Step 1. Drill holes in the caps of both plastic bottles with a diameter of equal to the diameter metal tube.

Step 1. Cut from PVC pipes a piece approximately 13 cm high. This will be the mold for the concrete base of your lamp. Adjust its height yourself. Step 6 Place the prepared part of the pipe on a piece of plywood. Place an upside down, trimmed and empty plastic bottle right in the center of it.

Step 7 Gradually begin pouring the concrete solution into the mold. Periodically knock on PVC wall pipes with a rubber hammer so that parts of the solution settle to the bottom and do not rise up. As the material is poured, the plastic bottle may be pushed upward. Take a nail and lower it to the bottom.

Step 8 Take a grinder and use it to create vibrations to shrink the concrete solution. During this process, continue to hold the bottle with the nail.

Step 9 Leave the entire structure to dry completely. This process may take several days.

Step 10 Received concrete base for the lamp you need to remove it from the mold. To remove the concrete layer from the bottom side, gently tap it with a hammer.

The idea to make a lamp out of concrete dawned on me when I was designing lights at the dacha and trying to create lamps in 3D style. This will help you realize a great idea for creating a three-dimensional design.

I was faced with the problem of how to remove the finished, cast concrete lamp from the mold that you make. The more advanced your project, the harder it will be to pull ready product out of shape intact. Also, think about weight. You want to use as little concrete as possible, but the thinner the product, the heavier the form needs to be made. By the way, I do not recommend using plywood less than 20 mm thick.

The shape of the concrete lamp must be made in such a way that all its parts and sides can be dismantled. Sketch out a sketch of the shape, put down the dimensions, determine the locations of fasteners and ties and start manufacturing.

Varnish coating:

— When making the form, you should cover all sides of the formwork with a thick layer of varnish. This creates a smooth surface that is water resistant and will protect the mold.

Wiring:

— It is important to plan the laying of wires. You can use polystyrene foam, lay it over the mold, pour it in, then pull the wire through and install the socket

Where necessary, polystyrene foam can be glued to the form as this is easy to remove once the concrete has set.

Preparing to disassemble the mold:

— Before you pour the concrete, you must coat all sides of the form with any type of oil.

Concrete and pouring:

— I used concrete brands Sakrete and QuikCrete with equal results. For my concrete light fixture I used approximately one 80 lb bag. A cement mixer will be very useful as it will allow you to get correct sequence mixing. Make sure the mixture is medium, not too wet and not too dry. As a rule, more complex forms for pouring require more liquid mixtures.

- Make sure the pour goes slowly when you start pouring the concrete. Use a small bucket or similar container. Use your hands to test and move the concrete to make sure it reaches all corners of the concrete light fixture shape. Also, if you use polystyrene foam, make sure it stays where it is intended.

— If you use Oscilliating concrete or similar, you need to vibrate the concrete. Vibration improves the flow of concrete and helps fill voids/air pockets that might otherwise be present in the casting. You may notice that the concrete is receding slightly, which is a sign that the void has been filled.

— When the form is filled, cover it plastic film to cover it for a day or two. If you want to give a concrete lamp additional strength, you need to allow the concrete to harden slowly. I usually try to leave the formwork for 2-3 days before attempting to remove it.

Removing formwork:

“This is the most exciting thing, but it must be done slowly and carefully. Try to start with the simplest sides

Reverse sides or flat surfaces. This will give you a general idea of ​​how the concrete has cured. You may need to let it set a little longer. This will be easy to tell after examining the flat side.

- Some sides of the formwork may need a little force, so have a rubber mallet and tap lightly to force the sides to come off.

- Expanded polystyrene can be removed by breaking it suitable tool- a screwdriver or something similar. If you're adventurous, you could burn it.

— The concrete will still be damp, but you can either give it some time to dry, or start installing the concrete lamp and doing the wiring.

Let's face it, designer lighting can cost a pretty penny. Instead of spending money on a new one ceiling lamp, you can make yourself a whole set of stylish concrete pendant lights from one bag of concrete mix and old plastic bottles.

Concrete lamps, required materials:
  1. Quikrete 5000 concrete mix and similar (you can also try mixing different colors of concrete for a 2-tone effect)
  2. Two plastic bottles (one large and one smaller. The large one is selected based on the desired shape of the lamp and its size. If you want the lamp to be smooth, without patterns, you need to choose a container without embossing. A regular two-liter bottle can be an excellent option)
  3. Self-tapping screws
  4. Threaded tube with a diameter of 3/8 inch and nuts for it
  5. Cartridge
  6. Switch and cord (since the lamp will be heavy, use good flexible cables for lifting and conveyor systems)
Tools:
  1. Scissors
  2. Cordless drill with standard 3/8" bit for drilling holes in lids
  3. Grinding wheels
  4. Wire cutters
Step-by-step instruction:

Use scissors to cut off the bottom of a large bottle.

Drill a hole in the bottle cap using a drill. It's easier to drill a hole when the caps are screwed on the bottle. The hole must be large enough to insert the metal tube.

Now it's time to connect the two bottles. Insert the tube through both caps and use the nuts on both sides of each cap to hold them firmly in place.

Then use self-tapping screws to secure the bottles.

Now prepare the concrete mixture and fill the form. We recommend using a large spoon to fill the mold. Shake and tap the sides of the bottle after each spoonful to ensure the concrete is evenly distributed.

We're almost done! It's time to remove the bottles from the mold. We unscrew the screws. You can use a hair dryer to heat the plastic, making it softer and easier to remove.

Thread the wires and twist them together, make sure the pendant is securely fastened, connect the structure to electricity
