DIY jigsaw machine from an electric jigsaw. Drawings for making jigsaw machines with your own hands

Era electric tool came not with the first electric drills, but when the electric motor became an attribute of a tool with a narrower focus: scissors, hacksaws, impact wrenches and, of course, jigsaws.

Moreover, the jigsaw became one of the first in this series. Today it is one of the most popular tools in the home (and not only) workshop. And first of all, we're talking about about hand tools.

But in this article we are considering jigsaw machines, and these are practically stationary devices that often have their own specific place in the workshop, because for comfortable work they require a base with given parameters: height, so that the hand placed on the work table has a bend at the elbow of 90º and stability to dampen vibrations of the machine itself.

What are jigsaws used for?

Jigsaw machines are primarily designed for cutting out parts or elements of complex configurations in sheet materials: wood, plywood, MDF, fiberboard, chipboard, plastic, aluminum. They are also used to cut out the internal contours of products with preliminary drilling of the sawn material.

Such a tool, unlike manual or electric jigsaws, leaves both hands free for the person working on it, which greatly facilitates the work and allows it to be performed with the greatest precision. Most jigsaw machines, provided that the files are correctly selected and installed, allow sawing even in fairly thick workpieces, strictly maintaining an angle of 90º relative to the plane of the workpiece.

Also, many models have an inclined table, which makes it possible to perform complex patterns at strictly specified angles other than straight, which is almost impossible when using manual or electric jigsaws.

Except home use, they are widely used in furniture production and manufacturing enterprises musical instruments. True, quite often they are replaced by laser machines, but the burnt edges left by the latter do not make their use widespread.

General drawing, structural features of desktop jigsaw machines

The most common layout of jigsaw machines is as follows:

It includes:

  • a frame (or body) on which all components and mechanisms are mounted;
  • drive, often from an electric motor via a V-belt to a crank;
  • a crank mechanism that converts the rotational motion of the electric motor shaft into the reciprocating motion of the saw;
  • double rocker with tensioning device and attachments for saw blades;
  • desktop, sometimes with a mechanism for rotating in the horizontal plane at a given angle.

Previously, miniature jigsaw machines with a somewhat simplified design were on sale, but it was precisely because of this, which led to the rapid failure of the files due to their short stroke, that their production was discontinued.

Most currently produced desktop jigsaw machines work with files 200–350 mm long and have a working stroke of 30 to 50 mm.

The differences between the machines mainly consist in the power of the electric drive (from 90 to 500 W for most models), as well as the type and methods of attaching the files. The optimal power, in our opinion, is 150 W.

And files, in addition to length, can vary in width (from 2 to 10 mm), type of shanks (with or without pins) and thickness (from 0.6 to 1.25 mm).

Some models can be equipped with the simplest, often called “Soviet”, saw blades for manual jigsaws, which is a big advantage. To realize just this opportunity, owners of jigsaw machines that do not have it often improve the fastenings of their devices by installing clamps from a manual jigsaw on them.

Most desktop jigsaw machines have 2 speed modes: most often 600 and 1000 rpm, which is very useful when working with materials of different thickness, hardness and viscosity. The presence of the already mentioned turntable for 99% of the work performed on the machine, the function is useless.

Also, most jigsaw machines are equipped with additional accessories, such as:

  • compressor for blowing chips from the cutting line;
  • lighting of the sawing area;
  • drilling block, etc.

These devices cannot be called useless, but it is still not worth relying on their presence when choosing a tabletop jigsaw machine, since these same functions can be successfully performed by:

  • a compressor for an aquarium, with a blowing power selected by you, often more efficient than the standard one;
  • a table lamp or carrier with a light output that is comfortable for your eyes;
  • electric drill or screwdriver.

Even more complex devices, such as engraving drills, which can be equipped with your machine, generally cause some confusion, but let’s say right away that it is better to have such tools not tied to a jigsaw (or any other) machine. Their mobility is often more expensive than the advanced functionality of this very machine. In addition, all this is far from free.

Choosing a jigsaw manufacturer

Most often, Russian consumers choose jigsaw machines from Proxxon, Dewalt, Hegner, Xendoll, Zubr, JET, Enkor Corvette and Croton. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages. Based on reliability and compliance with the characteristics declared by the manufacturer, we would single out machines from the German company Hegner. And their line of this equipment is longer than many others, but be sure to insist on sea trials when purchasing, regardless of which company’s machine you are planning to buy.

And even if it is possible to choose from 2 identical machines, demand that both are turned on. Buy one that has less operating noise and vibration.

DIY jigsaw machine

Finding a drawing of such equipment on the Internet is a rather trivial task, but we do not consider it advisable to single out any specific one from them, due to completely different approaches to implementation, both the very idea of building such a machine, and the selection of materials, type of drive, etc. We will offer several concepts for a homemade jigsaw and briefly analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each so that you can figure out what is best for you.

  • First: the easiest to implement, suitable for performing most tasks in the manufacture of parts with a rather complex contour at home.

There are many options for attaching a manual jigsaw to the tabletop that serves as the machine’s work table. Choose any, or offer your own and share with the readers of our site, for which we will be grateful.

The video also shows techniques for making a complex contour using a not-so-thin file. And the main disadvantage of this design is the impossibility of using thin files, which makes it difficult to manufacture openwork parts.

  • Second: wooden. It is interesting due to the fact that the material is accessible, easy to process and repair.

In our opinion, the interesting thing about it is the use of the same manual jigsaw, which is rational for two reasons:

  • if necessary, it can also be used as independent instrument, as it was made;
  • the drive has built-in speed control, oscillation amplitude, and eliminates additional mechanisms that reduce the reliability of the design.

However, for those who like to tinker, there are alternative options for making a wooden jigsaw.

When used as a drive of a drill or screwdriver with an adjustable speed of rotation of the output shaft, it will also be possible to smoothly regulate the frequency of movement of the saw.

Moreover, control of this process can be transferred to the pedal using a simple device, which will make the work even more comfortable and the cut more accurate. Such jigsaw machines need to be well strengthened with braces and stringers and securely fastened to the floor so that they do not move during operation.

  • Third: metal. There is no doubt that this particular concept is the most reliable and durable (subject to the exception serious mistakes during manufacture), but also the most expensive. It makes sense to implement it if there is a large amount of work and you manage to save a sufficient amount by using the materials you already have. Otherwise, there is not much point in making such structures with your own hands, given that inexpensive factory-made jigsaw machines can be purchased for less than 4 thousand rubles.

Of course, the latter does not matter if you are interested in the process of technical creativity itself.

Dear readers, if you have any questions, please ask them using the form below. We will be glad to communicate with you;)

Without a jigsaw, many woodworking operations are impossible. Compact and lightweight, it allows you to manufacture products of even the most complex geometries. Sometimes, for example, with large volumes of work, it is more convenient to work with this tool not as a manual jigsaw, but in a machine format. Such equipment is presented in the catalogs of many manufacturers of household power tools, but if necessary, you can make it yourself.

Selection of equipment - main points

First, it’s worth answering the question: what material will the master most often work with? An electric motor power of 50-90 W is sufficient for most types of wood, but if you plan to process hard wood and significant volumes, pay attention to the 120 W options. Stepwise adjustment of engine speed (blade speed) is desirable; choose models with a smooth change in this parameter.

The ability to adjust the speed is needed to adapt the machine to work with different types of wood - heating of the material, which will ruin the cut, is eliminated. In addition, by gradually increasing the speed, the master concentrates on a complex procedure, and the engine operates in a gentle mode, which increases its service life.

