Homemade tube for fishing rods from a plastic pipe. DIY spinning tube - several practical options Case for fishing rods made from a sewer pipe

I think the idea of making a fishing tube with your own hands has occurred to, if not every second person, then certainly two out of three fishing enthusiasts. It looks simple: I bought a pipe, closed the bottom and covered it with fabric. Still, making a good thing with your own hands is priceless; for everything else there is Mastercard. In reality, everything turned out to be a little more complicated.

However, making a simple version of a tube for carrying fishing rods while fishing is really elementary and takes no more than one evening. The tube will perfectly fulfill its direct duties and will cost less than a pack of cigarettes.

But if you do it in such a way that not only the fishing rods reach the fishing spot safely, but also the eyes are happy, you will have to put a lot of effort into it. I even involved my wife in some of the work. Most of the tube cover was made by her. So if you don’t know which side to approach the sewing machine from, limit yourself to the first option or ask my wife (just kidding).

But first things first. To make a simple version of a fishing tube, you need a polypropylene sewer pipe with a diameter of 110 millimeters, two plugs and a coupling. We cut off the beads from sealing rubber bands from pipe and coupling (photo 2). For work I used a Dremel with two attachments (photo 3).

Next, we glue plugs from one end of the coupling and from the wide end of the pipe. (photos 4 and 5). We shorten the structure to the right size, and that’s it – the tube is ready. The coupling is used as a cover (photo 6, A). Here's a simple option. Cheap and cheerful.

To cover a fishing tube with fabric, you need it to have a constant diameter along its entire length, that is, have the shape of a cylinder (photo 6, B). A simple plug will do as a cover. (photo 7), but you will have to tinker with the bottom of the tube. The whole process is schematically depicted in photo 8.

I cut off the walls of the plug, taped it to a piece of pipe, which I also covered with tape from the inside. In the resulting container, I covered the walls at the bottom with a small layer of epoxy-soaked bandages (you can use fiberglass). After the resin had dried, I cut the pipe that acted as a cliche, and glued the resulting plug with walls made of bandages into the bottom of the tube (photo 9). She stood up like a glove. The protruding base was cut off with a Dremel.

There's just a little bit left to do: just sew a cover for the tube. Since the diameter of the pipe is 110 millimeters, multiplying it by the number π, that is, 3.14, we get the width of the piece of fabric 345.5 millimeters (I took 346 millimeters taking into account the thickness of the seam - it turned out perfect). We leave a margin of 1-2 centimeters for the longitudinal seam and, of course, a margin along the length. Blanks for the ends are made with a diameter the size of the plug plus 1 centimeter for the seam. A piece of fabric 150x50 centimeters was enough for me.

I cut out a circle of foam rubber on the bottom and lid of the tube so that the rods would not hit the hard polypropylene when immersed in the tube and during transport for fishing.

First, two slings with semicircular rings are sewn transversely onto the main workpiece for subsequent fastening of the belt (photo 10). All parts are basted with white threads so that they do not unravel when stitching, then the threads are removed. After the slings, the bottom is sewn in, then a zipper 30 centimeters long (photo 11). After this, a longitudinal seam is made along the entire length of the fabric and an end element is sewn in at the lid.

All this happened with control fittings on the tube (photo 12), the cover fit very hard, but in the end it sat down just like it was there. The final touch is a webbing strap (photo 13).

The result is a really beautiful and reliable fishing tube, which can easily accommodate three two-parters. A neighbor, a fishing enthusiast, has already asked him to make the same one. But I think this homemade fishing tube will be the last, I don’t want to strain my wife again. Next time I'll better buy store bought. Perhaps my experience will be useful to someone. Thank you for your attention!

After looking through the offers online, I decided to go with an inexpensive tube and almost ordered it, but it’s better to see it once. And I went to look. My disappointment knew no bounds. Even the smallest tubes were simply huge, heavy and uncomfortable. I understood that I would simply be blown off the saddle, along with my tube and backpack. That's all fishing.

