How to properly install blinds on a plastic window. Installation of horizontal blinds Assembly of blinds and installation

For modern light protection, such as blinds, installation does not take much time, but requires a balanced approach and careful actions. Before installing blinds on your plastic windows, you need to decide on several fundamental points and highlight individual characteristics this type of window decoration.

Location and size

The first step is to decide whether the entire niche will be closed or whether it would be correct to hang the structure on the window itself, perhaps separately on each of its sash. Each option has its own mounting method, for different types Blinds make installation with some technical differences.

Selection of external dimensions

Scheme for correct measurement of window dimensions

There are several ways to determine the size of the product:

  1. On the wall. In this case, the width dimension exceeds the closed opening by 0.1 - 0.15 m from each edge.
  2. Fixed to the ceiling. The width is the same, but you need to choose the length (to the floor, along the windowsill).
  3. Place it next to the window, freeing up access to the windowsill. The transverse dimension is 2 cm smaller than the opening on both sides.
  4. Screw onto each sash separately so that you can freely use the opening or ventilation function. Measurements are taken along the outer edge of the bead; the lower edge should not reach the stop surface by about 2 cm.
  5. Insert into a double-glazed window for complete freedom of space. The minimum length of manufactured slats on horizontal blinds is 220 mm.

In the first and second cases, the length of the canvas is determined based on the design of the room. Floor area luminous flux is selected individually. Examples of how to fasten can be found in curtain catalogs: closed top part(2/3) windows, shaped, arched, oblique cuts of vertical fabric curtains were made. Rope and bamboo models allow you to install blinds yourself on plastic windows so that they can hang without folding or moving to the side.

If you want to know the GOST requirements, how to choose the size of the curtain for plastic windows, you can refer to the following tables that will help you calculate Exact size light-protective fabric:

Operating experience shows that the window mechanism is guaranteed to function stably for product widths up to 2.2 m.

Necessary tool

Secure installation of blinds on windows can be done with a standard tool, the use of which does not require special training:

  • screwdriver/screwdriver;
  • drill;
  • level, ruler, pencil;
  • installation on wall, ceiling adds:
  • hammer.

If you use special canopies (hooks, double-sided tape), you will have to assemble it yourself, with the exception of the need to use a measuring tool.

Installation methods

Methods for installing blinds

For industrially manufactured models, do-it-yourself installation of blinds is described in the attached instructions. When independently choosing the place where the product will be mounted, all the parts (for example, brackets) are not always used.

Hanging on the opening

The desire to completely hide the window involves installing blinds over its upper part. In this case, brackets are used that will provide the gap from the blinds to the wall necessary for the free movement of the slats.

The effect of curtains is created by attaching the box (top bar) to the ceiling. There are already holes made in the cornice through which you need to screw it to the ceiling.

Before installing the blinds, mark the centers of the opening to be closed and the top of the curtain to be secured. I set aside equal distances from them for drilling holes where the fixing grips will be installed.

If you have to hang blinds with electric drive movement of the lamellas, it is necessary to take into account that the dimensions of the folded package on the right and left are different, depending on the location of the engine.

Window mount

Let's consider ways to correctly install the selected curtain option without changing its performance characteristics.

It is allowed to install blinds on plastic windows using screws on the structure profile and glazing bead. Before screwing in, it is advisable to pre-drill the plastic body with a drill whose Ø is smaller than the screw thread. This will prevent the material from cracking due to excessive twisting force.

If you are installing horizontal blinds on a separate sash, then you still need to put a fixing device at the bottom - bushings through which the tension line will be threaded to tension the fixed panel.

The manufacturer allows you to choose how to install horizontal roller blinds. The kit includes double-sided tape that firmly fixes the plastic brackets to the window profile. Below, glue holders for a fully unraveled fabric curtain to the window with your own hands.

Inter-frame installation of horizontal blinds will require drilling holes for the control mechanism in a convenient part of the transom according to the manufacturer’s diagram attached to the product. For more information about installing horizontal blinds, watch this video:

A non-damaging way to answer the question of how to hang blinds on indoor plastic windows is with special hooks hung along the top of the frame. They may be sold with the product.

