Paint for the casing. How to carefully paint already installed platbands. How to paint carved platbands.

If inside the house you can afford the most different options interior design, the outside possibilities are significantly limited. Except original color painting the walls or the material that can be used to decorate it, it’s difficult to come up with anything else. In the old days, this issue was solved with the help of window frames, which served as a real decoration for any home, showing the skill of the owner or the master creator. This tradition has survived to this day, although it has partially changed.

Peculiarities

Platbands were traditionally used in wooden houses. They helped decorate the windows and effectively complement the composition of the facade. With the help of such elements you can visually enlarge the window opening or reduce it. Initially, great importance was given to the design of the house; each owner sought to show the individuality of his building.

With the help of platbands you can achieve different effects.

  • Visual decoration of the house, giving it a special color and charm, the ability to distinguish it from a number of standard ones.
  • Giving the window a different shape using platbands of different configurations, sizes and patterns. A small window can be made large if you use openwork designs.
  • Creation of a holistic composition of all facade elements. Using the same trim on windows and doors allows you to complete the design of your home.

With the help of platbands you can protect window openings from negative influence factors environment. The seam between the frame and the house may have small gaps into which moisture gets in when it rains, and with strong winds dirt gets clogged. All this contributes to the development of harmful microorganisms that destroy wood. Therefore, the frame begins to let air through, which significantly reduces its thermal insulation qualities.

The platbands cover that very gap and do not allow moisture or dirt to reach it. In addition to the obvious advantages of platbands, there are also negative factors. It is also worth knowing about them when planning the installation of such parts on windows. wooden house. These include several factors.

  • Active response of decorative elements to weather conditions, which contributes to material deterioration. To prevent this from happening, you need to treat the products with a special substance, which significantly increases the service life of the casing.
  • Need for constant care. Platbands must be painted or varnished annually. If this is not done, the product will begin to crack. As a result, instead of decoration, it will only spoil appearance Houses.
  • When planning the manufacture of platbands, you need to choose the right material for them. If this is not done, it is unlikely that the desired effect will be achieved. If it is difficult to cope with such a task alone, it is better to enlist the help of a professional.

Nowadays there are products from modern materials, which can have a wide variety of appearances. At the same time, caring for them is much easier. They are not affected by the environment, they are not afraid of moisture and even cold. They do not crack over time and serve reliably for many years. For connoisseurs of aesthetics this is not best option. But for those who want to decorate their home and diversify the appearance of the facade, this is what they need. It is this product that will create the necessary appearance, but will not require increased attention.

Species

The species diversity of platbands is enormous. It also lies in the patterns that are applied to the wood, and the shape of the product itself. Besides this modern technologies allow you to create window decorative elements from a wide variety of different materials.

If we talk about appearance and patterns, there are several types.

  • Slotted, through which you can create elegant and beautiful images.
  • Openwork, which are distinguished by bizarre shapes that can distinguish the master’s hand from other options. They look like a continuous canvas on which they create a pattern.
  • carved, capable of creating a unique appearance and protecting the window opening.
  • Invoices, which have a complex shape design, since the carved element is superimposed on the plate. Such products can be created separately or as decoration for existing platbands. In this way it is convenient to update existing decorative elements.
  • Simple ones that have a smooth surface. There are no patterns on them. Such elements can be different in shape (with rounded edges, smooth, narrow and wide).

When choosing a material for the casing, it is important to understand that it should serve as protection for the window, and therefore you should not rush to purchase the material without knowing its features.

The most popular decorative trims are made of wood. They fit beautifully into the design of the facade of a wooden house, so they still do not lose their relevance. In order for such parts to serve as long as possible and correctly perform the tasks assigned to it, they must be processed correctly.

If you do this treatment, the wood will not rot, and moisture will not cause damage to it. In order for wooden trim to remain beautiful for a long time and decorate the house, it is best to open them with varnish. Today there is alternative option, which can also replace varnish. This is a wax-based substance. Both options preserve the appearance of the wood and give it a more graceful look, significantly extending the service life of the platbands.

In addition to wooden ones, there are also decorative items on windows made of other materials.

MDF

The MDF panel has a laminated coating. Usually such platbands have the form of a plank with a pattern underneath natural wood. There can be quite a lot of colors and textures; you can easily choose a frame for the window opening of any wooden house.

