After completing the renovation work in the kitchen, it's time to equip it and buy kitchen furniture. But my husband had his hands full and decided to assemble the entire kitchen himself. The first stages flew by very quickly and, oddly enough, with high quality. After a couple of weeks, cabinets made from laminated chipboard were already in place, facades were made and everything was purchased necessary fittings. The question arose at the tabletop.
Table top made of laminated chipboard we left the shallows right away. There is only one option left - an artificial stone countertop. But unfortunately, we couldn’t afford to order it from manufacturers. And we dared to make the tabletop ourselves.
After reading several articles online on this topic, we settled on this choice of materials - the bottom is an OSB board, and the top of the tabletop is porcelain tiles (by the way, we bought it on the website http://magnit-stroy.ru/, it turned out to be very profitable) . The husband took an OSB board with a width of 22mm, firstly, it was the greatest thickness that we could get in our construction stores, and secondly, 22mm OSB boards and 16mm chipboards give us the required thickness for attaching what we have chosen end frieze.
Having cut the OSB board to the dimensions we needed, we placed it on the UD 17 profile, fixed to the wall. In front, small support legs were made, which were useful to us until the lower part of the kitchen was inserted. Later we cut a hole for the sink. Before installing and securing the tabletop, all ends of the OSB board were treated with PVA glue, not counting the edges where the frieze would be attached. We covered the lower part of the tabletop with paper soaked in PVA glue (a layer under the paper and on the paper). We attached the tabletop with metal self-tapping screws to the profiles, having previously drilled for the self-tapping screw and countersunk.

Having degreased the surface, the husband began gluing the porcelain tiles to the OSB board. By that time, the sink had already been installed so that the glued tiles were at the same level with the edge of the sink.
We glued the tiles using universal adhesive “Moment Installation Instant Grip”. The choice of this glue was justified by the fact that after drying temperature regime operation from -30 C to +80 C. Laying tiles must begin from the outer edge of the countertop, where the frieze will later be installed. The curve for the sink was cut using an angle grinder with a tile disc. It was decided to use Ceresit CE 47 or CE 48 grout for the seams. Such grout is actually not available, so we ordered it and are waiting until now (delivery takes a month and a half).

Every kitchen should be as comfortable and functional as possible. But in order to achieve such indicators, it is important to correctly select furniture and the materials from which it will be made. This must also be taken into account if, for example, you are making a kitchen countertop with your own hands.

Which material to choose?

The countertop in the kitchen is almost the central element. In addition to the fact that it forms the interior of this room, it also has important purposes: it is on this surface that all actions are performed (vegetables are cut, pots are placed). Accordingly, in order to make such an attribute as a kitchen countertop with your own hands, you need to choose durable and easy-to-use materials that will be resistant to various influences and at the same time give the room an advantageous look. The kitchen table must be durable, resistant to mechanical stress and damage, should be easy to clean. Today you can create a kitchen surface using:

  • artificial stone;
  • tiles;
  • wood, including chipboard;
  • tiles and much more.

Budget option: kitchen countertops made of chipboard

Of course, a surface lined with tiles or artificial stone, will look stylish and chic. However, many are looking budget options solving the problem of finishing the kitchen, and chipboard is perfect for this. By the way, for the kitchen depends on several factors:

  • location of the table in the room;
  • on the ratio of the size of the kitchen and kitchen set.

Well, the personal preferences of residents play an important role. Typically, the tabletop has a thickness of 3-4 cm with a length of one and a half meters or more. The width, as a rule, averages 1.6 meters.

How to create a surface from chipboard

Of course, for the kitchen it’s a profitable solution, but by no means the most correct one. This is due to the fact that in rooms where it is too humid and the temperature is constantly changing, the wood can dry out and crack. Accordingly, you will have to work hard to properly process this material.

To do this we will need to prepare all the materials and tools. Firstly, to create supports we will need chipboard sheets, as well as a 40 by 50 beam, which is attached along the perimeter of the wall: our kitchen countertop will be supported on it. Creating it with your own hands is very profitable, since all the materials are inexpensive and easy to find. At the second stage, we attach plywood to the beams (its thickness should be approximately 1.5-2 cm), and it should hold our table firmly and securely. You can glue tiles, tiles or other material on top of the plywood - it all depends on your capabilities and preferences.

If you want to change the countertop in the kitchen, then doing it with chipboard is the easiest and most profitable solution. Moreover, in terms of quality and reliability of operation, a surface created with your own hands will be in no way inferior to a store-bought one.

Tile or tile?