The last stage of installation

The installation of horizontal blinds is completed by assembling all the elements into a functioning structure. A description of how to assemble the blinds is included with each model. Large bays on the installed cornice are inserted into the latches until they click; the drive is carried out by a cord threaded into a special fastening for the blinds, which directs the free movement forward/backward. To learn how to attach blinds to a mount without screws, watch this video:

After assembly, be sure to check how the blinds are attached by making several trial lowering and raising of the blinders. All questionable areas must be re-secured to prevent future damage.

If you have bought or ordered vertical or horizontal blinds, then we suggest that you install them yourself, because you can cope with this task even without experience, the main thing is to have the desire, 1 hour of free time and several tools.

Attention! Installing blinds does not require special skills, but keep in mind that any damage that occurs during the process independent work, will exclude the possibility warranty repair, exchange/return of curtains.

Depending on the type of curtains, your preferences and conditions, blinds are installed:

  • In the window opening;
  • On the wall;
  • To the ceiling;
  • On the window itself.

We made 3 step by step instructions and a selection useful videos, with which you can mount horizontal and vertical blinds any kind in any way.

To install horizontal blinds on a wall or to the ceiling, as well as to install vertical blinds above a window, you need to prepare:

  1. Electric drill with concrete drill 6-8 mm;
  2. Self-tapping screws and dowels 6-8 mm;
  3. Tape measure or ruler and level;
  4. Pencil;
  5. Phillips screwdriver or screwdriver;
  6. If it is necessary to shorten and cut curtains to width: a hacksaw, scissors, threads, needles.

Instructions for installing horizontal blinds on the wall/ceiling

To correctly install blinds to a wall or ceiling, you need to perform the following steps.

Step 1. Check the complete set of curtains and lay out all the parts on the work surface.

Make sure that the curtain kit includes: universal fasteners for blinds 2 pcs. (or standard brackets), screws, the blinds themselves assembled form. If you are installing blinds more than 2 m wide, then the set of fasteners should also include an intermediate fastener, which will fix the curtain in the middle, preventing it from sagging.

Step 2. We attach the curtains to the wall/ceiling, determine the exact location of their installation and mark the left and right edges of the curtain rod using a tape measure and level. Next, from each mark (towards the sides from the center) we make an indent of 2-3 cm and also put marks - these are places for installing fasteners-brackets.

Step 3. Now we apply the right and left fasteners to these marks and mark the exact drilling locations directly along the screw holes. We drill these marks with a drill. The drilling depth should be 3-4 cm.

Step 5. If you are installing blinds more than 2 m wide, then at this stage you need to install intermediate fasteners. To do this, mark the middle between the already installed fasteners and repeat the steps from steps 3 and 4.

Tip: to ensure reliable installation of heavy aluminum, bamboo and wooden curtains, intermediate fasteners are installed 10 cm from the adjusting thread, since this place bears a large load.

Step 6. Insert and close the top cornice of the blinds into the bracket locks. If these are standard brackets, then the cornice is simply screwed to them with screws.

Instructions for installing horizontal blinds in a window opening

To install horizontal blinds in a window opening, you need to do the following work.

Make sure that the blinds are supplied with: fasteners for blinds (brackets) 2 pcs., screws, the blinds themselves in assembled form.

Step 2. We try on the curtains to the desired place in the window niche and check whether the blinds interfere with opening.

Step 3. Now we apply the right and left fasteners to the upper inner plane of the window niche, stepping back from its walls 2-3 cm towards the center, then make marks in the locations of the fastener holes. This way you will have 2 marks on the right and 2 marks on the left.

Step 4. Now we drill holes along these marks with a drill. The drilling depth should be 3-4 cm.

Step 5. We screw the right and left fasteners (in accordance with the sides and marks) to the upper plane of the window opening using self-tapping screws.

Step 6. Insert and close the top curtain rod into the bracket locks by simply turning and/or pressing the lever clockwise. If you use regular brackets for fastening, then the blind cornice is simply screwed on.

Instructions for installing vertical blinds to the ceiling/wall and in the window opening

Installing vertical blinds with your own hands involves the following steps:

Step 1. Check the package and lay out all the parts on the work surface.

The set of vertical blinds includes: fasteners for blinds (brackets) 2 pcs., screws, cornice, curtains themselves in disassembled form (slats with weights, lower connecting chain).

Step 2. Before installing the blinds, you need to make sure that their length suits you. To do this, attach one lamella to the desired location on the ceiling/wall/top plane of the window opening. If the distance from the bottom of the curtains to the window sill or floor is less than 1-2 cm, then it is better to shorten the slats. You can do this yourself: take out the weights, cut off the excess and hem the edges back.

