Google how to open an optical drive. How to use Google Drive? Explaining complex things in simple terms

Recently, not only computer but also mobile technologies have been rapidly developing. In this regard, the issue of secure storage of relatively large volumes of information has become very acute. And it is for this purpose that many IT corporations offer users of any type of device the use of so-called cloud services. How to use the cloud and services that are included in the basic kit of any developer will now be discussed.

What is cloud storage?

First, let’s define what kind of service this is. Roughly speaking, this is file storage in the form of allocated disk space on a remote server of a company providing such services.

In other words, in a sense, it can be called a kind of virtual flash drive on which a certain amount of data is placed. However, if you need to constantly carry a USB device with you to access downloaded information, then such a service (for example, the Mail.Ru cloud or the corresponding Google service) can be accessed both from a computer and from a mobile device. That is, the files are synchronized in the cloud itself, and you can view or download them simply by entering your registration data (although in some cases this is not required).

Quite a lot has already been written about how to use the cloud. Now let’s pay attention to some main points, and also consider the simplest principles of its use, explaining the situation in detail.

Most popular services

It goes without saying that initially, to use such storages, you need to decide on a service provider, that is, choose the most suitable service for yourself

Today you can find quite a lot of such services. The most popular are the following:

  • Dropbox.
  • SkyDrive.
  • Cloud Mail.Ru.
  • "Yandex.Disk".
  • Google Drive (Google Disk).
  • Apple iCloud and iCloud Drive.
  • OneDrive, etc.

Before we figure out how to use each type of cloud, it should be noted that these services are somewhat uneven when compared to each other. The fact is that some repositories can be accessed exclusively from a computer terminal, while others require synchronization of both computers and mobile devices. Sometimes you may need a specialized application that plays the role of a kind of conductor, sometimes just an Internet browser is enough.

The same applies to freely allocated disk space for storing your files, as well as payment for additional space on a remote server. In any case, most services are very similar to each other.

What should you pay attention to before starting work?

Now let's look at some important points, without which the use of cloud services is out of the question.

The very first and most important thing is pre-registration, and in some cases it does not matter at all whether it will be done via the Internet using a regular browser or a special computer or mobile application. The whole process takes a few minutes.

Mobile devices with operating systems installed on them differ favorably from stationary systems. The fact is that when you turn it on for the first time, to access some advanced functions or stores such as AppStore or Google Play (Play Market), the system initially prompts you to create an account (registered email address and password). At the same time, your smartphone or tablet already has a pre-installed application for working with cloud services. For convenience, you can install their desktop counterparts on your computer or laptop (although access can also be obtained through a browser).

Allocable disk space

Another important point- the amount of disk space that the user initially receives in the free version. As a rule, the volume on different services ranges from 5 to 50 GB. If this is not enough, you will have to increase the storage capacity and pay a certain amount for it, which includes the cost of purchasing more volume and maintenance for a certain period of use, which, by the way, can also vary.

General principles

As for how to use the cloud in the broadest sense, everything is quite simple. After registration, the user only needs to add folders and files, contacts and much more to the storage.

At the same time, in the settings section, he can add friends who, like him, will upload files to the server or edit them (the simplest example is Dropbox). Often, new users can use their own passwords to log into the system.

But here's what's interesting. When installed on a computer, access to files in the cloud is much faster than when launching the same Internet browser. The same can be said about synchronization. It is enough to place the files in the application folder, and synchronization will be performed instantly for all users who have access rights to the service. Let's look at the most popular storage facilities.

Cloud Mail.Ru

So, as mentioned above, you will first need to create an email account, after entering which the cloud service will be displayed in the panel at the top in the projects tab. This is the Mile cloud. How to use it? As easy as pie.

Initially, 25 GB of disk space is offered. Uploading files is carried out using the corresponding button, which can be used to add several objects at once. The limitation concerns only the size of the uploaded file - it should not exceed 2 GB. Before starting the download, you can use additional functions, for example, create and then just as easily files can be moved and deleted. Please note: it does not have a “Trash”, as in the same Yandex service, so it will not be possible to restore deleted information.

The function of creating, viewing or editing files can be very useful. Let's say we have a Word document (or it is created directly in the repository). Changing it directly in the cloud can be as easy as if the user were launching the editor on a computer. Upon completion of work, we save the changes, after which synchronization occurs again.