At first I thought of strengthening the factory case by inserting cut plastic bottles and sewing on the strap. But the safety was conditional, there was no rigidity and, again, windage. And then I came across a plastic pipe with a diameter of 50 mm left over from the repair, which had been lying on the balcony for a long time. This turned out to be the perfect solution.

Now I’ll tell you in order what you will need to make a tube of the size you need:

  • Plastic pipe,
  • durable fabric,
  • braid,
  • threads with a needle,
  • two rings,
  • two carabiners and a cord.
  • And, of course, your hands.

Use a hacksaw to cut the pipe to the size you need. You can do it by eye using a spinning rod, or you can measure it with a meter first. Sand the ends of the pipe with sandpaper or a file to avoid scratching your fingers later.

Measure the diameter of the pipe, I did this with a cord, since there was no sewing meter, add one centimeter to the resulting size for the seam and get the width.

To the already familiar length of the spinning rod, we also add a centimeter on each side, maybe two, in case the fabric shrinks. Using the finished dimensions of length and width, we make a pattern with chalk, and then cut it out with scissors.

On the resulting blank we determine the place for the handle, and also mark it with chalk.

We sew the braid to the required places; if there is none, you can use the fabric from which you are making the cover. Having sewn one side of the braid, insert the ring and sew on the other. Do the same with the second ring.

Then we bend one side of your workpiece by one centimeter with inside and iron it well,

The lace will be inserted here, but first sew this area with thread so that you can thread the lace.

All that remains is to attach all the sides, again from the inside out, and stitch along the entire plane, you can do it yourself with a needle,

You can use a sewing machine.

Of course, you don’t sew the side with the lace. When you're done, turn it inside out and get a finished case.

You insert a pre-prepared plastic pipe into it.

The tube does not have a lid; at first I used shoe polish. Then he threw them away as unnecessary. The point is that I insert the tube into the spinning rod in the factory case, because of this it does not dangle. And I cut the pipe with a margin, so the tip of the spinning rod simply does not reach the fabric.

Since I carry the tube behind my back, it turns out that the handle stands vertically on the fabric and the tip is next to it, so the lid is an extra element, the main thing is that the spinning rod “fits” into the tube with a slight tension.

The tube is almost ready, all that remains is to make a belt for it. I took it off an old bag. If you don’t have the habit of leaving unnecessary things, then you can make a belt yourself. Take the braid of the desired size, sew carabiners to it and fasten it to the rings.

Now your DIY spinning tube is ready

Now I actively use this one and don’t experience any problems with transportation or safety of the spinning rod.

And you won't have to worry about its contents. You won't spend a lot of money or time on it. And most importantly, it will be the right size, and you won’t have to carry air.

Happy fishing!

Alexey Churakov - Specially for, Kyiv, Ukraine

Professional fishermen have a whole arsenal of fishing equipment. We are talking not only about gear, but also about all kinds of accessories for storing and transporting precious devices. Firstly, they promote order and quick access to certain items, and secondly, they ensure the safety of equipment. This is of no small importance given the high cost of fishing products. Anyone who has ever experienced unexpected damage to gear will make every effort to prevent this from happening in the future. That’s why some people buy a case for a fishing rod, while others make a spinning rod tube with their own hands. The main thing is to achieve the goal and protect your favorite gear.

To be prepared for the next fishing season, you need to properly complete the current one, namely, put in order and put away all the parts of the fishing equipment. These procedures will allow you to maintain the quality of the products, as well as be in full uniform for the long-awaited moment of the next fishing. Before placing the gear in a case for long-term storage, you should prepare it for this:

  1. All parts must be dried and cleaned. Depending on the degree of contamination, apply warm water, detergent or a dry brush. Even slight dust or grains of sand can play a cruel joke on the rod and joints during the first fishing.
  2. The fishing line must not be stored under tension. It needs to be freed from hooks, weights, floats, removed from the reel, dried, and then loosely wound on a pre-prepared foam reel or reel.
  3. Make a thorough visual inspection of the spinning rods. If defects are detected, they must be corrected immediately.

