How to make a built-in wardrobe in the bathroom. A convenient solution is a closet in the toilet above the toilet

Reading time ≈ 3 minutes

As you know, in any apartment there are so-called “difficult zones”. One of them is the toilet, because it is in this room that the complex designs drainage. They always complicate repairs, since hiding them can be quite difficult. Therefore, many people use a special cabinet in the toilet behind the toilet as an alternative. Thus the most serious difficulty is solved.

But choosing it is not as easy as choosing furniture, because it is often a special design. The basis of such a product can be an installation made of plasterboard or any other material. If this option does not suit you, then you can use a regular wall cabinet for the toilet, which can also solve the problem.

How to choose a toilet cabinet?

Of course, in in this case such a closet in the toilet serves as decorative element. It does not always carry a functional load, but only serves as a supplement. Sometimes such a design is equipped with special shelves, and then it becomes more functional. You can store any household chemicals and other necessary things in it.

There are such sanitary cabinets different shapes, which are dictated by certain dimensions of space. Also, color and design may represent non-traditional options. Since it is now very popular to make each room unusual, the toilet is no exception. Therefore, there are many ways.

As already mentioned, there are two main types of such structures, which means you have two ways to resolve the issue.

Let's consider various options

Absolutely every plumbing closet in the toilet is a space that is important to use with maximum benefit. Therefore, you can use different modifications already finished products. Or take a different, more complex path - create built-in cabinets in the toilet.

Both types are considered equally useful and are unique element design. In fact, such a design has become part of the entire interior, so pay attention to how such cabinets can be designed. We offer you several options; the photo shows the most popular ideas that can be used in different apartments and private houses.

In one case, it will be a well-known, but small wall cabinet for the toilet; in another, it will be a more spacious design that will not only allow you to hide all the pipes, but will also become a full-fledged addition.

Depending on the size, this design can be used or exist as closed space. The appearance of any of the options must be designed in accordance with general style. Therefore, as finishing you can use the same color scheme and that material. This means that the cabinet doors can be covered with wallpaper or painted. If it is a one-piece design, then it is purchased exactly to match the overall color palette.

A toilet with a cabinet behind the toilet is not just a bathroom, but a type of pantry: of course, you can’t hide large items here, but the shelves are almost ideal for storing household chemicals, small tools and less-needed utensils.

The obvious advantage of this solution is the fact that you can make a cabinet yourself, using not the most expensive materials and tools that almost every craftsman has. How to do this, and what the cabinet could be like, I will tell you in this article.

Types of cabinets

By optimizing free space (this is especially true in small apartments), we often try to adapt unused areas for storing various small items. One of these areas is the back wall of the bathroom: if there is no boiler placed on it, then it is usually empty.

One of optimal options The use of this wall will be to install a small cabinet there. In principle, this is quite justified: it is still almost impossible to place the toilet close to the load-bearing surface, which means that due to the tank we have a “dead zone” with a depth of about 30–40 cm. This is just enough so that the rack or cabinet does not fit our needs. interfered.

Analyzing the design options for such cabinets, I came to the conclusion that almost all projects can be reduced to two varieties:

  1. Mounted module. This option is preferable if you do not plan to do carpentry work. You just need to buy or order a design according to the size of the bathroom, and then hang it on two anchors driven into the wall. The limiting factor here is the strength of the wall: in some houses the partition between the toilets of neighboring apartments is not very thick, so hanging a heavy structure made of chipboard/MDF will be problematic.

  1. Built-in wardrobe. Since the price of a mounted product can be quite high, many craftsmen prefer not to overpay, but to make the facades themselves. This approach allows us to significantly save on materials: by and large, we will only need shelves and doors, since the niche itself can perfectly cope with the role of side and rear walls.

When planning the reconstruction of the bathroom in my apartment, I proceeded from approximately the same considerations. Looking ahead, I will say that the built-in wardrobe turned out to be quite reliable and functional, so below I will share the recipe for making it.

Manufacturing technology

Design diagram: step 1

The manufacture of a built-in toilet cabinet begins with design. Of course, this product is quite simple, but still its contours need to be sketched out on paper, at least schematically, with approximate dimensions.