Plastic panels

Products from plastic panels They are considered the most modern because they are easy and convenient to care for. This option can be chosen by those people who do not have time to care for own home, but they want to see a beautiful structure to admire. Most often, plastic platbands are used for metal-plastic windows. However, recent trends have shown that with wooden structures They combine well and fully perform their task.

Polyurethane

Polyurethane platbands can also be used on windows in wooden estates. They are lightweight and deformable, which makes it possible to bend them in the desired direction. Installing such elements is quite simple, and their service life will please anyone.

PVC

PVC products are considered the most common today. You can find varieties of such platbands in white and a wide variety of color variations. The product is installed on the street side; it can easily cope with any weather conditions. The advantages are the abundance of colors and shapes that can be given to such material.

Foam plastic

Polystyrene foam can also be used as a material for making platbands. For this purpose, a dense variation is suitable, which will not be as strong as a metal frame. This is the reason that this kind of product is not used in countries with high seismic activity, where even the slightest vibrations of the earth’s crust would cause cracks to appear on the windows. The color of such decorative elements is white, but with the help of paint you can change it by choosing one that suits your estate.

Metal

There are also metal trims, which are considered the highest quality of all in terms of protecting windows from environmental influences. Their production requires sheets of metal with a small thickness, which makes it possible to manufacture structures various shapes. The advantage of this option over the same plastic is the material’s resistance to mechanical damage. This makes the service life longer.

For a fresh and interesting look iron products can be painted, and the appearance of the house will immediately be transformed. The popularity of this type of product is also created by the price, which is quite low taking into account all positive qualities material.

To install metal products, it is extremely important to measure the window correctly in order to install them without much difficulty. If you want to install unusual metal trims, you can order carvings, which will look interesting on the facade of the house.

You can also provide something similar inside to create a holistic image of the building on each side. Typically, external and internal platbands are quite different from each other. This is due to their functions. Facade decorative elements must combine aesthetics and quality. Otherwise, they would hardly be used to decorate the room.

Sketches

The use of platbands on the windows of a wooden house should give the building a complete look and make it more beautiful. Therefore, simple glossy panels are unlikely to be able to fully cope with this task. It is best to choose carved elements or make them yourself.

If you have no skills in working with wood, it is better to choose the first option. But for lovers manual labor And original products ideal solution There will be work based on the sketch.

The first step is to decide on the choice of pattern that will be on the platband. For this you can use books and the Internet. You can come up with a sketch yourself. As soon as ideal option will be found, you need to enlarge it to natural scale and print it out. All patterns must be cut out and accurately transferred to cardboard, with which the main work will be done. A piece of cardboard must match one piece of the casing.

You need to place it on a piece of wood and use a pencil to trace the design along which the cutting will go in the future. To choose the right design for the trim, it is worth making a drawing of the entire house using all the decorative elements. If the finished version turns out beautiful, and all the parts are in harmony with each other, then the right idea was chosen, you can begin to implement it.

Suitable for some houses simple options platbands (for example, if the estate was designed in a minimalist style during construction).

If you want to create something grandiose and beautiful, you need to choose wide planks and start creating. To make good platbands, it is best to choose pine (especially those planks with practically no knots). As tools that will be useful in the process of work, you need to have a jigsaw with soft start to manually cut out all the necessary parts. In addition to this, the following will be useful:

  • feather drill with a diameter of 12 mm;
  • screwdriver;
  • grinding machine.

The active process of working on window trims begins immediately after the entire drawing is transferred to the future product. First, they take on the inside of the drawing, making openwork details. To make the process more convenient, using a drill you need to make several holes in the board, which will be located on the contour of the picture. Cutting out the pattern itself is done using a jigsaw, which is inserted into the finished hole. Then they simply follow the contour, cutting out the necessary part.

As soon as inner part The drawing is ready, you can proceed to the outside. You need to make two cuts (at the beginning and at the end of the product) to make it easier to navigate the work.

It is important to cut in one motion, without stopping, so that the finished casing turns out to be as shaped as possible. This sequence of actions is inherent in every detail in general design platband on the window leaf.

The resulting product is still far from what it should be. Therefore you need to use grinder, clean all irregularities and roughness. Only after this stage is part of the structure treated with special solutions. After this, it can be ready to be used or painted for a more original appearance.

How to do it yourself?

