How to make a chair from wood with your own hands: drawings and dimensions, plus assembly instructions and explanations for working with lumber. Do-it-yourself chair - step-by-step instructions for creating upholstered furniture

Furniture can be made not only from boards, but also from any available material. The only question is how strong, reliable and durable it will be. Let's look at how to make cardboard, wine corks, hoop and thread.

Bottle chair

The chair needs identical bottles (do not remove the lids). We make modules out of them to make the furniture durable. For one module you will need three bottles. One bottle should be whole, cut the remaining two into two unequal parts (the top should be smaller). Now insert the top with the cork down into the second half. Place the whole bottle on top. Cover it with the second half of the third bottle. Rewind the section of the module with tape.

Now fasten two or four modules together with tape or packing tape. You need to collect as much as you need for the chair. To understand which blocks need to be formed, fold the modules into the shape of a chair with armrests, and then tie them together.

For example, you connect the armrests, back, and bottom separately, and then fasten all the parts together. Don't skimp on packing tape, as the bottles shouldn't move around.

Instead of plastic bottles you can take iron cans from baby formula and make a chair. As soon as the body is ready, cover it with foam rubber. Separately sew the cushions for the seat and back of the chair. Attach them to the foam rubber. Cover with furniture fabric. Now you can cut the cape and decorate the chair. If you make the body motionless, the furniture can last for several years.

Hanging chair

For this model you will need an iron circle (hoop), a polyester cord (thickness 5 mm, length 900 meters), hook No. 9, gymnastic ring, hook. Try to use the longest cord possible, as the knots may unravel over time under the pressure of the weight.

Crochet a “seat” to the size of the hoop. Any napkin pattern or pattern will work, even a simple arched grid. Please note that the bottom will sag under weight. Therefore, if you want a hard chair, the napkin should be smaller in size than the hoop. That is, we pull the bottom onto the base. You can not knit the seat, but use macrame to make a hanging chair with your own hands.

Next you need to knit or weave the top. To do this, weave a small piece of cords (the number depends on the weight of the person, and the length depends on the height of the ceiling), and pull it through the mount. You begin to expand the knitting, weaving the cords together. After 20 centimeters you braid the gymnastics ring. In this case, distribute all the cords into an even number, and fill the remaining space with other polyester pieces.

Continue weaving all the cords together, forming the back of the chair (reminiscent of a tent). Next, use the same cords to braid the hoop. Therefore, the segments must be long and the fastening must be reliable. In fact, the chair is ready, but for beauty you can tie the bottom a little and decorate it with fringe.

How to make a chair with your own hands from papier-mâché

This model requires a lot of time to make, but the result is worth it. This chair is suitable for babies. You need to take a large one, inflate it, place it in a bag, and attach a cardboard round bottom to the bottom with tape (the “pipe” is on top).

Next, cover the ball with newspapers, wallpaper using wallpaper glue and PVA. To make it easier to cover the ball, place it with the tip down in the basin. The process is the same as when making papier-mâché: glue the first layer and leave it to dry. This is how you need to glue until the thickness reaches one centimeter.

Next, turn the ball over and lower it. make an oval shape (it looks like a shell). Now all that's left to do is easy chair with your own hands. Take a blanket, blanket, foam rubber or other filler. Using a construction stapler, secure the fabric to the body on all sides.

Lastly, upholster the body. decorative fabric. You sew a seat cushion, cover it with the same material and insert it into the chair. Attach wheels to the bottom. It turned out soft Baby chair for babies. The backrest and armrests may not support adults.

Bag chair

You can sew a bean bag chair for children. Not only professional seamstresses can make it with their own hands. For this you will need patterns. They can be of any shape, but the most popular is pear-shaped with an oval end. Make patterns twice - on raincoat and upholstery fabric.

It is undesirable to use lining fabric for the inside, since it will unravel under the weight of the weight. It is better to buy raincoat material, it is durable and waterproof. This is especially important if there are small children.