In my case, the product looked like this:

  1. The basis was a frame made of wooden beam 30x30 mm. From these parts the front frame was made, onto which the façade parts were attached.
  2. The shelves rested on cross bars fixed to the walls. I made them solid, but in principle, this design can be abandoned either in favor of small wooden blocks or in favor of metal corners.
  3. For long shelves, it is better to make longitudinal guides, as in the image below.

The standard shelf height is from 25 to 35 cm, but you can deviate from these values. For example, I made the distance between the last shelf and the ceiling equal to 55 cm, and this turned out to be very convenient for storing large items.

  1. The front part of the bottom was attached to the lower beam of the frame, the rear - to a support beam fixed to the wall of the toilet. I did not close the structure from above, since I made the cabinet adjacent to the ceiling.
  2. The depth of the cabinet was 35 cm: I selected it in such a way that the closed doors did not interfere with the person sitting on the toilet.
  3. Both the façade and the shelves were made of laminated chipboard 16 mm thick.
  4. Standard furniture hinges were used to secure the façade.

It should be noted that this design is not the only possible one. You can experiment with options: the main thing is that the frame is reliable enough and firmly fixed to the walls of the bathroom.

Basic materials and tools: step 2

As I noted earlier, for the work I chose the most affordable materials. The cabinet turned out to be quite cheap, so in the table below I will show estimated cost raw materials used:

As for the tools, the set included the following items:

  • hammer drill with concrete drill;
  • drill;
  • Forstner drill for fastening furniture hinges;
  • screwdriver with magnetic bit;
  • wood hacksaw;
  • level;
  • roulette;
  • plumb line;
  • hammer;
  • screwdrivers (flat and Phillips).

In principle, to speed up work, you can only add a disk or reciprocating saw, but I have to cut quite a bit, so I managed to handle the hacksaw quite quickly.

Making blanks: step 3

In this section, I will show you how to make all the parts needed to assemble a built-in closet in a toilet. There won’t be many labor-intensive operations here, but they are still present:

  1. Let's start with the simplest thing - making frame elements. First, we measure the height of our cabinet (the lower edge is approximately 25 cm from the lid, the upper edge is under the ceiling), and from a wooden beam we cut out two blanks for the side parts of the front frame.

  1. Next, we measure the width of the niche in which the cabinet will be located, and cut out three fragments of the block - the top and bottom of the front frame plus the rear support bar to which the bottom will be attached.
  2. We select the appropriate depth of the shelves and, in accordance with this size, cut out several pairs of support bars. The lower pair will be intended for attaching the bottom.
  3. We thoroughly sand all the parts, and then impregnate them with either stain or a moisture-proofing compound with antiseptic components - this way we will be sure that the increased humidity of the bathroom will not cause wood to rot.

  1. The next stage is the production of facades. It is necessary to cut two rectangles from a sheet of laminated chipboard, the dimensions of which will correspond to the dimensions of the cabinet. Naturally, we make small gaps on the sides that will allow the doors to open without clinging to the walls.

I ordered chipboard cutting right upon purchase, so I didn’t have to worry about cutting it. This is really an ideal option: yes, you will have to overpay a little, but the parts will be a) even, b) without chips in the lamination and c) exactly in size.

  1. We subject the cut facades to edging: we glue edging tape to the ends of the panels, heating it with an iron. At the same time, the glue melts, and the material reliably covers the cut of the panel, giving it a more aesthetic appearance. appearance and protecting against moisture penetration into the thickness of the chipboard.

  1. We use the same principle to make shelves, only we make a cut at the corners so that they fit snugly against the front frame. We leave the bottom panel without selection. It may also be necessary to make holes in the shelves through which a riser or other pipes will pass.

Now that we have all the details ready, we will begin installing the cabinet indoors.

Cabinet assembly: step 5

It’s better to install the frame for the structure before repairs - this way we won’t have to take care tiles or other finish when drilling. But the facades should be hung at the very end, after tiling the bathroom, otherwise there is a risk of staining or damaging them.

