Polycarbonate canopies over the sidewalk. How to make your own polycarbonate canopy, photo instructions

If you have your own summer cottage or country house, and there is no gazebo or garage on your territory, then you can do what so many people do in similar situations. You can install a polycarbonate canopy right in the courtyard of a private house. The design will protect your car, swimming pool, front garden, furniture placed on your site from the negative effects of atmospheric phenomena.

This could be rain or hail, wind or hurricane gusts, as well as the blazing sun, which can have not very pleasant consequences in the form of burning out plants, but also paint and varnish coatings of products. Thanks to this design, winter period there won’t be a mountain of snow piled up on the threshold of your house, and sometimes even icy. Besides everything, yours suburban area will be under reliable protection from winds and rain.

Polycarbonate carport

Many people make a canopy in such a way that a car is “hidden” under it. But such a structure is very easy to build, and also disassemble back, if necessary. A special feature of a polycarbonate canopy is its protection. After all, a car that will be parked under such a structure will be protected by more than one hundred percent! Compared to plastic, polycarbonate is 8 times more stable and 10 times stronger than glass.

Such a structure is an excellent choice for summer cottages. After all, in summer period You can leave your car overnight under such a canopy, and even near your home! At the same time, you don’t have to worry at all if there is a thunderstorm or scorching sun. Even in extreme heat, the car will not overheat, since polycarbonate “repels” the sun’s rays. After all, this material is a type of plastic!

What is the best way to organize such a structure? Look at our photos of polycarbonate canopies.

What type of material should I choose to build a canopy?

Before deciding on the type of structure that you plan to build on your site, it is important to find out in more detail about the types of polycarbonate, which one is better, properties, etc.

This question largely depends on what your general requirements for the characteristics of this material are. The main types and characteristics of this subtype of plastic are:

  • Cell phone. This material is quite durable, has impact and wear resistance, and excellent thermal insulation properties. Thanks to its cellular structure, ultraviolet rays penetrate under the plastic, but the objects underneath do not heat up.
  • Monolithic. It behaves very strongly in relation to blows. Its strength compared to glass is 250 more! And if you need a material that is very impact-resistant, then choose monolithic polycarbonate.

What type of polycarbonate construction should I choose?

Once you have decided on the type of material to use, you need to decide what kind of design you will have for it?

Its structure can be:

  • Single-pitch. They are attached to the walls of buildings and installed using the hanging or support method. A very big advantage of this type is that the snow will not linger in winter.
  • Gable. This type is built in the same way as two single-pitched ones that are connected to each other. But it is installed independently of the walls of the building. And its main advantages are: high degree endurance and protection from gusty winds.
  • Arched. This type of installation is carried out on a frame resembling an arch made of metal tubes. Such a structure can be a separately erected structure or combined with a building. This type of construction has a fairly high rigidity, which provides reliable resistance even to very strong wind turbulences, snowstorms and blizzards.

A selection of photos of polycarbonate canopies in the courtyard of a private house

Be sure to look at the photos on our website. Perhaps for your site you will look for the most suitable option designs.

For example, if you have a fairly large area, a swimming pool and a specially equipped recreation area, you can install an arched or gable structure. They will take up a lot of space. As a rule, in small areas polycarbonate canopies are erected over the porch of the house. They look original from an aesthetic point of view, decorating the overall exterior. At the same time, it protects against bad weather or the blazing rays of the sun.

Above the porch itself it is worth installing a lean-to type. It can be made from various polycarbonates, depending on your individual preferences. Also, the type of construction can be anything, for example, a flat canvas, at a sharp angle; half-arched structure, the dome of which covers the porch; a polycarbonate canopy attached directly to the building, and its location in relation to the ground will be parallel.

The design of the visor depends largely on the entire exterior land plot, as well as the characteristics of the building. For example, if your house was built in the Art Nouveau or High-Tech style, pretentiousness and ornateness would be quite appropriate here. For a house in a classic style, restraint and conciseness are suitable. Concerning color design and the type of frame itself, then you should choose them based on the exterior of your suburban area.

If you have a porch with an equipped canopy, then it will be very convenient to leave the same crop, bicycle, skis, sleigh, etc. on it to protect from rain and winds. And those structures that will be attached to the house will create a pleasant shade on hot summer days, and in winter they will protect your area around the house from snow and rain.

