Canary beaches with black sand. The best beaches in Tenerife

Tenerife, like the rest of the Canary Islands, located in the Atlantic Ocean, has an almost ideal climate, here you can swim and sunbathe all year round. Moreover, the conditions for this here are created by nature itself and are fantastic. The average annual water temperature in the ocean in Tenerife is 20 degrees, in the summer and autumn in the south it warms up to 23. Each part of the island has its own beaches, somewhere with volcanic black sand, somewhere with imported “white-yellow” sand. Some of them seem endless: wide and long, which is why they are crowded, others look more secluded, others seem as if they were specially created for surfers... Many beaches have been awarded the Blue Flag. The Blue Flag award is a guarantee high standards, certified by the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). Its presence indicates good quality water, its safety, quality infrastructure and protection environment. In the Canary Islands, this remuneration is under the control of the Regional Ministry of Health.

Tenerife beaches on the map:

Purple umbrellas - there is a description, pink - no description yet

All beaches, according to Spanish laws, are municipal, and therefore absolutely accessible and free to everyone. For this reason, there are no hotels in Tenerife with their own beach, although some of them have well-groomed areas for guests of expensive hotels. Only services can be paid here, such as: sun loungers with umbrellas, areas with toilets, showers, storage rooms, etc.

Since the island is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, and not some calm sea, most recreation areas are closed by breakwaters that hold back the elements.

For the less demanding public, there are more available options hotels near Playa del Duque:

You can get to Playa del Duque by bus number 467.

Playa de Fañabe and Playa Torviscas

Description : Fanabe Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag. Playa Fanabe (length 600 m and width 40 m) and Playa Torviscas (length 290 m and width 50 m) have practically no clear boundary between themselves; they merged into one long and wide strip of sand. The entire length of the coast is well protected by breakwaters from strong waves, so swimming on it becomes comfortable even for small children. Entry into the water at Fanabe is generally good - sandy, but a little further from the shore there are islands of slippery stones at the bottom that are exposed at low tide, which makes the coastline not very pretty and entry into the water more difficult. The Fanabe area is popular among tourists thanks to good combination: magnificent beach + hotels and apartments in the mid-price range.

Sand : In Playa Fanabe it is finely ground and has a dark gray color. Soft and comfortable for the feet, interspersed with small pebbles. The coastal recreation area is regularly cleaned by special equipment, so it is quite clean.

Infrastructure : Playa de Fañabe has both a landscaped area - with cafes, sun loungers under umbrellas and more substantial wooden "sofas" for two, and a "wild" part - free from infrastructure. There are several cafes on the coastline itself, sunbeds huddle around them, as the establishments offer various promotions such as: sunbed + drinks, etc. What pleases Fanabe beach is the presence of a sufficient number of free showers and “foot washers”. But there is only a paid toilet here; it is located approximately in the middle of the entire long Playa de Fañabe and Torviscas. In addition to the toilet, shower services are provided here (only cold water- cheaper, hot water is twice as expensive, luggage storage (which is very convenient! since theft is still present on the beaches of Tenerife). There is an equipped inpatient medical center here. And, of course, there are lifeguards on duty here. Visitors to Playa Torviscas can also take advantage of all these services.

Services/entertainment : on Fanabe beach there is also WATER SPORTS TENERIFE, where you can order water activities for every taste and adrenaline level. In the massage club, whose tents are located right on the shore, in several places, you can use the services of official massage, and not, as usual, illegal secrets.

On the embankment itself there is entertainment for children: a trampoline and a children's playground for the little ones.
The embankment above Playa de Fañabe is divided into two tiers: along the beach itself there is an endless series of restaurants (with special offers for drinks and lunches) and shops with souvenirs, clothes and all kinds of beach equipment. On the second line, which goes a little higher, there is also a nice promenade along the areas of hotels, shops and restaurants.

