a non-standard approach to solving many problems related to the design and size of devices have made the company's products very popular. Production grew, there were more and more consumers.

Until 1967, the Dane renamed his company several times. And only this year the name Grundfos appeared, which still exists.

According to world statistics, pumps from this company account for 50% of global consumption. Why? Quality has already been mentioned. But there is another reason - the company has turned into an international concern. Factories, factories, and small assembly shops are scattered all over the world. Russia was no exception. A representative office was established in Moscow in 1992, which grew into a subsidiary with the opening of a plant near the city of Istra.

Types of devices

The company currently offers two types:

  1. With dry rotor.
  2. With wet rotor.

With dry rotor

It should immediately be noted that this type of pumping equipment has a high coefficient useful action. Plus it has a lot of power. For such species it is necessary a large number of coolant, so devices of this type are used either on manufacturing enterprises, or in the heating system of large buildings. They are rarely used in private housing construction (a huge house in the form of a palace with a separate boiler room).

The design feature is a rotor that does not come into contact with water, hence the name. It is separated from the chamber where the coolant moves by a cuff.

The Grundfos dry-type circulation pump is very noisy; it is equipped with a special fan that maintains the required temperature of the unit body.

With wet rotor

For heating systems in private houses best option– Grundfos UPS pump. Let's start with the abbreviation: UP stands for circulation pump category, S stands for three-speed switching system. That is, this circulation pump can operate in three speed modes, which are switched either manually or automatically.

Compared to the previous type, a pump with a wet rotor has a low efficiency of 50%. But it works silently. The only condition for high-quality operation is high quality coolant. If this condition is met, the device will work for up to 10 years guaranteed.

Experts recommend installing a Grundfos circulation pump with automation into the home heating system. Firstly, you can set the operating mode for several days. Secondly, such a unit consumes less electricity. Thirdly, there is a complete lack of maintenance process. I set the settings and no longer need to approach the equipment.

Technical characteristics overview

To parse specifications device, you need to consider one of its models, for example, Grundfos UPS 25-40. This is one of the most popular products used for heating systems in country houses.

The numbers in the marking indicate that this device has pipes with a diameter of 25 mm and a pressure of 40 dm or 4 m. For one-story house(dacha, cottage) is the best option.

If a single-pipe system is used, then such a circulation pump will handle a two-story house.

Options

Now additional technical specifications:

  • when switching speeds, the output power of the pump will be as follows: 25-35-45 W;
  • volume of pumped coolant - 3.5 m³/h;
  • the length of the device between the ends of the pipes is 18 cm;
  • product weight - 2.6 kg;
  • mains power supply voltage 220-230 volts.

The pump body is made of cast iron, the motor is made of aluminum. The impeller and bearings are ceramic, the rotor is solid steel. All these materials are specially selected in this way. They have increased strength and can withstand high-temperature coolants well. This is especially true for bearings. Ceramic bearings can withstand harsh operating conditions for 10 years, plus ceramics help reduce noise during rotor rotation.

Currently, the manufacturer offers circulation pumps with a technopolymer impeller and a ceramic rotor. This innovation increases the efficiency of the device and its service life. This must be taken into account when purchasing if you want to have a high-quality unit in your heating system.

What should you pay attention to?

The manufacturer has already taken care that in the process self-installation House master I did not mix up the direction of installation of the pipes. There is an arrow on the pump body showing the rotation of the rotor and, accordingly, the movement of the coolant.

Please note that the package does not include mounting hardware. So you will have to take care of purchasing them first. It is recommended to wait a day after installing the circulation device and then start it up. This is due to the fact that the circulation pump itself should only operate at positive indoor temperatures. And if the product was stored or transported in the cold, then it quick installation and startup may cause damage.

Network connection alternating current It is better to carry it out in the form of a separate cable from the distribution panel. For Grundfos models UPS 25-40 is suitable for a three-core copper cable with a cross-section of one core of 0.75 mm².

Review of other models

Grundfos offers two more models:

  1. Magna.
  2. Alpha.

Magna

The peculiarity of the model is that it can be used for heating, hot water supply, and air conditioning systems. The device is equipped with a control unit that monitors temperature conditions and the pressure inside the heating system. Pumps low power Can be installed on heated floors.