Advice! Noticed cracks and chips on the fishing rod must be repaired before the gear is sent to wait for the next season. For this purpose, coatings with varnish and glue are used.

Only after carrying out these simple procedures do you need to remove the spinning rods to a certain place.

Where to store spinning rods

It’s great when you have the opportunity to allocate a separate storage room fishing accessories. Do not forget that the environment should be cool and dry. Therefore, not every garage or balcony will provide favorable conditions. It is ideal to allocate a place for fishing rods in the house. A closet or closet works well. Many people believe that fishing rods should be stored vertically on special racks. Others refute this opinion, arguing that this causes fishing rods to become deformed.

Attention! Deformation of fishing rods only affects inexpensive products. High-quality, especially professional, gear looks forward to the next season in a standing position.

An alternative option for placing gear is tubes and covers for spinning rods. They have additional benefits:

  • Compactly accommodates all gear;
  • closed shape prevents dust contamination;
  • do not require a special place, they can be placed on a shelf, under the bed, in the pantry;
  • provide protection during transportation;
  • no need to collect fishing rods, search by different places, they are packed together - I took the case and went.

The modern market offers large selection similar products. If you don’t want to incur additional costs, you can make a rod tube with your own hands.

Types of cases for spinning rods

Transporting gear without proper protection is undesirable; it is too vulnerable. Moreover, this applies to both movement by car and public transport. For the safe delivery of fishing equipment to the reservoir and back, a variety of covers are used. These products can be divided into 3 types:

Almost all models are equipped with a zipper, handles, shoulder straps, as well as pockets in which you can store removable parts, consumables. Many of them are designed for several fishing rods, which is very convenient. There are cases in which a spinning rod with a reel can be freely placed.

Tips for making your own tackle case

The first thing that is necessary is a clear definition of the desired type of cover. Here fishermen often start from:

  • purpose of the case – storage, transportation, or all together;
  • the way they get to the reservoir (on foot, by bicycle, by car, by public transport);
  • type of gear placed.

Having answered these questions, it becomes clear what dimensions are optimal and acceptable - weight, size, shape. It is believed that it is worth making cases designed specifically for carp, spinning, plug and other equipment. However, most often they are universal. Thus, a tube for feeder gear is quite suitable for storing spinning gear.

General rules when developing a case model

You should not save when choosing a material; it should be:

  • durable;
  • moisture resistant;
  • wear-resistant.

Making a case yourself makes it possible to make it to the required size; usually the length is not less than a meter. And in the case of a long rod, a homemade spinning tube can reach more than 2 meters. Its diameter should be such that your equipment fits. This is especially necessary for owners of models with large access rings on high legs to take into account.

Making your own fishing tackle case

Fabric cover

Sewing a fabric cover required sizes you can order it from a studio, or it can be done by your wife, a friend who knows how to use sewing machine. There's nothing complicated about it. On the outside, it can be equipped with elongated pockets in which you can place stands, an umbrella, shore platforms, and a landing net. The main thing is to choose the optimal number of compartments; you shouldn’t overdo it with them.

Advice! The cover inside can be equipped with plastic tubes that will protect the rods from internal and external mechanical damage.

Hard tube

How to make a spinning rod tube? Quite simple. The necessary spare parts can be easily found at any hardware store. Plastic sewer pipes or thick cardboard tubes are quite suitable for the housing. This is where the plugs are selected required diameter, which will serve as lids for the tube. In order to prevent longitudinal impacts inside the housing, it is worthwhile to equip the covers on the inside with soft material. Foam rubber or a thick layer of felt is perfect.

Photo 2. Plastic sewer pipe - the base of the tube.