Sew the patterns together and fill them with special foam balls. Do this outside or in the garage as they are magnetic, stick to your hands and fly off in different directions. The result is an inner bag. Now you sew a cover from the same nine patterns (six wedges, one top and two halves of the bottom), only sew a zipper to the bottom or between two wedges. As you can see, it’s not difficult to make a bean bag chair with your own hands.

It is impossible to predict which shape is best for a sitter. Only with your first experience will you be able to understand how many granules you need to pour, what fabric to use, what patterns you should have.

How to make a rocking chair with your own hands from cardboard

Cardboard, when folded correctly, creates durable material, capable of supporting an adult man. There are several options for making a cardboard chair.

Tire chair

If there are two car tires, a piece of felt, dense and thin foam rubber, flexible plywood, then you can do garden furniture. So, how to make a chair with your own hands from tires:

  • wash and dry the wheels;
  • put the tires on top of each other;
  • fasten them together with self-tapping screws;
  • cover the top with felt;
  • fasten it with a construction stapler;
  • cut off the excess felt;
  • turn the wheels over;
  • According to the size of the tire, cut out two circles from dense and thin foam rubber;
  • insert a thick piece into the wheel;
  • cover the top with a thin circle;
  • cut out another circle from thin foam rubber that covers the entire tire;
  • secure the material with a stapler;
  • screw the flexible plywood with self-tapping screws;
  • Wrap the resulting backrest on both sides with thin foam rubber;
  • fasten the material with a stapler;
  • sew a cover that covers the entire chair;
  • put it on.

It is better to sew the cover from thick fabric with padding polyester lining. If the chair will be in the house, then upholster the entire body with fabric, then put on a cover.

Hammock chair

A hammock chair that will be loved by both adults and children is suitable for a dacha or balcony. To do this you will need a thick stick, thick fabric, cords, belts, and fastenings. Cut out a rectangle from the fabric (its size depends on the parameters of the person sitting). Sew it in half if the fabric is not very thick, or just finish the edges.

Sew the straps along the width of the rectangle. Drill two holes at the stick and thread the cords with the fastening. Attach the straps gathered into a bundle to it using clamps. Hang the hammock from the ceiling. There is another way to make a child seat with your own hands.

Weave cords using the macrame technique or crochet a long and wide rectangle. Tie strap handles on the sides and tie them around the stick. Also secure the cords with the fastening. The result is a mesh hammock. Now sew a mattress and a cover for the chair. Form hanging chair could be anyone. The main thing is that the material is solid, without cuts (that is, the seat is made of solid fabric or long cords).

Conclusion

There are many ways to make a chair with your own hands. It can be bottles, cans, cardboard, newspaper tubes, car tires, fabric, threads, boards, plywood, boxes. By appearance no worse than a store-bought one, it will decorate any interior.

Make yourself comfortable. On a cult chair. And contemplate the beauty of nature. The Adirondack chair is a symbol of luxurious and comfortable country life. You don't even have to buy it - now you can do it wooden chair for the cottage and home with your own hands!

Furniture as a cult: the legendary Adirondack chair

Sitting on an Adirondack chair, American fishermen slowly fish from the Hudson River, sitting on it, drinking cool cocktails in Haiti, businessmen tired of the hustle and bustle, European aristocrats reclining in this chair, enjoying the sunset on the Cote d'Azur. And so it has been for more than 110 years.

Today, this comfortable chair is used all over the world, but only those who know its history stroke the wood of its wide armrests with special trepidation and admire its thoughtful design.

One day back in 1903, a certain Thomas Lee went on vacation to a beautiful place in the Adirondack Mountains in New York State. While enjoying life in a summer house surrounded by nature, he one day realized that... comfortable chair he doesn't have enough. So that you can take it to the river or just sit near the house. So that there is somewhere to put a cup of coffee or a glass, so that you can sit in it with a pillow more comfortably and for a long time. And he made himself such a chair... from 11 rough boards found in the barn.

When his friend, a local carpenter, saw this simple furniture, he appreciated it. And even in 1905, he quietly received a patent and put the chair into production, and for the next 20 years he sold comfortable dark brown and green chairs throughout the country. Gradually, the Adirondack began to be copied all over the world.