If your house is combined with a terrace, then the canopy must be installed above it, and not just at the entrance to the house. In this case, an arched or gable type of structure is installed in the part above the porch and up to the terrace, and directly above it - the structure should be single-pitched, attached to the building.

The porch is “covered” on top with a canopy made of cellular polycarbonate. If the canopy does not need to be attached to the wall of the building, you can choose monolithic polycarbonate.

Many of us still remember when awnings were a structure made of gray slate on supports made of metal or wooden poles. They, of course, protected from bad weather, but made the space underneath them dark and dull. Nondescript structures have been replaced by light, translucent polycarbonate canopies in the courtyard of a private house: photos of non-trivial forms reliably demonstrate the elegance and functionality of modern canopies made of strong and durable polycarbonate.

The versatility of using polycarbonate canopies in the yard

Appearance on the market building materials polycarbonate, which has high optical and mechanical properties, made it possible to successfully use it for various kinds of lightweight structures: light-transmitting roofs, greenhouses, canopies, gazebos, verandas, canopies, summer showers and many others.

Thanks to the plasticity of this material, it has become possible to realize elegant design designs from polycarbonate sheets. The versatility of canopies using polycarbonate lies in the fact that in addition to the function of protection from negative influence climatic conditions, they perfectly complement and complete the architectural composition.

The use of polycarbonate sheets to cover canopies is explained by a number of qualitative characteristics of this material:

  • high impact strength - with low weight, polycarbonate is hundreds of times stronger than glass and many times stronger than acrylic plastic and polyvinyl chloride;
  • light weight - ensures ease of cutting, processing and installation;

  • excellent light transmittance - transmits and diffuses light, preventing ultraviolet radiation;
  • resistance to chemical and atmospheric influences;
  • high bending strength, resistance to mechanical stress;

  • safety of processing - does not crack, does not break, does not produce sharp fragments upon impact;
  • durability - maintaining quality properties throughout the entire service life;
  • fire resistance;

  • heat resistance - withstands temperature changes from -30 to +55°C;
  • does not require additional processing, easy to care for;
  • excellent design characteristics- has plasticity, bends easily, has a variety of colors, manufacturers are constantly expanding the color range.

In its structure, polycarbonate can be monolithic or cellular (cellular), having several layers connected by stiffeners. When giving preference to using one or another type of plastic to cover a canopy, you should take into account the requirements for the design. Monolithic polycarbonate is heavy-duty, impact-resistant, durable, but heavier and more expensive. Honeycomb samples are quite plastic, lightweight, and due to the scattering of light, they prevent heating of objects located under canopies.

Polycarbonate canopies in the courtyard of a private house: photo examples, installation rules

Considering the plasticity and ease of processing of polycarbonate, fastening the sheets to the frame of the canopies can be done independently. The plastic cuts and drills well without chipping or forming cracks. But it’s worth familiarizing yourself with some installation rules and nuances:

  • The sheets must be laid with the marked side up, where the plastic is treated with a protective colored film, otherwise the polycarbonate will quickly collapse. Traditionally, manufacturing companies put their logo on this film;

  • when drilling holes for fastenings, you need to ensure that the distance from the edge of the sheet is over 45 mm;
  • the length of the edge lines of the sheets should be along the longitudinal elements of the frame;
  • it is necessary to calculate the exact pitch of the longitudinal supports and transverse elements of the frame to ensure the rigidity of the structure made of polycarbonate panels;

  • for point fastening of sheets to the frame, self-tapping screws with special thermal washers (to match the color of the plastic) are used, and the holes for the screws are made a little larger, taking into account the thermal expansion of the material;
  • the sheets are positioned in such a way as to ensure the removal of condensate from the channels to the outside. The channels in the material have a longitudinal direction;
  • if the canopy is arched, the sheet is positioned so that the stiffeners run along the arc; with a pitched canopy, along the slope;

  • for longitudinal connection of panels, polycarbonate profiles (transparent or colored) are used;
  • The end edges of the sheets must be properly processed: if the polycarbonate is located at an angle, the upper edge is covered with sealing tape, the lower edge with punched paper tape. In an arched structure, both ends are supplied with punched paper tape. This treatment prevents dust from entering the sheet and at the same time ensures condensation drainage;

  • When caring for the material, it is not recommended to use abrasives or remove dirt with sharp objects (knives, screwdrivers).