Hotels : There are no hotels on Playa de Fañabe with direct access to the beach. The most popular aparthotels on Playa Fanabe and Playa Torviscas:
Sol Sun Beach Apartamentos***
Los Olivos Beach***
Lagos de Fañabé Beach****

For a more sophisticated audience, there are luxury hotels of the famous IBEROSTAR chain: Hotel Iberostar Anthelia***** near Playa Fanabe and Iberostar Torviscas Playa Resort**** closer to Playa Torviscas.

Parking :

  1. are looking for free seats along the streets Calle Roma, Calle Paris, Calle Londres, Calle Valencia
  2. on Playa Torviscas - paid parking at the end of Calle Valencia (GPS 28.081382, -16.734996) - 5 euros
  3. at Playa Fanabe in CC Fañabe 1, at Calle Londres, 5 for 1 euro.
The closest public transport stop to Playa de Fañabe is Fañabé Plaza. Buses No. 417,447, 460, 467, 471, 473, 477 go here.

Playa la Pinta Puerto Colon (Playa Puerto Colon or La Pinta)

A small beach located in a bay where yachts and pleasure boats are parked. It is only 180 m long and 40 m wide. On one side, Puerto Colon Beach is closed by a breakwater, on the other by a breakwater made of huge stones, so the ocean here is quite calm. The sand is fine, gray in color, and the entry into the water is shallow, which makes this place attractive for families with small children. In the ocean there is an inflatable playground with slides and water attractions, which can be used for a fixed fee. And yet, due to the presence of yachts in the harbor, the water in Playa La Pinta is not considered clean enough compared to other recreation areas in Costa Adeje.

On La Pinta beach you can rent a sun lounger with a straw umbrella for 5 euros, or you can sit on your own towel. There is a free shower here.

Only a small walking path separates part of Playa Puerto Colon from the road. Behind the road there is the Puerto Colon shopping center, which houses cafes and restaurants. The main hotels located in close proximity to La Pinta beach are Flamingo Beach Mate and HOVIMA La Pinta Beachfront Family Hotel

Parking here is quite difficult; if you are not a guest of a nearby hotel, then you will have to look for a space only in the paid parking lot of a nearby shopping center.

Playa de El Bobo

Another small sandy beach in the Costa Adeje area, it has a length of 130 m and a width of 50 m. Playa del Bobo is maximally protected from the turbulent ocean by breakwaters, so here you can enjoy a relaxing holiday with children. The sand is fine, gray-yellow in color, entry into the water is good, sandy.

Half of Playa de El Bobo is occupied by rows of sun loungers and straw parasols, which can be used for 5 euros, the second half is completely given over to free seating. You can also take advantage of the free shower. There are no lifeguards here. Some people may find this place boring because there are no water activities offered here, but for those who want to take a break from the hustle and bustle, El Bobo is perfect. There is a small cafe on the shore where you can buy chilled drinks.

In close proximity to Playa del Bobo there is a spacious playground and a small shopping center. There is only one hotel with direct access to del Bobo beach - H10 Gran Tinerfe .

Playa del Troya

Description : Playa del Troya, located at the junction of the two main southern resorts of Costa Adeje and Playa de las Americas, is popular among tourists of all age categories - families with children, partying youth, and European retirees. The long and very wide sandy beach has also been awarded the Blue Flag. Despite the presence of breakwaters, Troy often has waves; this “restlessness” attracts those who want to ride small boards. The entry into the water is sandy, but the depth begins quite close to the shore. Troy Beach is always simply crowded with vacationers, but its size allows everyone to find a place. Troy has a lot of intrusive sellers of glasses, fruits, blankets, as well as masseuses of unknown origin. You need to watch your things more closely here, as thefts do happen.

Playa Troya, a breakwater of stones, seems to be divided into two parts: the larger one on the left is more crowded

The right side of the beach is small and calmer. There are very few sun loungers here, and vacationers mostly sit on their own towels/mats. Here, just like in the main part, you can ride catamarans.

Sand : dark gray in color, small, pleasant to the touch. The wooden paths on Playa del Troya go only at the very beginning, so it is best to walk on the hot sand in slippers so as not to burn your feet.