The outside of the case can be lined with a fabric cover and equipped with handles and shoulder straps for convenience. A do-it-yourself tube for winter fishing rods, as well as for feeders, is made according to a similar principle.

Photo 3. Tube in a case.

Advice! With normal heating, the plastic can easily be shaped into an oval shape, which will allow you to place a spinning rod inside without removing the reel. Such a tube will be more convenient to use and compact.

It doesn’t matter whether you purchase a ready-made case or create it yourself, the main thing is that it fulfills its function of protecting and organized storage fishing gear.

How to make a rod tube with your own hands?

Spinning rods, feeders and donks are conveniently transported in hard tubes. They definitely won't break or get scratched. In fishing stores you can buy tubes for one or more rods. Some anglers make these accessories themselves. The products are much cheaper and just as reliable and convenient as branded tubes. In this article we will learn how to make tubes from plastic water pipes and what materials and tools are needed for such work.

Necessary materials and tools for making a tube

We need a plastic water pipe. Depending on the number of rods, we select the diameter of the pipe. For example, if you use one or two light spinning rods when fishing, then you will need a pipe with a diameter of 70 or 90 mm. If you fish with several heavy class feeders or donks, then it is better to use a tube with a width of 110 mm. The following pipes are sold in construction stores:

At home, you figure out what tube diameter you need and go to the store to buy such pipes. Please note that there should be a thickening at the end of the pipe. This is exactly what we need. It will be convenient to put plugs on them later.

Typically the pipe length is 2 meters. We will buy a 2-meter section, two plugs and couplings at a construction or plumbing store. The coupling looks like this:

You will need the following plugs:

The tools we need are a drill with drill bits. To carry the tube we need a strap with snap hooks of this type:

We will attach it to the tube. It is better to use an adjustable strap that changes length. We will also use two of these bolts with matching nuts and eyes:

We also need moment or other glue for gluing plastic parts, hacksaw, marker.

Work order

First, we decide on the length of the rods. To do this, we take all the fishing rods that we are going to transport in it and select the one with the longest elbow. Add 5 - 8 cm to it and get the length of the tube. After this, we put a plug on one end of the pipe and measure the required distance with a tape measure.

We mark with a marker the place where we will cut off part of the pipe. Usually they make tubes with a length of 110 to 130 cm. To get an even section, take a tape measure and bend it around the entire diameter of the pipe. Next, we draw a marker along the tape and get a straight line. We will use it to cut with a hacksaw.

After cutting the pipe, we should have a smooth neck:

It should be thoroughly cleaned on the sides and inside so that the coupling can be put on it. After cleaning, take the coupling and put it on the pipe. It must fit the diameter of the pipe and be put on with force:

After this, we put plugs on the ends of the pipe. We will put one on glue, and the second will be free to take off and put on. One plug will be the bottom of the tube, and the second will be its lid. Before gluing, we clean the inner surface of the pipe and outside sandpaper plugs. This way we will ensure good adhesion of the bonded surfaces.

Before gluing, secure the strap. To do this we will make two holes. We will insert two bolts into them and tighten them with nuts. We measure the length of our strap and drill holes at this distance from each other. Screw the nut from the inside to the bolt. It is important that your hand fits inside the pipe. The bolt should not be too long so that it is approximately 3mm inside. protruded from the pipe wall.

This is what attaching a bolt to a pipe looks like:

We make a fastening at the other end in the same way, and the pipe becomes a tube:

All that remains is to put on the strap and glue one plug. We put on the strap in 5 seconds. We simply fasten it to the ears with carabiners:

Adjust the strap to your height and put it on your back. Next, glue the lid to one of the ends and place the product in a dry place to dry.

This is what homemade rod tubes look like:

Some fishermen cover their products with hard fabric. This is done more for aesthetic appeal than functionality. The advantages of such tubes are their long service life. They do not break when dropped from a small height. They are sealed and do not allow water to pass through. The price of such products is several times lower than store-bought ones.