Yandex cloud: how to use?

With the Yandex service, in principle, things are almost identical. The functional set, in general, does not differ much.

But the developers of this service thought that the user could delete files completely by accident. This is where the so-called “Trash” comes to the rescue, into which information is placed when deleted. It works like a standard computer service. True, data recovery tools are not applicable to it if they have already been deleted from the Recycle Bin. Nevertheless, the function is very useful.

Google Drive storage

Now let's move on to another powerful service called Google Cloud. How to use Google Drive? Fundamental differences compared to other services, no. But here access can be obtained both from a mobile device (built-in service) and using a utility installed on a computer (not to mention logging in via an Internet browser). With a phone or tablet everything is simple, let’s look at the computer program.

We assume that Account has already been created. After activation, the user receives 5 GB of storage. An increase to 25 GB will cost approximately 2.5 USD. We install the application on the computer, after which the service folder appears on the Desktop (it is also displayed in Explorer).

As is already clear, just place the files in this directory and synchronization will occur. During operation, the program “hangs” in the system tray as an icon. Right-click opens where you can view the available space for downloading files, make personalized settings, expand storage space, shut down, etc.

One point is especially worth noting here. As it turns out, copying files to the program folder on your computer and then downloading them from the cloud to your mobile device turns out to be much faster than connecting the gadget to your computer and then copying them using Windows.

iCloud and iCloud Drive services

Finally, let's look at how to use the Apple cloud. There are two services (iCloud and iCloud Drive) that are pre-installed on the iPhone or iPad according to the version operating system installed on the device. Essentially, iCloud Drive is an updated version of iCloud, and for it to work correctly, I should take into account that the mobile gadget must meet the stated technical requirements: iOS 8 on the device itself. Computer - with Windows 7 or higher with the iCloud for Windows extension, or a computer terminal with Mac OS X 10.10 or OS X Yosemite.

Initially, after logging into the service, folders created by default will be displayed there. Their number may vary depending on the settings of the computer and the client on the mobile device. How to use the cloud on iPhone? In principle, there is nothing supernatural about this. It is enough to launch the application on the gadget (switch the launch slider to the on state) and log in using your account. It's another matter when the input is supposed to be from a computer. Here you will need to use the settings menu of the program itself and select enable there.

Another disadvantage is the rather low synchronization speed (this is recognized by everyone). And one more, most unpleasant moment. If you switch from iCloud to iCloud Drive without updating all devices to the required configuration, the data in the old cloud will simply not be accessible, so be vigilant.

Conclusion

That’s briefly all that concerns the question of how to use the Cloud application or services of the same name. Of course, not all the possibilities of such services are considered here, but, so to speak, only general principles(basics) of work. However, even with such minimal knowledge, any newly registered user will be able to carry out basic operations within 5-10 minutes.

Cloud file storage is a fairly convenient way to save your data on a remote server, saving space on your PC’s hard drive and at the same time being able to quickly access it from any computer or device that has Internet access. One of the most popular services for cloud data storage is Google Drive.

Google Drive features

Google Drive provides its users with up to 15 GB of free space to store any files. In case this is not enough, for a fee the virtual disk can be expanded up to 1 Terabyte. If you wish, you can give other users access to some files stored in the cloud storage and specify the level of access - they can edit the file or only view it.

In addition, it is possible to open files directly in the browser window. Google Drive supports many common file formats, such as PDF, PSD, RAR, DOC, AVI, FLV and others. This feature is especially useful when you access a file storage service from a device that does not have the appropriate program to open the file.

Google Drive also has a recovery feature. The service saves all the changes you have made to files over the last 30 days, and if necessary, you can return the file to one of the previous versions.

Among the additional features of the service, it is worth highlighting the ability to work with documents together with other users and an advanced search function. While you're collaborating on a document, you can instant message with other users right in the document window. And Google Drive's advanced search even includes scanned documents.

How to use Google Drive

In order to start using the Google Drive cloud file storage service, you must first create an account on Google +. If you already have an account, you can immediately go to Google Drive and click the button Try.

Download the installation distribution to your computer and install the program. Next, enter your data: email address and password. When setting up Google Drive, you can choose the location of the folder to sync. To do this, click the button Advanced settings and at the top of the window indicate the location of your folder.

