Step-by-step installation technology

Installation of parquet flooring using the glueless method is carried out in 4 stages.

Stage 1. Preparing the base

  2. Leveling mixtures: rough self-leveling floor or leveler on a gypsum or cement-gypsum base. These are industrial dry mixtures that require only dilution with water and application in a layer of no more than 1-5 cm. Drying time is 1-2 weeks, depending on the composition. Humidity – up to 1.5%.
  3. Sandblasting or shot blasting and polishing using appropriate units. This quick way leveling, but before starting work, all cracks and cavities must be covered with quick-drying epoxy putty or filled with cement-sand mortar.

There should be no oil stains, paint coatings or debris on the surface. All excess is cleaned off, the surface is dust-free and primed with a strengthening compound. Permissible difference – no more than 1 mm for each square meter grounds.

Stage 2. Waterproofing and installation of perimeter barriers

A waterproofing film is laid on a properly prepared base. The strips are laid with an overlap of 15-20 cm, the edges are secured with tape. Substrates used under laminate or parquet boards cannot be laid under parquet.

Manufacturers of installation kits offer a special self-adhesive rubber cord mounted around the perimeter of the room. It replaces restrictive wedges during installation and at the same time perfectly compensates for the thermal expansion of the material.

Stage 3. Parquet installation

The actual laying of parquet on a screed requires compliance with certain conditions: the temperature should be room temperature, ranging from +18°C to 25°C, and the humidity in the room should be about 45-60%.

Parquet planks must be brought into the room a few days before installation to allow the material to acclimatize.

If the base is prepared according to all the rules, then the installation itself is not difficult. By analogy with a regular floor board, parquet is laid along the stream of light, that is, with the end side facing the window.

When installing on steel brackets (Junckers, Nexus), the procedure is as follows: fasteners are driven into the back side of each plank (with the exception of slats for the last row) so that half the length of the bracket remains free. The distance between adjacent staples should be 15-40 cm.

The planks are laid in a row, with the ends coated with PVA glue. After this, the second row is mounted in such a way that the free edge of the bracket fits into the adjacent plank, forming a rigid connection with the previous one. All other parquet flooring is also fastened together. The last row is not fixed with staples, but glued to the penultimate one.

Stretch parquet is installed slightly differently. Small diameter holes (less than 1 cm) are drilled in each plank at equal distances. On the base, the planks are assembled into a central row, from which the rest of the fabric will go. Each tenon of the tile is inserted into the groove of the previous one with an offset of 1/4 or ½ of the length, that is, the holes in the body of the parquet flooring must coincide. Protruding parts are cut off.

After the floor is assembled, plastic fastening cords are stretched from wall to wall. They are elastic, so they easily compensate for seasonal changes in the geometry of the floor covering.

Next, on one side, a fixing steel plug with a cap is put on the edge of the string and recessed into the mounting hole. Clamping mechanism the other end of the cord is pulled tight and secured with the same plug.

Stage 4. Sanding and sanding parquet floors

Step-by-step technology for installing parquet on a finished screed

Preparing the base

Laying parquet boards

Before laying the plywood sheets, the concrete is treated with a thin layer of acrylic primer. In order to lay the plywood base as firmly and accurately as possible, the consistency of the glue should correspond to thick sour cream. It is applied to the concrete with a brush and rubbed with a wide steel spatula.

After this, you can lay down sheets of lining material. The procedure is quite labor-intensive, but there is no need to rush. As in the case of leveling a concrete surface under a parquet board, when laying plywood you should try to get the most even horizontal surface possible. Sheets are stacked chessboard or in a “running start”, the seams are sealed with sealant on acrylic base. After about two days, the seams and the plane of the lining layer are checked with a horizontal level and sanded with a belt sander.

Installation of adhesive-based parquet boards

If the concrete base has been leveled to the required surface quality, then it makes sense to lay the parquet board directly on the concrete using glue. With this solution, it will be possible to lay the package faster and better than when using a wooden backing.

For gluing parquet, two types of glue are used - acrylic resin and two-component polyurethane based. Both glue options allow you to lay parquet with high quality adhesion, so it is not necessary to buy the most expensive brands of glue. Previously, parquet and linoleum were laid on a concrete floor using bitumen-styrene mastic, used for waterproofing roofing coverings. The quality and durability of this option were quite high.

Before laying the first two rows, restrictive wedges are installed along the wall, providing a gap of 10-12 mm between the first row and the vertical surface. The glue dries quickly, so it is prepared in small portions and, if possible, used immediately. The adhesive layer is applied with a notched trowel, as in the photo, only on an area the size of a single board, after which the first parquet flooring is laid out with a spike against the wall. In addition to the supporting surface, the glue must be placed in the lock so that the joints between the parquet boards are also glued.

Each subsequent row must be trimmed and laid so that the end seam between the boards is shifted by 1/3 of the length relative to the previous row. Each board must be correctly connected to the previous row, and most importantly, it must be carefully aligned in a horizontal plane and tacked.

After installation, excess glue is removed and the seams are sealed with acrylic sealant. After 4-5 days you can start finishing parquet

Free laying parquet

Preparatory stage

Plywood flooring

If you decide not to take risks and lay a stabilizing plywood layer on the screed, which will protect the parquet from swelling and damage, do the following:

  • Thick plywood sheets (the thickness should be 2/3 of the thickness of the parquet) are sawn into squares (40 × 40 or 70 × 70).
  • The screed is treated with a primer.
  • Special glue is applied to the surface.
  • After such processing, the plywood squares are laid, and it is done with an offset, and gaps of 3 mm are left between the sheets.
  • The gap between the laid plywood and the wall should be approximately 1 cm. Upon completion of the work, it must be filled with sealant.
  • Before installing the parquet, the plywood is sanded to eliminate possible differences.

Laying parquet planks

The parquet planks are brought into the room where the work will be carried out several days before it begins for the purpose of acclimatization.

With proper preparation of the base, laying parquet on a screed should not cause any difficulties. This process must begin from the end side towards the window.

Installation of parquet with brackets

If we lay planks on a screed using steel brackets, then the procedure is approximately as follows:

  • To the wrong side of each plank, with the exception of the last row, at a distance of 15–40 cm from each other, we stuff special staples, which can be purchased at hardware stores. This manipulation is performed in such a way that half the length of the staple remains free.
  • We coat the ends of the parquet planks with adhesive (you can use PVA) and lay them in a row.
  • The second row is installed in such a way that the remaining free edge of the bracket fits securely into the adjacent plank.

  • The final row of planks is glued to the previous one without using staples.

Tension parquet

  • A hole 1 cm in diameter is drilled in each plank.

  • The tenons of the parquet planks are mounted in grooves offset by a quarter or half the length, so the holes made in the body of the parquet flooring must coincide.

When using plywood flooring laid on a screed, the planks are attached to it using parquet glue applied with a special spatula. Next, it is recommended to shoot the parquet flooring along the edge - several pins or nails per element. This will not only make the fastening more reliable, but will also allow you to squeeze out excess glue and ensure a more uniform fit of the planks.

Final processing of parquet

After installation, the floor covering must undergo a rough sanding procedure. Before it, all minor defects, cracks and chips are covered with putty. Then the base is refined using fine-grained grinding machine attachments.
