IMPORTANT! Polypropylene pipes, (the characteristics of experts confirm this), are classified as environmentally friendly substances, they are completely safe for technological use.

Information about raw materials

The technical characteristics of polypropylene are directly dependent on the feedstock, or rather on its quality and properties.

Production of fittings and pipes reinforced with aluminum for heating and plumbing pn10, pn16, pn20 and pn25

Polypropylene was obtained by Frank Gresham. Later, the basis was improved, and modifications appeared. Depending on the type of plastic, pipes are divided into the following types:

  1. The first is propylene homopolymer (PPH);
  2. The second is polypropylene copolymers (PPC);
  3. The third is a static copolymer of polypropylene with ethylene (PPRC).

Immediately, special attention should be paid to type 3. It stands out for its resistance to high temperature. The invention of this substance was a very big “breakthrough” in the field of plastics manufacturing.

Products marked PN10, PN16 and PN20 for heating and plumbing

And PN25 also includes a layer of aluminum I. The species labeled PN16 has become an intermediate option. This is a universal material, but it is used very rarely.

PN25 aluminum reinforced for plumbing and heating

  • These are pipe-rolling products with a thin wall, which are used to supply cold water(up to +20 degrees). Specifications polypropylene pipe PN10 allows it to be used for “warm floors” (up to +45C), withstands pressure of 1 MPa.

Diameter: external volumes from 20 to 110 mm, and external indicators from 16.2 to 90 mm. The wall thickness of PN10 is from 2 to 10 mm.

  • The technical characteristics of the PN20 polypropylene pipe became the reason to call it universal option, used in hot water supply lines (up to a temperature of +80 degrees and a pressure of up to 2 MPa). Average internal diameters range from 10.6 to 73.2 mm. External indicators range from 16 to 110 mm. The wall thickness of PN20 is from 16 to 18.4 mm.
  • This is a polypropylene pipe reinforced with aluminum, the characteristics of PN25 allow them to be used for central heating networks with temperatures up to +95 degrees, and for supply hot water. The nominal pressure value is 2.5 MPa.

The aluminum layer is located next to the outer side. There is a perforation on the foil, because of it the polypropylene pipe PN25 technical characteristics, which are allowed not to apply glue for connection, increases its stability.

They are used with the following diameter sizes: internal 13.2 - 50 mm, external - 21.2-77.9 mm. The wall thickness of PN25 varies from 4 to 13.3 mm.

Use of aluminum layer. But this also has its downsides. Such materials are difficult to install and connect with fittings; in this case, you will have to use a trimmer.

Most recently, manufacturers have provided a new product that includes three layers. The middle layer is a mixture of polypropylene and fiberglass. The wall thickness of this new material was left the same.

Polypropylene reinforced pipe, its technical characteristics indicate that they have a low expansion rate (0.009 mm/m.T).

It should be added to this that fiberglass is very durable, this indicator is twice as strong as steel. Such products are very convenient to install.

IMPORTANT! All types polypropylene products There are white, light green, gray and black shades. Color does not affect their properties. Only black ones are more protected from ultraviolet radiation.

Advantages of polypropylene pipe products

The most important advantage is their long period of use, this is the most important characteristic polypropylene.

IMPORTANT! Short increases in temperature and pressure have almost no effect on the service life of these materials.

These materials also have the following advantages:

  1. The pipeline for water supply from this type of pipe product fully meets all norms and sanitary standards.
  2. No rust or other deposits will appear inside the plumbing or heating system. In this regard, throughout the entire period of use they do not change their internal diameter.
  3. PPR pipes are resistant to temperature changes and pressure surges.
  4. Low thermal conductivity prevents the formation of condensation.
  5. High sound insulation properties eliminate noise from the operation of the main line.
  6. If we compare with metal analogues, for installation of this material takes much less time. Welding technologies make it possible to connect polypropylene structures quickly and do this work very efficiently.
  7. Low weight facilitates transportation. It also reduces the number of people used for work.
  8. They do not require additional maintenance and do not need to be painted.

Application of fittings

Manufacturers have developed polypropylene pipes and fittings, the technical characteristics of which make it possible to equip any engineering structure. This makes it possible to do without installation metal parts.

