Static balancing valve. Overview of characteristics and applications of balancing valves from ballomax Balancing static valve 250

Efficient work heating system largely determines its balance. It allows you to prevent the possibility of situations when an excess volume of coolant is supplied to one radiator, while an insufficient amount is supplied to another. To do this, the heating system must include balancing Danfoss valves, the operating principle of which allows for hydraulic balancing (linking) of coolant flows through various elements of the heating system or stabilization in them circulation pressures or temperature.

If necessary, it is possible to install pipeline throttling valves from other manufacturers, which will eliminate instability of the heating system, difficult startup of the system, uneven distribution of the coolant and the associated uneven heating of the premises.

What types of valves are there?

Balancing valves are usually divided into:

  • automatic (dynamic), which are capable of maintaining a constant pressure drop in the risers of a two-pipe heating system or the flow rate in the risers of a single-pipe heating system;
  • manual (static), which can be used as an adjusting diaphragm in systems where there is no automatic control device or where the installed regulator does not allow limiting the flow limit. They are valve type devices.

Balancing valve made of brass

It should be noted that all modern systems heating systems that use radiator thermostats are dynamic systems. As a result of the operation, radiator thermostat, constantly responds to the slightest changes in air temperature in the room, thereby changing the coolant flow, which leads the heating system to a constantly changing (dynamic) operating mode. This operating mode necessitates the use of automatic (dynamic) balancing valves.
It is also common to classify valves depending on:

  • working medium used: water, glycol solution, steam;
  • working environment parameters: pressure, flow, temperature;
  • installation locations: supply or return pipeline, bypass;
  • type of building (single-family or public);
  • operating function, which provides for the regulation of pressure, temperature, and flow of the working medium. A combination of them is also possible;
  • type of connection, which can be threaded or flanged.

Can be used to make valves various materials. Static valves are usually made of brass (can be flanged or threaded connection) or cast iron (flange connection only). In the manufacture of dynamic products, brass, cast iron or carbon steel can be used to ensure the required technical characteristics.

For ease of regulation, the valves can be equipped with:

  • fixed position lock;
  • shutter position indicator and setting value;
  • pipe for drainage of the area on which the valve is mounted
  • a measuring diaphragm that allows for highly accurate flow determination;
  • pipes for measuring coolant flow, pressure and pressure drop across the valve.

Valve operating principle

The main difference between a balancing valve and a shut-off valve is that it can operate when the valve is in an intermediate position. It is worth noting that the design of the balancing valve may be different. There are valves in which the stem is located at an angle relative to the flow, and the spool is made not only straight, but also cylindrical, conical or radial. Let's look at the operating principle of a valve that has a straight stem and a flat spool.

Straight stem valve

During valve operation, the flow area between the spool and seat pair changes. Due to this, a balanced system is achieved. The spool is located in a plane parallel to the axis of the pipeline. While in a plane located perpendicular to the perpendicular axis of the pipeline, there is a threaded spindle to which the spool is pivotally connected. The valve body contains a fixed threaded nut, which together with the spindle forms a running pair.

Due to the rotation of the tuning handle, torque is transmitted through the spindle and the fixed threaded nut associated with it, as a result of which the spool is given a translational movement, as a result of which it moves from the lowest to the highest position. Being in the lowest position, the spool is tightly connected to the seat in the valve body, thereby tightly shutting off the flow.

Depending on the type of coolant used, hermetic shutoff of the flow is ensured by the presence of a seal between the valve and the seat, created by fluoroplastic or rubber rings or of the metal-to-metal type. As a result of a change in the flow area, the throughput of the balancing valve changes, which is understood as a value numerically equal to the flow rate, expressed in m³/h, through completely open valve, at which the pressure loss will be 1 bar. The dependence of throughput on changes in gate position can be seen in technical specifications valve

BALLOREX valves

The Polish company BROEN BALLOREX, in its Venturi series, produces a manual balancing valve with high accuracy regulation. Such a valve is a valve that performs two functions:

  • valves with manual adjustment;
  • constipation ball valve.

It allows for balancing and hydraulic regulation, limiting flow, opening and closing the flow of the working medium in the system, as well as measuring the temperature of the working medium and flow using a standard flow meter. It can be purchased at various designs. The range of these valves is available in diameters conditional passage from DN 15 to DN 200 and nominal pressure PN 16 Var and PN 25 Var. Valves with a nominal diameter from DN 15 to DN 50 and a pressure of 16 Var have a flange connection, and valves with a pressure of PN 25 Var have a threaded connection.