Infrastructure : there are 2 free showers here, but to be honest, the water pressure leaves much to be desired for several years now - apparently they are saving: (They also offer paid services: toilet - 1 euro, changing room - 1 euro, shower - 1 euro. Rent a sunbed + umbrella = 5 euros, each additional sunbed - 5 euros. There is a stationary medical center on the shore itself. There is only a small tent with refreshments and snacks. right side Playa del Troya, almost on the shore, is home to the trendy bar/restaurant Mounkey Beach Club. On the left side of Troya Beach begins the promenade of the Playa de las Americas resort, where the no less popular party restaurant Papagayo is located. There is a wide pedestrian road along Playa del Troy, and there are several nearby shopping centers, you can also find McDonald's here.

Services/entertainment : at Playas del Troya you can book any water activities: banana and ATV rides, flyboarding and parasailing. WATER SPORTS TENERIFE offers its services on most of the most popular beaches in Tenerife.
Hotels : The Playas del Troyas area is popular among tourists, as there is a huge selection of accommodation from simple apartments, for example in the Paraiso del Sol complex, to inexpensive four-star hotels:

Parking : We are looking for a free one along the nearest streets, there is no other option here.

Beaches of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos

Playa de las Americas is one of the oldest resorts in the south of Tenerife; the first hotels appeared here by the end of the 1960s. You can get there in just 20-25 minutes, and in about 1 hour. The hotel development of the area is very dense, there are a huge number of shopping centers and entire streets of brand stores, supermarkets with a large selection of fresh products, and an endless series of restaurants with cuisines from different nations of the world. Playa de las Americas has long been chosen by European retirees, having bought a huge amount of real estate, which they visit once or twice a year, and often rent out the rest of the time. There is nothing typically Spanish or authentic about the area, everything is quite standard, bustling and noisy due to the dense tourist population. Despite all of the above, there are only two beaches here, only one of which is suitable for swimming.

Playa del Camison

Description : very cozy Kamison beach, closed on both sides by large breakwaters, it is almost always calm, like the sea. Its length is 300 m and its width is 40 m. Kamison is framed by a beautiful promenade, which is planted with palm trees, some of which even live with large, beautiful parrots. There are no shops or shopping centers on this section of the embankment, so a cozy, calm atmosphere. Playa Camison, being the only one in the Playa de las Americas area, is always crowded. Some tourists prefer to sit on the grass, in the shade of palm trees. Unfortunately, annoying black sellers hang out here all the time :(

Sand : I can sing songs to Kamison’s little sand! Especially after the recent reconstruction of the local shore. Just recently, the color of the sand here was light gray, and the entry into the water was sandy only on the right side of the beach. Where, precisely for this reason, the bulk of the vacationers gathered, the remaining 2/3 of the entry into the water was rocky. But now everything has changed! Stunning white-yellow sand was brought to Playa Camison. Soft and delicate, you just want to endlessly pour it from palm to palm. Due to its color, it does not heat up as quickly under the rays of the scorching Canarian sun as gray or black sand. They also worked on the bottom, clearing it of large stones. Of course, the wave sometimes washes a couple of boulders to the shore, but this does not interfere so much when entering the ocean. This place is often chosen for holidays by families with small children, because there are simply wonderful conditions for their “sand” creativity. So you can’t expect peace and solitude from Kamison.

Infrastructure : There is a free shower in the middle of Playa del Camison. There used to be another shower in the right corner, but for some reason it was removed. But the shower pressure is excellent (unlike most similar beach showers), so people don’t linger and wash quickly. Camison has a free one! toilet, and even two - men's and women's. You can rent a sun lounger and umbrella for 6 euros (set), each additional sun lounger is also 6 euros. Although, I can hardly imagine what time you need to come here to find an empty sunbed. There is a tent with refreshments on the shore. There is no medical center. There are always rescuers on duty on Kamison.
Services/entertainment : at Playa del Camison you can choose some water activities, a tent selling them is located on the right side of the beach.

