How to bend plastic at home. How to correctly bend a polypropylene pipe at home and avoid deformation How to bend a PVC sheet panel

Agree, it is quite tedious to decorate walls with plastic over pre-constructed metal and wooden frame. In addition, this method of wall decoration reduces the volume of the room. And although we are talking about some 3-4 cm on each side, they still make the room significantly smaller. There are other disadvantages frame method covering walls with plastic - PVC panels are not capable of transmitting moisture and its vapors, as a result of which dampness, rotting and, as a result, the appearance of fungus form behind such a false wall. An alternative frame technology Cladding walls with plastic involves installing panels with glue - this method is devoid of almost all the disadvantages described above. We will deal with it in the most detailed way.

Conditions under which it is possible to cover walls with plastic using glue

Yes, you heard right. Not every wall can be covered with plastic PVC panels. There are not so many conditions under which plastic can adhere well to the surface being coated, but failure to comply with them will lead to a waste of money and time.

Firstly, this is the evenness of the walls. We are not talking about an ideal surface that does not have the slightest curvature - permissible differences, holes and bumps should not exceed 5mm. If there are more, the plastic will either not stick or will break in places with large depressions.

Secondly, surface quality. It's no secret that no glue will stick to a dusty, dirty or greasy surface. Therefore, before you start gluing plastic panels, the walls must be thoroughly cleaned - wash off the whitewash with water, remove dust with a primer, and remove grease using detergents.

Which glue to choose for plastic PVC panels

In principle, wall cladding with plastic can be done using different adhesive compositions - some craftsmen use hot-melt adhesive for this purpose, which is applied with a special gun, others resort to contact adhesive such as “liquid nails”, and still others use PVC installation panels polyurethane foam devoid of the ability to expand.

In principle, all of the above adhesive compositions cope with the tasks assigned to them almost 100%, but some of them have their drawbacks. In particular, we are talking about hot melt adhesive. The fact is that plastic has a considerable coefficient of thermal expansion - the use of rigidly fixing glue, which deprives the panels of a small free movement, leads to a gradual lag of the panels from the walls. This does not happen immediately, but in the next couple of years hot-melt adhesive will show its inability to hold panels in place for a long time and reliably.

It is for this reason that it is better to install plastic on walls using liquid nails or non-expanding polyurethane sealant.

This type of glue has sufficient plasticity so that it does not come off the surface during the cooling and heating cycles of the plastic. It is this glue for PVC panels that most craftsmen who value their reputation use.

Technology for installing PVC panels with glue

The process of covering walls with plastic using glue, as in principle, that’s all Finishing work, begins with high-quality surface preparation. As described above, it is cleaned of dust, dirt and grease, after which it is generously primed. This approach to business is truism for every master who respects his work.

Before cleaning and priming walls, you may need to additional work. It's all about the approach of the builders of the past era to their work - most of the corners of rooms such as the bathroom and toilet were made rounded. They will have to be trimmed a little using a hammer drill. If this is impossible for some reason, then you will have to repeat the turns of the walls with millimeter accuracy.

Do you know how to bend a plastic panel along its entire length without breaking it? You certainly won’t need to heat it with a powerful hairdryer - the back side of the panel is cut between the stiffening ribs and neatly bent. This way you can make almost any internal and even external corner. When forming external corners, one slot will not be enough - you will have to cut an oblique segment one and a half to two stiffening ribs wide. In principle, if the walls and corners are smooth, then you can abandon this idea, giving preference to factory corner joints. In the case of wall angles greater than 90˚, you can’t imagine anything better than bending the panel.

Okay, now let’s get down to business, and first let’s prepare starting line, which will cultivate the connection between plastic and floor. You can do without it, but only if your plans include installing skirting boards. The same applies to the ceiling - if installation is planned suspension system made of plastic, then you can refuse to install the starting profile under the ceiling.

Now the panel itself. It is cut according to the height of the room, its back side is cleaned of dust with a damp cloth. Only after this can glue be applied to it. Depending on the curvature of the walls, the glue can be applied in several ways. If the walls can be called ideal, then applying adhesive composition It is done in stripes along the perimeter and in the middle of the strip, but if the walls have curvatures, then it is better to apply the glue pointwise, in large drops. This approach to the matter will guarantee that even in depressions the panel will adhere well to the wall surface.

The greased panel is applied to the wall. When it comes to using liquid nails, then it taps and comes off - this glue needs to weather a little (5-7 minutes), this will make it more rigid and will not allow the panel to pull away from the wall until the glue dries completely. Such numbers do not work with polyurethane sealant - during the hardening process of this glue, a strip of plastic will have to be periodically pressed against the surface to be coated. So whatever one may say, it’s hard to find anything better than liquid nails for gluing plastic PVC panels.

Here is the answer to the question of how to attach plastic to the wall with glue. It is in this way that their adhesive installation is carried out. And finally little advice regarding the formation of external and internal corners. To be honest, there is no point in bothering with them and using factory connections. Most best option- cover them with ordinary plastic corners, which do not have grooves for inserting panels into them. They are simply glued onto transparent silicone, and the excess is removed with a damp cloth. Depending on the curvature of the corners, you can select the width of such inserts in the range from 20 to 50 mm.