Video 2 - all about fittings

And couplings and fittings with chrome and brass inserts allow you to connect polypropylene with metal pipes, and also allow you to connect them to any plumbing equipment.

  • Before work, you should inspect the inside of the product for clogging.
  • All workpieces should be carefully checked to ensure that a damaged pipe is not put into operation.
  • It is recommended to carry out work at a temperature not lower than +5 degrees. With more low rates temperatures, high-quality joints are difficult to obtain.
  • To produce bending without thermal influence, the temperature environment should be at least +15 degrees. When performing such actions, you must maintain a minimum bend radius. For a 16-32 mm workpiece, these figures are equal to eight diameters.
  • Using welding, a homogeneous seam is obtained, which ensures a high-quality connection. For such pipe blanks, three types of welding are used: butt welding, polyfusion welding, and electrical fittings.
  • If necessary for the situation, then they hire threaded fittings. And to strengthen the density, Teflon tape or seals are laid.
  • When laying polypropylene pipes for water supply (the technical characteristics of which provide for expansion from heat), the following types of fastening are used: fixed and movable supports. The first option is acceptable for short workpieces, otherwise the pipes will burst when heated. The second option creates compensatory movement of the line (stretching and compression). With it, the highway itself does not move from the axis.
  • When laying, you must maintain a slope of 0.5%.
  • When fastening water-folding equipment, rotational stresses and elbows attached to the wall must be avoided. They are advised to be mounted on rigid plates, which create a stationary state.

ADVICE. It is not recommended to make carvings on plastic blanks yourself. . If this is not done, then the proper tightness of the connection of pipe products and plumbing fixtures no one can guarantee.

The ideal price-quality ratio is polypropylene pipes; the technical characteristics of this material fully confirm this, which is why they are very popular and significantly superior to steel communications.

In construction synthetic materials successfully replace metal: they are on average cheaper, more durable (since they are not subject to corrosion), easier to install and lighter. Let's look at what polypropylene pipes are - technical characteristics, types, application features.

There are three types of polypropylene for pipes:

  • homopolymer (PPH);
  • copolymers (PPV);
  • static copolymer with ethylene (PPRC), also known as random copolymer. Ethylene provides high thermal stability. Polypropylene pipes and fittings for heating of this type can withstand temperatures up to 110 ºC for a short time. They are used most often.

The physical and mechanical characteristics of PPR are regulated by existing standards:

  • in accordance with GOST 21553, the melting point of the material is + 149 ºC;
  • according to GOST 15139, PPR density is 0.9 grams per cubic centimeter;
  • according to 11262, tensile strength (yield strength) is 24-25 N/sq.mm, elongation when it is reached is 50%:
  • tensile strength – 34-35;
  • according to 15173 coefficient of thermal expansion – 0.15 mm per mms;
  • to 23630 specific heat– 2 kJ per kgf (at +20 ºC);
  • according to DIN (German standard) - thermal conductivity 0.24 watts per m/s (at +20 ºC).

The advantages of PPR pipes include:

  • non-susceptibility to corrosion and rotting, high durability (for heating and hot water pipes - 50 years, for cold water supply - 100);
  • sediment does not collect on the walls, which often “overgrows” metal pipes. Over time, the diameter of the internal channel does not change;
  • the cost is lower than that of metal products;
  • the weight is on average 9 times less than that of metal ones of the same section;
  • simple and inexpensive repair. Polypropylene does not need to be painted regularly; replacement of damaged components is carried out without expensive equipment;
  • sections of pipes are connected to each other by welding (the so-called “iron” for polypropylene). The connections are permanent and extremely reliable. Quantity threaded connections(through which leaks most often occur) in the system is minimized;
  • plastic has low thermal conductivity: heat loss through the walls and cluster is minimized;
  • sound insulation (as opposed to sound-conducting metal pipes);
  • due to the plasticity of the material, the pipes do not burst when the coolant freezes in cold weather;
  • high chemical resistance;
  • environmental cleanliness;
  • non-susceptibility to fungal infections;
  • the material is supplied in coils that are convenient to transport.

The colors of polypropylene pipes of all types are gray, white, green and black. For blacks better protection from ultraviolet rays, otherwise color does not affect the characteristics of polypropylene pipes and fittings for water supply or other systems.

