DIY bar stools. Make your kitchen even more comfortable: DIY bar stool

If the area of your apartment or house allows, then you can decorate the rooms of your home to your liking. The kitchen, which can be complemented with bar stools, is no exception. Such pieces of furniture are presented in abundance in modern stores, but their cost can be quite high. In addition, some consumers are not satisfied with the design of the described interior items. Therefore, home craftsmen sometimes make them themselves.

Preparing tools

You can make bar stools with your own hands only by preparing a certain set of tools and materials. Among the first are:

  • screwdriver-drill;
  • grinding machine;
  • pencil;
  • drill;
  • jigsaw;
  • plane;
  • roulette

When preparing a screwdriver, you should make sure you have a set of bits. The jigsaw must have files that will ensure clean cutting of plywood and wood. The sander can be replaced with sandpaper. As for the drills, their length should be 3 and 6 mm.

Making a chair from solid wood

If you decide to make bar stools with your own hands, you can use birch or pine. Birch massif would be better suited, if you plan to tint the products, because pine is stained unevenly. To carry out the work, you will need an array whose thickness is 20 and 30 mm.

From thicker material it is necessary to cut a circle with a diameter of 360 mm. This part will become the seat. If you have access to hand router or milling machine, then you can select a profile along the perimeter. If this is not possible, then you should remove a uniform chamfer and then sand the surface. This recommendation applies to all blanks.

If you decide to make bar stools with your own hands, then at the next stage a small circle, the diameter of which is 260 mm, will need to be cut from an array of less thickness. Stiffening ribs should be cut from the same material, which serve as a footrest. The legs should be cut from solid wood of a more impressive thickness. It is important to pay attention to the fact that the structure of the wood must be vertical.

Self-tapping screws are used for screeding. Dimensions equal to 5x80 mm will be needed to screw the legs to the small circle and to each other. In order to fix the seat to the small circle, you should use 5x40 mm self-tapping screws. To install the stiffeners, 5x20 mm self-tapping screws are used. The ribs should be installed on the legs using angles. At the final stage, the product can be coated with stain, dried, and then painted with several layers of varnish.

Another option for making a bar stool

If you decide to make bar stools with your own hands, then you should consider several technologies at once. The second involves the use of plywood, the thickness of which can vary from 25 to 30 mm. The legs can be made of balusters or shovel handles. The diameter of these elements should be approximately 30 mm.

To perform the work, you should prepare a 30 mm drill. For one chair you will need four legs, each of which is 750 mm long. The seat radius will be equivalent to 180mm. You will also need to cut out the rough seat, its radius should be 170 mm. When making a wooden bar stool with your own hands, you will need to cut the top ring, its outer radius should be 143 mm, while the inner radius will be 110 mm. The lower ring must have outer and inner radii, which are equal to 153 mm and 120 mm, respectively.

Work methodology

Before you start cutting out the rings, they should be marked for drilling. On the workpiece, draw the outer contour of the circle and draw two perpendicular straight lines through the center. From the crosshairs you should set aside 140 mm in each direction, which will allow you to get center points holes, they should be selected with a feather drill.

Next, the internal contour is determined; at this stage, you will need to cut out the ring from the workpiece. The rough seat is marked using the same technology as the upper ring. However, only half the thickness needs to be drilled out. This will provide sockets for installing the legs. When making a bar stool from wood with your own hands, the parts should be processed, as in the first version of making the chair.

The legs should be secured to the rings with furniture screws. You will need 8 of them, and the size of each will be 6x70 mm. Don't forget about the washers. You will need to prepare holes for them. The top ring does not need to be tightened tightly. First, the legs are installed in the sockets, where you first need to pour a little wood glue.

The rough seat is additionally screwed to the legs with 5x60 mm self-tapping screws. It is important to recess the fastener heads. The main seat is strengthened from above; it must be strengthened from below using 4x40 mm self-tapping screws. Before you make your own bar stool, you must prepare the stain. The surface of the chair is covered with it at the final stage.