Polypropylene pipes are the most common material that is often used when installing a heating system. A polypropylene pipe can withstand high-temperature coolants and can withstand pressure of several atmospheres inside the pipeline.

Flaw PPR pipes The problem is that they are sold straight, and to create systems of complex configurations, a pipe with a certain bend is often needed, which has to be done manually.

However experienced craftsmen repairs often involve bending pipes, and this does not cause problems with deformation or loss of strength.

During construction complex system heating systems, it is necessary to create structures of complex configurations.

Let's say in apartment buildings, where each room has a separate riser and one radiator, the system is very simple. One pipe goes from the riser to the radiator, the second - back. Sometimes they are connected by a third. In this case, there is no point in bending. It is enough to supply the correct connecting elements in the amount of 4 - 6 pieces.

Things are different in a private house, where heating has to be installed from scratch, starting from the boiler and pipes taken out basements upstairs, to all rooms. Sometimes it is difficult in this case to build a straight system that will be devoid of turns and changes in the height of laying pipes. You can install two various pipes, connected by a special coupling, but this is labor-intensive, costly and less effective.

Another large area of application for bent polypropylene pipes is the underfloor heating system. The fact is that in this case the pipes are laid according to a pre-planned pattern, reminiscent in shape of a tubular electric heater washing machine or “coil” in the bathroom.

Quite often during construction work, when the owner makes major renovation, they face many problems that need to be solved using available tools. For example, quite often you need to give plastic product curvilinear shape. Of course, you can go to the store and buy already ready product, but the search for the most suitable product often drags on. Below we will try to figure out how to bend plastic at home.

The very concept of “plastics” unites a large number of natural or synthetic polymers that can easily deform and change shape when heated. After the material hardens, it will become solid again. We will use this property of plastic when answering the question of how plastic can be bent.

You can bend plastic in several ways. The best way to avoid breaking the material and create a bend at the required angle is to use a molding machine.

To bend the plastic you will need:

  • molding machine;

  • VAL board;

  • silicone;

  • industrial dryer.

Detailed instructions on how to bend plastic

If you need to bend polystyrene, you can prepare several tools. Make a mandrel from MDF (fibreboard). Assemble the mold and, depending on the width and length of the plastic part, adjust it to the appropriate size. Walk over the surface with sandpaper so that there are no distortions left.

Prepare the shell for the plastic silicone part using a molding machine. It will be needed to fix the flat workpiece on the mandrel and preserve its surface from scratches and chips.

Paste plastic part into the shell, then secure it in an MDF mandrel and place it on the molding machine. After the unit warms up and the plastic begins to settle on the mandrel, taking the required form, You need to wait 5-7 minutes. Carefully remove the part from the machine while wearing gloves. Then put it on metal surface to allow the material to cool. Then remove the mandrel.

It is much easier to bend a plastic pipe. Take an industrial hair dryer or gas burner, turn it on and point it at the place where you are going to make a fold. The distance from the heating device to the surface of the part must be at least 5 cm.

Rotate the pipes without stopping, otherwise it may catch fire. Heat it until the material is soft, then bend it. Hold the pipe in this position for a while to allow the plastic to harden.

Plastic slopes for windows or walls made of foamed PVC, you can bend it at the required angle, making frequent cuts along the radius. Then, having created the required shape, fix them with special glue. This way you will make a part with bends and extensions.

Many people wonder how to bend PVC plastic pipes themselves. Indeed, in the process of installing heating and water supply systems, you very often have to deal with deformation of pipes, but many, not knowing how to do this, acquire a lot of unnecessary components, with the help of which they create bends and branches of the channel. At the same time, they spend almost a third of the allocated budget for creating the entire pipeline. More rational and in an inexpensive way is bending PVC pipes.

So, in order to bend a polyvinyl chloride pipe intended for heating and drinking water supply systems, it is necessary to remember and put into practice several well-known methods of influencing plastic products using heated air and a vaporous substance. In addition, in independent construction work there is a way to bend PVC pipe using the included gas stove. So, let's talk about everything in more detail.

As for the handy method of bending plastic pipes, it consists in heating up exactly that section of the pipe that will bend. A home stove, or rather, one of its burners, can help in this matter. But when using this method of bending plastic pipes, you need to be vigilant and careful, because open flame can damage not only the pipe, but also human hands. And in more serious cases lead to disastrous results. Therefore, there is always an alternative to everything that happens, regarding methods of bending PVC pipes, including.

More in safe ways creating any bend and direction of the pipe intended for supplying water are:

1. You can bend a plastic pipe using a technical hair dryer. To ensure the proper shape of the PVC pipe when it is heated, so that it does not begin the melting process, it is necessary to pour into its internal cavity a material that is resistant to elevated temperatures, and whose structure has the form of finely ground fractions. Such materials include both sand mass and salt mass. Using a construction watering can or funnel, it will not be possible to pour such materials inside a polyvinyl chloride pipe a lot of work. Naturally, one end will need to be sealed with a stopper or barrier cap. Approximately, to fill a standard (length about 3 meters and diameter about 2 cm) plastic pipe intended for creating a heating system or water supply channel, you will need about one bucket of bulk material. Knowing all the calculations, you can purchase everything you need in advance and not worry about whether the available materials are enough or not.