Step 3. Now you need to attach the cornice to the ceiling/wall of the window opening, align and mark its right and left ends.

Then we do the following:

  • If you are installing vertical blinds to the ceiling, then from the previously placed marks we make an indent of 2-3 cm towards the center and put the marks again;
  • If you want to install blinds to the wall, then from the previously placed marks we make an indent of 5-6 cm towards the center and also place marks.

If you are installing curtains in a window opening, then you do not need to mark the ends of the cornice; you just need to make marks, stepping back from the walls of the opening 2-3 cm towards the center.

Next, we apply fasteners for the blinds to these marks and mark the drilling locations. This way you will have 2 marks on the right and 2 marks on the left. Be sure to apply fasteners to match the sides.

Note: to install curtains with a width of more than 1.6 m, you need to additionally install an intermediate fastener 10 cm from the adjusting cord.

Step 4. Now we drill holes along these marks with a drill. The drilling depth should be 4-5 cm.

Step 5. Screw the right and left fasteners (in accordance with the sides and marks) to the ceiling/wall with self-tapping screws.

Step 6. Insert and close the blind curtain rod into the fastener locks by turning and/or pressing the lever clockwise. If you use regular brackets for fastening, then the cornice is simply screwed to them.

Step 7. By adjusting the cord, we turn the runners so that they unfold across the cornice (as shown below in the left photo) and proceed to attach the slats, simply snapping them into the grooves of the runners.

Step 8. Attach the bottom chain to the lamella weights, first from their outer side, then cut off the excess and do the same with reverse side lamellas, and then with the second part of the lamellas. Well, that’s all, the installation of vertical blinds is complete, all that remains is to check the operation of the mechanism and adjust the position of the slats.

Below is a video instruction on how to properly install vertical blinds to the wall with your own hands.

Not many people know that blinds were invented several centuries ago. Today it is one of the most popular decorative and protective devices for windows. The article will discuss how to hang blinds on plastic windows yourself. You can find out what types of multi-leaf window curtains there are and how to properly install vertical and horizontal blinds.

Kinds

Blinds- one of the types of window curtains, devices in the form of rigid, parallel to each other and adjustable plates made of various materials- fabric, wood, metal, plastic. They have several functions:

  • protect from light;
  • decorate the window;
  • regulate air flows.
There are several types of blinds. The most common of them are:
  • horizontal;
  • vertical;
  • roll;
  • pleated.
We suggest you understand the advantages and disadvantages of each type.

Did you know? The official history of the invention of blinds begins in 1841. It was this year that their production was patented by the American John Hampton, although the production of rigid curtains had been carried out before. So, since the 1760s, they were produced in Philadelphia by the Englishman John Webster.

Horizontal

Horizontal or Venetian blinds They are thin plates (lamellas), which are located one above the other like a ladder. They are connected to each other by a cord, which allows you to open and close them, as well as adjust the height. The plates are controlled using a rotating rod. The slats can be made from different materials- wood, metal, bamboo, fabric.

The main advantages of these types of curtains are:

  • good protection from sunlight;
  • increased heat transfer;
  • possibility of adjusting lighting intensity;
  • reliability;
  • durability;
  • ease of maintenance and operation;
  • the ability to visually expand the size of the room;
  • easy installation;
  • Can be used for any room, including kitchen, bath, balcony;
  • low cost.
There are probably no disadvantages to horizontal blinds. They can only be present depending on the material from which they are made. We will talk about them in more detail in a separate section below.

Vertical

Vertical blinds appeared somewhat later than horizontal ones - in 1960. However, they quickly gained popularity and today are successfully used to decorate various rooms.

These are plastic, metal or fabric slats suspended on a cornice in a vertical position parallel to each other and connected at the bottom with a cord. They are regulated by a side mechanism that rotates the plates - using a decorative cord (chain) they turn, and using a rope they move to one side, fully or partially opening the window.

The advantages of vertical blinds are:

  • versatility - the possibility of installation in window openings, to the ceiling, to the wall above the window, installation in attic and ordinary windows;
  • ease of installation;
  • ease of care;
  • efficient flow control sunlight;
  • good air access when darkened;
  • the ability to combine with regular curtains;
  • the ability to visually increase the height of the room.
Disadvantages include:
  • inconvenience when moving to the side when opening a window;
  • impossibility of placing flowers on the windowsill when mounted in a window opening.