BROEN BALLOREX valve

All balancing valves and their elements (valve body, measuring diaphragm, shut-off ball, adjusting rod) with a nominal diameter from DN 15 to DN 50 are made of chrome-plated brass. And balancing valves with a nominal diameter from DN 65 to DN 200 are made of steel also with a flanged or threaded connection.

Valves of the Venturi series, with the same nominal diameter, are produced with different flow capacities, depending on the type of design: high (H), standard (S) and low (L). In addition, the Venturi series is available in two types: Venturi FODRV and Venturi DRV; these valves have flow control measuring nipples. All valves of this company can be installed in any position on any section of the pipeline before or immediately after the branch, before or after the narrowing of the pipeline.

This Polish company also offers automatic balancing valves in various modifications. Ballorex DP valves are installed on the return pipeline, providing the required pressure drop on the circulation ring under any load. This makes it possible to put the facility into operation step by step due to the possibility of zonal balancing. The use of Ballorex DP eliminates noise phenomena caused by overpressure created in other parts of the heating system.

Valves from a Danish manufacturer

Another manufacturer is the Danish company Danfos, which supplies valves of all types, differing high quality execution. MSV-BD LENO™ manual valves are a new generation of valves. They allow solving problems of hydraulic balancing of heating systems. In doing so, they combine the functions of a standard manual valve and a ball valve, thereby ensuring fast and complete shut-off of the flow. Most models allow you to take data at the outlet and inlet, but some models have a nipple only on one side.

Automatic valve ASV-M

Automatic ASV-M, the price of which allows us to talk about the optimal price-quality ratio, can be used as a shut-off valve and, if necessary, connection impulse tube from ASV-P(V). ASV-I. It allows you to limit maximum flow transported coolant. The valve is equipped with special plugs for measuring nipples. By installing nipples, you can measure the coolant flow that flows through a specific section of the system.

Valves of the ASV series are distinguished by high quality workmanship. They allow you to maintain a constant pressure difference between the supply and return pipelines. The ASV-P, installed on the return line, features a fixed setting of 10 kPa. While ASV-PV has a measurable setting of 5-25 kPa, and ASV-PV Plus has a measurable setting of 20-40 kPa.

How is installation done?

When performing installation, it is very important to ensure the required position of the valve. In this case, the arrow on the body must coincide with the direction of movement of the coolant. This position will ensure not only the required design resistance of the valve, but also the required flow. At the same time, it is worth noting that some manufacturers allow the possibility of installing the valve not only in the direction, but also against the flow. The rod, in this case, for most models, can occupy a different spatial position.

During the installation process, it is worth protecting the working parts of the fittings from various mechanical contaminants. To do this, you need to install a sump filter or a special filter in front of the valve. To eliminate turbulent fluid movement, it is necessary to provide straight sections of sufficient length before and after the valve. This requirement must be specified in the documentation for the valve.

A heating system equipped with a balancing valve must be filled in a special way. To do this, in systems equipped with dynamic valves, it is necessary to provide filling connections, which must be located in close proximity to the valve on the return pipeline. And the valves mounted on the supply pipeline must be carefully closed. To set the balancing valve, a special flow meter or differential pressure and flow tables are used. However, in any case, the initial calculation is performed at the stage of calculating the heating system.

The heating system requires periodic adjustment. The coolant must be evenly distributed over it, which means it requires special equipment, which will help make adjustments correctly. This device is often a balancing valve.

By hydraulic balancing, the coolant is distributed throughout all areas of the heating circuit without exception.

Simple system options involve adjusting the coolant flow by selecting the optimal pipe diameter around the perimeter.

Special washers are also used, the passage in which is designed for uninterrupted flow of water and uniform heating of the elements.

Each of these options was used in old-style heating circuits. New method– installation of a balancing valve, which is a regular valve that regulates the amount of coolant supplied.

Design Feature

A high-quality part includes reliable components:

  • Robust brass body with threaded fittings for connecting pipes. Inside the product there is a saddle in the form of a special vertical channel.
  • Adjustment spindle. The working part is represented by a cone, which is screwed into the saddle. As a result of spindle activation, the coolant flow is blocked.
  • Rubber O-rings.
  • The cap is usually made of plastic. There are also metal options.

A distinctive feature of the device is the presence of two special fittings.