Making platbands for a wooden house with your own hands is much more interesting than simply buying such elements in a store, because you can choose the design that will correspond to the spirit of the owners themselves and emphasize the design of the facade desired by the residents of the house.

You can choose a wide variety of options.

  • Flat cornice. In this case, the trim symbolizes the wealth and style of the house. They are used for beautiful and elegant buildings, made in a simple style.
  • Arched top. Platbands, which are complemented with an arch on top, will be an ideal complement to window openings, having not a standard rectangular shape, but a rounded upper part.
  • Using patterns and carvings. Platbands of this type can give the house elegance, make it unusual and beautiful.
  • Using hanging elements. These are the details that are added to the product after it is completed. In this way you can add something that you couldn’t do initially. The use of hinged parts makes the design three-dimensional and more interesting.

When planning to make platbands yourself, you need to choose the right material for the future product. It is important to choose a color based on the colors of each component of the house, to find the ideal option for decorating this product. You can take advantage of the offers that are available in construction stores and buy a ready-made version, which is much easier and faster. The installation of such a casing will be simpler, since it already contains all the necessary fasteners, and also ensures ease of installation.

If you have a firm intention to do everything yourself, there are several options for making beautiful platbands.

  • Slotted option- a product that has an internal pattern and a beautiful border. Traditionally, such a casing is white or light color, it is attached to buildings with a contrasting shade of the walls.
  • Overhead thread type created by cutting out individual elements and gluing or nailing them onto a solid piece of wood that will serve as a frame. This design option makes the drawing voluminous and at the same time airy. With the help of such overlays you can decorate any platband.

If the house already has carved frames, but they require repairs, you can remove all or part of the structure and restore it. If it is not possible to repair a part, you can remove it completely and replace it with a new one. If there is a need to make completely new designs for windows, you need to prepare all the necessary equipment, which includes:

  • jigsaw;
  • plane;
  • sander;
  • cutter;
  • sandpaper;
  • strips with a section of 30x100 mm.

This is what you will need to create simple platbands. To begin work, it is necessary to process all future parts with a plane, and then use a cutter to give them a finished look. To ensure that the product has a presentable appearance, it is sanded sandpaper. This is the simplest option for making platbands, which does not require much skill. If you want to make something original and beautiful, you should choose a carved type of product. For such work, you need to add figured chisels to the main equipment.

To make a platband, you can use two technologies (regular and overhead). In the first option, the pattern is cut out on the strip of the casing itself. In the second case, it is made on an additional bar, which is then attached on top of the main element.

For your first attempts at wood cutting, it is better to choose the simplest design options so that you can easily handle them.

If the platband is made as an overhead option, then the work process will proceed in the following sequence:

  • processing planks using a plane;
  • preparation of overlay strips with a thickness of at least 10 cm;
  • forming a future design on cardboard and cutting it out;
  • transferring the design from the stencil to the overhead strip;
  • use a drill to make holes throughout the entire pattern;
  • using a chisel you need to finish all the carved elements;
  • polishing the finished lining;
  • fastening the lining to the platband with glue or self-tapping screws;
  • collection of every detail of the platband;
  • installation of the finished structure on the window opening.

Installation ready-made structures on the window can be done using nails, screws or glue. Most often, platbands are placed on the sides and top of the window, sometimes they are also placed on the lower parts of the structure. In order to correctly and aesthetically join the edges of each part, they need to be cut at an angle of 45 degrees using a hacksaw or miter box. If the wall is concrete, dowels and screws are needed for reliable fastening.

To decorate a window beautifully country house, you need to know not only basic information, but also some nuances, without which it may not be possible to create a truly wonderful example of handicraft. Several factors contribute to such moments.

  • When choosing boards for making platbands, it is better to give preference to those options whose thickness will be 3-4 cm. Thicker materials are much more difficult to work with, especially to perform figured cutting.
  • When starting to carve platbands for the first time, you should take a simple pattern and polish it, after which you can try something more complex and interesting.
  • In addition to the thickness of the wood for the trim, it is worth taking care of the correct selection of its width, because the main purpose of these elements is not so much for decoration as for protecting the window.

The platband must cover the opening between the wall and the window frame.

