If you are a small specialist and are starting to make a transforming bed with your own hands for the first time, stop at more simple version. As mentioned above, this is a bed-wardrobe. First, make or find a drawing of the future product with the necessary parameters, marking the places of fastenings and connections.

A bed that can be converted into a closet if necessary

The bed-wardrobe model is divided into three main parts, which will first need to be created separately and then combined into one. These elements and materials required for manufacturing are listed below.

Manufacturing process

Connecting two parts for a double bed - frame and sleeping part

Installation of a transformable bed consists of two points - first of all, you need to make a frame for the folding mechanism, and then - a sleeping place. On the Internet you can find ready-made dimensions for standard single and double models, but if you need other parameters, you will have to calculate them yourself. The Furniture Designer program will be an excellent assistant for this.

We attach the frame using corners to anchors if you have walls made of concrete or brick, or self-tapping screws if the house is wooden

Make a firm fixation anchor bolts strong metal strip on the wall. This will be needed in order to strengthen the frame with metal corners. For the base of the frame, take two reliable boards - they perform a load-bearing function, the average length for standard forms Transformer beds are about two meters. Along the edges, top and bottom, use glue and self-tapping screws to secure them with a cross board. Using adhesive and self-tapping screws, secure the casing to the finished frame. Remember - it is necessary that the depth of the box matches the thickness of the bed. In order not to end up with a box that does not contain the finished product, it is better to make it a few centimeters larger.

Installation of a wardrobe-bed frame using a bed lift mechanism

Next, you can begin installing the folding bed. As a base, take plywood that meets the required parameters. In order to avoid damage and sagging of the material, strengthen it from below by installing four boards along and across the future product. For greater comfort, you can equip the base of the bed with various sides, but remember - nothing should interfere with the lifting mechanisms.

Connected frame and base, with structural reinforcement wooden block in the middle

The next step is attaching the frame to the wall. For a long service life of the finished product, choose only high-quality fasteners. Fix the folding part to the frame with hinges, and secure its free end with special fasteners - it is thanks to them that the transformer bed is kept folded and will not unexpectedly fall apart. If you cover wooden surfaces varnish, it is more advisable to do this while the folding part is not fixed to the frame.

The last step is the decoration of the finished product

The transformable bed can be supplemented with small cabinets, shelves or mirrors, which will give the design greater functionality. In options modern design the product can be painted acrylic paints– bright colors are the most popular in children's rooms. The bedroom can be decorated using a combination of several colors and patterns. If you don’t know how to draw, you can find many stencils on the Internet - print out the one you need and use it to create a unique design.

For better match with the cabinet, outside products can be decorated using overhead fittings, false crossbars and imitation handles. You can also create additional niches using mirrors or install additional elements lighting - light bulbs, LEDs.

Finish the end of the boards with a self-adhesive edge - it can be purchased at any hardware store. Place the edge with the adhesive side to the end, and run a hot iron over it. Next, wipe with a dry cloth, pressing carefully. Cut off the excess and sand with sandpaper.

As you can see, the result of a transformer bed made with your own hands will be no worse than a factory one, and in some cases even better and will be unique in its kind. The main thing is desire, patience, strict adherence to instructions and the use of quality materials.

Video: DIY wardrobe bed

It arose for a reason, since I have 2 room apartment, and sometimes there isn’t enough space in it, and then there’s this double bed that takes up half the room. And with a wardrobe-bed it would be much more convenient, a neat wardrobe during the day, and a full bed at night. Since there was no money for a purchased wardrobe-bed, I decided to try to make it myself, although first I had to draw drawings, measure the dimensions, and after everything had already been decided and approved at the family council, we ordered the necessary parts for the future bed.

The construction process has begun.

We decided to make the base of the bed from our sleeping place that was in use at that time, and took a mattress from it and orthopedic base size 180x200 cm.

We unscrew the slats from the base; the slats are slightly curved plywood strips.

Since the furniture legs are unlikely to be able to support the weight of the future wardrobe bed, I decided to install it on two bars measuring 40x50 mm.

Then we connect the base with the side walls.

And of course we attach the top panel.

Here, in general, the base for the cabinet is ready.

We attach the resulting base to a pre-selected wall.

I think there is no need to explain what it is and why it is needed. Since all the work was carried out in the apartment, and there were a lot of shavings, it was decided to vacuum after each drilled hole.

The next step is to install the bed frame using gas springs and a mechanism for lifting the bed itself

The heaviest loads are in this place, so be careful.

This is what it looks like when connected.

And from a different angle.

Now we strengthen the base.

We fasten the slats, and this is the result.

We attach improvised doors, pulling the handles of which will turn the bed horizontally.

For convenience, we attach side cabinets where we will store bedding. Anyone who wants can attach lamps to the cornice of the closet, which is the foot of the bed.

And this is already final ready-made option wardrobe-beds.

Well, I hope so, because I have taken all measures to ensure a quiet and sound sleep!