Jokes aside, interior designers today continue to admire this chair. Reinterpreted designer models of the same “Adirondack” from Gino Levi-Montalcini, Gerrit Rietveld and many other designers are known.

Today we will try to make an Adirondack chair with our own hands!

To make a designer chair for a summer house, you will need

Prepare materials and tools:

  • boards 6 meters: thickness 25 mm, width 14 or 15 cm - 2-3 pcs.;
  • wood screws 40 mm - packaging;
  • wood screws 70 mm (for perpendicular connection of boards) - packaging;
  • drill;
  • drill ∅ 3 mm;
  • screwdriver;
  • carpentry clamps (preferably);
  • square;
  • roulette;
  • meter ruler.

It’s great if you have a jigsaw, a circular saw and an electric plane at home, but if you rarely do carpentry work, just order a cut from a workshop (often such workshops operate at construction supermarkets).

As for the boards, everything is very conditional: you can make everything from the same ones, or you can take a board 1.5-2 cm thick for the back and seat, but for the legs and lower crossbars you can take boards up to 7 cm thick. You can generally take boards from old pallets.

When cutting, sometimes you have to cut out a lot of knots - in this case, you will need a little more wood. In a word, just show the drawing below in the workshop and tell us about your wishes for the final look. And of course, if the boards are not planed, ask for them to be planed and chamfered: you should take home smooth, beautiful details.

Wooden chair: cutting and installation

There are now many variations on the theme of the Adirondack chair. We chose the simplest basic model.

In the drawing, the lower supporting beams are made with a bend, but for simplicity you can cut them out as solid parts.

Let's start assembling. To prevent the boards from cracking, before screwing in the screws, you need to drill holes for them with a drill: a 3 mm drill. We screw in the screws, you can also coat them with universal sealant glue - very convenient. At the assembly stage, it is better to use clamps or call someone to help you.

In order not to confuse you with long descriptions of which part to screw to which, here is a video:

Here the installation is shown in detail in a little more complex model with a curved seat and a rounded back, but the assembly principle is the same. Play the video several times and repeat the sequence.

All that remains is to properly sand the wood and paint it.

Armchairs, as well as other furniture that can be used both indoors and outdoors, are very comfortable. To make it last as long as possible, follow 3 rules:

  1. If the furniture will be used near water or in a humid climate (for example, you have a summer house by the sea), choose fine-pored wood: larch, oak, as well as the resistant heartwood of coniferous wood (). In drier climates, you can use other types of wood, or even use beech and hornbeam for shipping pallets and crates.
  2. If you want to either display the tree outside or sit in it in the house, it would be ideal to cover it with azure for external and interior works Belinka Tophybrid, Toplasur is also quite suitable. If you want to completely paint over the wood structure and give it a bright color, use Email Universal paint.
  3. Remember that if the tree is exposed to moisture (street, wet room), it must be covered with an antiseptic primer. If the furniture is always in the living room, nursery or bedroom, primer is not needed.

Ready!

That's it: place a couple of small pillows on the chair, pour lemonade into a glass and enjoy nature in comfort!

It’s true what they say: the Internet is a treasure trove useful information. People share valuable knowledge here and original ideas, opening up more and more new perspectives for each other.

A person without experience or skills gets a unique opportunity to organize for himself furniture manufacturing at home. There are many detailed master classes with ready-made diagrams who will help you make any furniture, whether you have the necessary tools and a penchant for the craft.

Of course, you should start with simple projects, like the one presented in this master class. Anna White, a well-known craftswoman in narrow circles, has prepared for everyone detailed instructions, which talks about how to make a simple chair from boards for your home or terrace with your own hands.

When finished, it comes complete with stylish pillows. You can also make them yourself. Anna will briefly tell us about this too.

In this project you can use the simplest lumber that does not require processing. milling machine and production of complex groove joints.