  • When planning to cut out any drawings, it is worthwhile to position them correctly on the board so that they go along the grain of the wood, and not across it.
  • When choosing a design for your first attempts at carving platbands, you should look at something large with convex shapes, which will not be difficult to make, and the result will delight you with its beauty. If you choose a small ornament, in case of an unsuccessful outcome, the platband will look sloppy. This will spoil the impression of the external facade of the house.

Making platbands for the facade of a house is a long process and requires perseverance. Therefore, it is worth clearly assessing your strengths before taking up work. Choice suitable material, the desired drawing, its successful implementation in life is only half the battle. Next comes the equally labor-intensive process of processing the platbands so that they serve for a long time, while performing their functions efficiently.

The final stage of working with data decorative elements is their installation. At each stage there is a specific choice, and the outcome of the entire work depends on the correctness of its adoption.

Beautiful examples

When planning the manufacture or purchase of platbands for a wooden house, you should choose the option that is best suited for a particular building.

Using the Internet and other sources of information, you can see sketches of drawings and finished works, which will give food for thought.

If you need to paint yourself wooden doors, the task is quite easy to cope with if you have a certain tool on hand. What exactly you need depends on the material from which the canvas is made and the degree of damage.

Full wooden door (previously painted)

The simplest painting option is when it is made entirely of wood (without adding modern materials such as cardboard, MDF and veneer).

Therefore the process will look like this:

  • Carefully inspect the canvas. If you find visible defects (chips, peeling paint, etc.), you will have to start preparing first. This can be done either by removing the door from its hinges or by doing all the work right on the spot. For ease of work, it is better to remove the door handle.

  • So, first, take a spatula and remove any loose paint particles. Then go through the sandpaper to remove smaller peelings. Next, you will need wood putty, which can be used to remove pits on the door leaf. The putty should be applied in a layer of no more than 1 mm. If the defect is deeper, apply putty in several layers (but only after the previous layer has completely dried). Sand the dried putty.
  • The surface prepared in this way must first be primed (select a primer from the same manufacturer as the wood paint - this information can be checked with the seller in the store), and then covered with a layer of coloring composition. To avoid drips, it is better to use a roller or spray gun rather than a brush.

Door leaf with top layer of veneer

Painting veneered doors is, in principle, similar to painting completely wooden ones.

But there is one exception. The fact is that very often the veneer in the lower part of such doors peels off during operation. Therefore, first of all, it is necessary to carefully lift the peeled piece (without breaking it), coat the canvas and the underside of the veneer with special wood glue, and then clamp it in clamps, laying boards or pieces of plywood on top of the glued areas (this will ensure a tight and even fit of the veneer) . This “operation” should be carried out on the door leaf removed and laid horizontally.

After the glue has dried, you can begin painting. For these purposes, tinting and wood-protecting compounds such as Pinotex are suitable.

To achieve the desired color, paint door leaf You can apply it several times, each time only after the previous layer has completely dried.

The coloring composition can be applied with a brush or roller. To add shine, coat the surface with a layer of wood varnish.

Wooden door made of bars

You should do things a little differently if we're talking about about painting wooden doors from bars. They must not only be painted, but must also be covered with two or three layers of varnish, each time sanding the varnished surface. This technology will allow you to get an even layer of varnish, although the canvas itself may be a little “spotty”, since it is assembled from separate bars that have different porosities and therefore absorb the composition differently.

Painting the door frame and trim

It is clear that to remove door frame(without its subsequent replacement with a new one) will not work. Therefore, you will have to sand and paint it right on the spot. To avoid staining other surfaces in the process, cover them with masking tape. The composition should be applied with a brush or small roller. The number of layers must match the number of layers on the door leaf (otherwise you may end up with a different shade).

But the platbands can be removed first (this will make them easier to paint). They also need to be sanded first and then covered with several layers of paint.

If you varnished the canvas, do not forget to repeat the same with the box and the trim.

Replacing the box

Often during restoration the best solution It’s not just painting, but also replacing the door frame (for example, if previously there was no threshold at the opening, but now it has become necessary). In this case, the bottom of the door leaf (about 1 centimeter) will need to be sawed off (for this would be better suited hand saw for wood). Then the cut should be sanded, and only after that the entire canvas can be covered with the first layer of paint.

The new door frame should also be painted using the same paint. But the number of layers will most likely have to be increased, since its original color may differ from the initial color.

Work on my house is progressing, although not as quickly as I would like. Today I’ll tell you about windows, trim and painting the inside of logs.