Such modern development, like a folding bed, built into a closet with your own hands, complements the interior well and frees up a lot of space. Folding beds can be installed even if there is enough space; it is more convenient to accommodate guests during their arrival than on a folding bed.

Making it yourself is not too difficult if you have basic craftsmanship skills, necessary tool and there are funds to purchase the materials from which the bed is made. If experience in mastering carpentry was and the memories of it are rather positive, then making a bed that transforms into a closet will not be difficult.

To work you will need:

  • square ruler;
  • level;
  • roulette;
  • marker or pencil;
  • small wood saw or jigsaw;
  • drill or hammer drill;
  • plywood;
  • metallic profile;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • furniture legs;
  • lifting mechanism.

Before starting work, calculate the overall dimensions that the folding bed will have. It is also necessary to calculate the number and location of fastening elements and all components, the lifting mechanism and determine the use of materials.

Folding bed built into a closet: design elements

There are three main elements that require special attention: a fixed vertically fixed base, the base of the bed with a mattress and the hinge connecting them. The fixed base mounted on the wall must have great strength, since the folding bed and lifting hinge weigh a lot. Fastening is carried out to the ceiling, floor and wall. Most often, the base looks like a hollow box for a cabinet, but if you make it yourself, there can be many options.

Vertical base

The wall to which the built-in bed will be attached must be at least 2 bricks wide. If the wall is made of plasterboard, then the fasteners are used long so that they pass through the plasterboard and are secured to the wall, brick or concrete. Otherwise, there is a very high probability of the entire box being torn off the wall. Most furniture is made from chipboard, but in this case the base, namely its vertical walls, should be reinforced by adding metal corners or boards made of solid wood. Chipboard is strong enough under standard loads, but in this case the load is significantly increased.

You can strengthen the base with a pair vertical racks from boards or old metal pipes, fixed to the floor and ceiling. When installing all fastening elements on the base, marking the mounting holes is done especially carefully, since its functioning depends on this. The self-tapping screws with which the box is attached to the wall of the room should be located no more than 25 cm from each other. The structure of the base box itself must rest solely on a flat floor and be an even rectangle, all angles of which are equal to 90º - otherwise the strength will be reduced.

Lifting mechanism

Folding bed the built-in one is driven by a special lifting mechanism, which ensures the connection of the mattress with the base. It is quite difficult to make it yourself, and the strength of the finished product should be much higher than that provided by making it yourself, so it is advisable to purchase a lifting mechanism from a reliable furniture manufacturing company.

In some cases, mechanisms are used that are not strictly intended for furniture; for example, a built-in bed can be equipped with a garage curtain or a solid axle running across the entire width of the bed, connected to the sidewalls. But you should engage in the manufacture of a lifting mechanism yourself only if you are completely confident in your abilities and the strength of the materials. Such heavy object, like a bed with a mattress, not being kept in an upright position can cause very serious injuries.

The frame with the mattress should not only rise with ease, but also be fixed in this position on required amount time. IN homemade mechanisms gas shock absorbers, counterweights on strong cables or several coil springs are used. In order to reduce the load on the base and generally not make the structure heavier, it is advisable to make the lifting mechanism as light as possible.

In a small apartment, a closet bed can be a real salvation. During the day it does not take up much space, and only folds out at night. In addition, such transformable furniture is not at all difficult to make yourself. And if you give free rein to your imagination, it will combine not only a sleeping place and storage boxes, but also desk. But before you start assembling this piece of furniture, you need to draw up competent drawings of the future furniture.

Figure 1. Drawing of a wardrobe-bed.

Drawing up a drawing

In order to draw up a competent drawing, it is necessary to correctly calculate the dimensions of the future furniture. As a rule, a transformable bed is assembled taking into account the dimensions of a particular room. If you have a narrow but long room, then it makes more sense to make a tall cabinet. Its central part will be occupied by a folding bed, additional storage space can be placed on the sides, and a mezzanine can be equipped at the top. This design is shown in Fig. 1.

If the room square shape, then transformable furniture can be more complex. Now in stores you can find modules in which a desk becomes a pull-out element, and the bed is located on the 2nd tier.

Figure 2. An example of a wardrobe-bed design.

For self-made The most difficult part is the mechanism for raising the bed, which is stored in the closet. Easiest to purchase finished design, sold already assembled. But as a rule, such mechanisms are not cheap.

A way out of the situation may be to purchase individual elements of the system and self-assembly mechanism. The instructions that manufacturers place in catalogs of finished furniture will help you when working. An example of such a drawing is shown in Fig. 2.

When drawing up a diagram, you can provide your own dimensions. But make sure that the overall proportions of the product are maintained. Otherwise, the wardrobe bed will not have the expected functionality.

Materials and tools

Transformable furniture is usually made from chipboard, laminated chipboard (laminated surface board) or wood panel. It is the latter material that has the greatest durability. But natural wood costs more. Therefore, craftsmen prefer to use laminated chipboard. But experts do not recommend using plywood, even thick enough. Since its service life does not exceed 5-7 years.

