How to saw off a glass bottle. How to cut a glass bottle with regular thread? Easy and fast! Types of glass cutters for bottles

Today, every day it is gaining more and more momentum " Hand Made" creation. Very often, handicraftsmen use glass bottles in their creations. They are used to make vases, lamps, stands, etc.
I'll show you a very simple way to cut a bottle evenly in almost a few seconds.

All we need is nichrome wire, accumulator battery 12 V and cold water.

Cutting the bottle

First you need to determine the location of the incision. To make it even, take a piece of paper and wrap it around the bottle. Align the edges of the sheet so that the line is straight. Then take a felt-tip pen or marker and draw a border along the edge of the piece of paper. Now the leaf can be removed.

Next, you need to take a piece of nichrome wire with a diameter of 0.5 mm and attach one end to a stationary object. For these purposes I use a black weight. We immediately attach one wire from the battery to it.

We make a loop around the bottle. And we align it along the mark from the marker.

To avoid getting burned, take the wire with pliers. We tighten it just a little so that the wire is aligned.
Apply voltage to the second end of the wire.

It can be seen that the wire is hot. In places of contact with the bottle, the wire does not completely turn red, since the bottle takes away heat.

We wait without moving the wire and holding it under tension for about 30 seconds.
Then we quickly remove the wire and spray the heating area with water. You can also prepare a bucket of water and dip the bottle in it.

You will hear a peculiar click of the glass, and the bottle will burst exactly along the line where the nichrome wire passed.

The explanation is simple: when a certain place is heated in the glass, internal stress arises. After sudden cooling, the surface of the glass cools sharply, and its inner part it stays warm. As a result of such a sharp change, microcracks appear, which instantly turn into splits.

This trick can be done not only with round bottles, but also with square, oval, etc.

In this publication you will learn how to carefully and evenly use a jar using motor or vegetable oil.

Filling the dishes cold water to the level where we want to make a cut. We place it in some container, which also needs to be filled with water to the level of water from the container. Now add oil to the bowl until a thin oil crust forms on the surface of the water, which will completely envelop the glass container.

The most important thing is that you should not pour oil straight from the bottle, since the film will be uneven and thus you will not succeed.

Next, to carry out the procedure for cutting a bottle or jar, we will select a piece of metal. The thicker the glass we want to cut, the thicker the metal should be. The glass is quite thin, so the blade of a utility knife fit perfectly. Heat it red hot using a burner or gas stove.

Now lower the hot blade into the bowl just to the oil level.

Remember to protect your skin and eyes from hot splashes!

Due to the quickly heated film, the glass heats up, and due to the temperature difference it cracks. So we can cut it neatly glass bottle.

As you can see, the chip turned out perfectly smooth.

Having gathered at home after the celebration several wine bottles, I decided to use them somehow. After looking at ideas from the internet, I was faced with the problem of how to cut the bottle myself?

4 ways to cut a glass bottle

Make a cut on the bottle. To make the cut where your bottle will crack, use a glass cutter or glass drill bit. If you want, you can use some kind of bottle clamp to make sure the line around the bottle is straight.

Heat the bottle. Heat the cut you made with the glass cutter. You can use a small candle or butane lighter for heating. Point the flame directly at the cut line and constantly rotate the bottle to ensure even heating.

Place the bottle in cold water. Once you have spent about 5 minutes warming up the bottle, place the part of the bottle you want to cut into cold water. Do this in a sink or bowl of cold water.

Repeat the process. For the desired result, your bottle may require more than one heating and cooling procedure. Simply repeat the process of heating the bottle and submerging it in cold water until the desired part breaks off.

Clean the edges. Use coarse sandpaper to sand down the edges of the chip. Once you have removed all the sharp edges, use a lighter grit paper. Clean the edges right away, don’t put it off, otherwise you’ll cut yourself.

Enjoy the creation. Use your bottle to store pens instead of a glass, or make one beautiful vase. The options are endless!