They are responsible for the following functions:

  1. Determine the pressure inside the system both before and after the valve.
  2. Connect a capillary type tube.

Each of the fittings measures the pressure, and if a difference in values is detected on the control mechanism, the water flow is calculated.

Operating principle

Balancing valves are designed to help achieve maximum performance from all heating elements system, and also adjust it at any time.

What is it needed for

The name of the device speaks for itself - it is used to achieve balance in the heating system. The primary task of these operations is the uniform distribution of thermal energy in all circuits of the heating main. It turns out that each of the supplied batteries will receive the required volume of coolant at a specific temperature.

When we talk about adjusting the system, we mean the preliminary flow of coolant for highly efficient operation of each section.

If the pipeline is simple, then the balance of heat consumption can be established by carefully selecting the diameter of the pipes. If the system is complex and has several branches, then the volume of heat energy for a separate circuit is adjusted using special washers (their displacement makes it possible to set the required pipe diameter for circulation of the coolant).

Balancing valve device

However, it is worth saying that all of the above methods are outdated. Currently, a special control valve is installed in heating systems, which is assembled similarly to a valve. The product body has a pair of fittings that are used for:

  1. Measuring the water pressure in the system before and after circulation through the valve.
  2. Connecting a special capillary tube to adjust its operation.

In the process of measuring pressure, each fitting used assigns its value and differential values after passing through the regulator. Based on these parameters, according to the instructions for the valve, you can calculate the required number of turns of the handle for rational water consumption in the heating system.

Balancing valves for heating systems of popular brands, for example, Danfoss, are equipped with a digital display. The user, looking at the panel, can be aware of the volume of water circulating through the pipes. However, such devices are quite expensive.

Kinds

Based on what functions are assigned to the balancing valve, the following types are distinguished:

  1. Valve manual type(static) provides optimal operating properties in the presence of stable system pressure, and also provides the ability to turn off and empty individual system elements using a drain valve, carrying out repairs on site without shutting down the entire system.
  2. Automatic balancing valve (dynamic) mounted on the return circuit. It is connected by a tube to stopcock on the supply line and maintains the required parameters, changes them to acceptable ones when pressure and temperature changes. These valves are suitable for system division into independent zones with different start times (which distinguishes them from manual models).

Principle of operation

The main difference between the valve in question and the shut-off valve is the ability to operate when the valve is in an intermediate state. It must be said that the design of the balancing device can be different. There are valves with the stem positioned at an angle relative to the flow. Their spool can be either straight or in the shape of a cone or cylinder.

Let us dwell on the principle of operation of a valve with a straight stem and a flat spool.

When the valve operates, a change is made flow area between the spool and the seat. Because of this, the system is balanced. The spool is located in a plane that is parallel to the pipeline axis. At this time, in a plane that is perpendicular to the pipeline axis, a threaded spindle with an attached spool is located. The body of the balancing device has a fixed threaded nut, which together with the spindle creates a running pair.

Due to the rotation of the adjustment handle, a message is transmitted to the spool through the spindle and the fixed threaded nut. After this, the spool moves from the lowest position to the highest. When located at the very bottom, the spool is attached to the seat in the valve body and thus tightly blocks the flow.

The seal between the valve and the seat, which is created by fluoroplastic rings, rubber rings or metal-to-metal type (depending on the type of thermal fluid used), forms a durable and high-quality shutoff of the flow. Due to changes in the flow area, the throughput of the balancing valve also changes. By capacity (through a fully open valve, with a pressure loss of 1 bar) we mean a value equal to the flow rate (indicated in m³/h). From the valve data sheet you can find out the flow capacity depending on the change in the position of the valve.

Automatic and manual balancing valves in the heating system

Where else is a balancing valve used?

A balancing valve for a heating system is used to regulate individual branches, but this is not the only way to use it:

  1. The device can be mounted on a small circulation circuit of a solid fuel boiler if it is shorted to a buffer tank. The idea is to maintain the heating of the liquid in the circuit at a minimum of 60 ºС without using a mixing unit for this purpose. However, in in this case, the flow rate in the boiler circuit should be higher than in the heating circuit. This is the task of the balancing valve, which is mounted on the supply.
  2. The second method of application is to regulate the supply of liquid to the boiler coil indirect heating. The boiler is usually connected directly from the boiler room. Thus, it would be better to limit the amount of water used to heat the boiler.