Hotels : Three hotels directly overlook Playa Camison: the super-mega, popular among tourists, apartment complex Parque Santiago III, the four-star Hotel Cleopatra Palace and the five-star, albeit with a small territory, Hotel Sir Anthony.

Parking : this issue is not easy at Kamison beach :(

  1. we are looking for nearby free places along the streets Avenida Rafael Puig Lluvina and Calle Luis Diaz de Losada, which is generally quite problematic;
  2. paid underground parking CC Safari (Golden Mile) - 1.8 euros/hour or 0.3 cent/min

Playa de Las Vistas

Description : the longest and most crowded beach of one of the oldest resorts in the south of Tenerife - Los Cristianos, its dimensions are 800 by 80 meters. Playa Las Vistas is loved by both numerous tourists and local residents. The wide coastline is divided in half into two bays by a figured embankment of huge boulders, which is crowned with a metal sculptural composition, such as a fountain. These two bays are closed by large breakwaters, thereby leaving the ocean quite calm even in windy weather. On this huge sandy beach there is a place for everyone to play beach basketball, tennis or football... Las Vistas is rightfully considered one of the best sandy beaches on the island. View Playa de las Vistas webcam

Infrastructure : Las Vistas beach is popular among vacationers for a reason. Along the entire shore there are free toilets and showers, several hundred sun loungers and sun umbrellas, which can be rented for 8 euros (chaise lounge + umbrella) or for 12 euros - a set of 2 sun loungers and an umbrella. Along Playa de Las Vistas there is an endless promenade lined with various small shops and restaurants where you can grab an inexpensive meal. Playa Las Vistas has a permanent medical center. There are lifeguards here. Here you can also find the popular McDonald's. On the left side, Playa de Las Vistas borders the port of Los Cristianos, where ferries sail between the Canary and other islands of the Atlantic Ocean.

Services/entertainment : There are a lot of water activities here: riding hydro scooters, banana boats, etc. Also, the shallow depth in this place made it possible to place an inflatable children’s playground in the ocean, which can be used for 15 euros per hour. You can take advantage of the services offered in the massage tents.
Hotels : Despite the enormous size of Playa de Las Vistas, there are only two apartment complexes located close to it: Tenerife Royal Gardens, which, by the way, stands exactly in the middle between Playa del Camison and Playa de Las Vistas, and Apartamentos Vista Sur, whose rooms can accommodate up to 7 people and have magnificent large terraces with stunning views of the ocean. Everything else, in general, is urban development, where you can, if you wish, find private apartments for rent. You can get there in just 20 minutes.

Parking :
  1. free seats along Avenida la Habana;
  2. paid underground parking CC Safari ("Golden Mile") - 1.8 euros/hour or 0.3 cent/min. Large, free space is always guaranteed.
  3. paid underground parking under Apartamentos Las Vistas - 1.5 euros/hour or 0.025 cent/min. But it is small, there is not always room.
  4. Paid parking at the port of Los Cristianos with per minute payment

Playa de Los Cristianos

Description : Playa de Los Cristianos is about 400 m long, but as much as 80 m wide. The sand on Los Cristianos beach is pale gray with beige color. A beautiful walking path, with many benches, frames Playa de los Cristianos. The bay is well protected from waves, this is a plus, but it is located directly in the port of Los Cristianos - this is a big minus, since this does not make the water here ideally clean. This beach is more loved by locals because it is located as close as possible to the residential area of one of the first resorts in the south of the island. You can have a snack in inexpensive cafes, since this area is still more designed for local residents than for tourists. The city authorities organize various entertainment programs here on holidays. There is a sailing school on Playa de Los Cristianos that offers courses, including for children. There is a free shower in the center, you can rent sun loungers and umbrellas, and there is a lifeguard on duty.

There are no hotels near Playa Los Cristianos, but there is simply a colossal selection of private apartments:

Playa de Los Cristianos is not easily accessible by public transport; the nearest bus stops are one and a half to two kilometers away. The nearest paid parking can be found at the port - payment is per minute.