Alpha

This is an innovative solution that allows you to move away from solving problems associated not only with manual configuration, but also with automatic ones. So to speak, this is a “smart pump”. The pump installed in the heating system of the house decides on the basis of which mode it will operate. And be sure that he will choose the best option. And this is an even distribution of heat throughout all rooms, plus good savings in fuel and electricity.

If for some reason changes occur in the heating, the device itself adapts to them. In this case, you can set the pump certain mode settings. For example, reduce fuel consumption at night or during periods of time when no one is in the house. Plus, a unit is installed in the electricity supply system, which is responsible for converting the frequency of the current.

Installation Features

The Grundfos circulation pump is mounted only on a horizontal pipeline. This is how its efficient and correct operation is ensured. Units with a wet rotor must be installed on the supply circuit, and with a dry rotor - only on the return circuit. The thing is that a pump with a dry rotor contains rubber and paronite seals, cuffs and gaskets. Under the influence high temperatures they quickly fail.

A coarse filter must be installed in front of the unit. This small and inexpensive device will extend the life of the pump itself. Units with any type of rotor can be installed in open or closed systems heating.

If there are problems with the electricity supply in a country village, then it is best to install the circulation pump on the bypass. Coolant passes through Grundfos devices with difficulty; the gap between the impeller and the pump body is too small.

And one last thing. When choosing a pump for your own home, you must first pay attention to its characteristics. Particular attention is paid to the pressure, which determines whether the coolant will rise to the required floor or not. If the heating circuit in the house is one-pipe, then this indicator will be less; if it is two-pipe, then you will have to purchase a device with a higher indicator.

Every year winter becomes warmer and less predictable. The absolute record was recorded in the 2017-2018 season. Meteorological specialists from the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Institute of Global Climate and Ecology" recorded anomalously warm values temperatures for winter and spring for a number of regions of Russia. “Well, at least we’ll save on gas,” some will say. Others will object. - Forecasting the weather is a thankless task, and for real savings other measures are needed. - And they will be right.

Strictly speaking, modern technologies have long been able to effectively insulate any home. In addition to comfort, this also means significant savings in heat and energy resources. But in addition to the external and internal thermal insulation of your home, you should not forget about the heating system. Even if it is designed correctly and does not cause any complaints, it can always be made more economical.

A caveat should be made here. There are houses different types and sizes, and they can be heated in different ways. In small buildings, a system with natural coolant circulation is most often used. Pure physics and nothing more. Heated in gas boiler the water rises to the top, and when it has been used and cooled down, it falls under the influence of gravity. But such a system is unlikely to be effective for medium and large buildings. The circulation of water in the system occurs slowly, which means that there may be problems with heating the radiators, or even completely, there is a risk of pipes freezing in unheated places.

An alternative to natural, in this case, is forced circulation of water. In this case, pumps are used that are installed in heating systems. Namely, in the return pipe (the so-called “return”) which goes from the radiators to your boiler. Forced circulation ensures constant and uniform heat transfer in all areas of the house.

In order not to make a mistake when choosing a pump for your heating system, you need to know many parameters. But the main ones are two: how much thermal energy does the house need, and what are the hydraulic resistance indicators? For ordinary person it's all complicated. And in order not to make a mistake, it is better to trust professionals who will select the optimal equipment model.

In Russia it's quite big choice pumps, both with “wet” and “dry” rotors. However, not all of them are applicable in engineering systems private houses. Pumps with a dry rotor have high efficiency (up to 80%), but are very noisy. As for units with a “wet” rotor, they are the opposite: they are very compact, can be mounted in any heating systems, are practically silent, and therefore are so loved by the owners of private houses. Pumps are called “wet” because the rotor is in water and cooled there. The liquid acts as a lubricant for the mechanism. The device is mounted in a horizontal shaft position so that there is always water in the housing.

Grundfos pumps

Being the undisputed technological leader in the pumping equipment market, GRUNDFOS (Russia) is pleased to offer its customers a large selection of models. The range includes both adjustable and unregulated pumps. This is, for example, a compact UPS with a “wet” rotor and asynchronous motor, which has three speed control modes. Switching occurs manually using a special lever on the body. If the rotor becomes sour due to prolonged inactivity, the pump shaft can be rotated manually.

