Features of the gate device

The most important part of the cantilever gate design is the electromechanical drive, consisting of an electric motor with a planetary gearbox and drive gear, and a rack mounted on the lower supporting beam of the movable panel. The entire drive structure is mounted on a massive concrete base reinforced with steel rods. Often, the drive structure with a concrete “cushion” is placed closer to the gate “pocket” so as not to interfere with the movement of the car.

The moving part of the structure is made in the form of a panel or frame mounted on rollers. When a signal to close is given, the electric motor drives the toothed bar through the gearbox, and the panel smoothly moves out of the gate “pocket” along the roller supports until it comes into contact with the catch traps located on the opposite side.

The design of the base of cantilever gates is somewhat different from the usual swing or folding designs. The entire device is divided into two main parts: control and receiving. The design of the first half includes a stationary part of the gate or fence, which, together with an electric drive, a columnar support and guide strips, forms a so-called “pocket” - a place where the movable panel slides in when the passage is opened. The second part is a pillar with stops-clamps. Its function is to grab and fix the panel in a stationary state.

The specific operation of the gate structure requires the manufacture of a powerful concrete base under the first half, compensating for the overturning moment that occurs when the doors open. For this, a concrete pad is made, reinforced with a steel rod, at least one and a half meters deep and about two meters long, as shown in the diagram and photo.

When pouring the mortar into the concrete base of the pillow, it is necessary to lay an embedded element made of channel No. 20 with reinforcement posts. After this, vertical load-bearing pillars can be laid out of brick or cast from concrete to the height of the future gate structure. During the construction of pillars, reinforcing metal plates are laid on the inside.

Installation of wiring and welding of cantilever gate frame

For normal operation of the gate, the design will need to be supplemented with a signaling system and a circuit of two photocells that control the position of the movable gate leaf in the closed and open state. The wiring must be laid according to the diagram shown in the photo.

A little more complicated than laying out the wiring is making a movable frame with a balancer. The frame drawing is shown below. In some cases, experts recommend making a movable panel for the gate from a corner with your own hands, and then scalding it with a thick profile of 60x40 mm. In this case, a ready-made mating plane from the corner flanges is obtained on the frame, onto which a lining made of corrugated board or sheet iron can be easily attached.

After welding, the frame is sandblasted or sanded, treated with an anti-corrosion compound and painted with automotive enamel to match the color of the gate and fence. Each panel is a welded frame made of profiled pipe measuring 60x20 mm or a corner with a shelf width of at least 50 mm. Guide pins or axles are welded on the upper and lower end surfaces of the frames, with the help of which the panels are installed in the two guide strips of the gate opening.

The panel frames are made by welding on a conductor box made of boards. In this way, it is possible to achieve maximum matching of all panels in size and shape. All that remains is to connect the panels with door canopies and install them on the guide strips.

One of the panels, most often the one on the far left or right, is made in the form of a double frame. This is done to hang gate doors, as in the photo. To do this, first, door canopies are welded on the inner surface of the profiled pipe of the frame, after which a pre-welded gate frame is installed and the location of the counter halves on the door frame is fixed.

The frames of sections or panels are most often lined with corrugated sheets or polycarbonate; the material does not fundamentally affect the operation of the gate. All that remains is to paint and install the locks.