The installation instructions require the following sequence of actions:

  1. First, we attach the frame elements to the walls. To do this, we press each beam against the wall, level it and use a drill and a wood drill to make holes in it. Using a pencil or awl, we mark points for nests in the wall through the holes.
  2. Using a hammer drill, we drill holes in the concrete at the designated points. The optimal depth is about 60 mm, diameter is 6-8 mm.
  3. We hammer a plastic dowel into each nest. We apply the beam and fix it through pre- drilled hole locking screw.
  4. After completing the assembly of the frame, we place it on the side guide shelves. They can be left without fasteners, or they can be fixed with two or three screws on each side.

  1. We attach a panel to the bottom of the frame, which we fasten with self-tapping screws around the perimeter.
  2. In the facades we use a Forstner drill round holes for installing hinges. We install the hinges in the grooves and fix them with self-tapping screws. We attach the mating parts of the hinges to the side posts of the front frame.

  1. We install small handles on the front part of the facades.
  2. We hang the facades by inserting hinges into the mating parts and adjusting them by rotating the fastening screws.
  3. To make the cabinet look as attractive as possible, fragments of wooden beams protruding beyond the edge of the facades can be covered with vinyl film in the color of the lamination of the doors themselves.

Conclusion

Make simple shelves in the toilet behind the toilet with your own hands, and even make a full-fledged closet with doors - the so-called secret room- a task quite feasible even for a beginner carpentry. Still, you should take it on only after studying the tips above and watching the video in this article.

If you still have questions, feel free to ask them in the comments, and I will be happy to provide you with necessary consultation or I’ll tell you how best to cope with this or that task.

If you want to express gratitude, add a clarification or objection, or ask the author something - add a comment or say thank you!

Problems often arise with storage space for household chemicals. All sorts of powders, cleaners, rinses... There are more and more of them, but there is usually nowhere to store them. The bathroom is too humid, the kitchen is not very pleasant, as they can spread extraneous aromas, which do not combine well with cooking, or rather, do not combine at all. However, there is a way out - a closet in the toilet. Although the toilet is usually a small room, you can find free space in it - above or behind the toilet. This is exactly where you can hang/install the toilet cabinet.

What material is it made from?

When you decide to make a closet for your toilet, the question immediately arises of what material to make it from. If we talk about furniture, there are the following options:

  • (LDSP);
  • laminated;
  • wood.

The cheapest material in this category is chipboard. MDF is four times more expensive and wood is even more expensive. If you assemble doors from edged boards or do-it-yourself linings, it may not be more expensive than MDF. But such work requires at least minimal carpentry skills. If it is not there, you will have to pay for the work of a specialist, which can significantly increase the final cost of the product.

If you are going to tile the cabinet, cover it with wallpaper, vinyl, plastic, you can use materials other than those listed above:

  • plywood;
  • GVL (gypsum fiber sheet);
  • sheet MDF.

All of the materials listed are quite suitable for constructing a cabinet in the toilet. The only doubt may be about the GVL: will it crumble at the place where the hinges are attached? If large loads are not expected, it is quite possible to use this material.

Frosted glass and mirror too possible options fronts for the closet in the toilet

Now the question is whether it is worth using moisture-resistant materials. The closet in the toilet can be made from ordinary material, provided that it is only a toilet and not a combined bathroom, i.e. high humidity there will be no indoors. The exception is the situation when it is done using a flow window through the toilet. Such schemes still exist in houses with old layouts. In all other situations, the use of moisture-resistant materials is optional.

False wall and niche

In most apartments, the toilet is a narrow and long room. Its width is about a meter, length - two meters or more. Such a long room is inconvenient to use - the area up to the door is still not used in any way. The situation can be improved by installing a false wall. In this case, the toilet can be moved forward and separated by a partition of 50-60 cm. The remaining space is more than enough for comfort, and the one that is “behind the wall” can be used as a closet.

Sewer and water risers will be hidden behind this false wall, which otherwise will have to be closed with special ones. The space behind the toilet does not need to be sewn up tightly. Here you can make a very spacious closet. It can store powders, stocks of other chemicals, which are usually difficult to find a place.

To install the device, you will have to move the toilet forward, nail strips to the walls and ceiling (40*40 mm will be quite normal), and fill in horizontal strips that will hold the shelves. The doors for such a closet in the toilet are attached directly to the walls. Or rather, to the planks that are fixed to the wall.