Shapes of polycarbonate canopies and their advantages

Polycarbonate canopies in the courtyard of a private house (photos of structures with different outlines confirm this) can be given any configuration. But there are several types of frames that are most often used in yards own houses and in summer cottages.

Arched (semicircular) awnings are among the first on this list. They are used to cover a yard, parking space, swimming pool, terrace, balcony, porch. Arched canopies are often used with one side supported on an existing permanent structure or fence. The advantage of this type of frame is, first of all, the free flow of snow from the canopy.

It is necessary to take into account that when it rains, water flows onto both sides of the canopy. The arched structure is quite strong and damage to such a structure from strong gusts of wind is unlikely. Complexity self-made in the arched version lies in the difficulty of bending the profile pipe of the frame.

Cascading canopy systems look very stylish. They consist of several semicircular structures located at different levels. Such canopies are used to cover a high porch with a large number of steps to avoid precipitation from falling on the lowest step.

If, when protecting the porch, only one arched canopy is used, it will have to be placed at an appropriate slope, which will allow water to flow directly under the lower step. And the cascade design will direct the flow of water to the sides. The manufacture and installation of such a system is more complex and involves additional consumption of materials.

Single-pitch shed structures are quite simple, but no less popular in arranging a yard. The frame is easy to assemble. There is no need to use trusses to strengthen the structure or bend polycarbonate panels for covering. The main condition will be the correct choice of angle of inclination and thickness of the coating at which it will withstand the snow load.

A gable canopy is often used to protect barbecues, barbecues, and porches. Its design is a little more complicated compared to a lean-to structure, but it is more resistant to powerful wind currents. The gable structure itself provides more reliable protection from rain and snow. A steeper slope angle ensures faster snow removal from the roof surface.

Polycarbonate canopy structures in the courtyard of a private house

Many people prefer to attach a canopy to one of the walls of the house. Typically, such structures cover a fairly significant, if not the entire, part of the yard, which allows you to be outside in any weather. There are awnings that cover the passage to the summer kitchen or garage, which also eliminates the discomfort when moving in inclement weather. Hanging structures attached to a house can have a lean-to or arched shape. The main thing is to correctly calculate the load during the winter period of operation of the canopy.

Other popular types of canopies are canopies. They are usually installed above the entrance or porch, protecting it from rain and ice during the winter season. A canopy over the porch will protect against water getting on the steps and prevent their destruction. Can be equipped with a visor entrance doors in a workshop, bathhouse, summer kitchen or basement.

The canopies are given different shapes: single-pitched, gable, semicircular. Care should be taken to ensure that the structure is consistent with the general style and is securely fastened. Arched visors with decorations made of forged elements look impeccable.

Canopies covering recreation areas are distinguished by their functionality and aesthetics. playgrounds, as well as serving as gazebos. Variety of constructive and color solutions These structures are truly impressive. There are products in the form of a dome or tent, using a combination of polycarbonate colors for different sectors of the coating. Small polycarbonate canopies above a complex of several benches and a table look simple and laconic, where you can enjoy the local landscape, regardless of the weather.

Many swimming pool owners build canopies over them. This greatly simplifies the care of an artificial pond and allows you to indulge in water procedures in any weather. Thanks to protective properties polycarbonate, you can swim in the pool under such a canopy even when the sun is at its zenith: it will not harm your health.

The design protects the pond from debris, leaves and rainwater. Canopies can be installed either permanently or have a collapsible design. For coating, monolithic polycarbonate with a thickness of more than 5 mm or cellular polycarbonate is often used if its thickness is at least 8 mm.

Polycarbonate awnings covering a balcony or terrace combine functionality and aesthetics. Translucent structures reliably protect open spaces from precipitation, preventing premature destruction. And elegant forms adequately decorate the façade.

Carports made of polycarbonate. Photos of the best options

Carports that provide vehicle protection are extremely popular. They are a worthy alternative capital garages. Such structures can have different shapes, be attached to the house or directly to the garage, or installed separately. Some models of canopies have a lean-to shape with a closed back side or are tied to the fence of the site.

The dimensions of carports are determined based on the dimensions of the car itself. For small cars, it is enough to cover an area of 2.5x5 m; for impressive SUVs or family minivans, the size of the area increases to 3.5x6.5 m. The height of the canopies is also selected individually, however, it is not recommended to make the structure too high, this will allow some amount of precipitation to fall under covered space.