Figure 3. A table-bed is especially convenient and practical to install in a teenager’s room.

In addition to the main material, you will need timber with a cross section of 5*5 cm and edged board(1.5*5 cm). It is best to use Eurobolts as fasteners. This type of connection becomes much more reliable than using self-tapping screws. And the nodes that do not bear a serious load are connected using wooden dowels.

To work you will definitely need the following tools:

  • jigsaw or wood saw;
  • electric drill and set of drills;
  • screwdriver;
  • grinder or special attachment for a drill;
  • hex keys;
  • Screwdriver Set.

Don't forget about measuring instruments, which will help you assemble the wardrobe bed correctly. You will need a measuring tape, a square and a building level. It’s wiser to prepare everything you need in advance. This will allow you not to be distracted from your work.

In order to make a wardrobe bed with your own hands, you will not need a lot of effort and skills, but you need to know in advance that all the elements will need to be completed to the highest possible quality. Currently, only 2 materials for such products are used at home - chipboard and furniture board, each of which has its own pros and cons.

Furniture boards are high-quality boards glued together using a special technology. There is no need to worry about the quality of gluing and pressing, because... they are slightly inferior in strength to solid wood. In addition to strength, the advantages are ease of use and excellent visual performance of the final products. The downside is the price and the inability to find the material in a number of cities.

LDSP is laminated chipboard, which does not have high quality and excellent external indicators. If you work with it correctly, its service life will be at least half a century. The advantages include flexibility and general availability anywhere in the world.

Basic stage of work

  • drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • laminated chipboard;
  • roulette;
  • furniture screws;
  • timber 50*50 mm.

At the very beginning, you need to make drawings according to which the further work. During the development of the drawing, it is necessary to provide for the quality of the bed’s fit to the wall and its elongation in relation to it, the number of beds and the lowering system.

After this, you can begin work activities. At the very beginning, a do-it-yourself wardrobe for the bed is designed. Making it is quite simple, but there is one subtlety that many people forget about - strengthening the structure. The whole process takes place in stages:

  1. 2 slabs 450*1800 mm and 2 slabs 1124*450 mm and 1 slab 1124*1800 mm are cut. Narrow and long ones will be located below and above, narrow short ones - on the sides, and the last one will be the back wall.
  2. All panels are fastened together using furniture screws. To do this, a hole is initially made with a drill. smaller diameter, and only then the screw is screwed in. This order is necessary to prevent possible splitting of the material. The step between the fastening points is 25 cm (it can be increased to 35 cm, but the structure will become weaker). To drill holes, a special drill is used, which immediately prepares a groove for the screw head.
  3. By internal corners It is advisable to lay a small beam and fix it in a checkerboard pattern. This must be done in such a way as not to penetrate through the body of the resulting cabinet. If you are not sure that this step will work, then it is better not to do it.

Making a frame and mattress pad

Required materials and tools:

  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • jigsaw;
  • roulette;
  • timber 50*50 mm;
  • edged board 15*150;
  • furniture screws;
  • free-floating joints;
  • mattress pad fasteners.

The bed frame is not much more difficult to make. Measurements are made individually each time, because... Laminated chipboard and furniture panels are not always 20 mm thick. After an accurate measurement of the internal perimeter has been made, you should subtract 2 cm from each side, because otherwise the tree will be too tightly fixed, and at the same time remain motionless.

When making a bed, you must follow the following procedure:

  1. 4 panels of a previously determined length, 150 mm wide, are cut out. From below, the shield should cover the entire surface.
  2. The panels are fastened together using furniture screws. Joints should be made with a frequency of 25-30 cm. Each joint must be made with high quality so that later complications do not arise.
  3. A beam is screwed from the inside around the perimeter at a height of 30 mm from the bottom side. The frequency of joints is once every 40 cm. The mattress pad will be laid on this beam.

There are several options for making a mattress pad, depending on the wishes of the master:

  1. An edged board is screwed onto the mattress pad in 30 cm increments. It turns out to be of high quality, easy to use and fast, but if you need to move the bed, then considerable difficulties arise, because the design turns out to be very cumbersome.
  2. Another rectangle is made from timber, identical to the already finished one, only the new one is not fixed to the frame. Then the edged board is screwed onto this rectangle. IN in this case the mattress pad can be easily removed and can be easily carried and replaced, but its price increases by 15-20%.

Taking into account the fact that the bed will rise, the mattress pad must have additional latches, which can be chosen from a huge variety: from simple latch type to more modern plastic ones that respond to a certain directional pressure.

Now the bed is fixed at 2 points to the cabinet at a height of 300-350 mm. The simplest fastening is shown in a drawing where ordinary hinges are used. The fastening must be located strictly at the same level in order to avoid rapid wear.

At the very end, movable legs are attached. The fastening system is hinged or bolted, depending on preference. Only 2 pieces are used. in the corners, because The rest are replaced by cabinet hinges. When lifted, under their own weight they should go under the base of the mattress pad, i.e. their width should be only 30 mm.