The table top can be made from different materials. For example, if you want to decorate your kitchen in a certain style, you can choose a marble finish for it or tile it tiles. If you like marble-like countertops for your kitchen, creating one yourself won't be that difficult. We will need:

  1. Beam: the frame will be made from it, so it must be smooth, solid, 40 by 50 or 50 by 50 thick.
  2. Sand, crushed stone, cement: on their basis, a “foundation” for the countertop will be created.
  3. We will make reinforcement from metal rods.
  4. Fillers for concrete.
  5. Boards (they are needed to create formwork).
  6. Aluminum profile for finishing edges.
  7. Liquid Nails.
  8. Finishing materials.

To assemble the frame and formwork, we will need a jigsaw, an angle grinder, a tape measure and a level.

Creating a frame

Tabletop based concrete slab will be quite heavy, so a frame will be required. To do this we need to know the dimensions of the kitchen countertop : Based on this data, we cut beams of a certain length that will serve as racks. We attach them to the floor using metal corners. At the junction of the racks with the walls, you need to drill them and fix them with anchor dowels. We complete the frame frame with the help of horizontal jumpers that are mounted on the racks. The frame must be checked for strength, since the entire load will fall on it.

We take boards and use them to make bottom part countertops, as well as formwork. It must be assembled in such a way that it can always be removed without harming the concrete. If there should be space left in the countertop for a sink or you need to mark these areas with edges. All formwork should be closed plastic film to protect the structure from the concrete mixture.

Preparation for pouring concrete

First, we put reinforcement into the formwork, which is connected to each other: the better the filling of the base, the stronger the tabletop will be. We prepare a solution of cement, sand and crushed stone in a ratio of 1:2:2. To ensure that the solution is of high quality, we add plasticizers to it. The solution should be fluid. If it should imitate, for example, marble, we add the appropriate pigment to it (it can be purchased at construction stores). The finished solution is poured into the formwork, leveled, covered with film and left to dry for about 10 days. To get it for the kitchen, you need to make sure that the solution does not dry out: if necessary, the surface can be moistened with a spray bottle.

Finishing: finishing touches

This is the most final stage in creating a tabletop. We will consider two options: tiling or polishing concrete. In the first case, a special tile adhesive is applied to the surface, distributed evenly, after which the tiles are laid. This must be done carefully, firmly, evenly, so that the surface turns out to be of high quality. All seams must be aligned. The main thing is to correctly calculate the size of the kitchen countertop and the amount of material for finishing it.

If you choose a method such as polishing concrete, then you first need to sand the surface of the countertop. Our goal is a perfectly smooth coating. By the way, we use for this grinder and discs of different grain sizes. After these works, the surface must be freed from dust and treated with a special impregnating compound. Having such a machine at hand, you can always polish the surface of the tabletop, and it will look like new.

What are the benefits of homemade countertops?

Firstly, it is possible to choose the optimal color combination, as well as the shape of the kitchen set. Secondly, you can significantly reduce costs compared to similar finishing by specialists or purchasing new furniture. Thirdly, by creating a countertop with your own hands, you will be able to control every stage of this process, paying attention to every detail. Fourthly, you will be able to independently perform all the calculations and select the finishing materials that you would like to see in your kitchen. If you follow the rules described above, you can create a tabletop with your own hands very simply. Moreover, it is not at all necessary to use chipboard for this: expand the boundaries of your imagination and learn to work with new materials. The beauty of your kitchen is in your hands!

The table in the kitchen is one of the most popular pieces of furniture in every apartment. It must be durable and easy to use. In addition, if the table is visually attractive, then spending time in the kitchen will be doubly pleasant. Chipboard is suitable material for the production of kitchen furniture, as it is practical and durable. You can collect kitchen table from chipboard with your own hands.

What is needed to make furniture?

In order to collect dinner table from your own hands, prepare the following parts:
  • Two pieces for the side posts (74 by 46 centimeters). They are used as legs.
  • One piece intended for the tabletop (95 by 56 cm).
  • Beam for the thrust frame, which is intended to make a tabletop (two pieces of 2.5 by 4.5 cm, the length of which is 72 centimeters and two pieces of timber 30 centimeters each).
  • Ten furniture corners.
  • A piece of timber that is needed for the lower strut. Its length should reach 74 cm (4 by 3.5 cm).
  • Self-tapping screws three different sizes: 3.5 by 16 in the amount of 45 pieces to secure the corners; 4.2 by 65 in the amount of six pieces to secure the sides; 3.5 by 51 in the amount of eight pieces to fasten the supporting frame.

Making a table top

Remember that before you start making a kitchen table from chipboard with your own hands, you need to carefully study the drawings, since standard circuits will make your work much easier.
  1. Sand the chipboard using sandpaper.
  2. Round all four corners of the slab. Need to cut the required form by using electric jigsaw. Then set the finished tabletop aside.
  3. Assemble a frame that is designed to enhance the strength of the countertop and prevent it from sagging.
  4. Take four pieces of timber for the thrust frame, then join them and screw in the screws. The easiest connection option would be to secure it using furniture metal corners.

