Sew curtains for your dacha with your own hands. Curtains for the garden (44 photos) in country and Mediterranean style

Country curtains are a step towards eternal traditions, allowing you to take a break from the constant race for popular trends.

Simple curtains made from natural materials create the atmosphere of the desired idyll in the room, even if the apartment is located in the very center of a noisy city.

Country-themed curtains are designed to give their owners a feeling home comfort and comfort.

This is a simple way to look at modern life from a different perspective and enjoy folk traditions that are passed down from generation to generation.

Textiles play an important role: it is thanks to it that a holistic and harmonious interior is created in rustic style.

Such curtains can hardly be called curtains in the usual sense of the word. They are airy and often decorated with bright, expressive patterns.

Rustic style curtains attract with their laconicism and naturalness. They exude wonderful landscapes, where the warm rays of the sun touch the lush grass. The feeling of unity with nature fills the rooms with special positive energy.

Short curtains combined with tulle

Nowadays you can still see windows here and there that are half curtained. The open upper part allows gentle sun rays into the house, and the lower part hides the room from prying eyes.

A fishing line or wire is stretched across the window. A slightly assembled curtain is placed on it.

Rustic short curtains look harmonious with light tulle and lace stripes at the top of the window opening.

In the old days, curtains were decorated with my own hands using embroidery and knitted details. Such decorations coped with their task, making the room much more comfortable. Short curtains look great in the interior of a kitchen or veranda.

Short curtains combined with a lambrequin

Connoisseurs of rustic style often choose practical curtains to the windowsill. In the upper part they must necessarily contain a simple or tie-down lambrequin.

In place of the luxury and severity characteristic of many curtains modern styles, V in this case airiness and natural simplicity comes.

Lush lambrequins that seem weightless give the curtains a touch of charming carefreeness. A similar rustic curtain design can be used in the kitchen.

Long curtains

Long curtains in a rustic style are not as common as their short “relatives”, but they have a right to exist. They are usually used to decorate windows in a living room or nursery. In hot summers they bring coolness to the room, and on windy days they bring warmth.

Long curtains are ideal for those cases when there are flower pots or vases.

Which fabric is better?

It is better to sew country curtains from natural fabrics. Which one is better to choose?

  • Linen curtains for small country windows are incredibly practical and beautiful. Their only drawback is their high price.
  • Durable and easy to use, chintz curtains are easy to wash, but can lose their brightness from prolonged exposure to the sun. Products made from this material should not be washed in too hot water, as they tend to become shorter. Inexpensive chintz is preferred by lovers of bright colors and variegated patterns.
  • Satin is a fabric made from twisted cotton threads that looks like silk. The dense and slightly shiny material has a significant advantage - it almost does not wrinkle.
  • Taffeta curtains are no less beautiful. Delicate, thin fabric white makes curtains truly elegant and light.

Color and ornament

If the material for curtains can be varied, then with the motives of the drawings not everything is so simple. The photos of rustic curtains are dominated by patterns depicting plants and animals, chickens, village houses and garden fruits. Checkered and striped curtains are very popular.

Allowed to combine bright colors, among which preference is given to yellow, red, green and blue tones. White and cream curtains should be decorated with patterns. A tablecloth or napkins made of the same material will harmoniously complement the overall picture.

The play of colors on the window improves your mood and provides positive emotions. Bright curtains with a motley pattern exude a sincere rustic fun, which is often lacking in modern people.

Patchwork in curtain design

Complex styles are not used when making rustic curtains. You should also forget about flashy accessories.

In this case, the emphasis on the curtains can be made more in an original way, using the currently popular patchwork technique, that is, creating curtains from multi-colored pieces of fabric.

This mosaic will effectively highlight rustic curtains in the interior.

Rustic style: popular trends

Rural style is a rather multifaceted phenomenon. A lot of directions are united by similarities with village housing. Which one exactly? It can be either a Russian hut or an American ranch. Everyone chooses the style that is closest to them.

American country style involves the use of striped and checkered curtains. In the southwestern "branch" the use of Indian motifs and patchwork is allowed.

In English country style, off-white curtains are common, sometimes with a pattern.

In french style The emphasis is on light fabrics and pastel colors.

Scandinavian style allows the use of light curtains decorated with ruffles. Soft tones are a priority, small patterns are possible.