Gather your materials and prepare everything you need before you begin. You will need:

Materials:
1. pine board 50 mm thick:
- 4 pcs x 50 x 100 x 550 mm - leg parts;
- 2 pcs x 50 x 100 x 810 mm - armrest parts;
- 6 pcs x 50 x 150 x 710 mm - side trim parts;
- 2 pcs x 30 x 30 x 710 mm - slats for seat parts;
- 4 pcs x 50 x 150 x 620 mm - back parts and lower part of the front panel;
- 2 pcs x 50 x 100 x 620 mm - upper part of the back and upper part of the front panel;
- 5 pcs x 50 x 100 x 620 mm - seat parts.
2. glue for woodworking;
3. furniture screws;
4. stain or protective and decorative oil for wood processing and tinting;
5. furniture varnish with a transparent coating or varnish toner.

Tools:

- a circular saw or a miter saw for cutting boards;
- sander;
- electric drill;
- screwdriver;
- paint brushes;
- soft fabric lint free for oil;
- construction tape and square;
- pencil.

Step one: detailing and marking parts

When deciding on the final dimensions of the chair, the author proceeded from the dimensions of the seat and pillows for it. The seat is an even square with sides of 620 mm. If you want to change the dimensions of the chair, all the dimensions indicated in the master class will have to be recalculated.

Otherwise, take advantage of these great detailed diagrams and write down on paper all the details that you will need for the job. Specify Exact size every detail. You can find a list of them in the list of materials for this master class.

Before you begin, make sure that all your boards are planed to the same thickness, otherwise the finished chair will look like a typical artisanal piece. This processing of boards is carried out using a surface planer. As a last resort, you can order it from a workshop, but it is better to initially select properly processed lumber.

Mark the parts of the chair using a pencil and a square. Square - especially useful tool, if you plan to cut the boards by hand using a hacksaw.

Step two: making parts from boards

You will need thick boards 50 mm thick, but of different widths: 100 and 150 mm. In addition, prepare a rail no narrower than 30 mm for making parts of the base for the seat.

Cut the board into pieces of the required length using miter saw or a manual circular saw. Both of these tools allow you to make perfectly straight cuts, which is very important when making furniture.

If you are using hand saw on wood, be prepared for the fact that the cuts will have to be adjusted by hand for neat tight joints.

Sand all the parts in any way convenient for you. For example, an electric sander. For sanding pine, a piece of block with sandpaper attached to it will do. True, such work will take much more time.

Step three: assembling the wooden chair

Attach the trim pieces to the legs at intervals of approximately 20 mm. Pre-drill holes in the places where the screws will be screwed in to prevent the boards from splitting.

If you want the chair to serve you for a long time, use glue. In this case, apply a little wood glue to the joint, press the parts together and tighten the screw or self-tapping screw.

Fix the armrest on each of the side panels and connect the side panels to each other with the upper part of the backrest. Please note that along the inside of the chair all the upholstery parts are located flush with the frame, and along the outer contour they are somewhat recessed inward.

Insert your working strip into the gap between the side panels, place the upper part of the backrest in its proper place and secure it with screws. Screw the remaining back elements.

On the front panel, secure at the bottom wide board, and at the top - narrow by 100 mm. Sew up the seat and to complete the assembly, secure the top back piece, placing it flat.

Try to screw in the screws in the same vertical line to make the job look neater.

After some time has passed, when the chairs have already been tested in everyday life, the author advises fastening the seat parts in such a way that the seat itself is positioned at a slight angle. This will make sitting much more comfortable. The same can be said about the back of the chair.

Step four: wood processing

It is convenient because it allows you to easily apply the composition and repeat this procedure at any time in order to refresh the product. In this case, all preparation of the surface for re-painting comes down to light sanding by hand with sandpaper.

You can also use alcohol stain in combination with several layers of furniture varnish or, say, natural drying oil.

Apply the stain with a brush along the grain and try not to touch already painted areas again, otherwise the tone will be uneven.

A good alternative is also a decorative toner oil, which not only imitates valuable wood species, but also protects the wood from rot, mold and fungi, as well as from exposure to moisture.

You can varnish the chair with matte furniture varnish in order to extend its service life. Do not use varnishes on water based, since they do not have a sufficient level of strength and wear out quickly.