All Tenerife beaches are municipal, so you can freely swim on any of the beaches you like, including those located on the territory of five-star hotels. The only thing you have to pay for (and then at your request) is a sun lounger, an umbrella, a shower and a toilet. A real Canarian beach is a black beach, or, to put it correctly, a beach of volcanic origin. In my opinion, black beaches are very unusual and beautiful. Tenerife white sand beaches are “artificial” beaches, since there is no white sand in Tenerife, it is brought from the Sahara Desert. Also characteristic feature All Tenerife beaches have breakwaters that stop waves and wind. Where there are no breakwaters, then this is the territory of surfers

When heading to the beach, be sure to use sun protection - the Canarian climate is very deceptive due to the constant cool winds, it seems that there is no heat at all, and then when you return home, you realize that you have already burned out. Therefore, be careful!

Well, let's go to the beaches of Tenerife? Perhaps I'll highlight seven of the best and most interesting beaches in Tenerife(see Tenerife beaches on the map):

1. Beaches of such resorts as Costa Adeje and Las Americas: Playa del Duque, Playa Torviscas and Playa Fanabe, Playa de Puerto Colon.

2. Beaches of the resort of Los Cristianos: Playa de las Vistas.

3. El Medano resort with the beach of the same name.

4. Beaches of the capital of the island of Santa Cruz de Tenerife: Playa Las Teresitas.

5. Beaches of the town of Puerto de la Cruz: Playa de Punta Brava, Playa Jardin.

6. Beaches of the resorts Los Gigantes, Puerto Santiago and La Arena: Playa de La Arena, Playa de Los Guyos.

7. Beach near the town of Playa de San Juan: Playa de Abama.

Map of Tenerife beaches

Let's start from the southern coast of the island, namely from the most important duo of the resort area: Costa Adeje and Las Americas (1 on the map of Tenerife beaches). I must say that getting to any beach will not be difficult since a large beautiful embankment stretches along the coast. The favorite and best beach here is Playa del Duque - Tenerife's white sand beach. It's pure picturesque beach, located in the area of expensive resort hotels, so everything here is always first class! Despite the breakwaters, there are waves but no more than 1-2 meters.

Playa Torviscas and Playa Fanabe are two neighboring beaches, merging with each other, forming one large beach, the length of which is 930 m. The sand near the beach is dark, I would say a mixture of gray and white sand. There are many cafes, restaurants, shops around.

Playa Torviscas and Fanabe

It is also worth noting the small beach of Playa Puerto de Colon, which is located next to the port. The beach is closed on both sides by stone embankments, so there are rarely waves here and the water warms up very well. Near the beach there are all possible cafes, restaurants, as well as a shopping center.

We descend further south and approach the resort of Los Cristanos (2 on the map of Tenerife beaches). There are two large white sand beaches in Tenerife - Playa de las Vistas and Playa Los Cristianos. But I recommend swimming only at the first one, since the second one is located in the port and is not entirely clean and suitable for swimming. Playa de las Vistas is considered the main beach of this resort, and truly deserves such an assessment. The beach is clean, beautiful, with an interesting fountain, which, as it turns out, regulates the waves.

El Medano resort is the kingdom of surfers. El Medano beach is beautiful, with white sand and clean water, without breakwaters - and therefore with big waves and strong wind, which is why it has become a favorite beach of surfers. But here I recommend at least just taking a walk and watching the windsurfers and kitesurfers.

And now we are moving to the north of the island and its capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife (4 on the map of Tenerife beaches). In general, it must be said that the beaches of the northern part of the island are characterized by capricious weather and a turbulent ocean, after all, in the south of the island, vacation is nothing short of a beach vacation! The most picturesque beach here is Playa Las Teresitas - a two-kilometer long beach with golden sand brought from the Sahara Desert. The golden shore, palm trees, mountain peaks, the blue of the ocean - this whole ensemble makes this beach the most unforgettable.