Making side racks

  1. Take a piece of chipboard (the size should be 74 by 46 centimeters), step back ten centimeters from the long side and draw a horizontal line across the entire width of the slab.
  2. Mark the second edge in the same way, then from the resulting lines, make marks in the form of identical ovals on both sides and cut them out.
  3. After this, on one long side from the beginning of the slab to the horizontally drawn strip, make a round cutout in the center (for the lower side rack of the table).
  4. The second rack is made similarly.

How to assemble a kitchen table correctly

  1. Place the tabletop on a flat surface (preferably the floor).
  2. Step back eleven and a half centimeters from each of the long sides, draw horizontal stripes across the entire width.
  3. Divide them in half and make marks to create the center of the slab.
  4. Then take the frame and mark the center of the width of the frame in the same way, then bring the marks together and center them.
  5. When the frame lies clearly in the middle of the tabletop, screw it on using self-tapping screws in four sections (3.5 by 51).
  6. Make marks in the center along the width of the side posts, connecting them in the center of the tabletop. Then fasten the racks to the frame using self-tapping screws (3.5 by 16), as well as furniture corners.
  7. After assembling the racks, insert a lower stop bar that is longer than the frame for a small spacer for the legs. The thrust stand is also secured using corners.
  8. For strength, screw two self-tapping screws (4.2 by 65) to the top of the side posts where they contact the frame. This is done from the outside. The same process must be carried out with the support bar.
If you decide to make a kitchen table from chipboard with your own hands, the photo will be useful to see ready-made example. Remember that before assembling the parts, they need to be cleaned and covered with paper. You can also apply putty and then varnish.

Floors made of OSB boards can be found quite often. To install OSB on a wooden floor or walls, you do not need complex, highly professional installation, but care must be taken, since it is important not to miss a single moment in the installation technology.

How to cover an OSB floor on joists and concrete

Making OSB flooring is not difficult, and you can use the simplest panel. To make the flooring more durable, you should choose canvases with grooves. The joints should be located directly on the joists, but if they are too large, it is better to install additional fastener. To lay OSB panels and make a floor on joists, you will first need to prepare the necessary equipment.

Namely:

  • Jigsaw;
  • Drill;
  • Roulette;
  • Self-tapping screws;
  • Building level.

There should be a distance of no more than 40 cm between the beams, and in this case it is permissible to lay sheets 1.5 cm thick. If the distance is greater, then the panels should be thicker. The distance between the boards is the same, and it is also important to lay the boards correctly so that a small gap remains. The gaps will subsequently be filled with the most common polyurethane foam.

Making OSB flooring with your own hands is quite simple.

If additional thermal insulation is needed, you can use polystyrene foam or ordinary mineral wool.

It is quite possible to lay OSB sheets according to concrete screed, and for this it is worth following the sequence of actions. The foundation is being prepared. The floor must be thoroughly vacuumed so that dust does not cause poor adhesion between the canvas and the floor. It is imperative to prime the concrete surface. Any primer can be used as a solution, even deep penetration, at least ordinary. Next you need to cut the sheet, this can be done with your own hands. It is definitely worth considering such a point as leaving a technical gap near the walls, which should be equal to 5 mm. This is required in order to prevent the sheets from swelling when their size increases, which occurs when exposed to moisture. Direct installation is carried out using rubber-based glue and a driven dowel. Before laying sheets on a concrete floor, you need to lay insulation and also make sure that the sheets are smooth and suitable for construction. Laying on a subfloor is not difficult, and it is possible to do everything yourself.

Advantages of floor panels

Such construction material OSB board has a lot of advantages, thanks to which many people prefer to lay it on the floor. The material has such a high density that rodents cannot gnaw through the canvas and damage its integrity. This finish is resistant to moisture.

Accordingly, you can select panels for:

  • Baths;
  • Bathroom;
  • And similar wet rooms.

The canvas has excellent pressing, and therefore even small scraps do not crumble. The product has excellent resistance to impact biological factors. The canvas is completely environmentally friendly, since natural wood shavings are used for production.

OSB board has many advantages

It is not at all difficult to carry out installation, whether to concrete or to any other foundation, and no professional training is required.

The cost of the material is not too high, and one element has quite impressive dimensions, which means it can cover a large area. OSB has an excellent level of reliability, which allows for the highest quality of not only finishing, but also construction. Thanks to good wear resistance, you can use the canvas for a long time and not worry about the formation of defects, since the material does not dry out. OSB is difficult to bend, easy to saw and replace with a new one.