Rolled

Roller blinds have recently come into the spotlight modern design apartments They are preferred by those who love coziness and comfort in their home. They are the ones who can create them in the bedroom, living room and kitchen. Besides appearance Roller blinds are more attractive than other types, while functionality also remains high.

They are designed in the form of a horizontal shaft on which a roll of fabric is wound, and a control mechanism in the form of a cord, a spring holder or an electric drive. The fabric can be lowered and raised to the desired length, completely or partially covering the window. Roller blinds are mounted in the window opening, on the ceiling or on the wall, on the window sash.

The advantages of roller blinds are:

  • ease of operation;
  • easy to care for - the fabric is impregnated with a dust- and water-repellent composition;
  • the ability to implement any design idea;
  • durability;
  • good protection from sunlight and room overheating;
  • the ability to create any degree of room illumination;
  • environmental friendliness;
  • ergonomics;
  • Possibility of installation on roof windows;
  • when installed on each sash, there is no interference with opening windows and decorating the window sill;
  • possibility of making curtains from transparent materials.

The disadvantages include the price, which is much higher than that of more familiar and common horizontal and vertical designs, as well as the fragility of the spring holder.

One type of roller blinds is cassette. This is an option designed for plastic windows. It is assumed that the slats or fabric roll, when closing, are hidden in a specially designed box (cassette) attached to the window sash.

This design allows you to save space, free up the window and window sill, and additionally protect the material from dust, dirt, and deformation. Cassette options are made of fabric, bamboo, aluminum, and plastic. There are three types of cassettes: round, angular and flat.

Pleated

Another option for fabric blinds is pleated. As the name already suggests, these are fabric curtains gathered into a small fold. Their choice is huge and comes in various colors, fabric density, and shapes. Some of them are sewn using a special pattern.

Thanks to this, pleated curtains can fit into any interior, creating an original atmosphere. This option is a piece of fabric that is attached to a special profile and controlled using a chain, cord or electric drive.

Advantages of pleated curtains:

  • originality;
  • external attractiveness;
  • good functionality;
  • durability;
  • reliability;
  • miniature design;
  • the ability to design a window of any shape and from any material.

Original and sophisticated interior solutions cannot be achieved without the use of multi-textured blinds, i.e. those in which the slats are made of various materials using a variety of decor.

Types of material

As already mentioned, in different time blinds were made from various textures. Today, the most common materials for rigid window curtains are fabric, plastic and aluminum, and less often wood. Each of them has both pros and cons.

Fabric

Textile blinds- this is one of the best options for decorating windows and protecting the room from sunlight in apartments and houses. There are both horizontal and vertical designs.

Many people are attracted by the appearance and huge selection of colors of fabric blinds, but are put off by the idea that they will require the same care as regular curtains. However, it is not.

Textiles for blinds are impregnated with special impregnations that prevent dirt, dust and moisture from being absorbed. Maintenance will consist only of periodically wiping the material with a slightly damp cloth and vacuuming.
High-quality textile blinds do not fade, do not deform, fit into any interior, and are not too expensive. However, compared to metal, plastic and wooden structures have a shorter service life. Textile models - no the best option for the kitchen or catering establishments, since they can absorb odors.

Did you know? The first blinds were made from wooden slats. They were replaced metal curtains. After World War II, fabrics were also used to make window security devices.

Plastic

One of the most popular types, due to its low price and the possibility of use in various premises - office, apartment, public, utility, high humidity. The polymers from which the lamellas are made can be of varying degrees of light transmission, of various colors, with or without patterns. They are practical, lightweight, easy to install and maintain, and are sold at the best price.
Among the disadvantages:

  • creating noise in a draft, with open windows;
  • some polymers turn yellow under prolonged exposure to sunlight;
  • cannot be used near stoves and other heating devices due to poor fire resistance;
  • release of toxic substances during a fire.

Aluminum

Along with plastic ones, aluminum blinds are also popular. They have high strength, durability, fire resistance, and the ability to withstand different temperatures and moisture. Most often used to protect windows in in public places, offices, medical institutions. They have an attractive price. They can be horizontal, vertical, cassette.