Download Oh, Frost for free on player.com

While there are no windows in the house, it is impossible to put it into operation and register ownership, so I start with the windows.

Surprisingly, all the windows fit into one small van.

I spent a long time choosing the material from which to make windows. We considered 2 options - laminated metal-plastic profile or larch. As a result, I chose a tree. Each of these materials has its own pros and cons.

Some sections were made blind, some opened. This frame with a solid mounted double-glazed window weighs about 250 kg. Five of us lifted him into place. Well, at least the opening doors can be removed.

The finished result. There are 18 windows in the house different sizes and forms, including double door to the terrace (pictured)

The windows themselves are installed in a special frame assembled from wood panel or thick wide board. This frame is called a casing, a frame, a frame, etc. Whatever you call it, the purpose is the same - protecting a window or door during house shrinkage. The casing is attached to the slope of the log in a special sliding way through a key and always remains in place, even if the log itself goes down during shrinkage. To prevent the casing from being crushed by the shrinking house, a shrinkage gap of 5 to 10 cm (sometimes more) is left on top. It is clearly visible in all photos.

Subsequently, this gap is closed with mineral insulation wrapped in isospan. It works like a spring, because wooden walls can not only sit down, but also rise depending on the humidity of the environment. Vertical gaps between the casing and the end of the log can be caulked with flax.

It so happened that over large windows I had to leave very large gaps. I wanted the windows on the perpendicular walls to be at the same height. This subsequently influenced the design of the platbands.

To call specialists from BTI, in addition to windows, we also need floors between the 1st and 2nd floors so that engineers can walk through them and measure the premises. Since my ceilings are at the top wooden beams, then I start by painting these same beams. I use several colors natural wood. I’m experimenting with a new material, oil wax.

The material is more difficult to apply than regular Tikkuril or Pinotex. It takes a long time to dry, it’s much more expensive, it’s not sold everywhere, but the result is worth it.

After painting the beams, I paint and install the paneling face down.

Lining in different rooms different colors. unconventional solutions. I use pine lining, Extra grade. This is when there are no knots at all.

This is what it looked like from above. You can only step in those places under which the beams pass, otherwise the lining will not support the weight of a person.

Wooden logs are treated with fire protection.

The process of installing lining on the boiler room ceiling

Isopan is laid on top of the lining. will lie on it mineral insulation and isospan will prevent mineral dust from entering the room. Logs are laid on top of the isospan - this is the basis of the future floor.

In the meantime, preparation of external platbands is underway. They can be made from different materials and in different designs. I make them from carpentry panels - they then don’t move or twist due to humidity.

This is what the window casing design looks like. In the center of the casing, on the right there is an extension, on the left there is plywood in the cut. Plywood is more for decoration. After its installation, it seems that the casing is made of thick timber and cut into logs. Without plywood, triangular slots remain on the sides of the casing. The whole thing is mounted in a sliding manner and does not collapse due to shrinkage of the house.

Well, almost the finished result. The only thing missing is the tides and plugs. I do not putty the screws that secure all the parts, but cover them with decorative wooden furniture plugs. They are sold on construction markets and can be of different diameters.

Then the inside started. There is a more meticulous approach and the painting material is oil wax, tested on beams. Different rooms have trims of different colors.

I painted all the internal trims myself.

In parallel with the trim, interior painting was going on. In different rooms different colors. This is, for example, a dressing room. All that remains is to make a yellow floor and the inscription above the door “Glory to Ukraine.” The only room in my house painted with a covering paint that covers the structure of the wood.

The main volume of the kitchen-living room-hallway-halls of the 1st and 2nd floors is painted in white. At the same time, the structure of the tree is visible.

At the same time as painting, I am working on the sewer system. I'm installing a station biological treatment designed for the expected number of residents and plumbing fixtures.

A healthy fool digs into the ground.

Inside, the bacteria quickly process everything and at the exit, 98% purified water is discharged into the ditch. Some people use it for watering, but I have no use for it. The vital activity of bacteria and the technical process inside the installation are ensured by a special compressor and several pumps that transfer liquids from container to container.

Connects the installation to the home sewer pipe laid at a certain slope.

Let's go back to the house. Yellow trim for children's rooms

So are the walls. This photo clearly shows why the plywood is needed at the end of the casing.

