In this article we will tell you how to make a hanging shelf to store your favorite spinning rods. The idea is very simple and accessible to anyone who would like to keep their fishing rods in order.

In order to make your own rack for storing spinning rods, you will need the following materials and tools.

Materials:

  • pine board - 4 pieces 40 cm long and at least 2 cm thick;
  • wood glue;
  • wood screws;
  • wood putty;
  • alcohol or oil stain;
  • L-shaped anchors with threads and dowels for them - 4 pairs;
  • rubber elements like heat shrink, foam tape or the like;
  • U-shaped nails.

Tools:

  • electric drill;
  • hole saw or jigsaw;
  • wood drills 3 and 6 mm;
  • ruler and pencil for marking;
  • vice;
  • paint roller or paint brush;
  • chisel or knife with a beveled blade for wood carving;
  • sandpaper;
  • hammer;
  • grinder if necessary.

For work you will need boards 40 cm long and approximately 10-15 cm wide. The thickness in this case is arbitrary, at your discretion, but such that it is convenient to connect the elements joint to joint.

The author used boards 10 cm wide to make those parts in which the recesses for fishing rods are arranged. There are three such recess-slots in total, since it is necessary to leave at least 13 cm of space between them to accommodate the handle rod and coils. The diameter of each slot is 5 cm.

Mark the center of each slot on the board and mark as shown in the photo. After this, clamp the board securely in a vice and make round holes with a hole saw.

A hole saw is a type of saw that can be used to cut round-shaped holes in a workpiece made of any material, be it wood, concrete, or the like. Usually this is a metal crown (cylinder) with a cutting edge on which there is diamond sputtering(for concrete) or teeth (usually for wood).

A hole saw is not a very common tool, so it can easily be replaced with a jigsaw or use a drill attachment designed for making round holes in wood sheet materials.

Once the holes are made, you need to remove the wood between the edge of the board and the hole. This must be done at an angle as shown in the photo. But first, make markings so as not to spoil the workpiece and so that all the holes are the same.

Lightly sand the board with sanding paper (first coarse, then fine) and set aside for now.

Mark the central axis on wider boards (14 cm each) and draw a line with a pencil. It is necessary to make two holes on it with an electric drill for fastening blanks with slots at 90 degrees.

Apply glue to the edge of the workpiece and press it against wide board using clamps. Fasten the two parts together with screws using a screwdriver or using a screwdriver.

Step 2: finishing and painting

The hole saw left a sloppy cut with chipped wood, so the author decided to use putty.

Apply a thin layer of putty to the wood in uneven areas and let it dry completely. Sand the treated areas with fine sandpaper.

Try to match the color of the putty to the natural tone of the wood you are using.

Treat wood decoratively protective coating. The author used oil stain. Apply the stain using a roller or paint brush, wait until the first layer is absorbed into the pores of the wood, and repeat the procedure. Remove excess stain paper napkin.

Oil-based stain can just as easily be replaced with decorative tint oil or natural drying oil, if you want to preserve the natural shade of the wood.

Step 3: installation of the structure

The wall on which it was planned to hang the rack is concrete. Therefore, the installation method described below is suitable for any hard materials like brick, foam concrete, cinder block and the like.

Stand for storing spinning rods from the Takara company, convenient and practical, can accommodate up to 16 spinning rods and fishing rods. If you are an avid fisherman, then you will probably be pleased to admire your gear equipped on a stand; they will not lie around the garage, balcony or apartment, they stand neatly and do not disturb anyone. The stand for spinning rods is made of plastic and is assembled using reinforced screws.