Curtains in a traditional rustic style are a great opportunity to hide from the bustle of the city in your own cozy corner and rest your soul. Country curtains are the comfort, lightness and simplicity that every person needs.

Photos of curtains in a rustic style

On the eve of warm days and holidays, more and more city residents are moving to their summer cottages and country houses to be closer to nature. And many of them spend a lot of time not only organizing life at the dacha, but also the interior. Today we will tell you about curtains for the dacha, what they are like and how you can make them yourself in one style or another for the kitchen and other rooms.

Naturally, curtains in a dacha should look beautiful and match the style of the room. But there are also a number additional requirements for country curtains:

Creating a rural atmosphere

Nowadays you can buy country curtains in textile stores in any color scheme, style and from different fabrics. But many housewives want to be original and prefer to sew them with their own hands. The most popular style of window textiles around the world is rustic. But even it has several types.

Russian villagers

To embody Russian rustic style, you need to take a simple natural fabric, for example:

  • cotton;
  • chintz.

You can take either a characteristic Russian pattern or a plain fabric with small ornaments. An option is curtains made using patchwork.

To sew country curtains from scraps with your own hands, you must first measure the windows, determine the parameters of the curtain panels and make patterns. It's best to choose large elements so that the curtains are not very heavy due to the large number of seams. Patchwork involves the use of geometric shapes - squares or triangles; light and dark details are perfectly combined.

From thick cardboard, you need to cut out parts without seam allowances and number them so as not to get confused when connecting. Attach the patterns to the wrong side of the fabric and trace along the outline with chalk or a marker. Each part must be cut taking into account seam allowances of about 0.5 cm. And so that the seam is on the inside, the parts are connected by placing them facing each other. Do the seams manually or on a machine, and then be sure to iron them. To hide the back of the curtain, you will need a spacer. The edges can be decorated with ribbons, braid or lace.

Curtains in the Russian style are suitable for windows and doors in the kitchen and even in the bedroom.

French (Provence)

The rustic style in French is also called Provençal after the name of one of the provinces. To create it in the country using curtains, you can take chintz, cambric or linen.

In addition to a sewing machine and textiles, you will need:

  • threads and satin ribbons to match the fabric;
  • paper for patterns;
  • measuring tape;
  • chalk;
  • sharp scissors;
  • pins.

In order to take into account possible errors, textiles for work should be purchased with a margin of up to 15 percent. The minimum width of the fabric should be 3 meters. Before work, you should measure the window and adjust the dimensions taking into account the measurements.

If you want to make your own cottage in a Provençal style, you will need two parts with a transverse stripe. Each half should be 80 cm long in width, and up to 20 cm along the transverse strip.

Work should begin with a pattern:

To keep the curtains open, you need to provide tiebacks; they can be made from pieces of remaining fabric in the form of flowers, ribbons or cords.

American (country)

American country style is also very popular all over the world. To sew curtains for the kitchen in this style, you need to choose natural textiles in the following shades:

  • with a cell;
  • with floral designs;
  • dim.

But the use of synthetic fabrics that imitate natural ones is also allowed. They are good at the dacha because they do not fade, do not fade, do not wrinkle and do not shrink.

To calculate the material, take all measurements. To determine the length of the curtains, you need to measure the distance from the cornice to the window sill or the bottom of the radiator. To the resulting figure, add 6 cm from the bottom for the hem and 3 cm from the top for the hem. To determine the width, double the length of the cornice.

The simplest pattern is in the form of rectangular canvases. You should cut the fabric, and in order to avoid using pins, you can set the machine to a long stitch mode for basting hems. You need to sew a braid to the folded edge at the top, then finish the seams on the sides. Tuck the edges of the braid into the seam and leave the ends of the cords. If you pull them, you can adjust the degree of drape of the product. Now process the bottom of them onto the cornice. This will be an excellent solution for a country kitchen.

Mediterranean style curtains

In addition to the village suitable style For country houses can be called Mediterranean. Its distinctive features:

To embody this style in sewing curtains for country house, you need to prepare:

  • textile;
  • scissors;
  • tape measure or measuring tape;
  • needles and pins;
  • threads;
  • sewing machine

In order to sew curtains in this style for a country kitchen, you need to make preliminary measurements. The basis is a model based on two canvases with tiebacks.

Place the fabric on the window, check the location of the pattern and evaluate appearance against the background of the interior. Then measure the window width and add the same amount for the fabric. If the window width is 2 meters, then 4 meters of material will be required.