Cutting your bottle with boiling water

Draw a cut line on the bottle. Make a line on the bottle where you need to cut. Use a glass cutter or glass drill to make one straight cut around the bottle. Do not overlap the cut line, otherwise the chip will be uneven.

Prepare the water. You will need a sink with cold running water, as well as a kettle with boiling water.

Pour boiling water over the bottle. Hold the bottle over the sink and pour slowly onto the cut line hot water from the kettle. Pour water evenly, do not go beyond the edges of the cut.

Place your bottle under running cold water. Once you've finished watering the cut hot water, then start watering it with cold water. The first time you do this, your bottle will most likely not break.

Continue running hot and cold water over the bottle. Remove the bottle from under the running cold water and start pouring boiling water over the cut. Pour the entire cut line around the entire bottle and then run it under cold water again. After the second or third attempt, the bottle should crack along the cut line.

Clean the edges. Use it sandpaper coarse grit to clean out chips. Once the edges are smooth, you can use fine sandpaper to make the edges smoother.

Cutting a bottle with yarn thread

Wrap the bottle in yarn thread. If you don’t have such threads on hand, then you can use any thick cotton cord. In the place where you would like to cut the bottle, wrap the yarn thread 3-5 times. Tie the ends together and cut off the excess thread.

Soak the thread in acetone. Remove the yarn from the bottle and place it in a small container. Start pouring nail polish remover or acetone onto the yarn until it is completely wet.

Wrap the thread around the bottle again. Take the string and wrap it around the bottle where you want the bottle to crack. The loops of yarn should fit tightly together so that you get an even cut.

Set fire to the thread. Use matches or a lighter to light the thread. Rotate the bottle slowly so that the yarn burns evenly around the bottle.

Place the bottle in cold water. Pour cold water into the sink or basin in advance. Wait until the fire on the yarn burns out, and then stick the end of the yarn bottle directly into the water. The bottle should split where the yarn was wrapped around it.

Clean the edges. Use coarse sandpaper to smooth out the sharp, jagged edges on the broken portion of the bottle. After removing the sharp corners, use fine sandpaper to give the bottle a smooth edge. Ready!

Cutting a bottle with a Dremel

Prepare your bottle. Your Dremel will do all the cutting work here, but you have to know where to cut. Take two strips of duct tape and place them around the bottle where you want to cut it, very close to each other but not touching. This will give you a cut line.

Cut the bottle. Insert the glass cutting attachment into the Dremel and begin to slowly cut the bottle along the line between the strips. You may have to go over the same area several times to get a clean cut.

Clean the edges. When a bottle splits along a line, the crack will likely have jagged edges that need to be smoothed out. Use coarse sandpaper to smooth out any sharp edges, then use fine sandpaper. Ready!

  • You can order a special tool for cutting wine bottles online if you don't like the methods above.
  • The temperature of the glass of the bottle should change gradually, except when you place the bottle in cold water. Otherwise, you will ruin the bottle.

Sometimes you come across just super ideas for design, someone suggests a table made of solid wood, someone offers shelves made of branches and you not only have the desire, but also free time, but...

To make even the most primitive shelf, you need good (not from the store, everything costs 35 rubles) screwdrivers, angles, “screws” of the required length, be able to cut smoothly, like the saw itself, plus a drill, or even better if the wall is made of concrete. And in the picture everything is just drop dead simple and beautiful!

What if the shelf has some decor? As here:

“Sticks are lying around at every step.” This is partly true, but they are either too thin or too thick or too dry or too rotten. But even if perfect sticks lie in front of your door threshold, you need to remove the bark, at least sand it somehow, and ideally varnish it, otherwise the sticks will quickly darken and age.

And it just seems that they are easy to attach. But what? Drill? Do you have a long thin drill? And the “screw” of such a length?

We look forward to creative success from you!