Some models provide the ability to cut not only in a horizontal surface, but also at an angle, and a special scale will allow you to select the most accurate position of the workpiece. Semi-professional and household machines allow you to change the tilt of the desktop up to 45° in one direction, professional ones - up to 45° in both directions.

Pay attention to the work surface. It should be massive enough so as not to sag under heavy workpieces, very smooth (so the part slides over the base without problems) and polished so as not to stain the workpiece.

When choosing equipment, it is important to remember the nominal number of revolutions. Many craftsmen mistakenly believe that it must correspond to at least 1650 reciprocating movements of the saw in 60 seconds - only with this indicator the cut will be perfectly smooth, without chips or nicks. However, modern tabletop machines from famous manufacturers guarantee an ideal cutting line even at speeds of 700-1400 strokes per minute.

Don't forget about the maximum stroke saw blade– the thickness of the processed parts depends on this value. Additional options are also important:

  • Availability of engraver – extra. shaft for particularly precise cuts and the manufacture of fine crafts;
  • removing wood dust and shavings from the working surface;
  • illumination of the cutting area.

How to navigate models from different manufacturers?

There are many models of jigsaw machines on the modern market, but there are several main “players”, and each of them has its own characteristics, advantages and disadvantages.

The Corvette models from the Encor company are household-grade machines and are not suitable for use in industrial environments, but they are quite functional equipment, equipped with a rotating worktop for performing bevel cuts at the desired angle, fixed by a stop with a degree scale.

Although the machines of this model are not designed for processing massive workpieces, the manufacturer offers a 150 W drive. The motor is a commutator type, quite noisy and prone to overheating, unable to work without interruption and requiring regular brush replacement.

The amplitude of the saw stroke is 40 mm, the oscillation frequency is 700 per 60 seconds (in some modifications, a second speed is added - 1400 per minute to select the optimal mode when processing wood of different hardnesses). The files supplied with the equipment are not of impeccable quality, so it makes sense to immediately replace them with analogues from a third-party manufacturer.

Household machines also include Zubr models, which are compact enough even for use in a city apartment. The main feature of this equipment, which can be called its disadvantage, is noticeable vibration, which interferes with high-precision cutting.

Zubr machines are capable of processing plywood, solid wood, plastic, and thin aluminum in a horizontal plane and at an angle. They also perform drilling, grinding and polishing; for this purpose, the delivery set includes an additional work table and a flexible shaft with a chuck.

Overheating of the cutting tool is prevented by the built-in cooling system; there is an electromagnetic switch to prevent accidental activation. The files used in Zubr machines are special, reinforced, and have pins at their ends.

The working surface is separated from the operator by a transparent casing to protect it from dust and chips, and the cutting area is cleared of sawing products by blowing to improve visibility. Efficient waste disposal is provided. The motor used is a commutator type, quite resistant to overloads. Its brushes are designed for long-term use, but their quick replacement is still provided in the equipment.

RSW jigsaws are designed for creative carpentry workshops. Among their features are minimal backlash and the most accurate trajectory of the cutting tool. The equipment provides everything for the operator to work efficiently: fencing and illumination of the working area, the ability to remove sawing products using a conventional vacuum cleaner.

In RSW machines, the file has an unusual arrangement - with the teeth down, pin files are used, and they can be replaced without a key. Also among the features of the equipment is the presence of the most powerful engine in the category of similar professional machines.

JSS jigsaw machines from the JET brand are intended for craft workshops, art studios and serious hobbies. They provide a stable cutting angle, the speed of movement of the cutting tool is infinitely variable by the built-in electronic system.

The manufacturer offers its branded files with pin fastening, but JSS JET equipment can also work with “regular” ones. These machines are suitable for cutting complex shapes, but the workpieces processed should not be excessively large. Their materials are wood, chipboard, plywood, fiberboard, hard and soft plastics.

The blade tension lever is located in the upper part of the machine, which increases the convenience of working with it, and the cutting blade is installed in two versions - across and along the longitudinal axis of the equipment. Dust and sawdust are easily removed with an adjustable nozzle connected to the dust extraction system. The work table can be installed at an angle; to control the accuracy of its position, there is a transport scale and a stopper.

How to build a jigsaw machine on your own?

Such equipment can be made at home with your own hands; craftsmen even create such machines from old sewing machines. If you have certain skills, the drawing and design diagram are developed independently.

As a table you can use a tabletop, a workbench, and if they are not there - homemade design made of laminated plywood with a minimum thickness of 10 mm. From it you should build a kind of table with a working surface size of about 500x500 mm and a height of legs of about 400-500 mm. They can be two or three solid or four separate. In the first case, the design resembles a box, in the second - a traditional table on a reduced scale).

The necessary parts are cut out with a wood hacksaw or a circular saw, and the individual elements are fastened into a single system with self-tapping screws. In the table cover, you should use a drill to drill holes for fastening the tool and for the file. You will also have to make mounting holes in the sole of the jigsaw. After this, you can bolt it to the tabletop so that the cutting part points vertically upward.

The advantage of such a homemade jigsaw machine is the clear fixation of the tool and the guarantee that the master’s hand will lead the cut along the desired path.

This version of the machine does not always form the correct curved cut - the file can deviate, especially if a massive workpiece is being processed. The problem is solved by rigidly fixing the cutting tool with a pair of rollers that need to be placed on an additional part.

It is made from bars with a cross-section of about 50x50 mm. which are connected into an L-shaped element using a furniture corner and self-tapping screws, attached to the work table, and at the free end a bent metal plate with rollers made of bolts and bearing parts is placed with rigid fixation.

What to do if you need curly and very precise cuts?

To perform the most accurate, very thin figured cuts, a homemade jigsaw machine must be equipped with a cutting blade tension system. Among the features of this device:

  • the fork should be used very thin - for hand jigsaws;
  • the rod of the electric tool must be connected to the clamp that tensions the saw blade using a special adapter;
  • As a tension block, use the clamp of a regular hand jigsaw.

In terms of design, the machine differs little from that described above. It is necessary to build a work table with a hole for cutting tool and attach a clamp to the tabletop, and place an electric drive underneath.

If cuts are needed especially precise and thin, which implies extremely delicate and slow work, it is necessary to reduce the force on the files while simultaneously ensuring strong tension and precise movement. For this purpose, a homemade machine should be equipped with spacer devices on long arms instead of the traditional clamp of a manual jigsaw.

The spacer structure and the arms holding the file are made of wood or steel. Otherwise, the design of the machine resembles a model with a manual clamp.

This article will discuss the design of a homemade machine made from a household jigsaw. Below will be given step-by-step instruction, photos, videos, as well as drawings and diagrams.

Introduction

There are a lot of design options - from the simplest, where the file just sticks out of the tabletop, to quite complex designs with guides, the ability to cut at an angle, when it is possible to set the file not only 90 degrees to the base, but change the angle (well, within reason, Certainly). There are devices (machines) for sawing, that is, making straight and smooth cut.

Everyone finds such devices greater application because of its versatility and functionality. In fact, their parameters and purpose are similar to stationary machines and have a strictly defined practical use in every workshop.

Purpose

A homemade jigsaw is a universal tool and is very popular, so it can be used both at home and in industrial enterprises - furniture shops or carpentry workshops.

At the same time, of course, you need to understand that the quality of work largely depends on the jigsaw and file itself, and the design only helps and expands the capabilities of the hand tool.

What are they used for? It is very convenient to make various parts from sheet material, well, as a rule, these are all kinds of wooden materials:

  • solid wood;
  • plywood;
  • various boards (fibreboard, chipboard, MDF, etc.);
  • plastics
  • thin (soft) sheet metal

A distinctive feature is the use in the design of a standard (household) jigsaw, which almost every craftsman has, as a saw blade mover. Through simple manipulations, it is secured with the saw facing upwards, so the master does not drive the saw with the tool, but moves the workpiece.