Particularly relevant is the installation of carports made of polycarbonate (photo examples can be used as a sample) on summer cottage, where there is not always enough space for a garage. In order to save space, structures are attached to the house, and if there is no need, free-standing sheds are built.

Given the certain characteristics of polycarbonate, such a coating is ideally suited for protecting a car. You can be sure that the car will be protected from precipitation and will not overheat in the sun. By choosing a material of one color or another, you can regulate the illumination of the space under the canopy.

Many craftsmen independently install polycarbonate carports. The price in this case will only include the cost of materials.

Polycarbonate canopies – street structures, universal for economic purposes. Lightweight material, flexible, translucent in large color scheme, convenient format, are presented in different thicknesses, which allows you to design canopies of simple and complex curved shapes. The buildings look light, elegant, do not overload the landscape, and fit into any stylistic solution of the architectural ensemble on the site.

In the article we will give step by step instructions, how to make a polycarbonate canopy with your own hands, how to choose the right shape, calculate and design the structure.

What you need to know about polycarbonate canopies - general criteria

The manufacture of polycarbonate canopies has become popular due to the ease of installation, practicality of the material, and aesthetics of buildings. There are:

  • independent, free-standing - canopies over the pool, greenhouses, car parking, gazebos, outbuildings for various purposes;
  • attached to the building: bathhouse, garage - verandas, terraces, canopies over the porch and gate;
  • mobile - easily move around the site, usually over barbecues and small gazebos.

Wooden sheds with polycarbonate roofing

Making awnings and canopies from polycarbonate on a wooden base is the most budget-friendly and easiest way to make your own small architectural form Location on. The work does not require professional equipment; household hand tools are sufficient. To build a wooden polycarbonate canopy with your own hands, you use glued and profiled timber 100*100 or 150*150 mm, a rounded log ∅150-200 mm, tree trunks, strapping and a mauerlat made from the same material. For the rafter system of outbuildings, according to SNiP, it is necessary edged board 40*100 mm.

The main disadvantages are flammability, poor moisture resistance resulting in rotting, fungal infections, loss of strength, aesthetics. Rodents and small bugs can cause significant damage to load-bearing elements. Wooden canopies and polycarbonate canopies must be treated with fire-resistant compounds, an antiseptic, and a durable finishing protective layer of oil or varnish.

Metal canopies

Before making a polycarbonate canopy on a metal frame, you should choose the type of construction:

  • Welded from profiled or round pipe– the most popular polycarbonate canopies. For vertical racks they use pipes ∅50-150 mm, depending on the size of the building; for piping - a profile with an edge of 40-80 mm, for a farm -25-50 mm.
  • Forged ones are beautiful, elegant, but quite expensive from a financial point of view. On the construction market you can buy stamped forged parts and create an exclusive product yourself.
  • Prefabricated aluminum.

An iron canopy will last for decades, although its main enemy is corrosion. It is necessary to clean the parts with a stiff brush from rust, scale, oil stains, go over the entire surface with an abrasive, then rinse with a solvent. Next, cover with primer and paint, preferably with hammer paint; it copes well with chemical, biological and mechanical loads.

Good to know: Hardware they heat up from fire, sunlight, and quickly cool down in cold weather, so for comfort in gazebos, porches, and terraces, it is better to provide wooden railings on the parapet.

Brick, stone and concrete

Brick, concrete, stone polycarbonate canopies in the yard look impressive, but light and not bulky, thanks to the translucency of polycarbonate. They do not require maintenance during operation, are fire resistant, and tolerate harmful atmospheric influences, physical and mechanical effects, however, involve significant time and financial costs. While canopies made from other materials can be disassembled and moved, such structures are stationary and cannot be dismantled.

Roof

Canopies made of polycarbonate, photos of interesting ideas are presented in the gallery, there are also quite a lot of pictures and projects on the Internet, there are single- and double-slope, arched, cascade, less common are conical, domed, and wavy.

Typical options for polycarbonate canopies

Making the base is not difficult; it is enough to take into account the wind and snow loads in the region, but rafter system requires serious calculations.

Farm classification:

  • According to the characteristic outlines of the contour - polygonal, triangular, broken parallel belts.
  • By type of lattice - rhombic, triangular, semi-diagonal, diagonal.
  • According to the method of support - cantilever, beam, arched, beam-cantilever.

