  • When 3-5 sheets of corrugated sheeting are laid and they are aligned along the edge of the overhang, they are permanently secured to the sheathing. The sheets are attached to the sheathing at the bottom of the wave, immediately after the sheets overlap, and then, passing one wave, along the bottom of the second.
  • If two or more horizontal rows are laid, then in the strip of their overlap they are secured with self-tapping screws along the bottom of each wave.

  • After this, the outer part of the valley is screwed with self-tapping screws to the corrugated sheet.

To do this, you need information regarding the width and length of the slope, as well as what brand of corrugated sheeting will be used. To calculate, you can use a special program or draw a roof on a reduced scale. This will help you perform almost accurate calculations. One should not forget the fact that the sheets are laid overlapping. Depending on the angle of the slope and the brand of corrugated sheet, the overlap will differ. This way you will find out how much of the length and width of the sheet will be “eaten up”. Moreover, do not forget to add an overhang to the cornice, which can be up to 30 cm.

Note! It is necessary to purchase in advance all additional elements, for example, valleys and strips. They will be fixed in places where the slope has a certain bend, at the end, on the ridge and in other similar places.

Each sheet is attached to the sheathing with self-tapping screws. This is the only way to ensure reliable coverage. There are special requirements for fasteners. Thus, they must be made of galvanized steel. In this case, each screw must have a special gasket made of elastomer or neopreon rubber. This rubber will ensure a tight connection between the self-tapping screw and the corrugated sheet. Thanks to this, moisture will not penetrate into the wooden elements roof, which means rotting of the supporting structure will be prevented.

The following technical parameters are required for self-tapping screws:

  • Sizes 4.8x32mm, 4.8x60mm and 4.8x80mm.
  • The presence on the cap of a protective and decorative coating in the form powder paint and a layer thickness of 50 microns.
  • The surface is treated with electrolytic galvanizing with a thickness of 12 microns.
  • The presence of a protective elastomer gasket for profiled sheets and for valleys made of aluminum sheet.
  • Self-tapping screws must contain stabilizers that do not allow negative impact ultraviolet rays.
Note! When buying covering sheets, purchase one color and screws. This will add aesthetics to the entire roof.

It is also worth mentioning the special seals, which are made of foamed polyethylene and polyurethane foam. The sealant is placed between the sheet and the sheathing. It is believed that a strip seal with a rectangular cross-section is universal. But it will be much more effective to use those seals that repeat the shape of the corrugated sheet.

The presence of a seal reduces noise metal roof, increases the quality of thermal insulation of the cake and increases its service life. Special glue is applied to the seal strips on both sides, so its installation is greatly simplified. It is very important that the seal has perforations for ventilation in the under-roof space.

Note! The presence of a seal eliminates large gaps formed as a result of the sheet adhering to the roofing structure. Birds, insects and cold air often get into these gaps. The special properties of the sealant material make it bioresistant and moisture resistant.

Immediately before the installation of the profiled sheets, hydro- and vapor barriers are laid. To make a vapor barrier, you can purchase a special film or roofing felt, as a last resort. The vapor barrier is attached to the sheathing. It is recommended to lay it from the bottom edge of the roof. Thanks to this, each subsequent layer will be lower and moisture will not penetrate the wood.

Note! If the grade of corrugated sheeting used is S-8, S-10 or S-20 with a thickness of up to 0.5 mm, then the sheathing must be continuous. In all other cases, the sheathing pitch is selected individually depending on the characteristics of the roof.

It is also worth mentioning the insulation layer, which will retain 25% of the heat. Those roofs on which corrugated sheeting is mounted are advised to use matte insulation. The result will be a roofing pie:

  • A layer of vapor barrier film.
  • Insulation.
  • The final waterproofing layer.

When making this “pie” you should organize a “cold triangle”. Its presence will ensure good passage warm and cold air through cracks in the eaves and ridge. This will create natural ventilation, which will prevent the formation of condensation.

The laid waterproofing layer will retain all the properties of the insulation. Otherwise, with strong moisture, an ice crust and dampness will form on the roof and, as a result, the process of wood rotting is inevitable. For this reason, you should choose the material for each layer of the cake carefully. It must be of high quality.

To ensure that all work goes smoothly and without failures, make sure you have the necessary tools in advance:

  • rope;
  • roulette;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • metal scissors;
  • construction gun with sealant;
  • marker or pencils;
  • construction stapler;
  • drill.
Note! Cutting of profiled sheets is carried out cold, since the polymer coating is not resistant to high temperatures. It is better to use metal scissors or a jigsaw. In this case, treat each cut with an anti-corrosion primer. This will increase the service life of the coating.