Advantages

The main advantage of such designs in comparison with hand tools is the ease of processing materials. During the processing process, the master does not hold the tool itself (it is quite weighty), but the workpiece. This allows you to perform work with maximum precision. In addition, the presence of stops makes it possible to cut evenly, but this is expensive.

Basic design

As mentioned above, there are a large number of design options, however, it is necessary to highlight the most basic basic structural elements, namely:

  • desktop (bed);
  • drive – jigsaw;
  • a rocker for attaching the file and keeping it taut.

The machines differ in such parameters as power (determined by the power of a hand-held power tool), the working stroke of the saw, and the method of its fastening.

Of course, an important role is also played dimensions products, including the area of the working surface of the table, which allows for better processing of certain workpieces.

All other parameters (operating modes, laser illumination, etc.) are determined by the characteristics of the hand tool itself.

Step-by-step instructions for making the machine

In this section we will analyze in detail every step of creating our future friend and indispensable assistant. The main stages of our work:

  • Preparatory stage;
  • Creation of blanks;
  • Assembly.

It is also necessary to note what tools and materials we will need.

Materials and structural elements:

  • plywood 10, 12 or 14 mm. Below is a table with plywood parameters.
  • spring;
  • pair of bearings;

Tool:

as well as other tools.

For reference, table on plywood parameters:

Plywood thickness, mm Layers of plywood, no less Sanded plywood Unsanded plywood Maximum deviation, mm Different thickness Deviation, mm Different thickness 3 mm 3 +0.3/-0.4 0.6 +0.4/-0.3 0.6 4 mm 3 +0.3/-0.5 +0.8/-0.4 1, 0 6 mm 5 +0.4/-0.5 +0.9/-0.4 9 mm 7 +0.4/-0.6 +1.0/-0.5 12 mm 9 +0.5 /-0.7 +1.1/-0.6 15 mm 11 +0.6/-0.8 +1.2/-0.7 1.5 18 mm 13 +0.7/-0.9 +1.3/-0.8 21 mm 15 +0.8/-1.0 +1.4/-0.9 24 mm 17 +0.9/-1.1 +1.5/-1, 0 27 mm 19 +1.0/-1.2 1.0 +1.6/-1.1 2.0 30 mm 21 +1.1/-1.3 +1.7/-1.2

Preparatory stage

  • draw up sketches and make a drawing of the future product,
  • make paper patterns for future elements and details
  • stick templates onto blanks for future parts.

There are two ways to make templates - take tracing paper and draw the kennels of the future workpiece on it. This has been done since ancient times, since nothing is needed for this except a ruler and a pencil.

However, if you have a computer and a printer, of course A3 would be nice, but A4 is also suitable (you just have to print several sheets and then glue them together), then the process of drawing with a pencil and ruler can be replaced by drawing the contours of the blanks on the computer.

Then we cut it out with a stationery blade or just a sharp knife.

After the template is ready, it needs to be glued to the workpiece.

Creating blanks

At this stage you need to do:

  • Cut the blanks exactly according to the template,
  • Process the workpieces - align the ends, remove burrs
  • Drill the necessary holes;
  • Make grooves with a file;
  • Drill out the seats for the bearings;
  • Select grooves with a router for the lid and a jigsaw seat;
  • The blanks are cut into circular saw or on a homemade sawing machine from a jigsaw.

    We process the workpieces on a grinder or grinding machine sawing defects:

    • burrs,
    • unevenness,
    • chips

    We drill technological holes.

    We sharpen the grooves with a file.

    We drill out the seats for the bearings with a feather drill or a Forstner drill.

    We make the necessary technological grooves for the quick-release cover and for the jigsaw seat using a router.

    Assembly

    At this stage you need to do:

  • Assembling the main parts using glue;
  • Assembling the main parts with screws;
  • Grinding of workpieces;
  • Varnish coating;
  • SKD assembly;
  • Secure the base;
  • Secure the cover (frame);
  • Press in the bearings;
  • Install the bracket;
  • Install the spring;
  • Install the saw plate;
  • Making technological holes for jigsaw controls;
  • Manufacturing of fasteners for the saw (upper and lower);
  • Installation of a jigsaw and file;
  • Adjustment of the saw in two axes;
  • Fabrication and insertion of the plate;
  • We assemble the parts using glue and fix the parts with clamps.

    Further fixation is carried out using screws and a screwdriver:

    After assembling the parts, you need to grind them to correct irregularities and remove burrs so as not to injure your hands when operating the future machine.

    We assemble the main structure using screws.

    We fix the base.

    We attach the lid (table top).

    We press in the bearings. Pressing can be done either using a clamp or a vice, or you can simply hammer it in with a hammer.

    We install the bracket. It should be noted that the bracket must be fastened without over-tightening the nut - there must be free movement. To do this, use a self-locking nut and only tighten it slightly.

    Installing the spring should not be difficult. You need to do it as shown in the photo below.

    For future fastening of the file, you need to make a simple clamp in the form of a plate with two holes. It must also be installed on the bracket using a self-locking nut. Moreover, the backlash of the plate in the seat is very important because the bracket moves, and a clamped plate will restrict its movement.

    Below is a sketch of the design of the upper attachment point for the file.

    Then it is necessary to make technological holes for the jigsaw controls so that it is convenient to change the engine speed, you can gain access to the start button and its lock.

    There is another solution that makes it more convenient to turn on the tool - this is to place in an easily accessible place on the machine body an socket and a switch that would turn the voltage on and off in the socket.

    We plug the jigsaw cord into a socket, and it turns out that we will turn it on and off using a switch installed in a place convenient for us. However, this is a matter of taste.

    So, below is the manufacture of technological holes on the body.

    This is what the controls look like when they are now available.

    Now you need to make clamps for the file itself. The principle is simple - take a bolt and make a cut at the base of the head, but not all the way. In the future, the file itself will be inserted into this cut. The principle is shown in the photo below.

    This is how the upper saw attachment unit is installed and assembled.

    The lower unit is almost similar to the upper one, except that it is not a plate that is used, but a standard file (you can use a “BU” one), almost the entire cutting part is sawed off with a grinder (angle grinder) and the shank is left. A hole is made in the remaining cutting part with a similar bolt with a slot at the base of the head, into which the file will also fit. The principle is shown below.

    After the file is secured, we install the jigsaw itself. We fasten it with bolts with countersunk heads so that they do not stick out on the tabletop of the machine.

    We fix the file into the upper and lower clamps.

    Now we need to adjust the perpendicularity of the file relative to the table of our machine. To do this, you can use a square, or, as in our case, just a block that is precisely trimmed. We make the adjustment as follows. To adjust the file left/right, the top plate is adjusted - its displacement on the axis - respectively, in the desired direction.

    And to adjust the saw blade position forward/backwards, the saw blade mounting unit itself is shifted forward or backward.

    The machine is almost ready, all that remains is to make and install the plate that surrounds the jigsaw file. It can be made from PCB or any piece of sheet plastic.

    This completes the manufacturing of the jigsaw machine.
    We hope that the material presented was useful to you.

    Do-it-yourself jigsaw machine - remaking hand tools + Video

    A tabletop jigsaw machine will be useful to every craftsman who cuts out thin parts. However, it is not always possible and meaningful to purchase a full-fledged machine. In that case, get down to business and make it yourself!

    The structure of a jigsaw machine - what lies inside?

    Jigsaw machines are more related to special tools than to devices that are needed as to an experienced master, and for the amateur who manages the garage. Their purpose comes down to a special task, namely cutting out complex curved contours from sheet materials.