After installation and configuration, folder synchronization will begin. The Google Drive icon should then appear in your taskbar. By clicking this icon, you can open a Google Drive folder on your local computer or on the Internet, expand cloud storage space, close Google Drive, or make some program settings.

All files that you place in your Google Drive folder will be automatically copied to Google cloud storage and you can access them from any device that has internet.

From your Google Drive web page, you can create new document, presentation, drawing or table - there is a special editor for this, with an interface similar to MS Office.

To give other users access to a specific file, right-click on it and select the item from the context menu Sharing and configure the access level. Then copy the link and send it to those you want to share the file with.

If you delete a file from a Google Drive folder, it is placed in the Trash on your local computer and in the Trash in your cloud storage. To recover a deleted file from storage, go to the Google Drive page, click the button on the left menu More and select Basket. Go to cart, check the box necessary elements and press Restore.

Cloud storage called Google Drive, also known as Google Drive in bourgeois, also formerly known as Google Docs, is located at drive.google.com and provides fifteen gigabytes for free. Since the most effective and visual method of cognition is comparison with analogues, it is applicable. And at the same time, we will explain everything scrupulously to inexperienced, novice computer users.

How to start

It all starts with mail. I mean, from registering with Gmail. This is the starting point for using any Google services; you can’t do without it.

Then we go to a service called Disk. You can either find it in the list of products, if you don’t see it in the bar at the top, or type the address indicated in the preamble.

Since it is extremely inconvenient to dump fifteen gigabytes into one pile, we create folders. For this purpose, on the left there is a red button with an obvious name that expands the list. In which we select “Folder”. All that remains is to enter its name and enter it.

Next to “Create” there is another button, also red, but slightly smaller. It shows an up arrow. This means uploading something to the cloud storage in question. Don't believe me? Hover your pointer over it and the “Download” prompt will pop up.

Click, select files, and wait for the process of uploading your data to the cloud to complete.

Unlike the situation observed in Ubuntu One, the download window does not disappear by itself when finished; you need to close it manually. But the scripts don’t run riot when adding files to the list, don’t warm up the computer and don’t force the browser to slow down.

On Yandex.Disk, the fan at such a moment can roar like a wounded bear. But there, despite the service’s existence for quite a long time, everything is still so crooked, not optimized, buggy and faulty that there is nothing to be surprised about.

In the Dropbox web interface, only the so-called basic uploader actually works, which allows you to upload one file at a time. However, there are only two free gigabytes.

Download

Method one, for several files: check the boxes next to the desired objects - expand the list under the “More” button on the panel at the top (it appears after checking the boxes) - agree to download as a zip archive - wait for archiving to complete - finally download.

Method two, the easiest for any file: right click on it - “Download”.

Method three, if you clicked on something by accident: look at the darkened screen with a very meaningful message, they say, preview is impossible, there is nothing to open such a file, don’t blame me - find the button with the down arrow in the lower right (this is how downloading is indicated) - Click on it to get the desired result.

Method four, for one document: click, wait for the document to open in the online application - “File - Download”.

SkyDrive's interface is clearer, more convenient, and has the highest level of intuitiveness. You can immediately see where you should click what, so as not to open the document in an online editor, but to download it immediately.

Well, Ubuntu One is just a storage facility, where the download is started by simply clicking on the file. But you won’t be able to pick up several pieces through the web interface in one fell swoop. For the reason that you cannot select several pieces. Although the service is developing, we will see further.

Let's go back to our Google Drive. What's really missing is the "Download" button next to "View" (with the stylized eye).

Documentation

In fact, documents can also be opened in Microsoft SkyDrive. Moreover, the ODF format (*.odt) is supported there, which for some reason has not yet been implemented in Google Drive, despite Google’s favor towards Linux.

Regarding Google Drive, it is better to create documents from scratch rather than uploading ones made locally. It doesn't matter if the formatting gets lost. The problem is that tabs are thrown out at the beginning of each paragraph. Both in downloaded files created in LibreOffice Writer, and in text copied from LibreOffice.

In what format to download the results to disk, this also raises questions. It seems that it turns out completely without any jambs, only in PDF.

Photos

These are best packaged in archives and uploaded to the cloud in the form of zip files. Since the Google+ social network is in a never-ending process of permanent development, photos may suddenly move to albums there (formerly Google Picasa). And in those albums, according to eyewitnesses, confusion often arises.