Determine the length by measuring from the attachment point of the top edge of the curtain to the level of the desired length. When calculating the fabric parameters, add about 20 cm for seams, hems, and the part of the fabric that will be attached to the cornice. It is better to cut fabric on the floor or a large table. If curtains are made from two fabrics, then the fabric is taken twice as wide and carefully divided in two.

Make folds along all sides (except for the top edge) and secure with pins. Sew all the bastings so that the canvas has a neat appearance. Fold the top edge to the wrong side, fix it and also stitch it, and on the outside the seams can be covered with braid. The hem at the top is used for fastening. Then make grabs from scrap materials.

Other interior solutions for the garden

Using an arched curtain, you can decorate a window opening in the kitchen and other rooms of the house. It will look very attractive. You can make such an arch from a single piece of fabric. It should be large enough so that the ends hang down to the windowsill or below.

There are two ways to create an arc shape:

  • Cut an arc at the bottom of the canvas. The edge of the arch is finished with bias tape and can be decorated with ruffles. At the top the arch is laid in counter folds;
  • Cut two arcs at once. Stretch one along the cut and sew a ribbon to it to attach it to the cornice. And the fabric that will be cut on the bias will hang down in the form of soft folds. The edge of the arch will run along the arc at the bottom; it should be sheathed and can also be decorated with a ruffle.

If in addition to the kitchen, the dacha has a bedroom, living room or other rooms, then you can hang long curtains with rustic-style tiebacks there too. Additional decor can be:

  • cords;
  • beads;
  • buttons;
  • satin ribbons;
  • fabric or lace frills.

There is nothing complicated about sewing curtains for a country house. You just need to choose the right fabric, taking into account all the features of the room and its style, and then you can make it even more comfortable and attractive.

Master class: how to sew curtains for the kitchen with your own hands

Flowers in the kitchen create a special mood, especially if they are blooming all year round and never fade. How to get such flowers? "Drop them" right on kitchen curtains!

Floral curtains for the kitchen

Necessary materials:

  • natural color linen - 1.6 meters
  • checkered and striped reps - 30 cm each
  • checked rep - 50 cm
  • sewing machine
  • threads
  • pins
  • pen
  • scissors

Other fabrics can also be used. So, for creating appliqués with plant motifs on kitchen curtains, scraps of antique chintz with a small floral pattern are perfect. We glue the chintz with dublerin: apply the adhesive side to the wrong side of the chintz and carefully iron it through damp cloth. Using a simple pencil we draw flowers and petals on the double paper. Having cut out the details, we apply them to the curtain and attach them in a zigzag pattern, using a contrasting thread selected to match the bright pattern.

Operating procedure

1. Sew loops for the curtain. From striped fabric, we cut out two strips 23 cm wide, fold them in half lengthwise and stitch them, departing from the edge 1.5 cm. Iron the seam, trying not to touch the fold of the fabric with the iron.

2. Having stitched the strip to the edge at one end, turn it inside out using a pencil or pen. We remove the auxiliary stitch, straighten the stitched seam and iron the finished blank for the loops. We process the second strip in the same way. We cut the resulting blanks into 25 cm pieces.

3. Cut the linen fabric to the size of the window, not forgetting to add seam allowances along the edges: 1.5 cm on top, 5 cm on the bottom and 3 cm on the sides. Please note that in finished product The length of the loops will be 12 cm, so do not forget to add them and shorten the fabric accordingly. We fold the fabric on the sides twice and sew it off, retreating 1.5 cm from the edge. We pin the loops folded in half to the upper edge of the curtain from the wrong side and attach them. We distribute the loops evenly across the entire width of the curtain: with a curtain width of 140 cm, the distance between the loops will be about 12 cm.

4. Cut a strip of 30x150 cm from the checkered fabric. Fold one of the short edges and iron it on the wrong side. We apply the finishing strip face down to the wrong side, aligning the fabrics along the upper cut. We chop the canvas along the entire length using fitting pins. Then we bend the other side of the strip, aligning it clearly with the processed edge of the flax. Trim the excess fabric and iron the fold. We sew the parts with a seam, retreating 1.5 cm from the edge.

5. Bend the finishing strip onto the front side of the curtain. Straighten and iron the stitched seam. Fold the bottom edge of the checkered stripe inward and iron the fold. Laying the curtain on the surface large table, straighten the linen and checkered finishing fabric. Pin the bottom edge of the strip to the linen. We attach the finishing strip along the perimeter with a seam to the edge.