    A special feature of such machines is the execution of cuts without violating the integrity of the external contour.

    Most often, sawing occurs on wooden and derivative materials (plywood, chipboard, fiberboard), although modern machines equipped with appropriate saws can also work with other materials, for example, plastic or plasterboard.

    Such equipment has found application in the music industry (making musical instruments) and, of course, in the furniture industry. Those who like to make things in their own workshop also buy such units.

    The structure of a traditional jigsaw machine, designed according to all the rules, looks like this: working surface, on which the saw is mounted, hides the drive (electric motor) and the crank structure underneath.

    The tension mechanism can be located either below or above the machine.

    To process a part, it must be placed on the workbench. Many models have the ability to rotate it under different angles to make bevel cuts. Stops and guides on the surface, as well as swivel mechanism may have markings, which greatly simplifies and speeds up the work.

    The length of the cut depends on the length of the work table - most models are limited to 30-40 cm. Electric motor power is an important, but still far from the most fundamental factor, since the machine has a huge reserve of unclaimed power.

    For example, for a home workshop or even small production, an “engine” of only 150 W is sufficient.

    Standard jigsaw machines are considered to be devices with an amplitude of movement of around 3-5 cm and a vibration frequency of up to 1000 per minute. Many models provide a change in speed mode for different materials.

    The jigsaw file itself is usually made up to 35 cm long and is capable of sawing material up to 10 cm thick.

    The width of the files can vary in a fairly wide range - from very thin two-millimeter to coarser ten-millimeter, with a thickness from 0.6 mm to 1.25 mm.

    Even the thickest and widest file will easily break if you do not provide sufficient tension along the entire length of the file. Leaf and coil springs are used for this.

    Quite often, such machines are equipped with an air pump, which cleans the cut from sawdust by blowing it, as well as a drilling unit.

    The latter device is especially useful, because in this case the master does not need to be distracted by the connection electric drill and drilling a hole - everything happens on the working plane of the machine. Of course, you have to pay for convenience!

    How to make a jigsaw with your own hands from a manual jigsaw?

    On the Internet you will find many different designs homemade machines, but most of them boil down to repurposing a manual jigsaw into this machine.

    By using your ingenuity and watching the video, you can easily make a homemade jigsaw from this tool. The jigsaw only needs a little modification.

    In fact, it plays the role of a machine drive and a crank mechanism, but the rest needs to be thought out and implemented.

    Of course, manufacturers are trying to please consumers in this area as well, offering their own platform options for fast and convenient rework, however, in reality only you can make a device that suits your needs.

    So, the first step is to make a support table, for which sheet metal is most often used.

    You need to make a beveled oblong hole in it for the saw blade and holes for fasteners (countersunk screws are recommended), and attach the jigsaw to the bottom of the support table.

    This structure can only be strengthened wooden table. You can go beyond this and install guide rails.

    The convenience of such a device lies in the fact that in addition to performing functions that are not entirely inherent to it, you can always disconnect the drive and with a slight movement of your hand turn it back into a manual jigsaw! If you constantly need this tool for work, it makes sense to choose a jigsaw specifically for the machine - it will be cheaper than spending money on a real machine.

    Advantages and disadvantages - we continue to modify!

    But such a unit inherits not only the advantages of the tool, but also its disadvantages, in particular, the file is too wide for filigree work, which significantly limits the curvature of the lines. If there is a need for this, there will be a way out.

    So far, our machine differs from the classic jigsaw unit in the absence of springs that would ensure sufficient tension on the file.

    But it’s quite easy to build a simple rocker, which on one side will be under the tension of springs, and on the other, fixed to a nail file.

    There is another option - to clamp the nail file between two guide rollers, but the first option is still more reliable. Don't forget to turn off the pendulum action on your jigsaw before you start using your homemade machine.

    There is another design - if your tool is powerful enough, then it can only serve as a drive in a structure of two rocker arms, between which a nail file is stretched.

    The movement is transmitted through a file attached to the lower rocker.

    Machine from a sewing machine - giving a second life to old tools!

    If you inherited a foot-operated or manual sewing machine from your grandmother or mother, consider yourself the owner of an excellent jigsaw machine! Of course, for this you need to “work a little magic” on the machine.

    First, remove the thread weaving device, which is usually located at the bottom of the machine. There is nothing complicated about it, just unscrew two bolts.

    Then we knock out the cotter pin and remove the drive shaft leading to the thread weaving mechanism.

    Having unscrewed the top panel that protects the mechanisms, it is necessary to expand the slot in which the needle went. Be guided by the needs and width of the nail file that you will use in your work.

    Files for a jigsaw of this kind also need to be slightly modified, namely cut to maximum length needles that could be used on this machine.

    Grinding off the upper teeth and sharpening bottom part on the tip, all you have to do is insert the file into the needle holder and test your machine in action!

    The idea of creating a homemade jigsaw is most often due to the disadvantages that factory hand tools have. You can make a small tabletop machine with your own hands, which will include a pusher, a reciprocating motor, and a saw tension system. In this case, you do not need complex drawings - once you understand the essence, it is easy to achieve the result.

    How to make your own installation

    The desire to create a homemade jigsaw may arise for several reasons:

  • There is no power supply in the workshop, but it is possible to use low-power internal combustion engines.
  • There are pneumatic motors, but the compressor power is not enough for a serial tool.
  • The electric motor is powered by batteries or solar panels; the power of the source is not enough to use a power tool.
  • It is required to obtain saw motion parameters that are unattainable using a commercial tool.
  • Designing a jigsaw is not difficult. A typical structure looks like this:

    The installation is easy to adapt to any torque source. A pair of pulleys (one is located on the engine shaft, the other drives the crank mechanism) allows you to vary the gear ratio, reducing the load on the power unit and allowing you to get the required speed (they are also responsible for the number of saw strokes per minute) on the actuator.

    A machine built according to the above scheme can have a very different configuration; the material of manufacture is also selected individually. An example of a finished installation looks like this:

    Disadvantages of a manual jigsaw

    A manual jigsaw is designed to form even cuts. In this case, as the rollers, rod, and pusher wear out, the saw may wobble, deviate from a straight line, and change the angle of attack. Regardless of the quality of the tool components, the following features are always present:

  • When the saw becomes dull, there is a deviation from a straight line when cutting material of uneven density (for example, chipboard Low quality). The saw is capable of leaving the cutting line when it encounters a knot in the wood.
  • When trying to make a curved radius cut, you can observe the following picture: the upper cutting line, which the worker follows, follows an exact trajectory, the lower one deviates, goes to the side, the radius becomes larger. The higher the wear of the tool and the lower the sharpness of the saw, the more pronounced this phenomenon is.
  • Some materials cannot be worked using a pick-up or bottom feed of the saw. The carpenter is required to move the tool forward extremely evenly, which is impossible to do very accurately; as a result, the saw beats along the entry and exit path.
  • It is even more difficult to work with thin saws designed for curved cuts. Without practice, it is very difficult to achieve a good result, especially on thick slabs or wood materials. Let's look at how you can make a carpenter's job easier and the result better.

    Standard solutions

    The machine from a manual jigsaw is made on the basis of a simple table. This device is common and mass-produced; samples can be seen in the photographs below.

    The mechanics of work are simple:

    • Jigsaw machine holds the instrument clearly, ensuring no interference human factor(the hand may move the jigsaw unevenly).
    • The presence of a support allows you to move the device without deviations along the trajectory.

    With the help of a table, jigsaws begin to cut in a straight line, but the capabilities of such a device are limited.