Playa Las Teresitas

The beach of the town of Puerto de la Cruz (5 on the map of Tenerife beaches) with the name Jardín is considered the best and largest beach here. This is a very beautiful black beach of Tenerife, picturesque, it is nicely decorated with beautifully planted plants and a small waterfall. There are many restaurants with fish cuisine in the vicinity of the beach. The beach is more suitable for soaking up the sun and catching waves; it is still difficult to swim here. Playa de Punto Brava is part of Jardin Beach, but since it is separated by stones, it is perceived as independent.

On the territory of the resorts Los Gigantes, Puerto Santiago and La Arena (6 on the Tenerife beach map) I will note two cool beaches, Playa de La Arena and Playa de Los Guyos. Playa de La Arena is a very beautiful black beach in Tenerife, but it is more suitable for adults, since there is a deep entry into the ocean (starting from 2-3 meters) and large waves. But Playa de Los Guyos is just right for children, and adults can also admire the beauty of the beach, surrounded on one side by high cliffs!

Near the town of Playa de San Juan (7 on the map of Tenerife beaches) it is worth noting the Playa de Abama beach. The beach was built specifically for the luxurious five-star Abama Golf Resort, but no one bothers you to come to the beach and be content with a clean clear water and a view of such a lagoon!

Choose a beach to your liking and enjoy your vacation!

The Canary Islands remain one of the most popular beach destinations among Russian tourists. They attract vacationers with unique landscapes, long sandy beaches, ample opportunities for active recreation and luxury hotels, among which stand out Iberostar hotels in the Canary Islands .

For several years in a row, dozens of beaches on the Canary Islands have received the prestigious Blue Flag award for environmental cleanliness.

The beaches in the Canaries are natural - with black volcanic sand, and artificial, covered with sand imported from the Sahara, the Dominican Republic or mined from the ocean floor.

The Canary archipelago consists of seven islands, the most popular of which is Tenerife. Here is the highest point in Spain - the Teide volcano and famous beaches with black sand, which is believed to have healing properties. Thus, black sand can be found on Las Arenas beach, surrounded by rocks and picturesque vegetation. Another “black” beach is Playa Jardin, a city beach in Puerto de la Cruz in northern Tenerife. The largest beach area on the island is Playa Las Vistas, almost a kilometer long, which is located in the city of Arona.

It is on the island of Tenerife that the largest tourist centers in the archipelago are located, where all conditions for a comfortable stay are created, for example, five-star hotels of the IBEROSTAR chain: Grand Hotel El Mirador, Anthelia, Grand Hotel Mencey. They are suitable for tourists who want to receive the highest level of service.

Gran Canaria is the third largest island in the archipelago and is also popular with tourists. The local sandy beaches are framed by cliffs and dense tropical vegetation. The island has two Blue Flag beaches. One of them is Maspalomas, a 12 km long beach famous for its sand dunes formed naturally by the Sirocco winds from the Sahara. The second famous beach is Playa del Ingles with golden sand, also part of the Maspalomas resort. It is chosen by young tourists because it has many clubs and bars, as well as sailing opportunities.

The second largest island of the archipelago, Fuerteventura, boasts beautiful white sand beaches, virtually untouched by civilization. Hotels on this island are suitable for tourists who prefer a quiet and secluded holiday. The most beautiful and longest beach of the island is Playa de Sotavento de Jandia, 30 km long on the Jandia Peninsula. There are many excellent hotels nearby, including those for families with children, for example IBEROSTAR Playa Gaviotas Park 4*. Another famous beach is the small Playa del Caseron in the province of Olivia, awarded the Blue Flag. There are also “black” beaches in Fuerteventura - La Pared and Playa de Ajuy.

When people think about vacation, many of them, first of all, have before their eyes an imaginary beach with warm golden sand, a gentle sun in a blue cloudless sky, waves that mesmerize with their splashing on the shore, and serene peace that they are ready to indulge throughout. vacation. And for some it is difficult to imagine a vacation where there is no extreme sports or active entertainment, and such people are ready to go anywhere on the planet to find them.

If your choice fell on Tenerife, you were not mistaken - there are beaches here to suit every, most demanding taste. And the peculiarity of many of them is black volcanic sand - it is so unusual and pristine, bewitching and stunningly beautiful!