Blue dressing room.

This is the future master's bathroom.

Hall 2 floors

I decided to leave a couple of rooms under clear varnish. Many people love just such walls in a wooden house.

This is what the dining area in the living room looks like.

And there will be a kitchen. Polystyrene foam insulation was very useful for concrete slab, which I purchased in advance. From these cubes it was possible to assemble forests of any configuration. like from a children's construction set.

I am designing my house as the play progresses in real time, not counting any drawings for utilities. Some beautiful pictures not yet (except for 1 bathroom), so I’m a shoemaker without boots!

Everything described in this post took approximately 1 year. +worked at the same time

Painting door block- this is one of the most common types of small household repairs that everyone home handyman performs independently. The need to perform such work arises when purchasing new door or restoration of the old one. Despite the simplicity of this task, the quality of work is not always high. Painting should be approached responsibly, taking into account simple recommendations How to properly paint a new or old door frame with leaf.

Stains, varnishes, paints

Paints and varnishes are produced on a water and organic basis, colored or transparent. They have different mechanical strength and weather resistance. The surface of the coating is glossy or matte.

Stains

This tinting material is applied before varnishing the wood to give the surface a deep shade and emphasize its texture. Stains are alcohol-based, water-based, and oil-based. Provides the highest quality and uniform coverage without raising the pile new look stains - acrylic and wax. In addition to a wide variety of natural shades, they create a protective film on the surface.

Stains

Alkyd varnishes and paints

Alkyd compositions belong to the affordable category of painting materials. The paints are available in a wide range of colors with matte and glossy surfaces. Create a strong and durable moisture-resistant coating. Used for painting exterior and internal doors. Compared to other types of compositions, alkyd paints have high hiding power, which simplifies the process of applying the material and helps to use material economically.

But in comparison with other compositions, alkyds have two significant drawbacks: an unpleasant characteristic odor and a long period of complete drying, which prolongs the release of volatile compounds harmful to human health into the atmosphere.

Alkyd paints

Important! When working with alkyd paints and enamels, it is advisable not to stay indoors long time until the material dries completely.

Acrylic varnishes and water-based paints

These compositions are devoid of the negative properties inherent in alkyd paints and varnishes: they dry quickly and do not emit harmful or flammable compounds into the atmosphere. But along with these advantages, they also have disadvantages: low coverage and insufficient strength of the coating film after drying. Therefore, they are not used for external doors.

To increase the wear resistance of the coating, acrylic paint is additionally coated with a finishing layer of transparent varnish.

Nitro-based varnishes and paints

Nitro compounds are distinguished by their coating strength and rich color palette, which is superior to the range of other materials.

The special mode for applying nitrocellulose-based paints is due to the volatility and toxicity of the solvent. It is recommended to apply the compositions with a spray gun or compressor, as it can be done with a brush glossy surface It’s difficult on a large area: the paint dries literally behind the brush. The toxicity of the solvent is compensated by the short period of evaporation intensity, so the critical period during which staying in the same room with a painted door is not recommended is short.

Important! If to work with alkyd enamels use of funds personal protection(respirator, gloves) are advisory in nature, they must be used when contacting nitro enamels.

Painting a new wooden door

Depending on the quality of the wood and the presence of defects (knots, burrs, gluing), choose the type of coating: transparent or opaque.

IN in this case the paint layer must be carried out according to all the rules, since it, in addition to decorative function, should protect the tree from moisture and prevent seasonal swelling.

Solid wood door blocks

The painting scheme for panel and panel doors is different. A roller is used for the panel door; with its help, a uniform coating is obtained. The transverse and longitudinal direction of movement of the roller alternates from layer to layer.

When painting a paneled door, paint is applied with a roller to flat areas, and brushes are used in the recesses and corners on the margins of the panels. In this case, when performing the next layer, hard-to-reach areas are first painted over, and at the end they are leveled with a roller.

The details of the box are also painted using a brush (quarter) and a roller.

  • First, the door block is completely assembled and hung, after which the fittings are disassembled and twisted, the leaf with the frame parts and trim is laid on a horizontal surface. In this position, you can get a good, even layer of coating without fear of drips.
  • When painting a door for the first time, the first coat is applied as a primer. To do this, the paint is diluted with the same type of solvent so that the liquid composition penetrates as deeply as possible into the pores of the wood.
  • After the primer layer has dried, the raised pile is knocked down with fine sandpaper.
  • The paint is applied in a thin layer, carefully rolling or rubbing it over the surface. Depending on the covering power of the composition, apply 2-4 layers. Before applying the next layer, the previous one must dry completely.