When it comes to adjustable pumps, GRUNDFOS offers a whole family of devices from the ALPHA series. Each of them at correct operation will last long years and will not cause unnecessary trouble. These models, according to the degree of increase in functionality, can be arranged as follows: , and ALPHA3.

This series of pumps has wider capabilities than UPS. They implement the ability to automatically adjust the shaft rotation speed, which allows them to be used as part of heating systems with high degree automation. Like all GRUNDFOS circulation pumps, the ALPHA1 L is characterized by very high energy efficiency, with an EEI coefficient of less than 0.23. This means very high efficiency. "L" in the index means limited functionality. Take a look at the list of pump capabilities - it is more than impressive, there are 6 modes in total. But GRUNDFOS calls this “limited functionality” for a reason, because the range includes models with even more diverse capabilities.

ALPHA2 AND ALPHA3

Now these pumps are completely identical in functionality. This happened after it became possible to independently carry out hydraulic balancing of the heating system, which was previously only available in ALPHA3. This is very convenient solution, earning the informal nickname “Cure for the Cold.”

For hydraulic balancing you will need an ALPHA Reader, which is installed on the electronic unit. It must be purchased separately and is not included in the package. APLHA Reader transmits information from the pump to a smartphone or iPad. You will also need free application GRUNDFOS Go Balance, which needs to be installed on the gadget. The further procedure is carried out under the guidance of the application, which will provide detailed instructions for each stage of hydraulic balancing of the entire system. The ALPHA2 and ALPHA3 pumps allow you to measure the coolant flow in any heating system (warm floor, two or single pipe systems, dead-end, radiator network without thermal heads or with a constant flow) on all radiators and underfloor heating circuits in real time. This allows you to reduce to zero possible errors, which cannot be avoided even with the most careful theoretical calculations.

However, ALPHA2 and ALPHA3 are interesting not only because of the possibility self-balancing. These are modern multifunctional units that perform excellent work in different conditions. They have three fixed speed modes, three constant pressure drop modes and three proportional control modes - such a wide choice opens up the possibility of fine-tuning the system, the pump becomes universal. There are two more important additional functions: “night saving mode” and “summer mode”. In Denmark, where these pumps were developed, they are in great demand. Firstly, heating rooms that are unoccupied at night is simply irrational. Secondly, there is a question of compatibility. The pumps are suitable for use with modern boilers, where a similar regime is present. Pragmatic Danes know a lot about saving, they have heating in general expensive pleasure. Therefore, burning gas, wood or coal in vain is an unaffordable luxury.

Concerning " summer mode" is a seasonal function. It allows you to start heating in the fall without unnecessary problems. For example, souring of the pump shaft during a long period of inactivity. In fact, starting the system yourself several times during the summer is a real hassle. “Summer mode” will maintain the system’s functionality independently.

GRUNDFOS ALPHA2 was the first pump to feature the AUTOADAPT mode - naturally, ALPHA3 also “inherited” it. This is a new product from the company’s engineers, who pay great attention, first of all, to ease of use, and of course, energy efficiency. The function became a real breakthrough and a kind of standard for subsequent generations of circulation pumps. The AUTOADAPT mode makes it possible to automatically change equipment settings when the needs of people living in the house change, or, for example. Changes of seasons. Using complex software algorithms, the equipment electronics constantly analyzes the processes and, depending on the indicators, selects the optimal pressure. This significantly saves heating system resources and consumer money.

By purchasing GRUNDFOS pumps, the consumer receives a very high-quality device made to the highest European quality standards. That is why the manufacturer provides a warranty of 2 to 5 years for various equipment models.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the engines. Do you know many manufacturers of pumps in which the rotor shaft and bearing are made of ceramics? Most likely not, since in most models from GRUNDFOS competitors the shaft is made of steel and the bearing is made of graphite. It is common knowledge that hot water heats the iron and expands it. Over time, such a bearing wears out and scale and other debris get into the gap formed between the shaft and the bearing. Sooner or later this leads to breakdown. In the case of ceramics this is almost impossible.

