My jigsaw is 18 cm high, so I made 20 cm long stands from the board. Then I pressed the two pieces together with a clamp and sawed off 5 mm from them on both sides so that both stands were the same height.

  1. Remove the soleplate from the jigsaw using the supplied hexagon. There is already one hole in the cover, you just need to drill three more so that there is a mounting hole in each corner.
  2. In the central part of the plywood cover, mark the place where you will attach the jigsaw sole and the hole for the jigsaw blade.
  3. Now you can drill four holes in the plywood, countersinking them with a countersink bit so that the screw heads are flush with the surface. All that remains is to make a hole for the file.
  4. Now put the sole back on the jigsaw skis, and attach the plywood cover to the sole so that the file fits into the hole provided for it.
  5. Insert a washer into the widening of each mounting hole, insert bolts into the holes and tighten them on the other side with nuts. It was a little difficult to tighten the bolts, so I secured the head of each bolt with a flat head screwdriver and turned the other side with a wrench.

Step 4: Install the jigsaw on the base






Lower the lid with the jigsaw onto the base with the stands and secure it on top with screws, having previously drilled holes for them. Be sure to countersink these holes to prevent the wood from cracking when screwed. The jigsaw should not touch the base and should have a good grip on the lid. Therefore, the screw heads must be flush with the surface of the lid, otherwise they will unscrew while the jigsaw is running.

From the remains of the board, I made two additional rear posts, so the machine became much more stable.

Step 5: Modification of the machine

At this stage, the machine is quite functional; it is enough to simply secure it with a clamp on the tabletop and you can work.

I identified two features of my jigsaw:

  • the blade moved a little to the sides, especially when working at high speeds.
  • The width of the blade was greater than that of standard jigsaw files, making cutting especially difficult thin holes left much to be desired.

Step 6: Reduce the width of the canvas





A narrower blade will give you the ability to cut fine curves and make it easier to cut rounded corners.

  1. Pull the saw to the maximum, do not forget to turn off the jigsaw from the mains.
  2. Mark the point where the blade exits the housing. Below this point nothing needs to be removed.
  3. Remove the file from the jigsaw and grinding machine grind the canvas to the desired width. When grinding, dip the file in cool water so that it does not overheat, otherwise the metal will lose its hardness and the file will no longer be able to cut through anything. I made the guide from a small strip of PVC plastic. At one end of the strip, use a jigsaw to make a small slot at an angle to the middle of the strip. We secure the strip behind the saw by screwing it to a wooden L-shaped piece mounted on the lid of your machine. The guide can be lubricated with oil for better movement.

Remember:

  1. The guide should never be higher than the blade at the lowest point in the blade's path.
  2. The guide limits the size of the material you are going to cut due to its height and mounting point on the surface. Therefore, it is better to fix the guide as high as possible (taking into account the previous remark), and move it as far away from the canvas as possible, with a slope to the side as soon as possible.

Step-by-step instructions for making jigsaw guides

1. As a base for the village, I took a door made of DPV from an old cabinet. You can use a sheet of plywood. Based on this, we mark the centers of future supporting elements from wooden slats– the distance from the edge should be equal to half the thickness, in my case 15 mm with a strip thickness of 30 mm.


2. Along the perimeter we make holes for screws with a diameter of 3 mm with chamfers so that the heads of the screws do not protrude above the plane of the base of the frame. There are 2-3 holes on each side.



3. The next step is to use wood screws to fasten the base supports from 30x50 mm slats one by one. Supports are necessary so that there is free space for the jigsaw file.

4. Next, we make guides from two 20x30 mm slats and a base from 10 mm plywood, as well as jigsaw travel limiters from a slats of the same section.


The length of the guides must correspond to the length of the bed, and the width is selected individually for each jigsaw. Looking ahead, I will present a photo from which the principle of selecting the width of a plywood base is clearly visible.


5. First you need to dismantle the base of the jigsaw. Next, applying a 20x30 mm strip, we make markings for fastening with self-tapping screws.


6. Place the batten under the sheet of plywood, with the markings remaining on top!


We make three holes for self-tapping screws with chamfers to “hide” the fastener heads.


We attach the rail to the base of the guide.
7. We attach the second side rail only after trying on the base - it should move freely between the slats, but without play. After “trying on” the slats, we temporarily fasten it on top with two self-tapping screws, and then, by analogy with the sixth step, we fasten the second slats and unscrew the temporary screws.


8. We secure the travel limiters with two self-tapping screws.


9. Based on the completed markings, in the first step we make marks with a pencil along the edges of the guide.


Using the marks, we mark and make holes with a diameter of 6 mm.


10. Using the holes made in the previous step as a jig, we make holes in the base.


11. Use a 10 mm drill to make blind holes 10 mm deep.


12. Screw furniture fittings into the resulting holes using a hexagon. They can be purchased at hardware stores.



We screw M6 studs into the footings.


13. We perform similar operations on the guide.


Then we drill out the internal thread of the fitting with a 6 mm drill.
14. Mount the guide on the studs.



The movement should be free, without jamming.
15. We carry out the markings through hole under the jigsaw file (don’t forget to take into account the protruding pin).


16. We carry out a longitudinal cut with a jigsaw; at this step it is important not to rush, performing the cut at low speed with the pendulum mode turned off (mark “0”) in order to get the maximum smooth cut without moving the saw.


17. Using a square, we attach a stop from a 20x30 mm rail perpendicular to the guide.

Since childhood, we have been familiar with the technology of sawing with a jigsaw.