    If you remove the side fence and try to guide the workpiece, forming a curved cut, the same problems of saw deflection arise. The problem can be solved by using a simple saw, rigidly fixed with a pair of rollers.

    Making curved cuts is now convenient and fast. What homemade and industrial products of this type look like is shown in the following photos.

    Tension devices for curved cuts

    To perform very thin and precise shaped cuts, you can make a machine from a jigsaw with a saw blade tension system. The idea of creating it yourself is as follows:

  • A very thin saw is used, ideally for a hand jigsaw.
  • A clamp is attached to the rod of the power tool, which will tighten the cutting blade.
  • The trajectory stabilization system will regulate both one freedom of movement and two (horizontal and vertical).
  • A hand jigsaw clamp is used as a tension block, to which an adapter is made, which in turn is inserted into the clamping device of the power tool rod. To ensure adjustment of one freedom of movement, a pair of angles and a bolt are used. The result of the implementation of the idea is presented in the following photo.

    The saw provides clearly vertical movement, good tension can be created, but there is a mandatory runout in the horizontal direction. The canvas comes with a pick-up and does not move in a straight line.

    The development of this idea is in the next photo. Here the part that fixes the trajectory moves, and the metal clamp provides structural rigidity and mechanical resistance.

    The system is stabilized in two degrees of freedom, the cut made with its help is neat and precise. By using a diamond-coated cord for a hand jigsaw, you can cut glass without creating messy chips on the edges.

    Accessories for extremely delicate work

    If you need to work extremely delicately and slowly, you will need to reduce the force on the cutting blade while maintaining strong tension and precise movement of the file. To do this, a homemade jigsaw is equipped with spacer devices with long arms.

    In this case, the power tool does not operate in the cutting zone, but at some distance. This allows, depending on the wishes of the carpenter, to regulate the force, speed and amplitude of movement of the saw. One of the options for implementing the idea is shown in the following photo.

    Depending on the needs of the master, the structure can be made of steel, have additional fixing zones, and the power tool cannot be installed rigidly, but with the ability to move within its support beam.

    In practice, such solutions are rarely used. For delicate work that is performed constantly, it is much more profitable to purchase a specialized band saw, which will ensure quality and productivity.

    As can be seen from the presented designs, a jigsaw can even be made from sewing machine having a moving rod.

    DIY tabletop jigsaw | Construction portal

    A tabletop jigsaw is an indispensable item for any owner who is used to doing household work on his own.

    Electric jigsaws are especially good for residents of the private sector, hobbyists manual labor and country holidays. The desktop electric model has gone quite far from its prototype, an ordinary manual jigsaw.

    A desktop jigsaw makes it easier and faster to cut, not to mention improving quality.

    DIY jigsaw machine - drawings and video details

    Since childhood, we have been familiar with the technology of sawing with a jigsaw. The principle is simple - a stationary part is placed on a stand with a technological cutout, the cut is made by moving the saw. The quality of work depends on the steadfastness of the hands and the skill of the worker.

    In this article we will tell you how to make a jigsaw machine yourself. For those who don’t want to bother and are ready to buy a factory tool, a review article by Viktor Tagaev will be useful - 11 popular jigsaw machines

    In this way, you can literally cut lace from thin wooden or plastic blanks. However, the process is labor-intensive and slow. Therefore, many craftsmen thought about small-scale mechanization.

    A simple design from the last century

    More in the magazine Young technician“Drawings were offered on how to make a jigsaw machine with your own hands. Moreover, the design does not involve an electric drive; the drive operates from muscular force, like a knife sharpener.

    The machine consists of main parts:

    • bed (A)
    • work table (B) with slot for canvas
    • lever system (B) for holding the saw blade
    • flywheel (G), which is the primary drive pulley
    • crank mechanism (D), combined with a secondary drive pulley, and driving the levers (B)
    • pedal assembly (E) with a crank mechanism driving the flywheel (D)
    • saw blade tensioner (W)

    The master uses his foot to move the flywheel (D). Using a belt drive, the crank mechanism (D) connected to the lower arm (B) rotates. A file is stretched between the levers; the degree of tension is regulated by a lanyard (G).

    With a well-balanced flywheel, sufficient smooth running of the saw blade is ensured, and such a homemade jigsaw machine allows you to massively cut out the same type of workpiece, saving time and effort. In those days, jigsaw files were produced in the form of a flat, unidirectional strip.

    Therefore, to obtain patterns of complex shapes, it was necessary to rotate the workpiece around the canvas. The dimensions of the workpiece are limited by the length of the arms (B).

    From a mechanical jigsaw to an electric one one step

    The foot drive cannot provide real freedom of action and uniformity of the saw stroke. It makes more sense to use an electric motor for the crank mechanism. However, if you use a tabletop jigsaw occasionally, there is no point in making a stationary structure with its own motor.

    Popular: Do-it-yourself laser from a DVD drive - save on purchase

    You can use home power tools. For example, a screwdriver with a rotation speed controller.
    The materials used are literally from wood scraps and old trash. The only critical part is the bed. It is better to make it from durable plywood with a thickness of at least 18 mm.

    We make all connections using wood screws; the joints can be coated with PVA glue. From the same material we assemble a support pedestal for the lever rod. The design of the support should not have any play; the subsequent accuracy of the entire machine depends on its strength.

    The lever structure is assembled from wooden blanks. Of course, ordinary pine bars will not work here. It is necessary to use oak or beech. Don't let the cost of such material scare you - legs from an old chair are perfectly used for levers. We cut out the straightest sections - and a durable lever mechanism is ready.

    At the ends of the levers we make longitudinal cuts into which we install fastenings for saw blades for jigsaw machines. The mount itself is a metal plate 2-3 mm thick with holes. The upper hole is for fastening in the lever, the lower one is used to clamp the saw blade. For convenience, we use wing nuts.

    The lower arm has a similar design in a mirrored design.

    We install the lever system in the frame. We connect the rear parts of the levers with a screw tie (lanyard). With its help, the tension of the saw blade is adjusted.

    For convenience, you can install a support spring. In addition to its main function, it will serve as a buffer, softening jerks during the reciprocating movement of the mechanism.

    The crank mechanism is made of plywood 10-12 mm thick. To secure the axis of rotation, we use embedded bearings, which are seated in prepared holes in the racks.

    Popular: Chemical anchor for concrete and more

    The racks are connected to each other, forming a strong support for the flywheel. An ordinary bolt or stud is used as an axis. Strength class no less than 8.

    We connect the flywheel to the lower arm using a connecting rod. It is made from the same plywood. To increase the length of the seat for the axle, glue the two halves together. The rods for connecting to the lever are metal.

    We check the movement of the trapezoid - the levers should move freely, the tension of the blade does not change. Rotation axes can be lubricated grease. After combining all axial connections, we perform final fastening of the structure.

    The next stage is the manufacture of a desktop with a rotating mechanism. The rotary arc with a slot is cut out of plywood.

    We install the table on the frame, use a wing nut to tighten the rotating mechanism, or make a convenient flywheel from wood. Rotating the table top will allow you to cut the floor at different angles.

    An electric screwdriver is used as a drive. The cartridge is connected to the flywheel axis, and we get a removable electric motor. You use the electrical appliance as usual, and when you need to start a homemade jigsaw, you connect a screwdriver to the flywheel axis.

    We use a variable force clamp as a speed regulator.

    This simple device is made from a screw (from a table lamp or clamp) and a durable strap.

    No drawings are required for manufacturing; all structural elements are made “on site”. It is convenient to work with the machine, despite the simplicity of the design.

    You can make a machine according to this drawing, it doesn’t change the essence. Everything has been checked and it will work.