Cascade support-cantilever canopy made of polycarbonate

The simplest option is a lean-to polycarbonate canopy, the optimal roof angle is 22-30 degrees. The rafters are made of wood or it is a truss - a horizontal, curved or triangular frame with supporting braces, angled posts inside the main structure.

Scheme for lean-to construction

To create a project you need:

  • Diagram of the canopy with the type of roof; the type of lower and upper belts depends on this.
  • Drawings of polycarbonate canopies must include the dimensions of the structure, since the load changes in direct proportion to the dimensions. It is important to determine the upper as well as the lower point of the slope; the lower the slope, the more snow will accumulate on the roof.
  • Take into account the size of the panels; the distance between the rafters depends on this, so that the edge does not fall into the void.
  • Wind and snow loads in the region can be found using special tables.

Gable polycarbonate canopy - project with forged elements

Trusses are calculated in accordance with the SNiP regulations in section 2.01.07-85, this is difficult for independent calculations, engineering education is required, also special software. To avoid errors it is recommended to use online calculator or take a ready-made project. Loads and impacts are specified in SNiP standards in part 2.01.07-85, rules for manufacturing metal structures— P-23-81 SNiP.

Arched canopies made of polycarbonate, in the photo there are sketches for small buildings

Good to know: The greater the distance from the bottom to the top point of the roof, the higher its load-bearing capacity.

To avoid getting confused in complex calculations, use the following recommendations:

  • With a slope of 22-30 o in a building 6-12 m wide, the height and length of the triangular truss should have a proportion of 1:5;
  • If the slope is 15-22 o, the dimensions are in the proportion 1:5, but the braces must be low-sloping, an even number of belts must be made, optimally - 8.
  • A smaller slope is appropriate for large industrial buildings; engineering calculations are required here; the length and height of the run should be in the proportion of 1:7, 1:9.

Calculation of a polycarbonate canopy from a profile pipe

Let's take a canopy as a basis, size 6000*4000 mm, this is an ergonomic solution: a comfortable gazebo or covered parking for a car.

Standard dimensions of polycarbonate in width and length:

  • cast 2.050*2, 3, 6.12 m;
  • cell phone 2,100*3,6,12 m.

For private buildings, a sheet thickness of 6-12 mm is suitable.

Polycarbonate performance table

Trusses must be placed under each edge and in the middle of the sheets, so the distance between them will be 1 m.

For the racks we will take a pipe ∅80-100 mm, the pitch is 2.0 m along the long side of the canopy. For the roof:

  • essential elements - profile pipe 30*30 mm, the length of the lower ones is 3.1 m, remember the Pythagorean theorem: the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the legs, we calculate the length of the upper ones, in our case - 3.9 m;
  • inclined spacers - profile pipe 20*20 mm, location - at an angle of 25 degrees.

We will install perpendicular jumpers every 0.5 m from each other.

Step-by-step instructions on how to build a polycarbonate canopy for your house yourself

To cook metal awnings For a polycarbonate dacha, a number of conditions must be met:

  • Parts, as well as load-bearing elements, should not be cracked.
  • The roughness of the end of the supporting rib is determined by GOST 2789-73 - Ra £ 12.5 microns.
  • It is unacceptable to use steel with an internal layer and coarse slag inclusions for the lower chord of the truss.
  • According to GOST 14771-76, connections are best performed by mechanical welding, in a carbon dioxide environment or its mixture with argon.
  • According to GOST 2246-70 and 26271-84 it is recommended to use welding wire PP-AN-8.
  • To fasten rafters to sub-rafter elements and vertical columns, class 5.8 bolts are used according to GOST clause 7798-70.

Practical construction

We mark a place for the pillars, dig holes 700 mm deep, make a cushion of 100 mm sandstone, 100 mm crushed stone, and tamp it. We pour 100-200 mm of concrete into the bottom, install a pillar in it, insert it with force, in a circular motion, so that it goes deep. We fill the hole with concrete, check the plumb line, correct it if necessary, and also strengthen it with supporting slopes.

Important: Professionals recommend placing supports along the house, but if this is not possible, then load-bearing wall a beam of 60, 80*80 mm should be placed on the anchors, the trusses should be supported on it, connected by welding, this will allow the load to be distributed over the entire surface.

A way to secure vertical supports

When the solution has completely risen, we tie the pillars together at their heads, check the geometry, the diagonals must be equal.