Decor made from glass bottles, quite popular in Lately, and since many are interested in the question of how to cut a glass bottle at home, without using a glass cutter, I want to devote today’s master class to a simple, but in an interesting way cutting bottles with thread...
In this connection, the topic of this master class is “How to cut a bottle with a thread - nothing complicated!”

For work we will need:
1. Glass bottle;
2. Wool threads;
3. Solvent (you can use kerosene, alcohol, cologne, acetone);
4. Scissors or stationery knife;
5. Gloves (will protect the skin of your hands from exposure to the solvent);
6. Lighter or matches;
7. To protect your eyes, just in case, glasses (in fact, there are no fragments, but there is no need to be too careful);
8. Deep basin filled with cold water.

So, how to trim a bottle with thread? Let's take it wool thread, measure and cut it so that it is enough for 3-4 turns of the bottle.
We immerse the measured and cut thread in the solvent, and immediately wrap the bottle in the place where we plan to make the “cut”. The thread can be simply wrapped or tied in a knot; in this master class I simply did the wrapping.

After that, we set this thread on fire with matches or a lighter, and it is better to hold the bottle in an inclined position - strictly horizontally (parallel to the ground), carefully twisting it around its axis.

The fire will burn for about 30-40 seconds, as soon as the lit thread goes out, quickly lower the bottle into a prepared basin filled with cold water.

Next, the characteristic sound of cracked glass will be heard, and the bottle will instantly split into two parts. This type of glass cutting is based on a rapid change in temperature; we all know from physics lessons that when heated, glass expands, and when cooled, it contracts, respectively, with a sharp change in temperature, a kind of destruction of the glass occurs and it simply cracks!

We figured out how to cut a bottle with thread, but how to process sharp glass edges? You can use sandpaper or a stone to sharpen knives. Lastly, you should process the edges of the bottle, previously immersed in water, so processing is easier and faster (it is better to protect your hands with rubber gloves). Friends, I ask you not to forget about the notorious safety precautions, no matter how you work with fire and glass, safety glasses for your eyes, gloves for your hands and a basin with plenty of water are required!

Round glass can serve not only as a vessel for liquid, but also as a source of inspiration. If you know how to cut glass bottles and jars, you can make a lot of amazing things. Starting from glasses and ashtrays, and ending with lamps and designer spatulas, the number of crafts made from recycled materials is limited only by a flight of fancy. It's amazing how original and beautiful things can be made from practically free material. The main thing is the desire to create, and we will talk about the process itself in this article.

Types of glass cutters for bottles

Today there are many ready-made devices for cutting glass jars and bottles. They all have different designs, but according to the type of action they are divided into only two groups: cutting and heating. General principle both groups remain united - the bottle is fixed in a horizontal position and rotates around the glass cutter or heating element. The operating principle of the devices is quite similar, but has some peculiarities.

Roller glass cutter for bottles has simple design and is widely used by DIY enthusiasts. Can be assembled with your own hands from available materials. The cost of the finished device varies from several hundred to a couple of thousand rubles. The cut line is fairly straight, but the edges require sanding. The best option for home craftsmen.

Bottle cutter with heating element has a more complex mechanism, but also more high quality cutting The device operates from the mains or battery. You can assemble one if you have special knowledge, but at your own peril and risk. Ready-made devices cost several thousand rubles and are unlikely to interest the majority of the population. Suitable for creative workshops or designers.

DIY glass cutter for bottles

There is no need to spend money on buying a glass cutter for bottles. This device is very simple, and if you have certain parts and desire, you can make it yourself. Below we will give step-by-step photo instructions on assembling a convenient and practical cutter. You may have to buy some parts, but they cost a penny and are sold at any market or hardware store.