The numerous beaches of the island and their features can be described endlessly. We will try to dwell on the most interesting of them from the point of view of a tourist and tell you what beaches there are in Tenerife.

First, a little general information: all the beaches of the island of Tenerife are covered with black volcanic sand or a mixture of black and white sand, blown by the wind from Africa. As tourism developed, the authorities began to improve the beaches in resort areas and sand was brought in for many white. Thus, here you can see both the familiar snow-white beaches and amazing black beaches.

It is useful to know that entrance to Tenerife beaches is free everywhere and there are no coastal areas owned by any particular hotel (as is the case in Egypt or Turkey). Anyone can freely come to any beach, but the provision of services is a separate expense item, so be prepared for the fact that you will have to pay for a sunbed and a beach umbrella (2-4 euros for the whole day), a toilet and a shower.

For convenience, we divided the island into parts and wrote separate articles for each of them.

Beaches of Tenerife in the southern part of the island

This is the most popular part of the island among tourists, so the number and quality of beaches here are noticeably greater. There are only 10 main beaches on this coast:

  • - Playa del Duque, Playa Fanabe and Torviscas, Playa de Troya, Playa La Pinta And Playa del Bobo;
  • - Playa Honda And Playa del Camison;
  • - Playa Las Vistas And Playa de Los Cristianos.

Almost the entire coast consists of beaches, with rare exceptions of those places where rocks are located.

A large number of cafes, restaurants, shops right on the beach or on the adjacent promenade, as well as a wide range of water activities make these resorts leaders in the number of vacationers. Moreover, not only tourists relax here, but also locals themselves, although there are fewer of them. For lovers of active recreation, there is an opportunity to go diving, surfing or fishing, for example. Among the advantages, I can also note the following: almost all beaches have water areas enclosed by breakwaters, which makes swimming more comfortable, and most of them are covered with white or golden sand, brought especially for these beaches.

Traditionally, the south is considered the most crowded and noisy resort of Tenerife. If you like a more relaxing holiday, then there are many wonderful beaches for you, read on.

Beaches of Tenerife in the west of the island

To the west of the noisy and active Las Americas there are several quieter and cozy resorts that are perfect for both families with children and elderly tourists.

So, what are the main beaches here:

  • Los Gigantes and Puerto de Santiago - Playa de Los Guyos, Playa La Chica, Playa de la Arena And Playa Punta Blanca(exclusively for surfing);
  • Alcala - Playa de la Jaquita, Playa de Alcala And Playa Mendez;
  • Playa San Juan with the beach of the same name;
  • Playa Abama Golf Resort;
  • Kayao Salvaje - Playa de Ajabo;
  • La Caleta - Playa de La Enramada.

Most of the beaches are covered with natural black volcanic sand and have a well-developed infrastructure, and some of them even had white sand specially imported (Abama, San Juan). There are fewer water activities here because... There is a port only in Los Gigantes, which is why it can be considered a center for boat trips and similar leisure options.

Tenerife beaches on the east side of the island

To the east of the main resorts, towards the airport, there are quiet local towns that are not touristy at all. Of course, tourists come here, but in much smaller numbers. Absolutely all the beaches here are natural with black or gray sand, partially brought by winds from Africa.

Here are the beaches:

  • El Medano - Playa La Tejita, Playa del Medano And Playa Leocadio Machado- windy and ideal for surfing;
  • Playa Las Gayetas in the village of the same name and Playa Montaña Amaria nearby;
  • Playa de Los Abrigos in the town of the same name;
  • - Playa de la Arena Candelaria and Playa del Socorro Guimar (both not to be confused with other beaches of the same name on the island).

These are only some of the beaches and the most noticeable for tourists. In addition to them, there are also a lot of small wild beaches and city beaches of ports and villages along the coast. Most of them do not have any services and therefore do not attract anyone other than locals. This does not mean that they do not deserve attention at all - lovers of the wilderness will always find them during independent walks around the island - you just need to talk about something noteworthy, and not about everything in a row. I hope you understand.