Disadvantages include heavier weight and the creation of a noise effect in drafts.

Wooden

Wooden blinds are used in certain types of interiors; they go well with fabric curtains and furniture made of natural wood. They allow you to create a warm homely atmosphere. They are reliable, strong, durable, environmentally friendly, and protect well from the sun. At the same time, they are one of the most expensive options.

Installation technology

You can install blinds without the help of professionals. We offer you instructions for working with horizontal and vertical rigid curtains.

Horizontal

Horizontal structures can be fastened in four ways:

  • to the ceiling;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • in a window opening;
  • to the window sashes.
First you need to take measurements. The height and width of the window opening are measured with a tape measure. On a piece of paper, you need to draw a diagram of the window, on which you can then take measurements.

When installing curtains in a window opening their size is calculated by subtracting 1 cm from the height and 2 cm from the width.

When installed above a window opening The size of the blinds is calculated based on adding 5-7 cm to its height and 20 cm to its width.

When attached to the sash the width is measured from the junction of the bead with the window on the left side to the junction of the bead with the window with right side, adding 1 cm.

When measuring height on a blind window 3 cm is added to the distance from bead to bead, on the sash - 4 cm.

Video: how to correctly measure horizontal blinds

Conventional horizontal blinds consist of the following elements:

  • upper part - rotary axis, rollers, cornice, brackets, cord clamp, swivel mechanism, top cover;
  • middle part - lamellas and plug;
  • lower part - lower cornice, side covers.
For installation you will need the following tools:
  • screwdriver;
  • pencil;
  • screws.

The technology for installing ready-made aluminum blinds on plastic windows is as follows:
  1. Straighten the structure.
  2. Remove the control handle.
  3. Attach fasteners to the top bar.
  4. Attach the structure to the installation site and mark the mounting locations for the brackets. The distance between them should be at least 60 cm.
  5. Attach the brackets to the wall, window frame or sash.
  6. Insert the top cornice into the brackets.
  7. Open the blinds and mark the attachment points for the lower fasteners.
  8. Attach the lower clamps.
  9. Insert the adjusting knob.

Important!Make sure that the brackets do not get caught in the control mechanism, cord clamp or support.

Video: installing horizontal blinds

If the finished blinds are longer than necessary, they can be trimmed. To do this, you need to remove the side ones and remove the lower clamps from the bottom bar. Then pull out the knots of the cord from the two holes formed and untie them. Remove excess slats. Re-insert the cords into the holes in the bottom bar and tie knots. Replace the bottom and side clips.

It is possible to shorten the blinds in width, but this is much more difficult to do. In order not to spoil the curtain, it is better to contact a specialist. For pruning you will need a fine-toothed hacksaw. The slats should be folded into one strip and cut to the required length. Then polish the ends with a file and, if necessary, tint.

Installing roller blinds

To install roller blinds on a wall, in an opening or on a ceiling, you will need drilling and the presence of a drill or hammer drill, depending on the material from which the ceiling and walls are made. To plastic or wooden windows roller blinds fastened using double-sided tape and PVC staples without drilling.

If the blinds will be attached to the sash, then to calculate their dimensions you will need to know not only the width and height of the window, but also the depth of the glazing bead. The choice of system will depend on the latter size. If the bead depth is more than 1.5 cm, you need to pay attention to the Uni type system, up to 1.5 cm - Profil and Mini.
Add 3 cm to the width of the glass - this will be the width of the curtain. The length of standard curtains is about 2 m. If they are too long for your windows, they can be trimmed.

Important! The length of roller blinds is calculated based on the fact that there must be at least 50 cm of fabric on the roll.

The technology for fastening roller blinds without drilling is as follows:

  1. Install a plug on one end of the roll, and a rotating mechanism with a plastic chain on the other.
  2. Insert the clamp into the bracket and secure it to the bracket.
  3. Install the brackets into the roll according to the instructions.
  4. Attach the curtain to the mounting location.
  5. Mark the mounting locations for the brackets.
  6. Check that nothing is blocking the opening of the curtain.
  7. Degrease the place where the brackets are attached.
  8. Place tape on the sash where the bracket is attached.
  9. Degrease the brackets.
  10. Unstick protective film tape
  11. Hang the blinds by pressing the tape where they are attached.