In addition, the ALPHA series pumps use a four-pole synchronous motor with permanent magnets and a frequency converter. Permanent magnet rotors provide greater efficiency over a wide range of loads. The GRUNDFOS company values its customers and is ready to provide any assistance at any time. The “Service in 24 hours” program is presented in all cities of Russia where the company has representative offices. The user of GRUNDFOS pumping equipment can always call " hotline» and get an answer to any question you may have or call specialists to resolve

Pump ALPHA2 is the most economical pump in the world, with a record energy efficiency index (EEI) for this type of equipment - 0.15 (according to TÜV research)

Removing air

To remove air from the pump when it is put into operation, it is necessary to set the high (III) fixed speed mode for a short period of time. After this procedure, it is possible to set the required operating mode.

Increased starting torque

The pump will start without problems even after long downtime in a few months

If the summer mode function was not turned on before the summer season, lime deposits could potentially block the pump. ALPHA3 begins to vibrate during startup, trying to spin the rotor with an increased starting torque of up to 27 N*m, thereby destroying any dirt deposits.

Summer mode function

The function protects the pump and the heating system as a whole from souring

IN heating systems that have not been in use for several months, limescale deposits will often form, potentially preventing the pump and system from starting properly before being prepared for use. heating season. Summer mode function turned on just before the start summer season, protects the pump rotor and the heating system as a whole from “souring”. Once a day, the pump will start and run at minimum speed for two minutes, which is enough to protect the rotor and the system. At the same time, electricity consumption is reduced to an almost absolute minimum.

Dry running protection

Built-in dry-running protection algorithm provides unrivaled protection and durability ALPHA3

Built-in dry-running protection with automatic restart helps prevent premature pump failure. The protection algorithm is a “thinking” mechanism that is able to determine the cause of dry running: a fluid leak in the system, an air lock, or a closed shut-off valves in front of the pump. Thanks to dry-running protection life cycle ALPHA3 is significantly increased.

Cataphoretic coating of the hydraulic part

The special coating of the hydraulic part of the ALPHA2 pump serves to effective fight with metal corrosion from the inside - in the case of using poorly prepared water as a coolant; and outside - in the case of using a pump in air conditioning systems, when on the pump body due to low temperatures coolant, condensation forms on the pump body.

The cataphoresis coating also improves the hydraulic efficiency of the ALPHA2 pump.

Thermal insulating casing

Now heat losses through the pump housing will be smaller using a heat-insulating casing, which leads to a reduction in energy costs when operating your heating system. In addition, the chances of getting burned on the pump body are close to zero.

Operating modes

Constant differential pressure mode

This mode is used in those systems where the coolant flow varies over time, and the pressure drop value must remain constant. A striking example of such systems is the collector distribution of heated floor circuits (see figure)

Proportional differential pressure control mode

This mode is used in those systems where, with a time-varying coolant flow rate, it is permissible to change the pressure drop in order to reduce energy costs. An excellent example is a two-pipe heating system for a private house using thermostatic valves (see figure).

Fixed speed mode

This mode is provided for those systems where it is necessary to operate the pump at a fixed speed. For example, for installation on boiler loading. And also for those systems where the operating point does not fall within the characteristics of the AUTO Adapt function. An example is a single-pipe heating system for a private house without thermostatic valves (see figure)

Note. This mode also serves to remove air when starting the pump.

NIGHT MODE

The ALPHA2 pump automatically switches to night mode when a temperature drop in the pressure pipe of more than 10–15°C is detected over a period of approximately 2 hours. The temperature drop rate must be at least 0.1 °C/min. The transition to normal operation occurs as soon as the temperature in the pressure pipe increases by approximately 10°C.

IMPORTANT: the pump must be installed in the supply line!

AUTO ADAPT

This mode meets the needs of 80% of circulation systems in private homes.

PLUG IT IN AND GO AWAY

At Grundfos we believe in making the complex simple and innovative technologies intuitive.

AUTO function ADAPT reflects this philosophy. It extends the benefits of electronic pump control and even makes installation easier. A pump with the AUTOadapt function constantly analyzes the system in which it is installed, and as the coolant flow changes, it adapts to it.

WHAT IS AUTO ADAPT?