    A very instructive video by an English DIY master. A detailed story showing drawings and a demonstration of making a jigsaw machine from plywood, and a screwdriver was used as a motor, and a drill can also be used.

    Stationary design for intensive use

  • The bed is cut from heavy Chipboard boards(can be used old furniture), stand under lever design from textolite or hardboard. The levers themselves are made of square steel pipe. It is not necessary to buy blanks; they can be found in your garage (shed) or at recycling collection points
  • Fastening elements for the blade can be made independently or picked up from an old jigsaw (metal hacksaw). Use regular saw blades for a wood jigsaw. You can secure the clamps with screws, or using tin and a soldering iron.
  • It doesn't matter which device you take the drive from. The main thing is a working electric motor and a working gearbox. You don't need power, torque will be provided by gear ratios
  • The structure is assembled from standard gearbox elements. If necessary, the connecting rod fastening can be strengthened with an additional metal insert. All racks and fastening elements are made of metal. This way there will be less vibration and there will be no wear.

  • The material of the countertop does not matter, the main thing is rigidity and smoothness. It is necessary to provide for rotation around the longitudinal axis. Therefore, the working slot must be long
  • To keep your hands free while working, it is better to start the electric drive using a foot button or pedal. You can use an old sewing machine attachment or make a button yourself
  • In order to make a jigsaw more accurate, it is necessary to eliminate the backlash of the blade at the cutting point. To do this, install a roller guide
  • You can make it yourself, again from scrap materials.

    The lever supporting the guide is made movable so that the device can be used only when necessary.

  • The tension of the web in this design is carried out by a spring. The lower lever provides reciprocating movement, and the upper one is needed only to support the saw blade
  • Bottom line: you can make a jigsaw yourself without large financial costs. The main thing is to decide on the tasks and choose the optimal design.

    Homemade jigsaw machine from a jigsaw: do-it-yourself drawings

    If you are engaged in carving and make figures or parts from wood, plastic or similar material, you cannot do without a tool whose name is reminiscent of the distant Soviet past: a jigsaw.

    There are differences between jigsaws, now both “pioneer” elementary manual models and electric ones are available for sale. modern instruments, only vaguely reminiscent of the usual files.

    Homemade machine

    You can make a jigsaw yourself: technical literature and the Internet offer many diagrams and drawings of electric jigsaw machines.

    An example of manufacturing a jigsaw machine.

    A homemade jigsaw machine will help you professionally make smooth parts of the most bizarre shapes. First, you need to decide on the design that is most suitable for you.

    Technical description and components

    The schematic diagram of any jigsaw machine is the same for different models.

    It must contain the following parts:

    • file;
    • drive with a power of about 150 W;
    • rocker for tensioning the file;
    • working surface with graduation;
    • drilling block, etc.

    Consumables are fixed on the working surface. In advanced models, there are special devices for rotating movements of the part; in them, the working surface can change the angle of inclination.

    The size of the surface will depend on your production and creative plans: the larger the part you are going to cut, the larger your production table should be. Traditional sizes are usually around 30 – 40 cm.

    There are a wide variety of types of files. They depend primarily on the consumables. The dimensions of the parts for cutting also matter. Conventional saws for working with wood have a length of about 35–40 cm. They are able to saw parts made of wood or plastic with a thickness of no more than 100 mm.

    Another one the most important detail machine: crank assembly. Its function is difficult to overestimate: it is it that transmits movement from the drive to the saw, turning rotational motion into translational motion.

    Assembly drawing of a jigsaw machine.

    Due to this, the file begins to oscillate at a high frequency, the speed of such oscillations is on average about 800 - 1000 revolutions per minute. It is important to remember the amplitude of vertical vibrations; it should not exceed 50 mm.

    In advanced modern jigsaw models, the speed varies depending on the type of consumable. Most desktop models operate in two speed modes. Most often these are 600 and 1000 rpm.

    Model range of jigsaw machines

    Most often, machines differ in their electric drive power; the range of values is huge: from 90 to 500 W.

    These devices are also divided into varieties based on their fundamental design:

    • universal;
    • on suspension;
    • with graduation;
    • with the caliper in the lower position;
    • with double caliper.

    Jigsaws with lower support

    Diagram of machine design elements.

    The most used and popular models are machines with lower support. Their feature is the division of the working bed into upper and lower parts.

    If in the upper section there is only one device for sawing and cleaning, then in the lower section there are many working elements: an electric motor, a switch, a transmission unit and a control unit. This design makes it possible to saw sheets of materials of almost any size.

    Double slide machines

    A homemade jigsaw with a double support differs from the lower support by the presence in the upper section of a special additional bar and a work table with the ability to change the angle of inclination and overall height.

    These models are designed to work with oversized parts. This machine is easier to make than the previous model. There are restrictions on the materials that can be worked with: their thickness should not exceed 80 mm.

    Hanging machines

    The name speaks for itself: the model is movable, it works without a stand. The fundamental point in this design is the movement of the cutting file, and not the consumables. The module itself is attached to the ceiling, the saw is driven manually.

    All this provides serious advantages: in this way you can create the most complex patterns, the surface dimensions are not limited in any way.

    Devices with graduation

    Universal machines

    Such devices are usually called jigsaws. Their feature is the ability to perform several operations such as grinding, polishing, sawing, etc.

    How to make a jigsaw machine with your own hands?

    We will not dwell on the manufacture of simple machines: you can easily find this kind of manuals with video support on the Internet. Let's talk about homemade jigsaw machines.

    Do-it-yourself machine assembly.

    Here is the sequence of work for their manufacture:

    • We make the frame from a plywood sheet or plastic. The main thing is that the thickness is at least 12 mm. The function of the bed is a foundation, a working surface and a place for fixing mechanisms and an electric motor.
    • We place a special rocker with an eccentric on the opposite side. We connect them using a metal strip with bearings. All fastenings in the structure are screw.
    • We are installing the intermediate shaft. To do this, you need to prepare two bearings, place the pulley on the shaft as tightly as possible, then carefully secure it with screws. Similar actions are performed with the eccentric.
    • The amplitude of movements of the rocker must change. To do this, you need to change the place where the screw is attached, for which we drill exactly four threaded holes on the eccentric flange. The holes must be located at different distances from the axis. With a change in the mounting location of the screw, the amplitude of the rocker will change.
    • We make a rocking chair: these are nothing more than wooden rocker arms, into whose rear ends the screws that you made in the previous paragraph are inserted, these are tension screws. The rocker arms themselves are attached to the rack with hinges. We fix a file to the front ends of the rocker arms. The previous and current stages must be performed with special attention and care. The fact is that attaching the file is a fundamentally important thing. Rocker arms with plates are subject to constant loads during movement due to their rigid connection with screws.
    • A rocking chair requires a stand. It will be better if it is made from a whole piece of material. We make a groove for the first rocker arm on the top of the rack. At the lower end we place a special rectangular opening for the second rocker arm.

    Your machine is ready. We wish you great ideas and their high-quality implementation.

    Options for making a tabletop jigsaw

    The desktop jigsaw machine is designed for cutting out various parts with complex configurations from sheet materials. This tool is capable of working with MDF, chipboard, fiberboard and many others.

    Jigsaws can also cut out the internal contours of parts if you first make a small hole.

    This tool has a wide range of applications, since it is capable of providing high productivity, which cannot be achieved with a conventional hacksaw.

    The design diagrams of all jigsaw machines are usually the same. Having carefully examined the drawings where this tool is depicted, you can see the following structural components:

    • the bed, which is also often called the body. It is designed to accommodate all structural elements of the unit;
    • drive mechanism;
    • crank mechanism. It is necessary to convert the rotational energy of the motor shaft into the movements of the saw used during operation;
    • double rocker arm. Equipped with fasteners for a file and a tension device;
    • Desktop. In some modern models, it has a rotation mechanism that moves to a given angle.