Video: how to install roller blinds

If you purchased a ready-made curtain, but it does not fit your window, then its size can be reduced. In order to shorten them in width, you will need to cut the roll, the canvas and the bottom rail. It is much easier to cut the fabric to length. The fabric is cut with ordinary scissors under a ruler, and then the bottom rail is attached to it.

Installation of cassette blinds

Cassette blinds are also attached with tape. In order to install them, you must:

  1. Print the product.
  2. Degrease the place of attachment to the window frame.
  3. Attach the cassette to the attachment point and lower the fabric to the bottom position.
  4. Mark the location where the cassette is attached with a pencil.
  5. Remove the protective film from the tape attached to the back of the cassette.
  6. Place the cassette on the frame, press and hold for a few seconds.
  7. Carefully remove the protective tape from the top edge of the metal fabric guides on both sides.
  8. Install the guides into the groove of the curtain body cassette and press down.
  9. Gradually removing the protective layer of tape, press the guides parallel to the frame bead.
  10. Do the same on the other side.
  11. Install a limiter.

Vertical

Vertical curtains can be attached in three ways:

  • in a window opening;
  • to the wall above the window;
  • to the ceiling.
They can have left-hand, right-hand and central control. Below you will find instructions on how to install vertical rigid curtains yourself.

In the window opening

To calculate the dimensions, you need to measure the width of the window opening and subtract 1-1.5 cm. Measure the height of the opening and subtract 1.5-2 cm. Measurements must be taken 5-7 cm deep into the opening, since it usually narrows. To make sure that after installing the blinds the sash will open, you need to measure the distance from the top edge of the sash to the upper slope of the installation point of the cornice. The distance must be at least 4.5 cm. Otherwise, you will have to measure into the overlay. Since the window may be uneven, measurements of width and height must be made at three points.

You can attach vertical blinds to a window opening in this way:

  1. Mark the attachment points.
  2. Drill holes.
  3. Install brackets.
  4. Insert the curtain rod into the special grooves on the holders and snap the locks into place.
  5. Install fabric.
  6. Insert weights.
  7. Secure the bottom chain.

Above the windows

To calculate the size, add at least 18-20 cm on each side to the width of the window opening. You will also need to measure the distance from the ceiling to the upper corner of the slope. You should retreat at least 10 cm from the upper corner of the slope. Measurements with fastening to the ceiling are made by subtracting 1-2 cm from the distance “ceiling - window sill”, “ceiling - floor” - 4-7 cm.

How to attach blinds to plastic windows, what should you pay attention to if you carry out installation work yourself, what is the difference between roller and horizontal structures?

Such questions are asked by those who decide to change the interior, replace traditional fabric curtains with their modern analogues.

Blinds are easy to use, do not interfere with opening windows, and provide good protection from the sun and dust.

There are blinds:

  • Horizontal - the slats (lamellas) are located horizontally, gathering upward during opening;
  • Vertical - the slats are installed vertically, open in one direction or the other, or move apart from the center;
  • Rolled - presented in the form of a single sheet, which is rolled into a roll as needed;
  • Pleated fabrics are characterized by a corrugated texture, treated with a special composition for strength. There are horizontal, vertical, and can be assembled into an accordion.

All these types can be:

  • wooden;
  • plastic;
  • aluminum;
  • fabric;
  • bamboo.

The choice depends on your preferences and financial capabilities.

Instructions for installing blinds yourself

The very first step is determining the dimensions. You can attach curtains to a window opening, wall, or ceiling. Having determined their future location, it is necessary to take correct measurements.

To secure the curtains to the opening, you need to take the following measurements. Determine the length - it will be equal to the height of the window glass with insulation (usually a strip of rubber) plus 1 cm.

Width is defined as the width of the glass, but taking into account sealing gum. Don't forget that plastic window should open freely when the blinds are assembled.

If you are going to attach curtains to the wall, then please note that they must completely cover the plastic window. The width will be 10 centimeters wider than the window.

The length, taking into account the cornice, increases by about 5 centimeters; its final size depends on whether the shutters cover the window sill or are located just above it.

When blinds are attached directly to plastic windows, the length will be its height and the width will be equal to the width of the window being closed.

We use the drilling method

You can fasten the structure using drilling tools, or do without them.

Let's look at how to properly hang horizontal curtains with your own hands directly to the window sash using the drilling method.