Required materials:

  • Wooden base: 25 x 14 x 2
  • Side bar: 25 x 4 x 2
  • End block (stop): 11 x 4 x 2
  • Wooden slats: 25 x 1 x 2
  • Roll-out rollers: 4 pcs with a maximum diameter of 4 cm (preferably fixed rollers with rubber coating)
  • Cable channel: 25x2 (with minimum thickness)
  • Roller glass cutter
  • A little PVA glue and a handful of screws

Assembling the device
We will start with the most complex and exquisite stage of the work - assembling the cutting mechanism. Let's take it wooden slats 25 x 1 x 2 and saw off two 3 cm long sections from it. Carefully make through longitudinal holes in the resulting pieces of wood. They will serve as grooves for installing a hinge on which the guide with the glass cutter will run.

From the same rail, cut off another piece, 9-10 cm long, and arrange all the parts as in the photo below. We cut the cable channel cover to a length equal to the size of three wooden parts(2 pieces of 3 cm each and the width of the slats is 2 cm), approximately 8 centimeters.

At the next stage, we will fix the cutter on the guide. To do this, it is better to make a small recess at the end of the rail, which will serve as a kind of limiter for the glass cutter.

To prevent the wood from cracking when tightening the self-tapping screw, at the attachment point, you should make a hole in advance with a drill smaller diameter.

If your self-tapping screw, like the cutter in the photo, has recesses for breaking off glass, then you can use them for fastening. If there are no grooves, or they are located further than the cutting roller, then it is better to drill a mounting hole in the metal head. In general, the main thing is that the glass cutter is installed as in the photo.

After securing the cutter, it's time to put the structure together. To do this, screw two 3 cm bars along the edges of the cable channel cover. We screw hinge screws, no more than 4 centimeters long, into the pre-prepared grooves in the bars (long ones can be cut off). Drill at the bottom of the guide rail through hole, install it between the bars and fix it with self-tapping screws. So that the rail can rise, it bottom corner need to be smoothed using sandpaper or a file. We look at the photo and repeat.

Having finished designing the cutting mechanism, you can proceed to assembling the working platform of the future bottle cutter.
First of all, we attach a side block 25 x 4 x 2 to the base. These parts can be connected using self-tapping screws, screwing them in reverse side grounds. You can also use PVA glue or epoxy resin.

When the side part is fixed, you can proceed to installing the roll-out rollers. The first pair of wheels is installed at a distance of 3-4 cm from the upper edge of the base. The next pair is located 12 cm down. For more elongated bottles, you can prepare another set of holes, 5 cm below the second pair of rollers. Pay attention to the photo.

The final stage of assembly will be attaching the lower part of the cable channel to the edge of the side bar, and fitting the end stop with screws or glue.

With a slight movement of the hand, attach the cover with the cutter to the base of the cable channel and the device is ready for use!

Another way to attach a glass cutter.

How to cut a bottle without a glass cutter

A compact bottle cutter is a very convenient device, but it is made for frequent use. What to do for those for whom this procedure is isolated and will not be repeated in the next decade. Buying a ready-made device is expensive, but it takes a long time to assemble and it’s not guaranteed that it will turn out as it should. As you already understand, now we will talk about how to cut a bottle at home without a glass cutter.

This method of glass processing is based on heating with sudden cooling. For a sudden change in temperature, we need a meter of woolen thread, a flammable liquid (acytone, gasoline, kerosene, alcohol), large capacity With ice water and, in fact, the bottle. Having prepared all the components, you can get down to business.

We dip the woolen thread into a container with a flammable liquid so that it is completely saturated, and we wrap it in a thin line around the future chip site. Next, set fire to the thread and wait for it to burn out completely. While burning, hold the bottle horizontally and constantly rotate it so that the fire evenly heats the entire line. As soon as the flame goes out, immediately immerse the bottle in the prepared container with water. After a couple of seconds, the characteristic sound of glass breaking will be heard, signaling the successful separation of the bottle. If there is no click within 5 seconds, you can apply a little force and try to break it.

The presented technique can be successfully used for controlled chipping of most types of glass containers, but sometimes there are exceptions. The effectiveness of the temperature difference largely depends on the strength of the glass.