Making a metal bar stool

Bar stool You can also make it yourself from metal. If there are remains of sheet iron or metal profiles in the arsenal, then all these materials will be used. The shape of the future seat should be depicted on the surface of the asbestos sheet for welding. Using the sketch, you should cut out the blanks and weld them together. The result will be a polygon, the inner plane of which has yet to be filled.

To do this, the blanks are cut from the same strip; you can use a pattern you come up with yourself. The workpieces are welded together and cleaned, and the corners should be rounded. The legs are welded to the seat; for this you can use a profile with dimensions equal to 30x20 mm.

If you decide to make bar stools with your own hands, it is recommended that you first consider the photo. They will allow you to avoid many mistakes. During the welding process, the legs will need to be grabbed onto one welding point. The leg support levels are marked at a distance of 45 cm from the seat. In this case, you should be guided by the comfort of using the future chair.

The foot rests should be made from the same profile. To prevent the legs from being pressed through finishing floors, you can put rubber or plastic stoppers, instead of which decorative heels are sometimes used. They should first be cut to size and sanded.

Conclusion

There is no need to fix the plugs with screws or glue; they will be held in place on their own. The main requirement is to sand them to fit the size of the legs. When making such a bar stool with your own hands, it is advisable to prepare the drawings in advance. Thanks to them you can accurately calculate required amount material, and generally facilitate the work process. Well, at the final stage the chair should be painted, but first it must be covered with a layer of primer.

A high chair (stool) is an integral attribute of a modern drinking establishment - a bar, equipped with a counter with a narrow table top. IN Lately It has become fashionable to install such racks at home. My neighbors asked me to make a DIY wood bar stool for their new kitchen bar. After looking through a lot of information on this topic, I chose and agreed with my neighbors on the simplest design for a bar stool model. I started preparing the tools and purchasing the necessary materials.

Bar stool design

The seat height of such a stool is explained by the fact that the guest sitting at the counter must be at the same level as the bartender, who serves the client while standing. To prevent the legs of a person sitting on a stool from hanging in the air, support bars are made at the bottom of the stool. The distance from the top of the seat to the floor is usually 80 cm.

Tools

I picked up everything needed to make a bar stool with my own hands in my workshop. This is indicated in the following list:

  • wood hacksaw;
  • screwdriver;
  • drill with drills;
  • set of chisels;
  • Sander;
  • roulette;
  • brushes;
  • container for diluting varnish;
  • pencil.

Materials

In the shop building materials purchased the following:

  • oak board 400 × 400 × 30 mm;
  • timber 50 × 50 × 3000 mm;
  • rail 20 × 40 × 2500 mm;
  • screws 30 mm – 8 pcs.;
  • plugs – 8 pcs.;
  • PVA glue;
  • stain - bottle;
  • furniture varnish - can;
  • solvent;
  • wooden dowels – 4 pcs.;
  • sandpaper.

I reflected all my steps in making a wooden bar stool with my own hands in the instructions. I took the height of the furniture and its main dimensions from a cabinetmaker I knew.

Step-by-step instructions for assembling a bar stool with your own hands

  1. I cleaned the oak board on all sides with a sander. I finally brought the seat plane to an ideal state with sandpaper.
  2. From the bottom side in the corners of the board I drilled 20 mm recesses with a drill.
  3. I decided to make the legs from pine beams 50 × 50 mm. It was sawn into 4 pieces 77 cm long.
  4. I drilled 20 mm recesses in the upper ends of the supports.
  5. I cut the wooden plank with a hacksaw into 8 pieces 28 cm long.
  6. All manufactured parts were treated with stain. Impregnation favorably emphasized the structure of the wood.
  7. The dried wood was covered with furniture varnish 2 times.
  8. The upper seat base and lower belt were assembled by connecting the legs to the transverse strips with screws.
  9. The screw heads were covered with plastic plugs using PVA glue.
  10. I filled the holes in the upper ends of the legs with glue and inserted wooden dowels into them.
  11. I filled the recesses in the back of the seat with glue.
  12. The seat was “dressed” on dowel legs. Place a small weight on the board until the glue dries completely.
  13. I glued felt circles to the lower ends of the legs. Furniture will not scratch the floor covering.