Types of fittings

A fitting for polypropylene pipes is a connecting element also made of polypropylene. May have a nickel-plated brass pressed insert with thread. The following connecting parts are used for the installation of pipelines:

  • coupling - a hollow element similar to a miniature barrel for welding pipes of the same cross-section. Pipes are inserted from both sides;
  • adapter - a similar element, but for connecting pipes with different diameters. There are also adapters for connecting plastic pipes with metal pipes, with threads at one end;
  • the corner is used to turn the highway: this way you can avoid unnecessary bending. There are angles at 45 and 90 degrees, as well as those combined with adapters - with different cross-sections of inlet holes, with metal threads on one side;
  • tees and crosses are used to connect more than two pipes. The angles and configuration are different, there are parts with and without threads;
  • bypasses - parts for bypassing structural elements (for example, other pipes). Allows you to avoid unnecessary bending of polypropylene. Shapes and sizes vary;
  • compensators. They exist in finished form, but if necessary, can be assembled from fragments of pipes and corners;
  • – dismountable fitting, coupling with union nut. In those areas that will be periodically dismantled (to clean the unit, install a water meter, etc.), it is preferable to install an American one.

In addition to connecting parts, the pipelines use faucets and valves made of polypropylene, plugs (to cover blind end sections), fasteners and clamps for mounting on walls.

Connection Features

Three types of welding are used to connect polypropylene pipe sections:

  • end-to-end;
  • polyfuse (bell-shaped);
  • using electrical fittings.

When connecting to metal pipes, fittings with threaded inserts are used. Teflon tape and other sealants are used to seal joints.

Important: You cannot cut threads on factory products yourself. For installation, you should use fittings and pipes of the same brand; this is the only way to guarantee the quality of the finished system.

Several basic rules for installing a sub-pipeline:

  1. Before starting work, you need to carefully inspect the material to avoid damage and contamination.
  2. Installation should be carried out at a positive temperature of 5 degrees, if necessary, bend pipes - from 15.
  3. The maximum bending radius depends on the size of the pipes. For example, for 1.6-3.2 cm - 8 diameters.
  4. Fastening is carried out taking into account thermal expansion. When heated, the pipe becomes deformed and may burst. Installation on a fixed support is only permitted for a short distance. In all other cases, a movable one is used, allowing for the possibility of compensatory displacement without deviation from the axis of the pipeline.
  5. The required slope of the pipe is from 0.5 percent towards draining the coolant or water using a drain tap.
  6. Wall bends are mounted on a rigid plate to eliminate torsional stress.

Popular manufacturers

Brands of pipes and fittings popular today on the Russian market:

  1. Valtec (Italy) presents three categories of polypropylene pipes: thin-walled, foil-reinforced (99.4% aluminum), fiberglass-reinforced. Material – PP-R 100. Layers are glued adhesives Japanese and American production, providing a layer strength of 70 N per 10 mm (norm - 15). During the welding process, a bead of straightened plastic does not form. A special feature of the fittings is a conical socket. Parts with metal threads are octagonal (due to their shape, they can be worked with standard keys).
  2. Banninger (Germany). The raw material is chemically neutral polypropylene random copolymer. The products can also be used to supply drinking water. The main disadvantage of the brand is the high price.
  3. Wavin Ecoplastic (Czech Republic). The pipes can withstand loads of up to 20 atm. Types of heating pipes: Stabi - foil reinforced, Fiber, Basalt+ - basalt fiber. The remaining models are suitable for cold water supply.
  4. Kalde (Türkiye). Types: pure polypropylene – PN10 and 16; glass fiber reinforced – PN16; superpipe – reinforced with perforated aluminum foil. The latter type does not require stripping and facing when welding. Service life at temperatures up to 70 degrees is 50 years.
  5. Tebo (Türkiye). The raw material is a durable polymer of the new generation Random Copolymer (PPR of the third type). Products have certificates for compliance with DIN, GOST, TSE standards. Section sizes are from 2 to 16 cm, types of pipes are PN10, 20 and 25. The foil in PN25 is non-perforated; stripping is required during welding.
  6. SPK (Türkiye). Polypropylene pipes are on average half cheaper than European brands, while maintaining High Quality. Manufactured from Dutch raw materials using German equipment. Excellent characteristics: the products can also be used in difficult operating conditions (for example, in Siberia).