However, when using mobile devices, of course, there is no particular choice. Either the photos are uploaded to Google+ (using an app) or to Google Drive (via another app) along with other file types.

Moreover, it is quite difficult to predict further changes and nuances in the Google Drive application. But, of course, you can install it in Android and try it.

How to share

Right click on the file - “Sharing” - “Sharing” again. There are buttons for sending by mail to Gmail, as well as to social networks. But we are interested in specific, precise and controlled tuning. Therefore, in the “Access Levels” section, just below, click “Configure”. Everything is obvious there.

You can share a whole bunch of files at once. We tick them and click the button that appears at the top with a little man and a plus at his left shoulder. Then many links will be offered for copying at once.

Documents from links that you copy and place anywhere on the Internet will not be downloaded, but will be opened in the online editor. Therefore, to save them on a local disk (on a computer), the user will have to click “File - Download”.

You should also remember that the documents you share will certainly and inevitably be indexed in a search engine (Google, what else).

For the writer

Is the service suitable for a writer who intends to compose something online, traveling around the world and logging into Google Drive? The answer is clear: no.

For creative endeavors, only the Microsoft SkyDrive online editor in their cloud service is suitable.

Why? To understand this, it is enough to read and compare the user agreements. Google gets the right to use all your content literally (no exaggeration!) however they want. In fact, the user agreement cancels the entire set of copyrights, property and non-property. Microsoft, fortunately, does not allow anything like this.

The same applies to journalists, reporters writing dissertations, etc. Working on texts in the Google service under discussion is potentially unsafe.

Let's summarize

So, we made a comparison with similar services. Now, without breaking tradition, let's summarize.

Disadvantages of Google Drive cloud storage: lack of ODF support, not very intuitive interface, confusion with photo albums, user agreement gives Google the rights to anything and everything.

Advantages: fifteen gigabytes, convenient to share on Google+ and Twitter, convenient to send links by mail (Gmail), software is optimized and does not cause the computer to heat up, slow down, or glitch.

That is, to put it differently, it is better to keep more or less confidential files in Ubuntu One, work with documents in Microsoft SkyDrive, and share something with the population of the planet in Google Drive.

Hello, my regular readers and blog guests. Ekaterina Kalmykova is with you. Have you ever wondered how much information is around us that we use willy-nilly? In the modern world, billions of terabytes of information are consumed. Just think about this value - billions, or even more.

The size of RAM in new computers is growing every year, but users still don’t have enough. The advent of external storage media, such as flash cards or removable hard drives, seemed to ease the situation. But even among high-quality storage media, many products appeared that broke a month after use and blocked access to the necessary data.

The latest trend in the world of information storage is cloud storage. One of the most popular virtual drives is Google Drive. The emergence of cloud storage in the famous search engine made the issue of lack of storage space less pressing.

What kind of beast is this, Google Drive? How to use it? Let's figure it out together, friends!

We will find out how to use Google Drive a little later. First, you need to figure out why you need a virtual disk to store information.

Google Drive allows computer users to save money on flash cards and external hard drives by storing personal files on the Internet, saving time and simplifying work with information data.

Do you have any idea how Excel Google works? It allows you to create tables online and store them in the cloud. If you wish, you can give access to the table to certain users, or you can hide it from everyone. Google Drive works on the same principle.

At the same time, the information on the disk is synchronized with other devices, including tablets and smartphones. The synchronization function eliminates the need to take removable media with you on the road, because all documents are on the computer, but do not take up space on it.

So, what can you store on Google Drive:

  • documents in doc, pdf, ODF format, etc.;
  • Excel tables;
  • photos;
  • video;
  • audio.

Google cloud storage can replace your hard drive and eliminate the problem of eternal loss and breakdown of flash drives. This method of storing information can also be used by those who suffer from a constant lack of memory on their computer, those who like to download movies in high quality, music lovers who download hundreds of songs every month.

Google Drive has undeniable advantages and minor disadvantages, like everything else in the world. Among the advantages is that cloud storage cannot be lost, forgotten, or broken. It's a stable place to store information that very little can happen to. The virtual disk does not need to be carried with you; it is located in your computer or tablet, even in your phone.

In my opinion, it has only one drawback: the amount of free space for storing files is limited. You can only take up 15 GB of space for free. But the surcharge for additional quantities is small.

If you think about it, one minus is not worth a lot of pluses. You agree with me?