    Homemade plywood jigsaw.

    How to make a machine from a jigsaw?

    To make a jigsaw from a manual jigsaw, you need to follow these instructions:

  • First you need to make a table where a homemade jigsaw will be installed in the future. For this purpose use any durable sheet material– thick plywood, metal and others.
  • They do it in the table through holes, designed for cutting blades and various fasteners.
  • The resulting jigsaw table is installed and securely fastened to a suitable wooden table.
  • The resulting table is equipped with guide rails.
  • Fixed at the bottom manual jigsaw, which allows you to replace the drive mechanism of the machine and many of its other structural elements.
  • Anyone can make such a jigsaw machine with their own hands. Its advantage is that at any time this unit can be quickly disassembled and only hand tools can be used.

    Homemade jigsaw table machine from a manual jigsaw

    How to make a more professional instrument?

    A homemade jigsaw machine can have all the qualities that are present in professional equipment. To make it you need to follow these instructions:

  • The bed is made from any durable material– 12 mm plywood, plastic, textolite and others. It should consist of a base, a housing to accommodate all structural units and a work table.
  • On the other side, a rocking chair with an eccentric is placed. They need to be connected to each other using metal plates with sleeve-type bearings. The resulting structure is installed using screws.
  • The intermediate shaft is formed from several bearings.
  • The metal pulley is placed very tightly on the shaft and the screw connection is secured.
  • To change the movement characteristics of the rocker, 4 round holes with threads are made on the eccentric flange. They should be placed at different distances from the center line. The amplitude of movement of the rocking chair is regulated by the location of the screws.
  • The rocking chair is formed from wooden rocker arms, which are attached on a hinge to the stand.
  • Small cuts are made at the rear ends of the rocker arms. They are designed to install tension screws.
  • The front ends of the rocker arm are designed for mounting a saw blade. It moves using special metal hinges. Before attaching the file, it is installed in a groove located on the work table.
  • The rocking stand is made from a single piece of durable material. At its upper end a groove is made for installing the rocker arm, and near the lower end a small rectangular hole is cut out for mounting the second rocker arm.
  • Types of metal pulleys

    How to make a machine from a sewing machine?

    A sewing machine makes an excellent jigsaw, which is equipped with a saw blade movement regulator. It is not difficult to do if you follow these instructions:

  • The thread weaving mechanism is removed from the bottom of the machine. On some models it may be located in a different location.
  • For dismantling of this node You need to remove several bolts, then remove the cotter pin and drive shaft.
  • The top protective panel is unscrewed. After this, the groove along which the sewing needle moves must be expanded to suit the parameters of the file.
  • The cutting element itself is also slightly modified. It is trimmed according to the length of the sewing needle.
  • It is not necessary to make an adapter to install the cutting element. Instead, you can grind down the upper incisors a little and process the lower zone of the blade.
  • The file is inserted into the needle holder and work begins.
  • All presented options for manufacturing jigsaw machines are very successful. The resulting units are distinguished by high labor productivity, and making them is not at all difficult. Depending on their skills, each master will be able to choose best model homemade equipment.

    DIY jigsaw machine: drawings, description and video

    A tabletop jigsaw is a specialized piece of equipment that is widely used in the carpentry industry. It is used for cutting lumber and cutting shaped parts from various materials.

    A distinctive characteristic of such units is the ability to make cuts while maintaining the integrity of the outer contour of the workpiece.

    Depending on which file is installed on the structure, the machine allows you to process natural wood and its derivatives, as well as plastic bases and even metal.

    Such a universal device is indispensable when carrying out construction and repair activities, as well as in the production of furniture and souvenirs. It is used for artistic cutting of components for decorative items and interior items.

    Often, such equipment is purchased not only by specialists, but also by home craftsmen for domestic purposes. Users often wonder how to make a jigsaw with their own hands, because sometimes buying a factory unit is irrational, and besides, assembling a homemade jigsaw is absolutely not difficult, the main thing is to know the features of its design.

    Below is a diagram of the instrument that will help you better understand its structure.

    Device and principle of operation

    A stationary factory sample includes a work table for a jigsaw, on which a unit with a cutting element is fixed, as well as an electric drive and a crank mechanism installed under the table top. The tension unit can be installed either at the top or at the bottom of the machine.

    Many models of units allow you to cut material at different angles, which is necessary when making bevel cuts. Very often, for greater ease of operation, markings are applied to the rotating mechanism, stops and guides.

    The length of the cut directly depends on the dimensions of the jigsaw table, and in most models this parameter is limited to 30–40 cm.

    If you start creating a jigsaw machine with your own hands, please note that high power is one of the the most important parameters any working tool, but in the case of electric jigsaw This is not entirely true, and for household purposes or a mini carpentry shop, a 150-watt unit is sufficient. More important element here is a crank mechanism, which is responsible for the quality of transmission of engine torque into the reciprocating motion performed by the cutting element in a vertical position.

    A standard jigsaw tool, which can be used for household purposes, is characterized by an oscillation frequency of up to 1000 movements per minute with an amplitude of 3-5 cm. Many samples provide speed adjustment for processing various materials.

    In most cases, such a tool is equipped with a saw, the length of which is up to 35 cm, which allows cutting parts with a thickness of up to 10 cm.

    The width of the files can be completely different, from ultra-thin (2 mm) to coarser (10 mm), while their width varies between 0.6 - 1.25 mm.

    In order for the cutting element, regardless of its thickness, to serve for a long time without breakages and cracks, it is necessary to provide it with optimal tension along its entire length, for which they resort to the help of screw and spring springs, and this feature must be taken into account when assembling table jigsaw with your own hands.

    As an additional option, factory machines are equipped with an air pump to remove sawdust from the cutting line.

    A unit with a drilling unit will also be useful, however, you have to pay extra for each additional unit, so it is better to immediately decide on the need for individual elements of the device.

    In principle, we have mentioned all the main points of the configuration and type of unit for sawing workpieces, so in the next section of the article we suggest learning how to make a homemade jigsaw machine, especially since more than one home craftsman is interested in this issue.

    Assembly instructions

    Many craftsmen make a jigsaw from a refrigerator compressor or an ordinary drill, converting their hand tool into an electric one.

    You can also set the cutting blade in motion using a motor from a washing machine, but we propose to consider creating jigsaw machines from hand-held jigsaws and old sewing machines.

    Those who want to create a jigsaw machine with their own hands can use the following drawing of its design:

    Remaking a manual jigsaw

    When starting work, first of all they make a table for a jigsaw, for which they use a sheet of thick plywood or metal, in which it will be necessary to cut through holes for the cutting blade and fasteners, and through them the manual unit placed below is fixed to the supporting structure.

    The convenient thing is that, upon request, the machine, made in a short time, can quickly be disassembled, and you can use a manual jigsaw again.

    We mentioned earlier that the standard unit is equipped with springs that provide the saw with the required level of tension, so here you cannot do without a rocker arm, one edge of which is under the tension of the springs, and the second provides attachment to the cutting element of a jigsaw machine, converted from an electric jigsaw.

    You can use another option, in which you need to clamp the canvas between two guide rollers, but this option is less reliable. Thanks to such simple steps, the manufacture of a machine from a jigsaw can be carried out without difficulties in a short time.

    We remind you that before starting work on a homemade jigsaw, be sure to turn off the pendulum motion on it.