After I made a wooden bar stool with my own hands, I calculated the labor costs and financial expenses.

Labor costs

The amount of time spent on making furniture was combined into a table.

In total I made 3 chairs, the production of which took only 18 people. hours.

Cost of materials

  1. Oak board 40 × 40 × 3 cm = 300 rub.
  2. Beam 3 m = 150 rub.
  3. Rake = 50 rub.
  4. Everything else (PVA, screws, plugs, stain and varnish were available).

Total: 500 rub.

Accordingly, 1,500 rubles were spent on making 3 bar stools with my own hands. The homemade bar stools turned out beautiful and quite comfortable.

Do you have a bar counter in your house or apartment, but no high stools for it? The assortment in stores is not that small, but does not fit into the concept of the living room or kitchen? It's OK! From today's master class you will learn how to make DIY bar stool.

Materials for bar stool legs

The first question you should ask yourself is how will the seat of your chair be soft or hard? If you don't know the best way to proceed in this case, leave it solid, as we did. If you don’t like it, you can upholster it at any time - with fabric, leather or any other material you like. Below you can see the diagrams and dimensions of our future bar stool.

Let's start assembling the legs

We make the legs of the chair from poplar wood - 5x5 cm, 71 cm long. In order for the legs to be inclined towards each other, the corners and chamfers at both ends need to be reduced by 5 degrees. All connections are made using the technique described in this article.

We attach the middle and bottom strips, similarly by first chamfering them at an angle of 5 degrees.

After you have connected together two parts of the chair that stand parallel to each other, we begin to screw perpendicular partitions on one of these assembled sides - at the top and bottom. First we process one side, then the other.

When attaching partitions, you must take into account their placement in such a way that when the chair is ready, you can comfortably place your feet on them. This is a bar stool and it should be comfortable to sit on!

Seat manufacturing technology

The special shape of the seat will make your bar stools even more comfortable. First you need to make markings on one of the ends of the board, which we will use to make the seat. To achieve the desired shape, you can use a circular saw, adjust it to different cutting depths, or you can use a regular saw for this purpose. We cut the grooves and then trim off the excess wood using a chisel.

Of course, this is a rather difficult way to make a recess and you may need to use some special tool, but I didn’t have one at hand. After you have used the chisel, you need to thoroughly clean the surface of the seat with a grinder.

Connecting the seat and legs

We complete our master class by connecting the manufactured seat and legs. To do this, you need to drill holes in the top of the legs and the bottom of the seat and use glue to place everything on the pins.

Use sandpaper to sand the surface of your new bar stool. If necessary, fill the holes with putty, paint or varnish if desired.

Ready bar stool

That's all, these three handsome men, three heroes settled in our living room. Thanks to the customized height, optimal placement of the crossbars and ergonomic seat, they have become the most comfortable and favorite in our family. Do you want to make the same? Nothing could be easier!

An interesting option to make bath chairs with your own hands

If you decide to equip your dining room or kitchen with a bar counter, then it will take on a complete look only after you equip it with chairs. When choosing such pieces of furniture, it is necessary to take into account compliance with the design and style of the room. You can, of course, purchase such an add-on in a store, but the cost can be impressive, and design features may not be suitable for a certain interior.

Preparation of tools and materials

If you decide to make bar bars, you can purchase the materials at a hardware store. It is recommended to order cutting from a carpentry workshop. In order to determine the most comfortable dimensions of the products, you should measure the distance from the floor surface to the bottom of the tabletop. The gap between the surface of the table and the seat should be from 30 to 35 cm. To carry out the work you will need a screwdriver and jigsaw, as well as a plane, tape measure, hammer and carpenter's corner. Make sure you have self-tapping screws and sandpaper. The products will be based on a square block with a side of 50 millimeters. You will also need an array from which the drawers will be made. The thickness of the latter should be equivalent to 25-30 millimeters.