Important! You should not achieve complete painting of the gaps by increasing the thickness of the first layer. Uniform coverage is achieved by applying several thin layers. For each type of paint, their quantity will be different.

Processing with stain and varnish

Paneled doors made of solid wood or high-quality veneer panel sheets varnished. In this case, instead of a primer layer, the surface is treated with stain to give a noble shade.

Before working with the finished stain, shake thoroughly to mix the settled pigments.

Rubbing with a rag

The application method depends on the type of stain chosen:

  • Spraying with a spray bottle. This method is suitable for all types of stains, except wax ones. Spraying is especially convenient for applying water and alcohol stains. These compounds are difficult to apply evenly by hand if you lack the skills. You can get a spotty surface that will have to be covered with dark compounds or even painted over.
  • Rubbing with a rag or sponge. This method is suitable for wax stains. First, apply the stain to the surface with a roller or brush, and then rub it in with force.
  • Application by brush or roller. In this way, surfaces are treated with long-drying stains.

The varnish is applied using the same technology as paint. The difference is that when varnishing it is more difficult to keep track of the gaps and continuity of the created layer.

Painting an old door with frame

Painting old door- a labor-intensive process. First of all, it is worth considering the possibility of removing the canvas from the hinges and twisting the hinges from the box. It is inconvenient to paint the canvas in a vertical position, and the quality of the layer will be worse.

Usually the reason why the fabric cannot be removed from the hinges is the interfering upper casing. If the door block is old, you can take the time to replace the casing completely. The new, even frame of the opening will radically change the appearance of the door block. If there are no such plans, then you should at least try to remove door handles, glass. Carefully sealing the fittings with tape will take a lot of time, and the line separating the new layer of paint from the old one will still turn out to be uneven and give away the handicraft work.

If the old canvas has damage, peeling of veneer, paint, then it can only be properly restored in a horizontal position.

Fabric preparation

The procedure for carrying out restoration work:

  • The removed fabric is cleaned of old paint using a grinder with an abrasive wheel, construction hair dryer or using a wash. The stripper is only effective on thin layers of fresh paint.
  • To remove paint from the box, use a hairdryer, a belt sander (“tank”), and remove old layer using a wide chisel.
  • The peeled veneer is glued using clamps and a flat gasket, and the potholes are filled with putty. Panel door panels can be puttied in a continuous manner, treating the entire surface. Major damage sealed with wooden inserts.
  • After the putty has dried and sealed, the surface of the canvas and box is sanded and primed.

Final painting is carried out in the usual way.

If the door leaf is painted in a vertical position, it will need to be fixed in open position using wedges. To protect the decoration on the walls from accidental paint, cover the opening around the perimeter with tape. When working in vertical mode, it is recommended to carefully monitor the uniformity of the layer and the absence of drips.

Painting with a brush in a vertical position

New brushes should be combed out before use to remove loose fibers. To reduce streaks from bristles, you need to soften them by holding the brush in warm water for several hours.

When working with stain, you need to ensure that individual drops do not fall on clean wood outside the work area. These spots will appear when painting. Therefore, when applying any compositions in a vertical position, work is carried out from the bottom up.

Despite the practicality and ease of caring for plastic windows, many people give their preference to wooden windows. This material has strength, noise insulation, and reduced heat conductivity.

Wood is an environmentally friendly material, so such windows do not emit harmful substances without harming your health. One of the criteria for caring for wood is proper painting. You will never freeze in a wooden house if you take care of it properly.

How to paint wooden windows

To make windows beautiful, you need to know what to paint with, because not every paint applies well and will look attractive. This is especially worth considering with outside, because under the influence of various environmental factors, the paint peels off quickly. Inside the room, constant contact with condensation and temperature changes also makes it unusable.

Important! It should be borne in mind that wood often becomes a substrate for mold, fungi, and various pests.

To prevent this from happening, you need to know the rules for properly painting windows. To get a good result you need to follow simple recommendations:

  • The weather is suitable. After painting, the paint should adhere well to the wooden surface, so you need to choose a day with calm weather conditions without precipitation.
  • For quick drying, the optimal temperature is 5 C and humidity is 80%.
  • If you apply paint to a wet surface, bubbles will soon appear and a new coat will need to be applied.