Today, fishing gear is expensive, and the structures can easily become deformed due to accidental physical activity, and to prevent damage it is better to use a spinning tube.

Advantages of making tubes for spinning rods:

  • All ready-made components and devices for fishing are expensive; making a tube for a spinning rod with your own hands is much cheaper than buying it in a store;
  • The process takes literally several hours, and even a person without experience can do it;
  • In fishing stores, as a rule, the tube is sold separately from the case, which is not always convenient for transportation, but when you make it yourself, you can get a 2-in-1 design.

Options for a homemade tube from scrap materials

To make a tube you can use different material, let us analyze step by step the construction from PVC pipes, plastic profile and foam plastic.

Many fishermen are wondering how to make a tube for a spinning rod, the most simple option use PVC pipe as the material.

The whole process occurs in several stages:

  • A pipe of the required diameter is selected; as a rule, a two-meter section is enough;
  • The pipe is cut to the length of the rods or fishing rods; you can also provide a small reserve for tackle and space for foam rubber;
  • The plug is attached to the body using strong adhesive, and the material can be a thick lid for a plastic jar;
  • For comfortable transportation, the case is covered with fabric; if you look at the picture, old jeans were used. If necessary, you can sew in a zipper; the process is complicated, but in the end the comfort of use will be much higher. The figure shows the manufacturing process:

Making a tube for spinning rods from a plastic profile

You can make a tube for a light spinning rod with your own hands from a plastic profile designed for a cable. The material is easy to use and can be easily separated, and it is easy to put insulation inside to protect your fishing gear.

  • The design parameters, as in the first case, are determined by the sizes of fishing rods and spinning rods.
  • The bottom is made of hard foam and covered with foam rubber;
  • The structure must be wrapped tightly with tape on all sides;
  • Taken dense material and the cover is sewn;
  • To prevent the lid from getting lost, it is sewn to the surface of the material, it also needs to be reinforced with foam rubber, after which fasteners are made;
  • Sew on the strap, having previously installed the fittings; the order of work can be seen in the figure.

Tube made of foam plastic

You can make a spinning tube with your own hands from polystyrene foam, which looks more like a case. The design is interesting to fishermen, since the manufacturing scheme is indicated on many forums and blogs.

Step-by-step algorithm:

  • A sheet of polystyrene foam is taken and cut into 2 strips, the size of which is determined by the parameters of the gear and fishing rods;
  • To do this, you need to attach fishing rods or spinning rods with a reel and circle them with a marker;
  • After the first cut strip, the second one is prepared;
  • At this stage, you will need a chisel to make recesses in two strips for volumetric parts; there should be no problems, since the foam plastic is easy to process;
  • After the structure is ready, everything will need to be secured on top with plastic or plywood to give the case rigidity;
  • To quickly prepare for fishing, pasting should be carried out in such a way that there is free access to spinning accessories.

Now your handmade spinning rod case is ready, you can start searching for fishing spots.

Many people do not want to bother with making cases themselves, since there is a large selection on the market finished products, let's look at what types there are.

What types of covers are there for spinning rods?

In any fishing store you can find several options for covers: hard, semi-hard, bags, soft materials and tubes.

The simplest and inexpensive options it is considered to be a structure made of soft waterproof fabric with a capacity of 1 to several fishing rods, but you need to be careful, since there will be no protection from mechanical damage.

Case bags are made of leatherette or plastic, are equipped with straps for easy transportation, and can also accommodate several fishing rods. When choosing, you should give preference to cases designed for a spinning rod or a fishing rod with a reel, since you won’t have to disassemble and reassemble each time. Ideal option There will be a trunk with an internal foam partition, since all gear will be securely fixed.

It is problematic to make a tube for a light spinning rod with your own hands, since it is screwed on with lids on both sides and is made of hard plastic. This design has increased strength and is not afraid of mechanical influences. The choice of tube should be based on the parameters of the rod.