2. Plastic pipe can be bent without the help of a technical hair dryer. This method involves heating bulk material (sand mass or salt mass) using oven. To realize your plan, you will need a baking sheet and a preheated oven. After the bulk mass has warmed up to desired temperature, using a scoop and a construction funnel, you need to pour it into the internal cavity of the plastic pipe. It must be taken into account that when choosing this method of bending a PVC pipe, you need to have a crow and a metal barrier cap.

An important nuance is to determine the required temperature, sufficient for bending plastic pipes, as well as polyvinyl chloride pipes, independently. In this case, you need to think logically. This question can be considered using an example water heating tank. So, the tank heats the water, according to the recommendations in the instructions for the product, to a maximum of 75 degrees Celsius, but it is advisable to adjust the mode and set the heating temperature to 60 degrees. This is necessary in order to avoid the formation of precipitation on the walls of the tank during heating at high temperatures. So, by analyzing the available data, we can conclude that the required heating temperature of the bulk mass must definitely be above 80 degrees. There is information on the Internet that such masses need to be heated to at least 140 degrees and no more than 170 degrees, so this extreme temperature is considered the melting point of plastic and PVC products.

All methods of bending PVC pipes for water supply systems have been considered, and you need to make a choice only based on your wishes.

What methods can be used to bend PVC pipes intended for sewer systems?

Few people know that such rigid PVC pipes with a large diameter can generally be bent. You need to understand that not all types of such pipes can be bent. Moreover, you can only bend the pipe a little, but that's already something. In most cases, as practice shows, plastic pipe for sewerage, having a diameter of 1011 cm, can be bent by a maximum of 25% using a technical hair dryer. Do not worry if relief formations in the form of folds appear on the outer surface of the PVC pipe after treatment with a technical hair dryer. Such formations do not impede the passage of masses through it, and also do not weaken the deformed areas.

Pipes made of polyvinyl chloride or plastic with a diameter of 56 cm can be easily created. For bending such products, a technical hair dryer is used or hot bulk materials technology is used. Before the process of creating bends, it is necessary to undergo a training exercise. There is no need to skimp on materials to hone your skills. Such training will help to achieve a good result at the end of the process of bending the desired plastic product.

The bending process itself sewer pipes made of plastic or polyvinyl chloride is not much different from the process of bending pipes for heating systems or water supply systems. Initially, it is necessary to heat the bulk material to 80-100 degrees Celsius, and then pour it into the cavity of the plastic product. Next, you need to wait some time for the PVC pipe to warm up at the intended bend. Once you have waited, you can begin to give it the desired look.

Today's construction technologies have reached the level of creating special bendable PVC pipes for sewerage systems. They are produced in different sizes and with different diameters. Therefore, when purchasing such a pipe, you can avoid imparting flexible properties to the pipe yourself. But the choice is always yours!

It's been a while since I wrote here! And you can find a lot for this good reasons... AND main reason- I was engaged in what, as they say on the radio, is not the “format”! And so, not according to my desire, but out of necessity, I started renovating the bathroom. Previously, the renovation was done in 2005, this date is solely for the purpose of understanding what was available then from available technologies and materials. I think that some ideas are still relevant today! For this reason, I decided to post several articles, so to speak, in reverse order, i.e. during the analysis...

This first article is devoted to the issue of bending of plastic panels when covering rooms in corners. I think that this question may be well known to many, but there will also be those who simply did not think about this option for resolving the issue, but followed exclusively the path that our industry offers and bought various corners provided for these purposes. In my opinion, the option I proposed, firstly, will save money (not buying corners), secondly, it looks more aesthetically pleasing, and thirdly, it allows you to maintain the integrity of the structure. Maybe someone else will come up with an idea positive traits, I think these are quite enough!

And so, let's look at the plastic panel itself! (for demonstration I used scraps, debris - in short, garbage)

For creating internal corner It’s enough just to make a cut along the entire length of the panel from the “wrong side” of the required segment, which will subsequently form the angle. The cut can be made with a simple construction knife. The panel is cut quite easily and simply.

As practice has shown, although a simple cut is sufficient, it is still better to completely “select the material” from a given segment in pairs - as in the photo below. This is due to the fact that when bending, the edges of the cut plastic can interfere with each other... !!! not required, but recommended!!!

You need to bend it carefully, with smooth movements, gradually along the entire length, so that the panel does not break in this place. A fairly large angle can be achieved.

For external corner, you need to “select material”, no longer from one segment. This is due to the fact that the cut edges overlap and they begin to rest and prevent the panel from bending.

If you do everything correctly, slowly and carefully, you can achieve results like these!!!

INTERNAL CORNER

OUTSIDE CORNER

Attention, smooth and good angle, it will work out if the walls that you are sheathing/pasting with panels also have normal angles!!!