Developed and patented by Grundfos, AUTO technology ADAPT serves several purposes:

  • Improving the engine speed control function;
  • Self-check by the pump for its compliance with the system;
  • Achieving ideal comfort with minimum costs energy.

NEW BENEFITS

AUTO function ADAPT ALPHA2 is the second generation of well-known and established technologies that are familiar to our customers from the MAGNA series. Setting AUTO ADAPT - perfect choice for more than 80% of systems.

Second generation of AUTO function ADAPT for ALPHA2 has two significant improvements:

  • It does not need to reach the maximum pump performance curve to adapt to the heating system requirements;
  • It allows the pump to adjust its performance curve either up or down.

ELECTRONIC CONTROL

Grundfos pumps with electronically controlled(E-pumps) are capable of “intelligent” performance control. We have integrated a frequency converter to automatically adjust the motor speed so that the pump creates the required pressure in the system.

“Proportional pressure function” - implies maintaining pressure depending on the supply. The pressure decreases in proportion to the decrease in supply until, at zero supply, a pressure value equal to 50% of the set value is reached.

Avoiding permanent job at one speed, Grundfos smart pumps operate according to a proportional pressure curve. This makes them much more efficient than standard three-speed pumps.

SPEED CONTROL RESPONDS TO CHANGING CONDITIONS

The heating needs of different rooms consist of several factors. They include outside temperature, level sunlight, the use of electrical appliances and other heat sources.

Pump equipped frequency regulation, automatically adjusts performance to meet changing needs. This allows you to match your thermostat settings while using minimal energy.

STANDARD PUMP - UNJUSTIFIED COSTS

The standard three-speed pump operates at a fixed speed all the time, regardless of the actual heating demand. This represents unjustified actions, such as driving a car without releasing the gas pedal.

This means that the pump creates pressure even when it is not required, which causes noise in the system and wasted energy.

E-PUMP - MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE

The "smart" E-pump from Grundfos does not create overpressure. Continuing the comparison with a car, the E-pump reduces the gas supply to slow down, and this happens whenever it can slow down on its own, without additional effort.

Result? Significant reduction in energy consumption. Pumps with electronic control and a low EEI energy efficiency index provide savings of up to 80% compared to conventional pumps (class D). Under normal circumstances, it takes about two years for the end user to recoup the initial additional cost of purchasing a new pump. Combined with Grundfos' reputation, quality and reliability, this means cost savings for many years to come.

HOW IT WORKS?

ALPHA2 with AUTO function ADAPT selects the minimum possible pressure that meets the requirements of the system. It will constantly find an operating point that provides an optimal level of comfort with minimal energy consumption.

FACTORY SETTINGS

Setting AUTO ADAPT on ALPHA2 it starts at the factory from a given operating point along a reference curve. This proportional pressure curve is located in the center of the AUTO control area ADAPT .

The pump begins to analyze the heating circuit from the set operating point. If the current operating point deviates from the set one over time, the pump automatically adjusts the corresponding output.

In other words, if the heating system demand exceeds the set operating point, the pump will select an increased proportional pressure curve. If the requirements are lower, the lower curve will be selected.

NEW SETTINGS

When the proportional pressure curve settings are changed to adapt to the heating system requirements, AUTO ADAPT automatically sets a new reference operating point. With new settings the process starts again: AUTO ADAPT will constantly adapt to changes in the heating scheme.

INSTALLERS AND CONSUMERS

As a result of several studies, it turned out that most installers never specify specific parameters and do not produce hydraulic calculation those heating systems in which they install pump equipment. Consequently, it is difficult for them to select a suitable pump designed to work in a specific system, install it and configure it correctly.

With ALPHA2 the installer after completing the installation and selecting the AUTO function ADAPT, can walk away confident that the pump will adapt to the system and automatically select the optimal settings.

Heating consumers are looking for savings on utility and electricity bills, reliability and longevity of equipment - ALPHA2 meets and exceeds these requirements, maintaining a balance between energy efficiency and optimal levels of comfort.

One of the most attractive characteristics that they have circulation pumpsprice. Pumps in this series are designed specifically to regulate the operation of heating systems. The circulation pump is no less in demand Grundfos (grundfos), fully controlled by one key. Buy circulation You can purchase pumps of this series in our company.