Polypropylene pipes are a modern alternative to metal pipes. They are used for transporting cold and hot water, for internal and external sewerage, in heating systems, underfloor heating and other areas.

A new type of polypropylene (“random copolymer”, marked “PP-R”) - plastic, lightweight and durable material, which consists of a mixture of polypropylene and ethylene.

The presented material is non-toxic, harmless to humans and the environment. It also does not affect the quality of transported water.

Advantages of polypropylene pipes

Long service life. Buying these pipes is beneficial from the point of view of its durability. The service life of heating systems is at least 50 years, cold water supply is more than 100 years.
Noise absorption. At a low cost of pipes, they have high level sound absorption. Due to the fact that polypropylene dampens noise well, the transportation of water and coolants is as quiet as possible.
Resistance to changes. Random copolymer is resistant to deposits of hardness salts, aggressive substances (acids and alkalis), corrosion, pressure changes, and temperature. This quality makes the pipes resistant to destruction and does not allow them to shrink internal diameter when used in heating and water supply systems.
Loyal cost. The price of polypropylene pipes is much more pleasant compared to its competitors. At the same time, the low weight allows for additional savings. financial resources during transportation and installation processes.
Speed of installation. Polypropylene pipes and fittings (bends, tees, etc.) allow you to create pipeline systems of varying complexity. At the same time, the features of socket welding ensure their rapid installation by just a few installers.

Polypropylene (PP - according to Russian, RR - according to international classification) pipes are stiffer than metal plastic pipes, they are assembled by diffusion welding using fittings: angles, tees, etc. Polypropylene pipelines use permanent connections, the pipeline is assembled using welded fittings once and for all. Unlike a metal-plastic pipe, which is essentially thin aluminum pipe Coated inside and outside with a protective layer of plastic, the polypropylene pipe is completely plastic. The plastic used to make pipes also varies. Unlike polypropylene pipes, in most metal-plastic pipes polyethylene is used.

Due to the special properties of materials piping system made of polypropylene can be used in: water supply to houses; connecting boilers; water distribution; water risers; distribution across floors (regular or at each sampling point with individual connection); connecting the pipeline to existing water supply networks mounted from metal pipes; heating networks; connection to the boiler installation; distribution devices; heating risers; connecting metal radiators.

The long service life of the standard polypropylene pipe allows it to be used for all known species laying of pipelines: open laying, laying on the wall, hidden laying. For internal systems For hot water supply and heating, the most heat-resistant type of polypropylene is used - random copolymer (labeled as PP type 3 or PP Typ 3). Pipelines made of this material, depending on the operating pressure, can serve for a long time with liquid temperatures up to 95°C. The estimated duration of use of the pipeline is more than 50 years, and in cold water supply pipelines it is even longer - from 50 to 100 years. Temperatures of the order of 100°C resulting from short-term faults do not affect negative influence for the service life of the pipeline.

All parts of the pipeline that are in contact with drinking water, comply with current Russian standards. The suitability of polypropylene for work in contact with liquid food products is confirmed by national certificates of Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Spain, and the USA.

Pipes (Fig. 20) are divided into three categories:

  • PN 10 - thin-walled version, for cold water supply (up to +20°C) and heated floors (up to +45°C), nominal operating pressure 1 MPa (10.2 kg/cm²);
  • PN 20 - universal pipe, used for hot water supply (temperature up to +80°C), nominal pressure 2 MPa (20.4 kg/cm²);
  • PN 25 - reinforced with aluminum foil, for hot water supply and central heating(up to +95°C), nominal pressure 2.5 MPa (25.49 kg/cm²).

Polypropylene pipe PN 16 - for cold and hot water supply (up to +60°C), nominal operating pressure 1.6 MPa (16.32 kg/cm²), could be fourth on the list of categories of these pipes, but it is rare.

