Corner sofa

If you decide to update your kitchen and equip it with an additional design element, which will also perform several functions, then you need to assemble a sofa for the kitchen with your own hands, usually made in the form of a corner structure. After all, such a sofa can serve as a place for eating, relaxing, and also be a storage area for all kinds of kitchen utensils.

Note!

With minimal knowledge and skills in carpentry and installation work, you can create a comfortable and beautifully designed small kitchen sofa.

Another positive point- this is the fact that tables of almost any geometric shape are suitable for such a sofa.

Initial stage of work

To begin with, we select the place where this furniture will stand and, in accordance with this, we will make all the basic measurements. We will need to know the length of each part of the sofa, the width of the seat and its height. And after that, all measurements will need to be transferred to the drawing of the corner sofa. With the help of a correctly drawn up drawing, it will be much easier for you to manufacture and assemble it.

When taking measurements, try to correctly calculate the dimensions of the chair, namely the depth and height of the seat. After taking measurements, having calculated the amount of material, you go and buy it in the required quantity, perhaps with a small margin, leaving a small percentage for spoilage.

Sofa assembly

Cut the parts to the required sizes and begin assembling the frame. When assembling the sofa frame, join it tightly bottom part, which can first be glued and then put on screws. After assembling the frame, begin preparing the panels. The panel material is usually chosen medium density. It is quite durable and can also be cut well with a regular circular saw.

Finish the assembly by attaching the panel to the frame using long screws. Before final screwing, take all the parts into the kitchen and assemble the sofa, checking that it is assembled correctly. The last stage will be the fastening of the backs, which are also first glued and then screwed.

Final work

To increase the functionality of the sofa, use hinges when assembling the seat. Then you can open them and use them as an additional container for items. Then we upholster the sofa with fabric. It must meet two requirements: to be practical and beautiful. Fabrics made from synthetic fibers are especially practical, they are easy to clean and also repel moisture and dirt. Also an excellent material is leather, which is practical and easy to care for.

Sheathing process

Eurobook sofa

Another element of furniture in your apartment can be a Eurobook sofa. This is a very comfortable sleeping place that can easily be transformed into a seating area. Inside there is a spacious niche for a bed or other items.

Note!

The main parts of such sofas are the back, seat, sides and base.

If you decide to assemble such a structure yourself, then you need to understand that it is more complicated than the first two options considered, but this is not an impossible task.

Assembly method

In general, to create such sofas, two methods of assembly are used from beams and wooden sashes. The first option is more complex and will require average installation skills and a longer work process. But this option is also more durable, and this quality is completely useful when making sofas.

Make a sofa with your own hands, and you will see from your own example that there is nothing complicated about it!

So let's get started.

To work you will need following materials and tools:

1. Tools:
- jigsaw. If you don’t have a jigsaw, it doesn’t matter: use a hacksaw, especially since it will also come in handy in the process of sawing bars;
- pneumatic furniture stapler. If you intend to make only one product, use mechanical stapler– it will cost less;
- screwdriver;
- a grinder or plane for grinding down sharp corners of the frame;
- staple remover or sharp screwdriver;
- a sharp knife for cutting foam rubber;
- scissors;
- sewing machine for sewing sofa upholstery elements;
- roulette.

2. Materials:
- bars with a cross section of 40-50 mm;
- plywood or any other affordable, durable and, if possible, lightweight sheet material;
- furniture foam rubber, 50 mm thick. You can purchase foam rubber, like many other materials, in a specialized online store “everything for furniture”;
- padding polyester or batting for additional softness of the frame and the product as a whole;
- furniture fabric;
- wood glue;
- strong thread for sewing upholstery parts;
- self-tapping screws or furniture screws (if using the latter, you will need an electric drill);
- marker or pencil.

Let's get to work.

1. Frame
The basis of our sofa is the frame. It can be of any shape and size, but this article describes the simplest project, which can be made by a person inexperienced in production upholstered furniture.

The basis of the frame is wooden blocks and slats with a cross section of 40-50 mm or any other size that ensures strength finished product.

Additional rigidity is given to the frame by the sheet materials with which it is sheathed - plywood, OSB, chipboard, fiberboard, etc. The inside of the frame is hollow, which makes it relatively light.

At home, the sofa frame is assembled using a screwdriver and self-tapping screws. The holes for the screws can be pre-drilled with a drill, and the screws themselves can be lubricated with wood glue when drilling.

Glue is also often used at the joint wooden parts, before they are connected using self-tapping screws. In this case, they are pressed against each other with clamps for a while.

In addition, when assembling the frame, it is convenient to use all kinds of angular and curved metal fasteners.

The length of our sofa will be 3 meters. It is quite roomy and consists of two equal parts - 1.5 m each. In the photo below you see one of them - left side sofa

2. Frame and mattress
The frame of the future mattress - the base of our sofa - is made of boards. For greater comfort, there is a binding made of furniture straps.

It is not difficult to do: first, the belts are fixed horizontally with a stapler, then the binding should be done and the belts are fixed perpendicularly - vertically.

The photo shows what we should get in the end. These are the two components of the mattress.

3. Back
The photo below shows the frame of the back of our sofa, covered with plywood. Please note that the frame itself is made of wooden blocks, and metal connectors are used to fasten the parts.

The back is hollow and light, making it easy to work with. Form in in this case as simple as possible - rectangular in profile. Without special effort you can make it sloping by increasing the width at the base and decreasing the width of the frame at the top.

4. Side parts
By analogy with the back, we also make the side parts of the frame. It should be noted that the protruding bars that are visible in the photo will serve as a base for foam rubber in the future. But more on that later.