It is better to cook farms on the ground, according to the chosen scheme; the most common ones are shown in the photo above. Finished parts lift, distribute evenly along the harness, in our case, every meter. The fastening points of the longitudinal strips and rafters are made using steel gussets, as well as welding or bolting.

The next stage is the sheathing (perpendicular purlins), from a 20*40 mm pipe, with a pitch of 400-600 mm, and the sheets will be attached to it. The finished metal structure is cleaned and then painted.

The purlins will strengthen the frame, this will allow the polycarbonate to be fixed more securely

How to work with polycarbonate correctly

Cutting polycarbonate is better circular saw, equipped with a carbide disk with undetected fine teeth. Holes should be made using a drill with a metal drill, between the stiffening ribs. At the upper ends of the honeycomb panels, strips and self-adhesive tape should be installed for sealing; the lower ends should not be covered.

There are 2 ways in total:

  • Thermal washers - the holes are made 2 mm larger than the mounting leg; the part should fit tightly until it clicks. The length of the washer is equal to the thickness of the polycarbonate; it is necessarily equipped with an elastic band that seals the connection, which prevents precipitation and dust from getting inside. This type of fastening is called a point fastening; the washer tightly holds the polycarbonate and prevents it from deforming when heated.

How to secure polycarbonate to a canopy using a thermal washer

  • A special profile is a strip with grooves on both sides into which polycarbonate is inserted. The method is preferable if the sheets have to be joined. The edges are screwed with thermal washers. Profiles are provided for different connections: corner, docking, permanent, wall, detachable and special for docking if you need to change the roof configuration.

There is also a wet method, the panels are attached with putty, but if you are making a canopy with your own hands, then it is better to limit yourself to the previous 2 tips.

Types of fastening polycarbonate to the sheathing

Construction work today is increasingly associated with the use of polycarbonate: this material, due to its practicality and excellent operational properties, will help you create strong and durable protective structures. One of the options for using such a coating is the construction of canopies and canopies on a summer cottage.

Polycarbonate can replace the more familiar PVC panels and decorate any building or area that needs to be protected from precipitation or excessive sunlight.

Before you figure out how to make a polycarbonate canopy with your own hands, let's go over the main properties and varieties of such materials, and also study the shapes and design of canopies, which are especially popular today, using photos.

Types and properties of polycarbonate coatings

When erecting polycarbonate canopies in the courtyard of a private house, it is important to choose the right type of material.

Polycarbonate canopy, photo

There are only three varieties of it. The first one is profiled polycarbonate Material with wavy and trapezoidal profiles is convenient to use for the construction of fences, roofs and other structures in the country.

Cellular polycarbonate is a panel that includes several plastic layers combined with each other by vertical ribs placed in the direction of the fibers. Canopies made of cellular polycarbonate have excellent thermal insulation properties due to the accumulation of air in empty spaces, and are also elastic and can bend even at low temperatures, so you can use them in complex construction processes.

Cellular polycarbonate can be different: these materials differ in thickness and width, parameters of the air space between the ribs, weight and other characteristics. Therefore, it is better to consult with specialists about which cellular polycarbonate to choose for a canopy, taking into account the specifics of the work that you have planned.

Monolithic The material is made on the basis of molded plastic. A canopy made of monolithic polycarbonate will have good strength and light weight. Its features include absorption of ultraviolet radiation. Often this material is used for industrial purposes.

There are many varied reviews about which polycarbonate is better for a canopy. Regardless of the methods of manufacturing polycarbonate for canopies, all such coatings will delight you with the following characteristics:

  • a wide variety of shapes and colors;
  • budget rates;
  • the ability to create both transparent and matte structures;
  • long period of operation;
  • simple installation process even when implementing complex circuits.

Let's look at some more subtleties on how to choose polycarbonate for a canopy, based on different characteristics.

Appearance of awnings

With the help of polycarbonate coating you can decorate even the most unusual designs on your site. But first you need to figure out which canopy option you need.

Distinguish lean-to sheds made of polycarbonate, inclined to one side, as well as gable options.

Advice: It is not necessary to subject the material to the necessary transformations yourself; you can purchase ready-made polycarbonate canopies or order their production taking into account the proportions and shapes that suit you.

Depending on the shape of the slope, there are straight structures, as well as arched canopies made of polycarbonate. The latter option is more in demand because it adds elegance to the summer cottage and allows you to implement interesting decor ideas.