The painting process itself is carried out in several stages.

Preparatory stage

Due to exposure to external weather influences, thermal insulation can deteriorate greatly. However, before painting, you can get rid of this issue. If the windows are already old and have already dried out, then sealing is needed. This process occurs in several ways:

  • The first method is to apply sealant to the frame and then install the glass there. To do this, you need to get it out first, which causes a lot of inconvenience.
  • The second method is much simpler and involves sealing with regular window putty. But this option is less effective than the first.

Paraffin can be used as a putty. First, it is heated to a liquid consistency, and using a syringe, it is poured directly into the cracks. After the paraffin comes to standard solid state, we remove its excess.

Important! Before painting, you need to make sure that the window closes and opens without any obstacles. If there is a problem, it can be fixed by regular sanding.

Cleaning off old coating

The old layer of paint can be removed using the following methods:

  • Chemical – specialized means Solvents can be purchased at any auto store.
  • The thermal method is carried out using an industrial hair dryer, the air temperature of which should not be higher than 250 C. After drying, remove any remaining paint with a regular spatula or sandpaper.

The doors and other elements must either be removed or covered with newspaper or tape. You also need to take care of the glass. In those places it is necessary to glue a gap of 2 mm from the edge.

Antiseptic treatment and puttying

Next important step- This is an antiseptic treatment. If this is not done, then there is a risk that wooden frames They will not last long, but will become a breeding ground for fungus, mold, and pests.

After the antiseptic has dried, you can begin applying acrylic putty. This process takes place in several layers, starting from thick to thin. This order is necessary for better fixation on the wooden surface, otherwise it will begin to crumble right along with the paint.

Before puttying, it is very important that there are no cracks and various defects. Therefore, you can safely take sawdust, mix it with wood flour or glue and remove errors. The first layer is applied thickly, and then thoroughly sanded, sanded and cleaned. After a few hours, repeat the procedure and continue until the surface is completely smooth so that the windows look well painted.

Priming helps create protection and at the same time becomes an antiseptic. It should be specifically for wooden surfaces.

Preparing the Paint

You need to buy coloring products that meet all the parameters:

Do not allow wood to come into contact with water - this can lead to the formation of mold and mildew. Therefore, it is better to purchase moisture-resistant paint that will protect and prevent water from leaking into deep layers.

Important! It is not allowed to paint platbands and frames with façade perchlorovinyl paints, bituminous varnishes, epoxy enamel, or vinyl paints.

Choosing a color and getting ready to paint

To choose the right color, you must adhere to simple algorithm: “In the shade - any shades, on sunny side- only light ones." Internal slopes and the platbands must be painted with enamel paints, because... they are bright and look good, the outer slopes are oiled.

Before painting the paint, you need to add a drop of solvent. Calculate the amount of paint based on how much material you need to make the wooden surface and trim look painted. For work you should prepare the details:

  • masking tape;
  • paint brush;
  • unnecessary rag;
  • sandpaper;
  • putty;
  • primer;
  • white spirit;
  • dye.

You need to paint in several layers:

  • The first layer is liquid to fill all the errors. Color better with a brush or with a roller.
  • Another layer implies a thicker paint. If there are drops or smudges, they can be removed with a rag.

First the front side is painted. If there are platbands, then they should be given special attention, because... they are home decoration. When everything is painted, all that remains is to remove the tape.

Important! If you need to close the sashes, you need to put foil between the sashes to prevent them from sticking together.

Stain finishing

Wood stain refers to liquid impregnation. It emphasizes beauty and allows you to change the shade. It is especially good to apply to platbands, which gives them a special charm and design flair.

Also among its advantages is that it protects against UV rays and prevents rotting. This impregnation is done with oil or water based. However, there is no way to avoid the disadvantages, because when they are applied, they can leave unsightly stains, because... dry out quickly. Also, for uniform distribution, a spray gun is required, which not everyone has.

If you use a water-based stain, you must be prepared that the wood may deteriorate its qualities, so before processing, first wooden surface You need to wet it and then sand it.

Conclusion

Wooden houses have large number positive qualities, however, they can quickly lose operational functions.