What you need to know about using Google Drive

How to use cloud storage so that it brings joy? First you need to decide on what device you plan to create the disk. There is an option to work with the disk through the browser you are using, and there is another option - download Google Drive to your tablet or smartphone. Let's look at both options.

Creating a disk on a computer

Please note: to create cloud storage with Google, you must register on the Google website and have a mailbox in this system.

Typically it ends at gmail.com.

Owners of Google-based mail should log into their account, click on the square next to their avatar and you will see the “Disk” icon.

When you click on the icon called “Disk”, a page will open in a new tab or window, where in the left bottom corner it will say that the disc can be downloaded to your computer.

After this, a window will open where you will need to click the icon that says “Forward”, then the storage will open on your computer and you can transfer the necessary files there. Once the installation is complete, the Google Drive icon will appear in the taskbar and on your desktop. To open the drive, you will need to click on any of these icons.

As you can see, the process of creating a disk on cloud storage is very simple and does not take much time. Even a computer novice, let alone professionals, can cope with this. You will feel the benefits of using cloud storage instead of removable storage media in the first hours of use.

Creating a disk on your phone

Want to create a drive on your phone? Please, this can be done on both iOS and Android operating systems.

As I wrote above, you can log into cloud storage via a computer, phone or tablet. To access your storage via your phone or tablet, you need to download the Google Drive app. You can download it either from the Play Market or from the Google website itself.

To open the My Page or My Drive tab, click on the application icon. You will see a login form where you will need to write your Gmail username and password. After logging in, your page with files will open.

Please note that all files can be changed in real time. Synchronization with other devices occurs instantly. Using the drive on your tablet or smartphone makes your work much easier.

The only condition for changing documents in real time and synchronizing them with other devices is a working Internet.

If you do not have a mobile device running Android OS, then you can use

Hello, dear readers of the blog site. Today I want to continue cloud storage topic(file hosting), which allow you not to carry flash drives and other media with you, but still have access to the necessary data at home, at work and on the road (from a computer, tablet or smartphone).

Our today's hero (guinea pig) will be Google Drive, which appeared one of the last among the major players in this market (if you do not take it into account), but nevertheless has in its arsenal unique capabilities that allow it to gain some competitive advantages.

Features of Google Drive and why it is so remarkable

Before I start talking about this cloud service for storing various important and not so important data, I’ll just say a couple of phrases about competitors, of which there are quite a few:

  1. — seduces with its ability to work with office documents (sharing, working through an online interface). It also has a unique opportunity for this type of service to receive remote access to the contents of your computer from the Internet (not just the OneDrive folder, but the entire contents of your computer’s hard drives). The free plan gives you 7 GB of disk space in the cloud.
  2. — appeared historically first on this market, and in addition great opportunity rollback to the previous version of a file (in the free account, the history of changes is stored only for the last month) has a convenient (familiar) interface and is supported by a bunch of mobile applications. 2 GB are provided for free, which can then be easily expanded to 16 GB.
  3. - now it no longer looks like a simpleton compared to competitors, but nevertheless, when I posted some for download on Dropbox, they were blocked after a while, because excessive traffic was created. In Yandex, these same courses are still available and no complaints have been made about the heavy load. Here you can get 10-20 GB of free space in the cloud for free.

5 reasons to store files in Google Cloud

Google Drive also has its own features that force many potential users to choose this service.
  1. The main feature, it seems to me, is exclusively convenient online work with files(tests, tables, presentations, graphics, etc.). Much of this is due to legacy tools.

But the total number of file types (more than 30) that can be viewed in their web interface from any device (computer, laptop, tablet, phone) is still impressive.

What's noteworthy is that for those file types that Google Drive does not support, you can install an application from third-party developers.

  2. If we talk about disk space in the cloud, which this service provides free of charge, then everything is quite at the same level - 15 GB. However, you should keep in mind that this space is allotted to you not only for storing files in Google Drive, but also for storage, as well as for storage.

If you already have mail in this system, then the login and password from your Gmail mail will be suitable for logging into Drive.

If you don’t have a Google account yet, you will have to create one by clicking on the “Create an account” button shown. Everything is simple there - you need to fill out the fields, confirm your mobile phone number and start using it (you won’t be able to create an account without a cell phone number, alas).