Apply the varnish in several layers, sanding each previous layer as soon as it hardens. Use fine grain for this. sandpaper, and do the grinding itself carefully, without much pressure. There is no need to sand the final coat of varnish.

Step five: finishing touch

Such simple furniture like this wooden chair, it needs beautiful textiles. The author used ready-made furniture pillows with floral patterns.

However, you can make pillows with your own hands. To do this, you will need foam rubber (preferably furniture grade, high-strength), batting or thin foam rubber to give the pillows shape and additional volume, as well as strong threads, suitable fabric and a sewing machine.

Cut the thick foam into pieces of the size you need. IN in this case into squares with sides 600 mm. Wrap them in one or two layers of thin foam or batting. Attach the fabric and determine on the spot how much you will need to sew the covers.

You can also make the covers in advance according to the pattern and, based on their size and shape, prepare the filler.

If you plan to wash the covers and always keep the pillows clean, sew the covers from simple thick fabric and make a removable set with zippers that you can always remove and wash in the machine.

The chair is good place both for work and for leisure. Before you make a chair with your own hands, you need to familiarize yourself with its models, since there are a large number of. Some seat models require willow vine or rattan, since when presented in other materials they lose their charm. This piece of furniture can also be made of metal - forged rocking chairs look like jewelry in the interior.

DIY chair - wooden chair

Solid wood furniture is a symbol of solidity and reliability, even if it is lattice models. It doesn’t take much time to make a chair from timber, and it can last without needing restoration. long years. To make it you will need:

  • medium thickness timber;
  • plywood;
  • wood glue;
  • primer;
  • stain;
  • furniture dowel;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • sandpaper 3 types;
  • Bulgarian;
  • screwdriver;
  • hand drill;
  • plane;
  • clamps;
  • sponge or foam rubber;
  • brushes;
  • pencil or marker;
  • square;
  • dye.

Tools for making a chair.

Beam thickness of great importance does not have it, but when purchasing you need to pay attention to a single section, which simplifies the work and shows the quality of the workpiece.

Ideally, all workpieces should be of the same thickness and with good linearity.

If one of the parts is twisted, this will greatly affect the integrity of the product; it may warp or crack during operation.

How to make a chair - the manufacturing process

The timber is sawn into the required number of cross bars and supporting additional seat cross bars. The presence of a circular saw allows you to work well and quickly. The edges of the resulting bars are marked and drilled at the same distance through holes. The distance from these future fastenings to the edge of the block must be at least 25 mm, otherwise a chair made with your own hands will not be strong enough. A drill stand will help you maintain exactly all the parameters for many holes, on which you can set parameters such as the perpendicularity of the holes, their sizes and distances.

Before making a chair, one more safety concern is required - to treat the ends and surface of the slats to prevent the appearance of splinters during operation.

In this case, all existing ribs are rounded using a grinder or plane. When the longitudinal slats are ready, the remains of the timber are divided into squares using a circular saw, which will be used to separate the slats from each other in the structure.

Assembly diagram garden chair.

Holes are also drilled in them, coinciding with those already existing on the finished bars; they need to be sanded and the ribs smoothed. Each master will determine the number of long bars and squares for himself, based on the size of the chair and the thickness of the bar.

Dowel fastenings are inserted into the holes, a few drops of glue are added, after which each block on both sides is connected to a pair of cubes. The workpieces are aligned along the edges by attaching a lath, then left to dry, tightened with clamps. After drying, the wood is treated with stain. You can thread a rope through the holes on the parts and hang the painted parts to dry. Varnishing occurs in the same way.

To make a chair with your own hands, the back and seat for the chair are cut out of plywood. They are screwed together using a pair of screws on the right and left. Dowels can add additional strength if you drill holes for them and glue them first before use. All parts are painted in the desired color and, after drying, varnished. All that remains is to complete the final assembly of the body using bushings and screw the seat. This unusually shaped, bright and eye-catching chair complements the interior well.