The appearance of buildings with such canopies will also depend on the materials used in addition to polycarbonate. The most durable and practical option– metal awnings, but you can stop at wooden sheds that fit into the natural landscape. Canopies made of wood and polycarbonate are less resistant to external influences, but if you choose high-quality wood treated with protective agents, there will be no problems.

Types of polycarbonate structures by application features

Polycarbonate awnings for summer cottages can be selected in for different purposes. For example, using this material you can create protective covering for the area where you will park the car. This way the car will be protected from the sun, rain and other factors. At the same time, you can choose unusual shapes of such a canopy instead of traditional geometry.

Attention! Another advantage of buildings using polycarbonate is the environmental friendliness of this material. At a summer cottage, this factor is important to many.

The next option is how to use beneficial features such coverings - make a canopy for a polycarbonate pool with your own hands. Such a canopy will look like a spacious or compact covered pavilion, where you can protect yourself from the scorching sun while relaxing on fresh air.

In addition, erecting a canopy over the pool helps prevent water from blooming and becoming polluted by leaves and dirt in any weather. And due to the water-repellent texture, drops of water will flow down the surface.

For many people, open balcony structures pose a problem. And this is not surprising, because as soon as bad weather manifests itself, being on the balcony will become problematic. If you don’t want to deprive yourself of the pleasure of being outside the house in bad weather, you can build a polycarbonate canopy over the balcony.

By the way, another advantage of using this material is the possibility of inhibiting the aging process. balcony design. First of all, this concerns wooden balconies, because with constant exposure to moisture, the appearance of fungus and mold in this area is possible, and a loss of strength of the building is also possible.

Advice: Orange-colored polycarbonate will be an excellent solution for balconies where you grow green plants. This way you can provide them with a sufficient level of lighting for full growth.

If there is free space on a suburban or summer cottage site, you can arrange a recreation area here by installing a gazebo with a polycarbonate canopy. Of course, you can choose another roofing method, but polycarbonate, given its properties, will be optimal in terms of price and quality.

A simplified option is a bench with a polycarbonate canopy. It will find use anywhere on your site, since it does not take up much space, but is always protected from external irritants. Such a bench can be placed in a remote area or near the entrance to the house.

What to look for when purchasing

To make the right choice, you should understand a few more features. For example, know what thickness of polycarbonate is best to use for a canopy. Of course, this decision depends on many features: climate, complexity of construction, purposes of constructing such structures.

The choice of thickness will be affected by the degree of bending of the roof and the planned load of wind and snow on the surface.

Experts will tell you under what load which types of polycarbonate will be optimal. You can also look for special tables that determine acceptable lathing parameters taking into account the maximum weight. We do not recommend saving and choosing the thinnest material.

To prevent such sheets from deteriorating, you will have to increase the frequency of the sheathing, and this will require even greater costs. We also do not recommend choosing the thickest polycarbonate sheets: often this is not necessary, and even bring them to the required form it will be more difficult.

Some tips on how to choose the thickness of polycarbonate canopies:

  • if you need to build greenhouses or greenhouses in the country, choose cellular polycarbonate with a thickness of 4 millimeters;
  • a thicker version with parameters of 6-8 millimeters is suitable for canopies, partitions, roofs and awnings on country houses;
  • 10 mm canopies are suitable for designing skylights and noise barriers;
  • polycarbonate with a thickness of 16 millimeters is suitable for car parks and other areas with a large area.

When planning the construction of such canopies, the parameters of the frames should also be taken into account. If these are longitudinal load-bearing supports, make dimensional increments of up to 70 cm. Transverse supports of panels with a thickness of 8 to 16 millimeters can have increments of up to one meter. For polycarbonate with a thickness of less than 8 millimeters, it can be 70 cm or less.

Polycarbonate construction design

Not only practical features will be important to you: decide which color of polycarbonate is best to choose for the canopy. Such coatings can be very diverse in color and level of transparency.

We advise you to focus not only on the design of the entire site, but also on the purpose of such buildings. For example, blue, green and turquoise shades are an excellent option for decorating a canopy erected over a pool. But if you install such a roof in places where trade is carried out, goods will be difficult to see, so this is not the best option for shopping areas.

The design of greenhouse areas is possible using light transparent polycarbonate panels. But in an area where you will rest during the day, such awnings will not protect you from the sun. Here it is better to choose something darker and absorb light, for example, go with blue, black or brown.