Unlike metal-plastic pipes, the aluminum layer in PN 25 pipes is closer to outside and, most often, there is perforation on it, which makes it possible not to use glue to fasten the layers of the pipe. The connection of the outer and inner layers of polypropylene to each other or to the aluminum layer occurs through perforated holes, which, in turn, can be through or surface from different manufacturers. The direct connection of polypropylene with aluminum significantly increases the stability and strength of the pipes. PN 25 pipes are designed for special use- mainly in heating pipelines, as well as in hot water supply pipelines, but can also be used for cold water supply systems. For example, this is one of the most “favorite” pipes among domestic plumbers; it is installed on all types of wiring.

Polypropylene pipes come in gray, white, black and green. Color other than black does not mean any restrictions on the use of pipes. The black color of the pipe indicates that it is most protected from ultraviolet radiation.

It should also be noted that the service life of polypropylene pipes declared by the manufacturer is 50 years, which implies that the pipeline will be operated at normal pressure and normal temperature. That is, pipes can withstand long-term significant pressures, but the temperature of the transported liquid must be low, or, conversely, the temperature of the liquid can be very high, but the pressure must be low. At high blood pressure and high temperatures, the service life of the pipe is sharply reduced and can reach up to 1–5 years. To determine the service life of pipes operating in extreme conditions, there is a special table. We will not present it, since at the household level such long-term loads do not occur in household pipelines, but short-term ones emergency situations associated with a sharp rise in pressure or a sharp jump in the temperature of the transported liquid, the pipe will withstand.

For polypropylene pipelines, we produce all types of fittings necessary for the device engineering communications, which makes it possible to avoid including metal parts in the pipe system and to perform optimal installation of the pipeline. They also allow you to connect a polypropylene pipeline to a metal one. The pipes are environmentally friendly and are successfully used in cold and hot water supply and heating pipelines. Thanks to fittings with chrome and brass inserts, pipes can be easily combined with existing steel fittings and plumbing fixtures.

Coupling with internal
Polypropylene pipes are one of the types of plastic pipes. The polypropylene material used for their manufacture is produced by polymerization with the participation of catalysts made of metal complex materials. The pipes produced by the enterprises are manufactured mainly of two types: for a pressure of 10 bar - this pipes PN 10(designation PPR PN10 is allowed), and for a pressure of 20 bar - polypropylene pipes PN 20 (PPR PN 20).

Pipes for a pressure of 10 bar have thinner walls, and, therefore, their price is lower. They are used for not very loaded systems, with low pressure. Although tests show that PN10 pipes able to withstand short-term pressure of 30 bar. The pipes are connected to each other using welding (sometimes this process is called soldering) using a special apparatus. In this case, the metal mandrels supplied with the device are heated to a temperature of about 300 degrees, a PPR PN10 pipe and a polypropylene fitting are inserted into these mandrels, softened and then connected, after which, after some time, when the material has cooled, a welded joint is obtained. Such a connection, if made without violating technology, is not inferior in strength to an all-propylene structure. They are mainly used for cold water supply. Since under the influence of hot water these pipes, due to their thin walls, will bend. For hot water supply, PN20 pipes are used, mostly reinforced. The property of polypropylene pipes, including PN10 pipes, to withstand accidental freezing of water in them during some kind of accident, has made them indispensable when carrying out water supply work in places where such a situation is possible. After the accident is eliminated, the pipes can continue to operate without any additional restoration work. The main advantages of polypropylene pipes are as follows. The low weight, especially of thin-walled PN 10 products, compared to metal pipes, makes installation easier and saves on delivery of products to the site. Installation is also simplified due to the fairly simple and quick connection of such a polypropylene structure with fittings using a simple electrical device that is accessible to every developer. A very smooth inner surface, similar in its characteristics to the most “slippery” material, fluoroplastic, does not allow the internal walls of the PN10 pipe to become overgrown with various mineral and other deposits. A long service life, estimated in tens of years, reduces the number of regulatory and repair work on a pipeline made of polypropylene pipes. Due to the great flexibility of such products (especially for small-diameter pipes), laying a network from them is characterized by a significantly smaller number of connecting fittings, since many turns of the pipeline during its installation can be performed without the use of angles. Our company offers PN10 polypropylene pipes with a diameter of 20 to 110 millimeters and a length of 4 m from its warehouse in Moscow.