DIY easy garden chair

Not everyone likes it plastic chairs, which are now widely used to decorate recreation areas in the country or in the garden. Light garden chairs made of wood look more appropriate on the site, and their production does not take much time. Before making a chair, you need to take into account that its design should be light and comfortable; it is best to prefer a folding chair. This will allow you to quickly move the furniture under the roof in case of rain, because even well-treated wood should not be exposed to moisture.

Connection diagram for chair legs.

The wood to make a chair must be chosen from hardwoods such as beech, walnut or oak. Pine, cedar, larch or aspen are also less susceptible to rotting, but pine is not resistant to mechanical stress, large dents remain on the surface. The boards should be well dried or dried under a canopy before starting work. The following materials and tools will be needed:

  • Circular Saw;
  • milling cutter;
  • hacksaw;
  • plane;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • clamps;
  • sander;
  • roulette;
  • square;
  • pencil;
  • sandpaper;
  • screws or self-tapping screws;
  • wood glue;
  • drying oil or furniture varnish;
  • stain.

Preparation and assembly of parts

A garden chair will require two back and two front legs, with the back legs being longer. You need to cut out 2 supports for the armrests, a backrest and a jumper. For the rear pair of legs, armrests, backrest and seat, boards selected in color and texture are glued together until the desired width is obtained. To properly glue the wood, grooves for dowels are selected at the ends. Paired parts can be cut simultaneously by holding two boards together with clamps.

Drawing of a rocking chair.

The parts are then adjusted to size using a router or plane. When cutting out the back, the glue seam, if present, should be placed in the middle of the part. The upper edge is rounded, and after that you can begin assembling the garden chair, adjusting other elements as needed.

The rear legs are attached to the back with screws and reinforced with glue. To prevent the workpieces from cracking during assembly, holes for fastenings can be drilled in advance. The strength of the assembled seat will depend on the correct placement of the boards on it. They should lie in the direction from one leg to the other. The front legs are also screwed onto screws or self-tapping screws, reinforced with glue.

The reliability and stability of the chair is given by the leg - a jumper located between the front legs. They attach it in the same way as everything else, using glue and screws. Then the armrests and the support for them running behind the back of the chair are attached.

The heads of all screws used for fastening should be sunk flush with the surface, and then closed with special plugs. The wood of the finished chair is impregnated with hot drying oil or stain, dried, and varnished in several layers. You can opt for a special furniture varnish, but the most durable coating is found in parquet or yacht varieties.

Design for rocking chair

This chair can be used both in the garden and at home. By expanding the seat, it is possible to make not a chair, but a whole bench that can accommodate several people. For production you will need:

Chair seat assembly diagram.

  • electric jigsaw;
  • sander;
  • wood drills of different diameters;
  • screwdriver;
  • square;
  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • plywood;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • confirmations;
  • slats.

If the rocking chair is made by hand from start to finish, it is better to use high-quality materials so as not to spoil the work.

Making a rocking chair

The sides of the chair with a rounded bottom are cut out according to the developed pattern first. They must be completely identical, and there should be no protruding corners on their lower part. Then the timber for the seat and back is cut, the quantity and length of which must be calculated separately for each model. The surface of each block is sanded and polished, and the corners are smoothed. If you plan to use the chair outdoors, the ends of the boards need to be given special attention. They are varnished at least 3 times, since it is there that the wood is especially loose and needs protection from atmospheric influences. To protect street and garden furniture from destruction, the ends are impregnated with hot drying oil several times, and the fibers are flattened with a hammer.

The sidewalls are pulled together to the required size using several drawbars, drilling through the sidewalls. Then holes are drilled at the ends for fastening the bars. The bars themselves are also drilled in advance to avoid cracks during operation. It is more convenient to fasten the bars not between the sidewalls, but on top, slightly going beyond the contour. This rocking chair has more space and looks neater. Each screw should then be coated with an antiseptic and a plug placed on top. After this it is done finishing products with waterproof types of varnish, with each layer drying for at least 12 hours. Place at least 3 layers, coat with a thick layer, trying not to leave gaps. Only after this can the rocking chair be considered ready.