Access to files and folders for everyone via the link

But personally, I’m generally more comfortable provide access via link by clicking on the button of the same name in the sharing dialog:

Why is this convenient? Well, not everyone has a Google account (although most do), and access via a link is like a bearer deposit - whoever has the link gets access.

In this case, you do not lose any opportunities. Even access rights You can assign the same functions to this file or folder - viewing, commenting and editing.

You can share individual files or documents, or entire folders containing them. Those who follow the link you sent will have the opportunity to either simply view these files or download them (if desired). In general, everything is as it should be in “the best houses in London and Zhmerinka” (other cloud services).

Shared folders are marked with a blue man when viewing a Google Drive folder on a computer.

How to remove a file or folder on your disk from sharing

To remove the ability to share some previously shared folders or files, you will need to go through the process described above again by clicking on the name of the user to whom access was granted:

In the window that opens, just click on the cross next to his name:

Google Drive Settings are quite primitive (to get into them, just click on the tray icon and select the corresponding item in the three-dot context menu that appears) and the only thing you may need is to log out of your account to log into another (there are 15 GB and there are so many same).

Oh yes. If you have a situation where the two of you use the same account in “My Drive” (my wife and I do exactly this), then it makes sense to check the “Synchronize only these folders” box so as not to waste time, space on your computer and traffic on synchronization of “other people’s” files you don’t need.

Online version of “My Disk” and miraculous recovery

Let me remind you once again that the Google Drive web interface is available at drive.google.com. Naturally, it is possible from there, and not just from a computer through the program described above. To do this, there is a “My Disk” button located at the top left with a down arrow (with a spoiler).

Actually, in the download window that opens, find the necessary folders or files on your computer, after which a window opens in the lower right corner indicating the download process.

In the Google Drive web interface, you can perform certain actions on the objects available there using the context menu(appears when you right-click on a file or folder). What’s remarkable is that the same menu is available when you select a file with the left button and click the button with three dots in the upper right corner (see screenshot below).

The sharing option we have already discussed will be available there, as well as a number of other options that are not available in the desktop version of Drive.

This is, for example, version control, which I mentioned at the beginning of the article (appears only for objects that have changed). Google stores all versions of documents for a month and, if necessary, you can always access them. You can see them by right-clicking on the file and selecting the appropriate tab.

Let's say you wrote an article in Word and stored the draft on Google Drive. At a certain stage, a fragment of text was accidentally deleted, and only a few days later they died. Most likely, you will not have another option for restoring what you have lost (unless you use it).

Voila! In the menu of the desired version of the document, click on the “Download” button and your precious information is restored.

You can also use Google Cloud access those folders on your computer, which you chose to back up when you installed Backup & Sync.

All these file folders are available on the tab "Computers" from the left menu of “My Drive”. In principle, you can connect as many computers as you like to one account and all the data from important folders will be available to you in the cloud:

The folders of this particular computer are opened by double-clicking on its name:

Very convenient thing, which, coupled with all the other advantages of the cloud from Google, can tip the scales towards using this particular storage service.

On the tab "Available to me"(from the left menu) you will find all the files and folders that other users of this cloud have shared with you (provided access to view or edit). It’s also very convenient, you’ll agree.

Settings appearance and the functionality of the online version of Google Drive you will find in the upper right area.

There you can change the display of files (list or previews), see the shortcut keys for convenient work with the application, and also see a rather meager set of settings hidden behind the menu item of the same name.

If something remains unclear, here is a video to help you:

Online office from Google based on the My Drive service

As I already mentioned, Google Drive is not just a place to store important data and quickly access it. This is also online office, although not as sophisticated as SkyDrive, but still quite universal and with the possibility of expanding its functionality through third-party extensions.

This means that you can not only store objects in it, but also create or edit them. To create a new file Use the button of the same name in the upper left corner, or the drop-down menu of the “My Drive” button.

As you can see, it is possible to create a new text document in the online editor (opens in a new window), a new table in the style of Excel, new presentation(ala PowerPoint), a new form, or a drawing in the built-in graphic editor or an external one, which I have already written about in some detail.

Impressive, isn't it? If these options are not enough for you, then click on the button located at the very bottom "Connect other applications" to expand them. In the window that opens, you can read the description and, if desired, connect the application you like.

For example, I chose the Pixlr Editor, an analogue of online Photoshop that is well known to me. Now I have added a corresponding item to the “Create” button menu, after clicking on which I will first have to give permission to this application to access my Google Drive so that it can save the picture I edited in Pixlr there.