Beaches of Tenerife in the northern part of the island

So we got to the greenest part of the island - the north. In order for all this greenery to grow abundantly, the clouds generously water it with precipitation, which is why there are clearly fewer sunny days here than in the south. However, there are quite a few beaches here, and the main charm of all these beaches is the indescribable beauty of the natural landscapes!

Here are located:

  • and San Andres - Playa de Las Teresitas;
  • Anaga mountain range - Playa de Antequiera, Playa Benijo, Playa Roque de Las Bodegas And Playa de Almáciga;
  • Bajamar and Punta del Hidalgo - Playa de Bajamar, Playa del Roquete And Playa de Arenisco;
  • El Pris / Mesa del Mar - Playa El Pris, Playa El Rincon And Playa de La Arena Tocoronte.
  • Puerto de La Cruz - Playa Hardin, Playa de Martianes, Playa El Boyuyo, Playa San Telmo And Playa de Los Roques.
  • Playa El Socorro;
  • Icod de Los Vinos - Playa San Martin.

What's bad for a swimmer is good for a surfer - that's why all the beaches in the north are pure surfing spots. Almost constant waves (and often very large ones) make most of the beaches unsuitable for swimming, but ideal for riding the waves. This does not mean that you cannot bathe at all, no. It’s just that calm oceans and sunny skies are rarer here than in the south of the island.

All beaches, without exception, have exclusively natural sand, black and hot in sunny weather. By the way, a message to the girls, try to wear inexpensive dark-colored swimsuits on such beaches if you don’t want to ruin it - the volcanic sand is very fine and gets clogged up everywhere. Then your white Victoria's Secret will have black speckles, do you need it?

The beaches vary in infrastructure, some are well-equipped (those within the city limits), and some are completely wild. Keep this in mind when planning a trip to a specific beach.

Beaches with a twist (nudist)

Now you know about the main beaches of the island of Tenerife and it’s time to please those who like to shed their swimming trunks and swimsuit. Here this is the order of the day and there are plenty of places to unite with nature. In fact, any wild beach can turn into a nudist beach because... There are no rules or instructions in this regard. But for complete nudity on an ordinary beach listed above, you can easily get a reprimand from the police.

The beaches of Tenerife, as you can see, are very diverse in climate and environment, partly due to the fact that the island's climate itself is rich in diversity. If you want to warm up sore spots - bury yourself in black sand, if you want perfectly clean water - choose more rocky and secluded beaches, if you want convenience and service - snow-white beaches are at your service. Here everyone can find the perfect beach for themselves - a lover of water games, a lover of relaxing swimming, and even a social phobic bore.

We have put together a collection of the most beautiful black sand beaches on the island of Tenerife. Here are El Medano, El Boyuyo, Taganana and Socorro, Playa Jardin and Playa Arena!

A tourist who comes to the beach of a volcanic island for the first time experiences a kind of culture shock. The sand is so black that it doesn’t fit the stereotype of a tropical paradise.

Clear blue water, snow-white foam, growing palm trees - it's all there. However, instead of the usual golden shores, the black sand shimmers with silver in the sun’s rays.

In different parts of Tenerife there are beautiful beaches with healing volcanic sand. In this article we have collected the most interesting and beautiful ones. Be sure to visit at least a few of them during this time.

Playa Jardin

One of the most famous black sand beaches is Playa Jardin. Playa Hardin is located in the western part of the resort. The author of the project is the world famous Cesar Manrique, an architect and artist from . Along Jardín Beach there is a palm alley and a large cactus garden. According to Cesar Manrique's plan, the beach is not fenced with a breakwater, so there are often large waves here. Photographing them is a real pleasure.

Playa de Martianes

In the eastern part of Puerto de la Cruz is Playa de Martianez. Playa Martianez is a natural beach exposed to waves with black volcanic sand. Like Playa Jardín, it is a popular surfing spot.

Playa de los Cristianos and Playa de las Vistas