Laying scheme

The sheets are laid overlapping on the lower edge of the roof, and the screws are twisted into a wave bend. Compliance with a specific installation diagram will allow you to create reliable roof. First of all, under the valley strip at the level of the sheathing, a dense flooring is made from the valley at a distance of 60 cm on both sides. The bottom boards of the valley are mounted with an overlap of 20 cm. The bottom plank is secured at the edges with nails, and the final fastening is carried out together with the roof. If the slope is gentle, then sealing mastics should be used here.

Under the ridge, the bottom strip is inserted 25 cm. A profiled or universal seal should be laid between the profiled sheet and it. As for the installation of the end boards, it is better to fasten them above the sheathing, then it will be possible to fasten the end strip. This structure will be called a wind corner. After this, the cornice strip and filing with corrugated sheeting are installed. It is mounted below the profiled sheet.

The installation of sheets will completely depend on the type of roof. For example, if the slope is gentle, then longitudinal sealing gasket and overlaps one wave. If the slope is steep, there is no need to use a compactor.

Note! If you have a hip roof, then installation begins with the hip itself. A cord is stretched along the cornice and each subsequent sheet is aligned along it. It is unacceptable to do this at the end of the slope.

There are two methods for laying corrugated sheets on the roof:

  1. Vertical direction. In this case, the first sheet with temporary fastening is laid below. The sheet is mounted in the same way on the second row. Next, two sheets are placed side by side to form a square of 4 sheets. More sheets are placed on top of it, and so on. This method is especially popular if the roof is equipped with a drainage groove.
  2. Another method of laying sheets is to make a block of 3 sheets. First of all, 2 sheets are laid on the first row. They are securely fastened to each other, and the 3rd sheet of the 2nd row is joined last. This block can be secured while aligning it with the cornice.
Note! No matter what method of laying sheets you choose, it is important to pay special attention to each joining point. The reliability and quality of the roofing will depend on this.

Each sheet of corrugated board will require 7-8 screws. They need to be twisted into the lower wave. As mentioned above, the material is mounted with an overlap both vertically and horizontally. The overlap will depend on the angle of the slope. From what place should the sheets be laid? If the roof slope has a rectangular shape, then it is possible from any end along the eaves line. If the shape is trapezoidal or triangle, then first of all it is important to think through the laying scheme. However, the first sheet is mounted in the center, and then the sheets are laid in both directions according to symmetry.

If a drainage system is planned, then the corrugated sheeting is mounted along the eaves with an overhang of 60 cm. If there is no overhang, then the overhang is made according to the grade of material:

  • NS-20 – up to 10 cm.
  • S-44 and NS-35 – up to 30 cm.

So, align the first sheet along the eaves and end of the roof. After this, it is secured with a self-tapping screw at the top. Each subsequent sheet is fastened along the longitudinal side of the sheet. It is pre-aligned along the cornice, and then fastened to the sheathing. According to this scheme, row after row is assembled.

The material is installed in such a way that a frontal overhang 7 cm wide is formed. At the eaves, the sheet is fixed at a distance of 30–40 cm, and the remaining rows of screws can be staggered in increments of 1 m. In the area near the pediment, the screws are tightened in increments of 500–600 mm . On a longitudinal overlap, the fasteners are located at the top of the profile at a distance of 300 to 500 mm.

The next step is to install the ridge and end strip. According to the standard, the end strip is 2 m long. If the length is not enough, then it is overlapped. The fastening of the plank is carried out from the roof overhang to the ridge.

Note! When installing the end strip, make sure that it overlaps at least one wave of the sheet. The screws are screwed in 1 m increments to the corrugated sheet.

After this, all that remains is to make the last roofing unit - the ridge. Only smooth ridge elements should be used here. A number of experts recommend laying a special ventilated seal between them. If the sheets are corrugated, then a ridge seal is used.

At the conclusion of the roofing work, an abutment strip is installed with corrugated sheets. They are an element 2 m long. They are laid with an overlap of up to 20 cm. The fasteners are made with self-tapping screws from the side of the roofing sheets. Mounting pitch 40 cm.

Note! When arranging connections between the roof and the wall, you should use a special sealant. It is laid between the joint strip and the upper edge of the corrugated sheet.

To prevent snow and rain from getting into the cracks, a longitudinal seal is also laid at the side junction. If the roof is steep, then such a seal is not needed.

  2. The sharp edges of the sheets can cut your hands, so you need to wear protective gloves when working.
  3. Three people are required to lift the sheets onto the roof. In this case, two guides are used.

  5. If the surface is accidentally scratched, these areas must be treated with paint for polymer coatings.
  6. You can only step on the sheets in the sheathing areas.