The strip is needed with a width of 8 cm. Since it will be visible when the doors are open, it is advisable that it be trimmed with the same material as the doors. It is attached to the wall with nails/screws/dowels, and hinges are attached to it.

Closet in the toilet from floor to ceiling (or almost)

The cabinet for the toilet room can be a separate piece of furniture. It has a distinctive design that cannot be confused with anything else. At the bottom of the toilet cabinet there are two narrow and high cabinets, which stand at a distance of 50-60 cm from each other. Above them there are one or two sections with or without doors. These are already solid sections with hinged doors.

Different executions, same idea - maximum use of all available space

The parameters of these cabinets depend on the dimensions of the room. You will not see such products in stores, only individual orders. The same laminated chipboard will not be too expensive, and there is plenty of space for storing chemicals.

There are models that are more economical in terms of space use: in the lower part there are only rack stops, open and closed shelves located above the toilet cistern.

The option presented above is good when the load-bearing capacity of the walls is insufficient to withstand conventional wall shelves. If you have a partition made of plasterboard, porous or lightweight concrete, you can look in this direction.

Wall cabinets

Above the toilet you can hang a regular wall cabinet of suitable width and height. This could be part kitchen set or part of the hallway. Anytime modular collection you can find a suitable sample. You just have to cut it out back wall holes for sewer and water risers, but this modification is not difficult.

Wall cabinet above the toilet: heights and fronts are different...

If you are concerned that the exposed cut may be damaged by moisture, you can take self-adhesive melamine and apply it to the cuts. A simpler option is painting or coating with a water-repellent sealant.

The height of the cabinet above the toilet may vary. As you can see in the photo above, the models can be hung on two or three shelves (total height is about 70 cm) or on five to seven shelves (total height is a meter or more). The most important condition is the closet should not overlap vent . The second point: it should not interfere. That is, there should be access to the flush button, and while sitting on the toilet you should not hit your head on the door. Based on these considerations, the sizes are selected. wall cabinet to the toilet. Since the parameters of the toilet bowl, cistern and installation of the entire structure are different, the depth of the cabinet can be from 35 to 60 cm.

What are the doors made of?

If you decide to make a closet for the toilet yourself, making shelves is usually not a problem: two parallel planks are placed on the walls, and shelves are laid on them. Instead of slats, you can install furniture shelf holders - they are available different sizes and forms are installed simply. A hole is drilled in the wall into which the extended part of the holder is inserted. This is one type. The second is brackets that are attached to the wall. In general, there are usually no problems in this part.

But there may be questions about what and how to make the doors. The easiest way is to order a facade the right size V furniture workshop. It is better to order together with the strips to which these doors will be attached. You can also ask for hinges to be cut in. Then installing them will be simple: screw them to the wall and that’s it. Possible materials facades: laminated chipboard, LMDF, plastic, aluminum + glass or aluminum + plastic.

There is an option - to make doors from sheet material and cover them with the same tiles that were placed on the walls. This is in case you don't want the cabinet to stand out. You can also stick a mosaic of a suitable shade, use flexible tiles (plastic sheets under the tiles), stick washable wallpaper, paintable glass wallpaper, etc. There are actually a lot of options.

The rational use of bathroom space largely determines the level of its comfort, and the aesthetic component is important for making the room cozy and attractive. A plumbing element such as a toilet cabinet helps achieve these goals. If such a product is present, using the toilet will be as convenient as possible.

The bathroom is one of the most important rooms in the house, and mistakes in its arrangement can affect the comfort of life. To improve the ergonomic characteristics of this space, it is worth choosing functional, beautiful, durable cabinets for the toilet.

Furniture of this type has a huge number of advantages and allows you to solve many important issues when arranging a bathroom:

  • veiled communications (sewage and water pipes), you can give the room an attractive, neat look. Exposed pipes can hardly be called beautiful, and their design rarely fits well into an apartment. Therefore, you should not ignore them. By choosing the right locker, you will be able to get to communications at any time without any difficulties, which is extremely important in the event of a breakdown;
  • By choosing a spacious model, you can provide yourself with additional space for storing household chemicals and cleaning items. If you divide the space inside the product into an area for pipes and shelves, you can save a decent amount of bathroom space. This is especially important when the room has small sizes, as, for example, in Khrushchev buildings;
  • if there is a water meter, it can also be hidden in the toilet cabinet. This way, you will provide yourself with hassle-free access to the equipment, but hide it behind the facade of the furniture for greater interior aesthetics.