6. Using a pattern, we create a paper pattern of a flower on a long stem. We cut out flowers from different fabrics - striped and checkered. We make two of the five flowers “in a mirror image”.

7. After ironing the folded fabric, mark a line for the bottom edge of the curtain. We pin the flowers (you can baste them) to the bottom of the canvas, aligning the cut of the stem with the fold line. To make the image livelier, we place the flowers at different heights.

8. We attach the flower applique along the edge with a zigzag, setting the stitch length to 0.5 mm, width to 3.5 mm. Using a steam iron heated to maximum, iron the seams of the appliqué along the front and back sides of the curtain. We bend the bottom edge and stitch along the front side with a seam 2 centimeters from the edge. That's all! You can hang your masterpiece on the window!

It’s simply amazing what expressiveness can be achieved with completely simple technological techniques. Check out this sheer, inexpensive voile curtain created by Italian decorative designer Patrizia Zani. Piece of art, and that's all. But it is possible to sew curtains yourself with your own hands. The master class will teach you how to do this.

The finest, most elegant graphics appear on the window plane as a result of simply processing (here with a special machine, but the same effect can be achieved using a regular zigzag) of the edge of the tapes cut with a bevel.

The nobility of the color scheme is yellow-green tones; the top line is visually well-developed with rounded “dots” formed by the ends of the ribbons intersecting. A small “comb” on the main canvas. The completeness is low, 2, maximum 2.5: transparency should not be lost.

The Italian designer suggests assembling with gaskets manually, but you can simplify the task by sewing on a ribbon with a similar pattern, which, by the way, is the most common, and can be found in any sewing supply store. (Raibant is German name all the same mounting, in other words, curtain tape). No machine stitching: hems can also be done by hand. This also works towards the basic idea of maximum lightness. Do-it-yourself curtains master class, try as detailed as possible and everything will work out.

The overlap on the floor logically completes the whole picture. The feeling of a flowing waterfall is created very vividly. The source of the stream is on a light upper line, not burdened by any cornice (the entire curtain is attached to a string), the foaming mass of water is imitated by ribbons with a wavy edge that naturally expand towards the bottom, the white boil of a transparent veil lying on the floor resembles a seething whirlpool...

This is art!

DIY curtain with teeth

A curtain decorated with a scalloped frill looks elegant in the kitchen, bedroom, and children's room. Our step-by-step master class will tell you how to sew it with your own hands.

Window decoration is a creative process, and a beautifully and tastefully decorated window can decorate the interior of any room. Typically, rectangular sheets of fabric are used for this, so many types of curtains and drapes can be easily made by yourself. For novice decorators, we recommend starting with kitchen windows. Traditionally, lightweight fabrics and simple designs, to sufficiently provide natural lighting to the room. So, let's try to make curtains for the kitchen with our own hands.

Choosing curtains for the kitchen

A decorated window looks harmonious if the curtains reach the window sill, the end of the window sill trim, or the floor. Curtains of undefined length should be avoided. It is also important that everything looks beautiful both indoors and outdoors.

Specialized store departments offer a wide selection of drapes, curtains and tulle materials in a variety of patterns, textures and colors. There are also ready-made sets of curtains on sale, but often they are not suitable in size, quality of materials, and it is also difficult to choose the color or shade you need.

In any case, whether you buy ready-made curtains for the kitchen, order them from a specialist, or sew them yourself, you need to start with measurements. To do this, make a large-scale plan - a diagram of a wall with windows located on it. Measure dimensions windows, the distance of the window to the floor and ceiling, if there are several windows - the distance between them.

Advice: if the distance between the windows is no more than 30 cm, then they can be designed as one whole.

The width of the curtain is determined as follows:

  • measure the length of the cornice rod between the two stops;
  • multiply the resulting value by 2-2.5 for heavy fabrics, by 3 for thin ones (allowance factor for tails);
  • Divide the result by the width of the fabric, then, if necessary, add allowances for the side seams (if the side cuts are not edge).

After these manipulations and calculations, it becomes clear how many vertical parts future curtains may consist of. If there are two or more parts, an additional 18 cm is added to each for the panels to overlap each other when closing.