Since the curtains are attached with self-tapping screws, we mark their installation locations by placing the top bar of the blinds against the top window profile. Use a small drill to make holes and attach the brackets.

We fix the blinds and attach the fishing line that will hold the slats. On the lower part of the sash, again by drilling, we make two holes, placing them exactly under the upper exits.

We fix the fishing line in the structure of the blinds, fix the ends with plugs and thread them into the prepared holes, stretch the fishing line.

The drilling method discussed is usually used when it is necessary to hang rolled or horizontal structures.

This method is also used to hang vertical curtains. Holes are drilled at the fastening points and mounted using connecting elements.

Installation on brackets

The no-drilling method is used when the blinds will be subject to regular dismantling.

This method is safe and gentle on plastic windows, while installation without drilling is as reliable as the previous option.

During installation, special attention should be paid to fixing the upper part of the curtains. To avoid distortions, be careful when marking.

Features of fastening roll, horizontal and other types

Each type has its own installation characteristics. For example, it is better to install roller blinds directly on the window sash.

The structure of roller blinds with a different fastening will not allow the window to be opened when they are lowered.

Horizontal ones are universal structures; they can be hung between frames, attached to a wall, ceiling, etc.

The instructions for installing horizontal products cause the least difficulties during installation.

Therefore, if you are thinking about hanging blinds with your own hands, we recommend starting with this type.

Vertical - installation is done only by drilling, attached to the wall, ceiling, upper slope of the window.

It doesn’t matter whether you plan to use roller, horizontal or vertical blinds, they all require careful care. To ensure that your curtains serve you as long as possible, do not forget to wash and clean them.

In conclusion, we invite you to watch a video of a step-by-step installation of the structure on plastic windows with your own hands.

Blinds, which 10 years ago looked like real foreign exotica, have now become firmly established in our lives. Majority office premises and institutions have switched from using standard curtains to universal blinds, which generate less dust, look more formal and are incredibly comfortable.

Blinds are used even in rooms designed in classic style, because their functionality, ease of care and appearance are excellent. In addition, blinds provide effective protection of spaces from sunlight, allow you to easily adjust the level of illumination in the room, and reliably screen the room from prying eyes.

The installation of blinds must be carried out according to all the rules, otherwise you risk getting a lot of problems: the curtains will not move, the curtain will be difficult to assemble, etc. High quality installation provides blinds with long service life. When installing, you need to take into account the design features and the specifics of the walls (or window frames) in the room.

Manufacturers of PVC windows offer blinds of the most various forms and sizes. Depending on the purpose, blinds are made from:

There are different types of blinds:

These types differ significantly in the location of the slats and installation methods.

Vertical blinds are rare in ordinary residential premises; they are more often used in offices. They are mounted above the top edge of the window, similar to curtains, although this may negatively affect their functionality. And roller blinds and horizontal blinds are more often used at home instead of traditional curtains. They are installed not only in the window opening, but also on top of the window.

Roller blinds are mounted on the front surface of the corner of the upper slope of the window profile.

Blinds with horizontal slats can be mounted directly on the window profile, on each sash. Often horizontal slats are complemented with curtains. Installing blinds directly on the window profile saves useful place the room itself and frees up space on the windowsill.

The design of the blinds is:

For windows non-standard shape you need to use slats of a special length, which the best way will provide light protection to the room.

If your window has two sashes, then when installing the blinds, pay attention to the location of the blind lifting mechanism (right, left).

Three ways to install blinds:

  • onlay;
  • for each window sash separately;
  • directly into the window opening.

A factory set of blinds usually includes all materials for their installation: screws and self-tapping screws, as well as other parts.

The choice of installation option is related to the design features of the window: installing blinds on standard double-hung windows is a little easier than on inclined roof windows. One of the most difficult is the installation of blinds on PVC windows, since working with plastic compared to, say, wood, has a number of specific features. The installation of cornices on plastic windows must be carried out as carefully as possible and it is better to do this in the warm season (at temperatures above +5 degrees Celsius).

Installation of blinds on a window sash can be done using self-tapping screws, brackets, or by drilling holes in the frame. This is the most durable and reliable.

Important! The tightness of the profile does not suffer when the blind cornice is attached to it using drilling. If it becomes necessary to remove the cornice and holes remain in the frame, they can be filled with white silicone sealant.

If you don't want to drill holes, use brackets that attach to the frame without drilling.