When choosing wood, you should pay attention to pine, birch or beech. The optimal diameter of the array for making a chair is 360 millimeters. In order for the products to acquire a finished look, they can be coated with varnish or stain. To carry out the work you will need brushes, stain and solvent.

Manufacturing technology

If you are making bar stools with your own hands, then using a jigsaw you should prepare a circle from solid wood, the diameter of which should be 360 mm. This element will come out top part bar stool. The workpiece needs to be processed grinder, and get rid of the chamfer along the edge. A circle of less impressive diameter, which will be 260 millimeters, should be prepared for attaching the legs. If you make bar stools with your own hands, then the seat can be square, in which case the drawer frame will be used. As alternative solution a technology will be introduced that involves merging several planks 120 millimeters wide or more. After the blanks are glued, they should be joined and secured with clamps, leaving them in this state until dry. If you make bar stools with your own hands, you can use furniture glue for gluing.

Features of the work

Once the height of the bar stool has been selected and you have completed all of the above work, you can proceed to making the legs. For this, a square beam with a side of 50 millimeters is used. At this stage, using it along the entire length of the element, it should be planed with a slight slope. It is necessary to achieve such an effect that the cross-section of the legs in the lower part is 2.5x2.5 cm. As for the upper part, which will be fixed to the seat, it should be as thick as possible. The product will require four legs; they are additionally fixed to the structure and act as a support bar for the legs of the person sitting. If you are making a white bar stool, then during the work process you can use the technology described in the article, and at the final stage prepare paint of the appropriate shade. The next step will be to manipulate a square beam with a side of 2.5 cm. This element should be planed, and then the tenon should be sawed down at the end parts. Stepping back about 30 cm from the floor, you need to hollow out a nest in the legs, which is necessary for the spike. The legs prepared in advance must be installed in the sockets using glue. The entire structure is strengthened with twine.

Assembling the chair

When making a tall one, the next step is to assemble it, eliminating the occurrence of gaps and cracks. After all the parts have been adjusted, they should initially be assembled dry, and only after you are convinced that the design is ideal, you can use glue for such work. Today you can even find folding bar stools on sale, but it should be taken into account that they are able to take on less significant weight. Sharp corners of the spikes must be rounded. For attaching legs to mounting surface you need to drill two holes for dowels, the diameter of which can be 8 millimeters. The mounting shield is placed on the dowels as tightly as possible. The legs can be further strengthened using screws.

Final works

If you decide to make folding bar stools yourself, then the legs should be fixed not by rigid fastening, but with the help of special furniture canopies. However, it is necessary to provide a support installed at the base of the seat. This will prevent the structure from folding during operation. Don't just attach everything mechanically or glue. A façade seat should be installed on top of the mounting panel. It must be secured with screws installed on the back side. The height of the bar stool will depend only on your preferences and the dimensions of the available table.

The spacious kitchen allows you to make the most of the space: you can place here not only the usual dinner table, but also a bar counter with chairs. You can make a bar stool at home with your own hands, having a minimal set of tools and knowing the basics of woodworking. It will be a little more difficult to make kitchen furniture from metal pipes.

Furniture design

You need to start making a bar stool with your own hands by determining the material, as well as taking measurements and creating a drawing. It is better to make the structure from wood (pine, birch) or metal (from pipes). A good economical option is plywood or chipboard panels, they are reliable and durable. Having chosen the material for the product, you can move on to the next stage - coming up with a shape and creating a drawing.

DIY bar stools must have long legs, but everything else is optional. For example, the design may have a small back or soft seat square or round shapes. All this should be reflected in the drawings. When developing them, it is worth taking the height of the bar counter as a basis and subtracting 350 mm. This way, the height of the furniture is correct and convenient to use. This is a standard calculation. As for the height of the backrest, it should be no lower than 20 and no higher than 60 cm.