It would be good to install balancing valves on all system branches, including underfloor heating and hot water supply circuits. These actions will make the system highly efficient and will certainly lead to coolant savings.

Manufacturers

You can find models of the devices in question on the market various companies, both foreign and domestic.

Among the most popular manufacturers of balancing valves are the following brands: BROEN (Denmark) and Danfoss (Denmark), as well as Vexve (Finland), GIACOMINI (Italy), ADL (Russia). Let's take a closer look at some of them.

Manual balancing valve VIR 9505 and automatic GRANBALANCE® KBA

A balancing valve for a heating system is a fairly useful and sought-after device. However, you need to install it wisely. Let’s say that it is irrational to install this valve on non-functioning circuits configured using washers. In the case of dismantling, when new heating devices are added to the circuits or new construction is carried out, balancing valves must be used for adjustment.

The Danish company “BROEN VALVE GROUP” appeared on the market of valve manufacturers back in 1948. Today the company is considered one of the leaders in its segment. Fittings from “BROEN” are installed in heat supply systems and industrial lines.

Balancing valves and Ballorex can be installed almost anywhere in the pipeline and in any position.

Advantages of Ballorex balancing valves

Thanks to the narrow specialization of the Broen brand, the valves of this trademark have a number of undeniable advantages:

  1. , covering various diameters and operating parameters, makes it possible to select best option for highways for various purposes.
  2. Design features of the valve, which are based on ball valve, allow you to regulate the flow or open and close the flow of the working medium anywhere in the pipeline.
  3. Minimal restrictions on the installation location make it an almost universal fitting.
  4. Together with the balancing valve, a hexagonal valve is supplied, with the help of which the working flow is regulated.

Ballomax and Ballofix fittings

In addition to balancing valves, the Broen company also produces other types of fittings. Ballomax ball valve is designed for gas distribution lines, cooling and heat supply systems, as well as for the transportation of mineral oils.

Ballomax ball valves (welded and flanged)

The Ballomax crane, made of carbon steel, is designed for 30 years of operation, which is an average of 15 thousand “closing-opening” operations. Ball valves are made in various diameters workflow and have different ways accession– flanged, threaded, welded or combined.

Cranes “Broen” and “Ballomax” come with an extended spindle or with a regular stem, and are controlled using an electric gearbox or manually.

For heat supply and cooling systems they are used with a passage diameter of 15-1400 mm and a working pressure of up to 40 bar. Temperature Range ranges from -40ºC to +200ºC.

For gas distribution systems, taps with a diameter of 10 mm - 1200 mm are used, the pressure of the working medium is up to 40 bar.

Ballomax ball valve device

Fittings “BROEN BALLOFIX” applies only to internal engineering communications. There are the following types:

  • brass ball valve. Passage diameter from 15 mm to 50 mm, pressure up to 25 bar. Used in heating systems and cooling lines. A tap is used to shut off the flow of the working medium. The full bore brass Bollofix valve is controlled by a handle and connected to the pipeline using an internal cylindrical thread;
  • brass Valve diameter 10-50 mm, operating pressure no more than 16 bar. The main purpose is to prevent the backflow of the working environment. Used for ventilation, cold and heat supply systems. Connected via internal cylindrical thread;
  • air vent. With their help, they get rid of air or gas accumulations in heating systems, working environment which is water. The diameter of the air vent passage is 10-15 mm, the maximum pressure is up to 10 bar. The brass air vent is connected with a threaded connection;
  • brass filter. The filter design includes a drain plug, the passage diameter is 15-50 mm, and the pressure is up to 16 bar. The method of connection to the pipeline is internal thread.

The operation of a heating system is often accompanied by uneven distribution of coolant throughout the circuit and connected devices. This can lead to pressure and temperature changes that negatively affect heating efficiency and can damage equipment. A balancing valve, various models of which are sold by Forsterm, helps prevent these consequences.

Manual balancing valve: operating principle and purpose

This device is a type of pipeline fittings and is used for the calculated distribution of coolant along the circuit and equalization of its pressure and temperature. Regardless of what design the balancing valve has, its operating principle is based on changing the throughput of the pipeline by increasing or decreasing the flow area. This is achieved by gradually moving the spool relative to the inlet of the device, and therefore the device allows for smooth adjustment.

Videos, diagrams of balancing systems

By using a flow meter, flow balancing operations are simplified since the flow value can be read and adjusted at any time without resorting to differential pressure gauges and reference graphs.