    A jigsaw from a sewing machine is also assembled quickly and easily, and in in this case you will get a full-fledged homemade jigsaw with a saw stroke regulator, which is provided by the speed switch on the sewing equipment.

    So, initially the thread weaving mechanism, placed by most manufacturers in the lower part of the device, is removed.

    To do this, you just need to unscrew a couple of bolts, after which the cotter pin is knocked out and the drive shaft leading to the thread weaving unit is removed.

    By the way, jigsaw saws are slightly modified, or rather, cut according to the size of the longest needle that could be installed on this device. In order not to make an adapter for fixing the cutting element to the seat, it is enough to grind off the upper incisors and sharpen the lower part of the blade.

    Now everything is ready to install the cutter in the needle holder, and you can begin the process of cutting out the workpieces, as shown in the video.

    Making an even, straight cut with a budget jigsaw is not at all easy. The reasons are simple - backlash in the jigsaw, the file slipping, little experience of the craftsman. All these reasons can be easily eliminated with the help of a homemade frame with guides for the base of the jigsaw.

    The presented design allows you to cut wood, sheet metal, plastic and even paper at an angle of 30, 45 or 90 degrees. Purely for the sake of experiment, I cut up an old magazine and, as you can see in the photo, the cut comes out almost like it came from a printing house.

    Required materials and tools:

    • Sheet of fiberboard or plywood 400 x 700 mm;
    • Slats 30 x 50 and 20 x 30 mm;
    • Self-tapping screws;
    • M6 studs;
    • Wing nuts M6;
    • Furniture fittings (screw nuts) M6;
    • Tools: jigsaw, screwdriver/drill, square.

    Step-by-step instructions for making jigsaw guides

    1. As a base for the village, I took a door made of DPV from an old cabinet. You can use a sheet of plywood. Based on this, we mark the centers of future supporting elements from wooden slats - the distance from the edge should be equal to half the thickness, in my case 15 mm with a slatted thickness of 30 mm.

    2. Along the perimeter we make holes for screws with a diameter of 3 mm with chamfers so that the heads of the screws do not protrude above the plane of the base of the frame. There are 2-3 holes on each side.

    3. The next step is to use wood screws to fasten the base supports from 30x50 mm slats one by one. Supports are necessary so that there is free space for the jigsaw file.

    Finished base from the reverse side.

    And from the working side.

    4. Next, we make guides from two 20x30 mm slats and a base from 10 mm plywood, as well as jigsaw travel limiters from a slats of the same section.

    The length of the guides must correspond to the length of the bed, and the width is selected individually for each jigsaw. Looking ahead, I will present a photo from which the principle of selecting the width of a plywood base is clearly visible.

    5. First you need to dismantle the base of the jigsaw. Next, applying a 20x30 mm strip, we make markings for fastening with self-tapping screws.

    6. Place the batten under the sheet of plywood, with the markings remaining on top!

    We make three holes for self-tapping screws with chamfers to “hide” the fastener heads.

    We attach the rail to the base of the guide.
    7. We attach the second side rail only after trying on the base - it should move freely between the slats, but without play. After “trying on” the slats, we temporarily fasten it on top with two self-tapping screws, and then, by analogy with the sixth step, we fix the second slatting and unscrew the temporary screws.

    8. We secure the travel limiters with two self-tapping screws.

    9. Based on the completed markings, in the first step we make marks with a pencil along the edges of the guide.

    Using the marks, we mark and make holes with a diameter of 6 mm.

    10. Using the holes made in the previous step as a jig, we make holes in the base.

    11. Use a 10 mm drill to make blind holes 10 mm deep.

    12. Screw furniture fittings into the resulting holes using a hexagon. They can be purchased at hardware stores.

    We screw M6 studs into the footings.

    13. We perform similar operations on the guide.

    Then we drill out the internal thread of the fitting with a 6 mm drill.
    14. Mount the guide on the studs.

    The movement should be free, without jamming.
    15. Using the markings, we make a through hole for the jigsaw file (don’t forget to take into account the protruding pin).

    16. We carry out a longitudinal cut with a jigsaw; at this step it is important not to rush, performing the cut at low speed with the pendulum mode turned off (mark “0”) in order to get the most even cut without moving the file.

    17. Using a square, we attach a stop from a 20x30 mm rail perpendicular to the guide.

    Design features

    The design diagrams of all jigsaw machines are usually the same. Having carefully examined the drawings where this tool is depicted, you can see the following structural components:

    • the bed, which is also often called the body. It is designed to accommodate all structural elements of the unit;
    • drive mechanism;
    • crank mechanism. It is necessary to convert the rotational energy of the motor shaft into the movements of the saw used during operation;
    • double rocker arm. Equipped with fasteners for a file and a tension device;
    • Desktop. In some modern models, it has a rotation mechanism that moves to a given angle.

    How to make a machine from a jigsaw?

    To make a jigsaw from a manual jigsaw, you need to follow these instructions:

    1. First you need to make a table where a homemade jigsaw will be installed in the future. To do this, use any durable sheet material - thick plywood, metal and others.
    2. Through holes are made in the table for the cutting blade and various fasteners.
    3. The resulting jigsaw table is installed and securely fastened to a suitable wooden table.
    4. The resulting table is equipped with guide rails.
    5. A manual jigsaw is attached below, which makes it possible to replace the drive mechanism of the machine and many of its other structural elements.

    Anyone can make such a jigsaw machine with their own hands. Its advantage is that at any time this unit can be quickly disassembled and only hand tools can be used.

    How to make a more professional instrument?

    A homemade jigsaw machine can have all the qualities that are present in professional equipment. To make it you need to follow these instructions:

    1. The frame is made from any durable material - 12 mm plywood, plastic, textolite and others. It should consist of a base, a housing to accommodate all structural units and a work table.
    2. On the other side, a rocking chair with an eccentric is placed. They need to be connected to each other using metal plates with sleeve-type bearings. The resulting structure is installed using screws.
    3. The intermediate shaft is formed from several bearings.
    4. The metal pulley is placed very tightly on the shaft and the screw connection is secured.
    5. To change the movement characteristics of the rocker, 4 round holes with threads are made on the eccentric flange. They should be placed at different distances from the center line. The amplitude of movement of the rocking chair is regulated by the location of the screws.
    6. The rocking chair is formed from wooden rocker arms, which are attached on a hinge to the stand.
    7. Small cuts are made at the rear ends of the rocker arms. They are designed to install tension screws.
    8. The front ends of the rocker arm are designed for mounting a saw blade. It moves using special metal hinges. Before attaching the file, it is installed in a groove located on the work table.
    9. The rocking stand is made from a single piece of durable material. At its upper end a groove is made for installing the rocker arm, and near the lower end a small rectangular hole is cut out for mounting the second rocker arm.

    How to make a machine from a sewing machine?

    A sewing machine makes an excellent jigsaw, which is equipped with a saw blade movement regulator. It is not difficult to do if you follow these instructions:

    1. The thread weaving mechanism is removed from the bottom of the machine. On some models it may be located in a different location.
    2. To dismantle this unit, you need to remove several bolts, then remove the cotter pin and drive shaft.
    3. The top protective panel is unscrewed. After this, the groove along which the sewing needle moves must be expanded to suit the parameters of the file.
    4. The cutting element itself is also slightly modified. It is trimmed according to the length of the sewing needle.
    5. It is not necessary to make an adapter to install the cutting element. Instead, you can grind down the upper incisors a little and process the lower zone of the blade.
    6. The file is inserted into the needle holder and work begins.

    All presented options for manufacturing jigsaw machines are very successful. The resulting units are distinguished by high labor productivity, and making them is not at all difficult. Depending on their skills, each master will be able to choose the best model of homemade equipment.