Some of the documents created in Google Drive can be embed on your site. It’s quite difficult for me to imagine why this might be needed, except perhaps to add a form to receive some information from readers. Or, for example, you can display the contents of electronic documents on the pages of your blog.

On the page that opens, click the “Start publishing” button, and then in the lower area of the window, select “Html for embedding in the page” from the drop-down list. A code will appear below, which will need to be inserted into the desired place on the web page.

Actually, using the table as an example, it will be possible to show another feature of Google Drive (Docs) - document sharing. A little earlier we looked at examples of file sharing and were somewhat surprised at the complexity of this process. These complexities were precisely what was needed to implement shared access.

So, again from the “File” menu, select the item "Sharing", after which a window that is already familiar to us will open, where you will need to add the name or email address (in Gmail, of course) of the user with whom you plan to work together on the document. There you can open access via a link. If you forgot what this is, then scroll up the article to the description of access to files and folders.

In addition, you will need to indicate his rights and capabilities for working with this document by selecting one of the options from the drop-down list - editing, commenting, viewing. The difference between them is significant, so read the instructions before making a decision.

    Google Drive for mobile devices

I used the application for Ipad and Android in my work, and in general it did not cause me any complaints. Some types of files can be edited directly in this application, although doing this on a phone is not so convenient by definition.

The application doesn’t have many settings (the transition to them is at the very bottom of the menu shown in the previous screenshot), but among them there is, for example, setting up a backup copy of your phone’s data to the cloud.

In addition, it is possible to automatically synchronize videos and photos with a folder in the cloud (or Google Photos).

It's good that there is an opportunity view files offline. As you understand, when working with Google Drive and any other cloud from a mobile device, no one will upload the entire contents of the “My Drive” folder to it (this is done only on desktop computers and laptops).

However, so that each time your gadget does not waste Internet traffic viewing the same photos or files (which do not change), you can save them in the memory of your mobile device. In the mobile version of Google Drive, this is achieved by moving the engine "Offline access" to the active position.

There you can, if you wish, activate access to the file via a link or joint editing of this document, perform all sorts of actions on it (delete, move, rename), and also open the file in another application installed on your gadget.

To sum it up, then Google cloud impression good. Previously there were complaints, but now all the flaws have been removed. It turned out conveniently, massively and virally. I now use this cloud along with Dropbox, although in the latter I still took a paid plan.

Google Drive is one of the best solutions for storing and working with files in the cloud. Moreover, it is also a full-fledged online office suite.

If you are not yet a user this decision from Google, but want to become one, this article is for you. We will tell you how to create Google Drive and properly organize work in it.

To start using cloud storage from Good Corporation, you just need to have your own Google account. We have already told you how to create it.

Here we will look at expanding access to Google Drive beyond the web browser - desktop and mobile platforms.

Google Drive for PC

A more convenient way to synchronize local files with the Google cloud on your computer is a special application for Windows and macOS.

Google Disk allows you to organize work with deleted files using a folder on your PC. All changes in the corresponding directory on your computer are automatically synchronized with the web version. For example, deleting a file in a Drive folder will cause it to disappear from cloud storage. Agree, it’s very convenient.

So how can you install this program on your computer?

Installing the Google Drive app

Like most Good Corporation applications, installation and initial setup of Drive takes just a few minutes.

How to use the Google Drive app for PC

Now we can synchronize our files with the cloud by placing them in a special folder. You can access it either from the quick access menu in Windows Explorer or using the tray icon.

This icon opens a window from which you can quickly access the Google Drive folder on your PC or the web version of the service.

Here you can also go to one of the recently opened documents in the cloud.

Actually, from now on all you need to upload a file to cloud storage is to place it in the folder Google Drive on your computer.

You can also work with documents that are in this directory without any problems. When you finish editing the file, its updated version will be automatically uploaded to the cloud.

We looked at installing and starting to use Google Drive using a computer running Windows as an example. As mentioned earlier, there is a version of the application for devices running macOS. The principle of working with Disk in the Apple operating system is completely similar to that described above.

Google Drive for Android

In addition to the desktop version of the program for synchronizing files with Google cloud storage, there is, of course, a corresponding application for mobile devices.

You can download and install Google Drive on your smartphone or tablet from Google Play.