Such furniture has a lot of advantages, it is for this reason that it is so popular among owners these days country houses and apartments. But they reveal themselves to the maximum if a quality product is purchased.

Product options

Modern toilet cabinets are very diverse in terms of operational parameters and appearance, so the consumer can easily choose a model in any style, depending on the decor of the bathroom of a specific size and color.

Let us describe the most popular types of toilet cabinets. According to the type of doors they distinguish plumbing products With:

  • two types of louvered doors: roller shutters and “pseudo-blinds”. The first option is convenient for a small bathroom due to its compactness. The door does not swing open, which requires additional space, but folds upward. Therefore, blind models can be hung in awkwardly shaped places. The second option is a regular facade, made in the form of blinds, but without movable slats. This door allows the interior contents of the furniture to be perfectly ventilated;
  • a plumbing hatch that covers a niche with pipes. In practice, the hatch is a regular frame made from a corner, onto which a metal door with a lock is mounted using hinges. Note that such a solution will not be expensive, but the hatch does not always look stylish and expensive;
  • hinged facades - such structures are best made to order. They are varied in design, size, functional and practical;
  • compartment doors - this design does not require additional space to open the door, since it simply slides behind the second facade.

Based on the material of manufacture, models are distinguished from:

  • natural wood is an expensive, beautiful, durable material. But it is worth remembering that when combining a bathroom and a toilet, the service life of a wooden cabinet may be reduced. Increased level air humidity will negatively affect the quality of surfaces
  • MDF - the cost of MDF structures falls into the average category, but under the influence of water the material may lose its shape;
  • Chipboard is the most undesirable option for a combined toilet with a bathtub, since chipboard quickly absorbs moisture from the air and swells. But for the isolated toilet chipboard is ideal option in terms of cost and external aesthetics;
  • plastic is the most practical option, since plastic is not at all afraid high humidity. But the appearance of plastic models is not always aesthetically pleasing. This is rather a budget option.

Wooden

Plastic

Glass

Based on the shape of the product, cabinets are distinguished:

  • rectangular - standard products that are selected for the bathroom more often than others;
  • corner triangular - fit perfectly into the space of the corner, which allows you to plan it rationally;
  • corner trapezoidal - more spacious than the triangular model;
  • radius - have an unusual design, but are quite expensive.

Placement methods

If sewer pipe runs in a niche, it is worth choosing a standard rectangular or square cabinet in the toilet behind the toilet. This perfect solution, allowing you to make communications attractive. The main thing is to guess the size of the model so that it fits well into the niche. If you want to save money, you can not buy a ready-made cabinet, but choose a hatch with a lock, which can be used to close the niche with pipes.

If the pipes are concentrated in the corner of the room, then you should opt for a corner cabinet model. Such designs are characterized by high capacity, and their design will give the toilet a pleasant look.

Additional features

In small bathrooms, it is extremely important to provide all pieces of furniture with high functionality and practicality, so that using the room is as convenient as possible at any time of the day. It should not be forgotten that the design small space also affects its comfort. Therefore, cabinet models in the toilet must have additional functions. This product is shown in the photo in the selection.

How to choose the right one

If the design of the bathroom has been chosen, all that remains is to choose one for it suitable model closet When choosing a mini-sized toilet cabinet, it is important to remember the following:

  • Initially, you need to decide on the choice of product shape. If there is a niche, choose built-in models to order; if not, you can choose more affordable, ready-made models;
  • Next, take measurements of the space to understand what size cabinet will fit well into the bathroom. It is also necessary to measure the parameters of the pipes that will be hidden in the cabinet. Be sure to sketch out the features of their location before going to the furniture store;
  • select current color scheme and the design of a sanitary element that will perfectly complement the decor of the bathroom;
  • ask the seller for a quality certificate for the product, which will guarantee the long service life of the furniture, its practicality, high quality materials used during its manufacturing process. It is also important to check the availability of fasteners and other components. If the model does not come with a bracket or hardware, you will have to purchase such fasteners separately. They will allow installation of the structure on a wall surface.