Important! In most cases, blinds can be attached to screws that are already in the window profile. This installation method is no less reliable than drilling holes. You can learn about the possibility of such a simple installation from the blinds’ instructions.

Progress of installation of blinds

After unpacking the blinds, read the instructions. Installing blinds means: measuring the window and adjusting the dimensions of the blinds to it; then install the fastenings for the cornice and cord system; assemble the strips onto the cornice and check the functionality of the system.

Measurements are necessary so that later it will be convenient to use the light-protective sheet without complaining about distortions or frequent breakdowns. It is especially important to check the dimensions of the canvases and adjust them to the place of attachment if the window opening has a specific geometric shape.

Before screwing, you need to mark the position of the fasteners with a pencil, checking them with a level and a tape measure to avoid a skewed fit and leave room for adjusting the container, and also to ensure that the slats do not extend beyond the window glass.

2. Installation of cornice and slats

Before installation and actual installation, it is necessary to mark the fasteners with maximum accuracy and symmetry. Additional fastening must be provided for the control cord so that the structure can withstand the additional load. All elements are fixed to the wall with screws or dowels. Next is the installation of the cornice. The slats and runners themselves will be attached to it. The rigidity of the structure is guaranteed by the upper cornice strip, so there is no need to further strengthen the strip with glue, sealant or foam - it is fixed quite rigidly.

When re-installing, you need to measure the width of each window sash so that the window fittings do not interfere with the free hanging of the slats. Also, when choosing an installation “in the window opening”, you need to reduce the height on each side by 2 cm so that the canvas does not touch the window sill. To secure the blinds close to a plastic window, you need to drill the plastic window frame according to the markings - pre-drilling will prevent cracking of the plastic.

If the plates on which the blinds are hung do not fit tightly to the window profile, use pads.

Brackets for blinds are screwed into the holes using self-tapping screws. Next, you need to secure the brackets upward with latches and insert the container with the blinds into them.

The lower holders are attached like this: lower the curtain to mark the lower points (the canvas should be loosely stretched). Using these marks, drill holes into which you need to screw the lower holders that secure the canvas in the “micro-ventilation” position. Make sure that the staples sit firmly in the plastic.

When installing with an overlay, you need to add 5cm in width so that the entire opening is closed. The height is adjustable at will and can reach the window sill or the floor itself.

There are a number modern methods installation of blinds, which involves installing a cornice with slats on brackets attached to the window frame without drilling. The cornice with stripes is simply hung on the brackets and snaps into place. The design is collapsible, which allows you to remove the blinds when you need to wash them window glass or wipe the slats. This is the easiest way to install blinds.

Features of installation of blinds by type

Vertical blinds

Before installing vertical blinds, you need to decide whether wall or ceiling mount for the cornice. The height of the light-protective sheet depends on the place where the cornice is attached.

The thickness of the guide for vertical blinds should be at least 5-6 cm; such a gap will ensure free movement of the slats. If there is an obstacle between the blinds and the wall (batteries, etc.), then you will need to install an additional bracket, which is not included in the kit; it must be purchased separately.

If you want the blinds to be at some distance from the wall (there are different cases: pipe, etc.), you need to additionally purchase a bracket

For vertical blinds, the order in which the slats are hung is also important: they need to be attached to the cornice in the same order as they were in the factory box. Also, before installation begins, it is necessary to determine the correct direction of the pendants. Correct position, when in closed you can't see the seam on the blind material.

Don't forget to place the bottom weights on the vertical strips so that the canvas looks even. Cargo from external and inner sides connected to each other by a chain. The plumb line is attached to a cord that is included in the kit. Various manufacturers use plumb lines of different shapes.

There are many different mounts for vertical blinds in stores, but they are often unreliable. The safest way to mount the blinds is to use a pair of brackets that need to be screwed to the wall with self-tapping screws.

Roller and horizontal blinds

Horizontal and roller blinds, like vertical ones, can be equally conveniently installed on a wall, attached to a window or ceiling. The main thing is to clearly measure whether the canvas will interfere with opening the window. If this happens, if possible, you need to cut a hole in the strips in advance for comfortable opening of the window sashes.

When attaching with double-sided tape, do not forget to thoroughly remove dust and degrease the surface.

You have convinced yourself that self-installation making blinds is quite simple if you know a few tricks to make the process easier. Good luck using your own blinds!