The length of the curtain is the main length, according to the drawing, plus allowances for the hem of the bottom cut and the method of processing the top (ties, hanging loops, eyelets). It should also be remembered that the curtains do not reach the floor by 1.5 cm, and are made below the window sill by 2.5 cm.

Next, you need to decide on the design of the curtains, pre-select the fabric and make a final calculation of the material, taking into account all allowances for draperies. We recommend purchasing materials one meter more for unforeseen cases.

We make curtains for the kitchen with our own hands

We offer you several simple solutions in the design of a kitchen window.

Model 1. “Light curtain” up to the length of the window sill

Initial data: wooden kitchen window 140x140 cm, the length of the cornice rod between the stops is 165 cm.

Materials:

  • coupon curtain (compositionally finished fabric with already decorated side and bottom edges) - 260x155 cm;
  • tulle;
  • organza;
  • curtain fabric - 265x155 cm;
  • curtain rod tape (textile tape with already prepared loops for plastic curtain rod hooks) - 262 cm.

For a curtain not made from a coupon curtain, you will need bias tape to match the fabric (about 4 m long), the amount corresponds to the length of the curved cut (measured according to the pattern plus 2 cm for finishing the edges), threads to match the color.

Construction of the pattern:

  • the rectangle is divided in half;
  • 90 cm from the top cut is marked;
  • a smooth curvilinear line is formed.

Sewing technology:

  • side sections are sewn with a hem seam with closed sections, seam width 10 mm;
  • the lower curved cut is edged with bias tape, the ends of the tape are pre-folded inward; the upper cut is folded 2 cm and stitched to the wrong side, width 2-3 mm from the edge;
  • The cornice tape is laid on top and adjusted along the edges to the canvas, the edges are folded inward. We iron the finished curtain and hang it on the cornice, evenly distributing the allowances on the folds.

Model 2. “Domino Principle”

Initial data: a window with open access to it, the ability to make curtains to the floor, a cornice with two rods.

Materials:

  • curtain fabric;
  • tulle;
  • organza;
  • two canvases of contrasting colors (calculation of the material is made according to the method described above, taking into account the overlap of the panels);
  • cornice textile tape and two ribbon ties or cords for each canvas;
  • two hooks or clips for curtains (can be replaced with painted self-tapping screws screwed into a wooden frame).

Cutting is very simple - these are two rectangular canvases of the appropriate size.

Sewing technology:

  • hem all open sections and stitch the cornice textile tape.

The finished curtains are each hung on their own separate rod, secured with ties and attached to hooks or clips.

Model 3. “Cafe”

Initial data: wide double or single leaf wooden window, cornice

Materials:

  • curtain fabric - 30-50 cm wide;
  • thick fabric for lower curtains;
  • cornice textile tape for the upper tier;
  • slats (length similar to the length of the window sash) with fasteners.

Cutting and sewing: upper tier is cut and manufactured according to the principles described above.

If desired top part models can be crocheted, or made from the same fabric as the bottom one, decorated with fringe or frill. The curtains of the lower tier are made taking into account the allowance for the drawstring, where the rail will be threaded, the width of the curtain can correspond to the window or have an easy assembly (taking into account the allowances for the side seams, the width of the canvas is multiplied by a factor of 1.5), the length of the lower tier curtain is 1/3 of the window opening.

This model is the most practical and economical in terms of materials costs. The slats can be replaced with a string or cord attached to colored nails driven into the window casing.

In general, there is no limit to the variety of window designs. You can simply hang the canvas the width of the window, secure it with a ribbon and secure the tie to the wall on one side. The result is an asymmetrical drapery, convenient if the table or refrigerator is located near the window. Or you can stitch a drawstring in the middle of the same fabric and assemble the drapery vertically. The lower edge of such a curtain is finished with a contrasting frill.

In order to make an arched shape, you can do it in two ways.

The first involves the following actions:

  • take a single piece of fabric and cut out an arc at the bottom;
  • in this case, a reserve for hemming is provided;
  • the cut edge is processed with a special bias tape;
  • At the top you need to gather the fabric a little to form folds.

The second option for sewing a curtain involves:

  • cutting two arcs;
  • the upper part of the curtain stretches;
  • loops are attached to it for hanging from the cornice;
  • It is also recommended to secure finishing tape at the top.

Soft, attractive and charming folds on the curtain will be formed by the fabric itself, which will hang over the window sill along an oblique line.

The cut out lower arc represents that same arch. Don't forget to hem it.