Features of creating a bar stool

Have you decided to make a chair out of wood? Logs are an excellent preparation for the product.

Their thickness should be at least 20-30 cm, otherwise the chair will sag. However, if the thickness of the material is greater, then it is difficult to work with. The logs need to be cut into 10 parts, which must correspond to the dimensions in the drawings.

  • Circle for seat. Thickness – 30 mm, diameter – 350 mm.
  • Circle shaped seat support. Thickness – 20 mm, diameter – 250 mm.
  • 4 wooden legs. Thickness – 30 mm.
  • 4 strips for structural ribs. Thickness – 30 mm.

Please note: the cut should be made vertically so that the wood structure is not damaged and remains vertical, otherwise it will reduce the strength of the chair.

After cutting, the assembly stage of the product begins. For this you will need:

  • metal corners for fastening stiffeners to the legs;
  • self-tapping screws 5x80 mm for fastening the legs of the structure to each other and for screwing them to a small circle;
  • 5x20 mm self-tapping screws for securing the stiffeners;
  • self-tapping screws 5x40 mm for fastening the seat to a small circle.

You need to start assembling a wooden chair according to the following scheme: the legs are fastened together, then the stiffeners are installed on the metal corners, the small circle is screwed to the legs, and the main seat is fixed on top of the entire structure. The chair is ready! The product is varnished for practicality.

Second version of a wooden chair

Classic version for kitchen - high chair with rectangular seat. As in the first option, when calculating the height, you need to start from the height of the bar counter. Classic optimal parameters are shown in the figure.

Logs are suitable as a material. Their thickness should be 30 mm, size 5x5 cm. After cutting the logs into the required parts, you can begin assembling the furniture.

Start assembling the chair from the legs. So that they are inclined towards each other, you need to transform them by bevelling the corners and chamfers at both ends by 5 degrees. Now you can attach the top and bottom strips. Thus, we got 2 parts of the chair, parallel to each other. The next stage is the attachment of perpendicular partitions - at the top and bottom. It is important to understand here that the lower perpendicular partition will serve as a support for the legs, so it must be secured at a comfortable level.

Let's move on to making the seat. Markings should be made at the end of the board, and then the required shape should be cut out. Will help give unusual curves a circular saw. It is imperative to clean the part with a grinding machine.

The final stage is connecting the chair legs and the seat. Holes are drilled in the tops of the legs and the bottom of the seat, and the 2 parts are fastened using pins. You can put them not only on pins, but also glue them with PVA glue to make the chair more stable. The product is coated with varnish or paint.

Metal bar stool

A metal product will become a decoration kitchen interior in loft or industrial styles. Especially metal chair It will look original at the bar counter in the kitchen. It can be made from iron pipes.

To create furniture you will need:

  • piece of iron,
  • preparation of pipes preferably from of stainless steel(nickel-plated, chrome-plated, anodized),
  • sheet of plywood or chipboard.

The diameter of the pipes depends on the type of furniture. But it is worth considering that the structure must withstand the weight of a person and the pressure of the seat. It is recommended to take material with a diameter of at least 5 cm. The height of the legs is determined and the pipe blank of the required length is cut, preferably with a small margin of 1-2 cm.

Now you need to shape the material. This can be done using a pipe bender: the upper parts of the pipes are bent into the shape of a semicircle. They are fastened together with mounting bolts.

The seat can be made of metal or plywood. In the first option, the required shape is drawn on a piece of iron, then cut out and attached to a curved pipe blank using welding or bolts. In the second option plywood base cut out required form and attached to metal frame. In this case, the seat should be covered with fabric and foam rubber to make it comfortable for use. Please note: a chair with iron legs can scratch the floor, so it is worth “putting on” plastic or rubber “socks”.