5. Pasting with foam mats
After assembling the frame, we proceed to installing the foam rubber.

Pieces of foam rubber required size and forms we paste over the top and front part of the back, as well as the inner surfaces of the side elements. We lay the foam rubber on the mattress on top of the binding.

The glue can be applied with a wide brush or used in aerosol form. Immediately after applying the layer of glue, press the foam rubber to the surface and leave for some time (usually no more than half an hour) until it sets.

6. Sintepon (batting)
In order to hide unevenness, smooth out sharp transitions and add volume, the back, sides and, if desired, the mattress are wrapped with padding polyester or batting.

Before proceeding to this stage, it is necessary to sand all the sharp corners of the frame so that the upholstery does not wear out and lasts as long as possible. This operation is carried out using a grinder, plane or simply coarse sandpaper.

7. Fabric upholstery.
Covers are usually sewn using ready-made patterns and templates. If there are none, you can make them yourself by applying and trying on the fabric to each of the elements of the sofa, be it the back or the pillow. Some of them can have zippers sewn into them for easy cleaning and washing.

The covers can be cut strictly according to the shape or gathered together and secured with a stapler in those places where the design allows.

As a last resort, sewing covers can be entrusted to specialists from the studio. Their design is very simple and inexpensive.

A box is assembled from these materials.

The structure is supplemented with slats installed transversely, made of boards 80 cm long, 5 cm wide and 2 cm thick. The bottom is covered with a fiberboard sheet measuring 190x80cm.

. Seat and back

To make the seat and back frames, take timber with a section of 40x60cm. A rectangle of 189x65cm is made from it. The timber parts are connected with nails and self-tapping screws, drilling holes.

Attached to finished frames lamellas made of wood. They will become a support for the mattress.

. Armrests

First from the sheet Chipboard, the thickness of which is 2.5 cm, the side walls of the sofa are cut out. The dimensions are in the photo.

Then a frame is knocked down according to the same dimensions, to which the sawn wall is attached.

. Laying foam rubber

Fixed on top of the slats interlining. They lay on it foam sheets, the thickness of which is about six centimeters. To ensure that the sheet is correctly placed on the frame and does not cover the transformation mechanism, pieces are cut out in the corners.

To make a soft cushion on the edge of the seat, a strip of foam rubber 2 cm thick and 20 cm wide is glued there. Another sheet of foam rubber, 4 cm thick, is glued on top. Its edge is folded down, under the seat.

Similar actions are performed with the back. Then covers, sewn to size, are pulled over the back and seat.

To make soft armrests, a roller is made of foam rubber. Foam rubber is used with a thickness of 4 cm. The width of the strip is initially 15 cm, and towards the middle it decreases to 5 cm.

Foam rubber 2cm thick is fixed on top.

TO inside such foam rubber is glued to the armrest at a distance of 32 cm from the bottom edge.

After gluing, the back of the foam sheet is fixed on top of the existing material. The excess is cut off.

There are protruding edges on the front side of the armrest that need to be tucked in.

Finished parts are covered with fabric and nailed to them accessories.

    We make the frame of the back, sew it and the lower part of the sofa with a slab

  • Seats - they are assembled in parts, and it is important to take into account the coincidence of the diagonals of the boxes in order to obtain a normal shape, a stable frame.

    For the seat, a sheet of matching size is cut out, foam rubber is glued onto it, spandbond and padding polyester are laid

  • Legs - cut out of wood or purchased ready-made, wooden, metal.

    We attach the frames with legs to the frame and connect them with long screws through the holes in the legs

Before assembly, the sides are drilled; special mechanisms sold in stores are used to make a folding sofa. furniture fittings. The frame of the product is assembled very carefully - the strength, durability, and stability of this piece of furniture depend on it.

Advice. After assembly, all parts are glued. They must first be well sanded.

Sewing a cover, covering

Before starting the sheathing, check all the joints - the fastening should be as rigid as possible, nothing should “lobble”. The surfaces to be sheathed are measured, each part is cut out, glued, then the next one is measured, cut, and glued. The elements are joined to each other, they must be properly trimmed, and the trimmings must be used to form the joints. A thick layer of foam rubber is laid on the seat - at least 100 mm. To do this, it is glued together from several thin sheets. To design the sidewalls, 40-60 mm is enough. At the end, check how tightly the upholstery fits, whether all protruding corners and sharp parts are well covered.

We attach the side parts to the corner part, connecting the lower parts of the walls

Then they move on to the casing furniture fabric– it is chosen to be wear-resistant, high-quality, beautiful. Depends on appearance finished product. Fabric can be purchased at any textile or furniture store.

We sew the cut parts for the seat, back and pillows from upholstery fabric

If you combine two or three fabrics at the same time, the product will come out very original, but it is important to choose the upholstery correctly.

How the upholstery is made:

  • Patterns of each part are cut out from newspapers or wallpaper, their coincidence is checked by applying them to the surfaces of the sofa;
  • on the wrong side of the fabric, borders are drawn, details are cut out, leaving allowances of at least one centimeter on each side;
  • the tensions are made symmetrically, so the finished sofa will look harmonious, there will be practically no folds;
  • so that the fabric holds better, buttons and loops are secured through holes on the body;
  • if you put a layer of agrotextile or synthetic padding under the upholstery, the foam rubber will crumble much less;
  • textiles are secured using construction stapler, first one side, then the opposite, the edges are tucked in.

After this, the sofa is assembled again and made decorative pillows, harnesses, brushes, machine stitches. Legs and wooden pads are attached at the very end.