Unlike the desktop app, Google's mobile version allows you to do everything that the cloud storage web interface does. And in general the design is very similar.

You can add file(s) to the cloud using the button + .

Here, in the pop-up menu, options are available to create a folder, scan, text document, table, presentation, or download a file from the device.

The file menu can be called up by clicking the icon with a vertical ellipsis next to the name of the required document.

A wide range of functions are available here: from moving a file to another directory to saving it in the device’s memory.

From the side menu, you can go to a collection of images in the Google Photos service, documents available to you from other users, and other categories of files.

As for working with documents, by default only the ability to view them is available.

If you need to edit something, you need the appropriate solution from the Google package: Docs, Sheets and Presentations. If necessary, the file can be downloaded and opened in a third-party program.

In general, working with the Disk mobile application is convenient and very simple. Well, it makes no sense to talk about the iOS version of the program separately - its functionality is absolutely the same.

Applications for PCs and mobile devices, as well as the web version of Google Drive, represent an entire ecosystem for working with documents and storing them remotely. Its use can completely replace a full-fledged office suite.

You may think that this is a completely pointless idea. But how many times have you had to copy or move files from one computer to another using a flash drive? Probably a lot. But with Google Drive you will have access to your information from absolutely any PC, tablet, or phone that has an Internet connection.

This service can save any documents in a variety of formats: tables, presentations, and so on. Admit it, this is a fairly convenient resource that provides access to your files without electronic media.

Using Google Drive

Naturally, to use this storage, you should register on the official Google website. This is done quite simply: you need to fill out several fields and confirm registration via SMS, which will be sent to mobile phone. After this, it will automatically transfer you to Google mail. Almost everything is ready!

In the application work area, in the upper left corner, you will see the inscription “create”, it is clearly visible, it is written on a red background. Select the menu option you need, for example, “Upload file.” A tree of your local drives and folders on your computer will open in front of you, select the file you need and click “Open”, it will be immediately written to Google Drive.

There are also services that allow you to very quickly open text documents, tables and presentations. This is very convenient, especially for workflow. Your work will benefit from this cloud space.

I really like this feature: you can see all the changes that have been made to the files. That is, it displays which files I created, and the entire history of their changes is saved.

Quite a simple and reliable service, isn’t it?! The intuitive interface is very easy to use. From the first second of working with Google Drive, you will understand what to do and how.

If you are not used to working through a browser, then I suggest you download the application to your computer. In the lower left corner there is a button “download disc for PC”.

Installing the program is very simple, there are no difficulties.

After this, you will be able to use files uploaded to the cloud without launching a browser, but through a program on your computer.

Regarding the space provided. You have 15 GB for free. But this is not the limit.

Many large companies trust Google's cloud storage not only because this service helps eliminate the use of email and other types of remote information transfer for exchanging documents and media files, but also for security reasons. All problems in the system are immediately identified and corrected. There can be no information leakage.

With Google cloud storage, you will have access to the functions of a regular drive on your computer: if you accidentally deleted something, don’t worry, the file has been moved to the Trash section.

In order for all your friends or colleagues to be able to view a document, you just need to upload it to Google Disk and give them access to it. Now everyone will be able to view files, add new ones and edit old ones (this depends on the rights you grant them as the owner).

Smartphone app

Of course, the easiest way is to use the Google Drive service on your computer. But what if you don't have such an opportunity? There is a solution, namely the Google Disk mobile client, which will allow you to download and view files anywhere, with your phone or tablet at hand. This application is designed for the Android operating system.

Navigating the program is very simple and is almost no different from the computer version. The application package contains utilities that will allow you to open both media files and text documents.

You can find the service client on the Google website or download it from the Play Market. If you do not have a device running Android OS, then you can use the mobile version of the resource. On that Alternative option you will be redirected as soon as the system determines the type of device you logged in from.

Let's sum it up

In general, in order to take full advantage of this cloud service from Google, just follow a few simple steps:

  2. After confirming your registration, go to your account, where you can open the Google Drive application.

In the mobile version, in addition to all the above points, it is worth adding downloading and installing the client from the official website or Play Market.

I hope that after my words it became clear to you how to use Google Drive and why, in fact, the service itself was developed. Simple management of this cloud storage will allow even the most inexperienced user to instantly understand the interface and forget about flash drives and e-mail, as a file sharing tool.