Remember, the cabinets in the toilet, photos of which are presented below, should be in harmony with the decoration of the room and complement it with their beauty. Then the room will look laconic and holistic.

The toilet is an important part of the home, which should also be comfortable and tidy. The arrangement of the toilet consists not only of finishing the walls, ceiling and floor, but also of organizing the space. To properly distribute free space, you can equip shelves that will not only create special atmosphere V small room, but will also contain necessary, useful things. But how to make shelves in the toilet with your own hands? Let's try to figure it out.

Advantages of shelves in the toilet

If there is a sink in the toilet, then the shelves will be very convenient for placing various containers with household chemicals. Girls will definitely find use for the shelves that are located near the sink and mirror. If the shelves are equipped with special holes, you can place some hair care equipment in such places: hair dryer, curling iron, tongs.

If the interior of your apartment is made in classic style, then the design of the toilet with shelves should be made using classic decorative elements. You can place old books or figurines on the shelves. The main thing is to ensure that the shelves are always in order.

If there is a lot of space in the toilet, then you can make a whole system of shelves located along three walls. Pots with flowers will enliven the boring interior of the toilet. In this case, the toilet must have a window. Shelves in the toilet can be made climbing species plants.

Purchased shelf option

The stores offer a large assortment of corner and classic shelves of all sizes and colors. The most inexpensive option considered a system of shelves made of plastic. Such shelves are quite practical, but their appearance leaves much to be desired. Over time, the plastic loses its appearance and becomes stained, which is very difficult to clean. Scratches and abrasions make plastic shelves on the wall in the toilet unusable quickly enough.

Metal chrome shelves are a good option for a toilet. They do not look bulky and give the interior of the toilet some zest. The remaining parts of the room can also be decorated with the addition of chrome elements. The price of such shelves is a little higher, but it is quite affordable for the average resident of Russia.

Store-bought glass shelves are very difficult to find. If your toilet does not have any pipes that come from neighboring apartments, and the wall space is empty and flat, then you can use purchased glass shelves.

Drywall is a universal material that allows you to create entire niches with shelves. You can make rounded shapes or corner designs. To form a frame, which will then be sheathed with sheets of plasterboard, use metal profile. It will not be difficult to assemble such a structure with your own hands. In the photo, the shelves in the toilet are made of plasterboard and painted with white paint.

The first step is to draw up a detailed project for the future design of the shelves. Using a profile, we build a frame. The joints of the profiles are secured using special staples. We cut the drywall and attach it to the frame.

The next step will be finishing the product. We level the surface of the niche itself and the shelves using putty. Use a silicone spatula to distribute the mixture. We are waiting for the putty to dry completely. Next, carefully sand the surface of the shelves with fine-grained sandpaper. You should get perfectly even shelves.

Wooden shelves

It's not at all difficult to do. The main thing is to use good, even and fresh material. The photo shows shelves in the toilet made of solid wood covered with stain. The boards must be free of stains, knots and deformations. Before starting construction, treat all lumber. You can go through the electric planer several times or grinder. Achieve a perfectly smooth surface.

Treat the boards with an antiseptic and coat them with several layers of varnish. If you do not want the surface to be glossy, you can use a special matte varnish. To give the wood an elite shade, we use stain. It will be absorbed into the wood, but will leave the texture and pattern of the cut visible.

To give the wood an aging effect, you can use gas burner. The fire will highlight the cut rings in a dark color. After firing, the surface must be cleaned.

When the wood is prepared, you can begin installing the shelves. It is more convenient to attach them to furniture corners or wooden corners.

Chipboard shelves

Chipboard is the most popular material for furniture production in Russia. The reason for this popularity is that chipboard sheets are relatively cheap, and thanks to the laminated surface, you can use any color and texture when making furniture.

For self-made you will need the sheets themselves, which have a laminated surface on both sides. The side cuts of the parts are processed with an edge; it can be glued using a regular iron. The cut is made circular saw. The cuts are even and smooth.

Euroscrews or self-tapping screws are used as fastenings. The method of fastening depends on the type of shelf construction. If you plan to connect two sheets of chipboard at an angle, then we use Euroscrews. To attach the shelf supports we use self-tapping screws.