OSB thickness and composition

The characteristics of the material mean a lot, but when choosing OSB sheets, you also need to pay attention to such criteria as parameters and manufacturer. When creating a finished floor, or perhaps it will be a substrate for laminate flooring on a balcony, you should always follow the recommendations from specialists in the selection of finishes and then it will fully meet your expectations.

Craftsmen with extensive experience working with such fabrics prefer to use panels made in Europe and Canada.

Choosing OSB boards, take them into account specifications and the manufacturer

The thickness is selected according to:

  • The type of coating the panel will be laid on;
  • Budget;
  • Operational properties.

As for the dimensions, there is only one standard, and it is 2.44x1.22 m. Thickness does not affect the dimensions, but the quality of the finish does. If you need to attach small pieces of OSB, then it is possible to cut the sheet at home, which will not cause much difficulty or problems.

Do-it-yourself budget OSB furniture

OSB boards are excellent as kitchen decor, for example, for covering an apron or even creating original shelves. An openwork cabinet or bookshelf in an office will look very unusual.

The use of OSB panels is very diverse, since the board can be installed as a partition between rooms, and can also be used:

  • For arranging a roof in a private house;
  • For finishing the stairs to the second floor;
  • As a cladding;
  • As a canvas to cover a warm floor;
  • For making furniture with your own hands.

Using OSB boards you can make your own furniture

Due to the fact that the slabs are hard and will not warp, massive cabinets are made from them. Among the additional advantages, it is worth noting the presence of a decorative structure. The furniture is made simply, but looks very unusual, and sometimes it does not even require additional finishing.

If you glue original pictures onto OSB furniture, creating a Provence style, you can achieve excellent result and create an original interior with your own hands.

There are a lot of options, but it all depends on preferences and capabilities. If you wish, you can construct an entire children's playground inside the house, but first you need to familiarize yourself with what screws will be used to carry out the fastening.

Correct installation of OSB on a wooden floor

Over time, any coating loses its aesthetics and therefore, in order to cover the old plank floor, you need to lay OSB boards, and it is better if the board is moisture resistant. There are still some rooms in which the floor is not linoleum, but a plank floor.

Many were in a hurry to install such a coating, because it:

  • Durable;
  • Wear-resistant;
  • Durable.

Before laying OSB boards, it is necessary to prepare the base of the floor

The principle of laying the floor in this way is not complicated. The foundation is being prepared. You need to make sure that there are no protruding nails. If during the period of operation the boards have not only become deformed, but have become uneven, then before fastening is carried out, it is necessary to carry out leveling. A plane is used for this.

When laying out cut OSB sheets, you must not forget about the seams to move the sheets.

Fastening is carried out with self-tapping screws, the length of which is 4 cm. The fasteners are installed at a distance of 30 cm from each other. The caps must be recessed into the covering. After completing the work, you need to sand the joints of the canvas.

How to install OSB on walls

OSB panels should not be confused with a material such as plywood, the front side of which is unlikely to surprise anyone. It is worth noting that you also need to correctly pronounce the name of this canvas.

Some misinterpret RSD as:

  • WHISBY;
  • YIZBI;
  • WESBY;

This is required so that the OSB panel is chosen to cover the floor or walls, since an incredible amount of construction and finishing materials, and it’s not difficult to confuse them by their names. The laminated OSB panel is laid on a self-leveling or concrete floor using compounds such as mastic or glue.

To secure the OSB board to the wall, you need a sheathing that is installed to the building frame

To glue the canvases together, that is, concrete and boards, you need a lot of composition, but how much is needed is calculated depending on the situation, since more solution is transferred to the porous coating.

To secure the product to the wall, you need a sheathing that is installed to the building frame. The installation of the slabs itself is carried out with two-inch spiral nails of 51 mm or ring nails 4.5-7.5 cm long. Driving is carried out every 30 cm into the supports in the gaps. Where the slabs are connected, you need to drive in nails every 15 cm. In addition, you need to take care to leave expansion gaps so that the installation is as correct as possible. A space of 1 cm should be left between the edge of the slab located at the top and the crown-type beam. Between the edge of the slab located at the bottom and the foundation, 1 cm should also be left. Between the canvases that do not have grooves, there should be a distance of 0.3 cm.

In some cases, the decoration of walls sheathed OSB panels, will not be produced in the future, since rooms with such decoration look very unusual. The most common way to decorate a canvas can be called puttying, since it is not only finishing, but also additional sealing of cracks and joints. High-quality puttying allows you to get a perfectly beautiful room. If necessary, the putty can be painted, covered with wallpaper or any other finishing materials.

DIY OSB floors (video)

To renovation work or the construction of furniture from OSB panels was carried out competently and fully met expectations, as well as the expenditure of effort, money and time, all processes must be carried out according to a previously made project and only from high-quality material.