Chipboard shelves look neat. This material will last a long time if the humidity in the toilet is low. For shelves, you can use sheets 1.5 cm thick.

OSB shelves

OSB boards differ from chipboard boards in that their strength level is several tens of times higher. The OSB board is impregnated with a resin composition, which protects the surface from getting wet and absorbing moisture.

Cutting parts from this lumber is easy. You can use a jigsaw or circular saw. It will not be possible to cut out the carved elements; the material crumbles.

The surface of the OSB board has a peculiar pattern, which can not be masked under several layers of paint, but can be highlighted by covering it with stain or varnish. The design will be very strong and durable. The edges of the cuts can be treated with putty.

If you want to get a smooth, perfectly flat surface, then it is better to take a different material for making shelves. The surface of OSB boards is coated with a resin solution to preserve the moisture resistance of the material. The putty will quickly peel off from such a surface.

Shelves made of metal and glass

Metal shelf holders in combination with glass shelves are suitable for decorating any room, including the toilet. Glass will give the effect of free space without the effect of clutter.

Metal processing will require you to have certain knowledge in this area and the availability special equipment. Fastening places metal parts connected by a welding machine.

The thickness of the glass must be at least 6 mm. The edge is carefully processed and polished. If you do not have special equipment, then it is better to order all the glass from a glass workshop.

It is better to choose shelf mounts with suction cups. This way you won’t have to make holes in the glass, and the shelves will hold tightly. There should be a sufficient number of suction cups. The entire glass area must have uniform supports that distribute the total mass among themselves.

Plywood shelves

Plywood is compressed lumber. Thin layers of veneer are glued together until the required sheet thickness is formed. To make shelves, you can use sheets from 6-10 mm. If you decide to build a shelf for your phone in the toilet, then 4 mm thick plywood will do.

If you want to give your shelves an unusual curve, then plywood is the material you need. Not only can you cut from a sheet various shapes, but also make carvings, a variety of patterns. The edges will remain even and smooth.

The sawn blanks can be coated with several layers of varnish or stain. If desired, you can use interior paint. It is also applied in several layers.

Shelves can be mounted on metal shelf holders, this is the most convenient option. Self-tapping screws of the required length are used as fasteners.

Shelves above the toilet

The area of the wall, which is located at the edges of the toilet cistern, in most cases is not used in any way. To make this space useful, it is necessary to place a system of shelves on which all kinds of toiletries and interior accessories will be stored. The shelf above the toilet in the toilet will not interfere if it is not made too deep.

The shelves above the toilet have another very significant function- masking of water supply and sewerage pipes. The upper shelves can be left open, and small doors can be made on the lower ones. IN apartment buildings A wide sewer pipe runs directly to the toilet. In order to hide it, you can use any of the materials listed above.

The shelves above the toilet and along its edges will look more attractive if you lay out neatly folded towels in the right colors and arrange scented candles, figurines. The main thing is that the composition looks like a single whole.

Shelf lighting

Spot lighting can be used as illumination. Small round lampshades are easily mounted in chipboard, OSB or plasterboard. A small border is made above the topmost shelf. Behind it you can hide the wiring that will extend from the lamps.

An interesting lighting option is obtained by using LED strips. To connect them, you must use a special converter - a 12 or 24 W power supply. The choice of power supply depends on the type of tape. Currently there is LED strips, which even connect to alternating current from the socket.

The tape pieces are attached with their sticky side to the bottom surface of the shelves and connected to each other by wires. Switch LED lighting you can take it to a place convenient for you. If you use a motion sensor, then it will light up automatically when someone enters. All these interesting little things are impressive when they are arranged in a room such as a toilet.

Shelves with doors

It is not necessary to leave the shelves with the items on them for everyone to see. You can close the space with doors. Material for door leaf should be easy. For this purpose the best option there will be plywood. You can take thin sheets, since the door area is small.

We will fasten the doors using furniture hinges. There is another option: we attach guides to the shelves below and above, and make holes in the doors or screw small handles. The sliding doors are ready.

You can stick an element of photo wallpaper on the surface of the doors or paint the plywood in a color that will match the rest of the interior. An excellent decorative option would be decoupage. It is not necessary to use classic elements with flowers and ornaments, you can do modern design, for example, in pop art style.
