Making blinds for windows with your own hands. Do-it-yourself blinds: simple instructions for creating vertical, horizontal and roller options (125 photos)

The summer heat makes even the most resistant high temperatures people should shield themselves from the merciless rays of the sun, especially in cases where the apartment windows face south. It is not always financially possible to purchase high-quality blinds for windows, and sometimes there is simply no desire to wait until they are made to specific sizes. Therefore, the question arises of how to make blinds from wallpaper, the excess of which, as a rule, remains after repairs and gathers dust in the pantry. In addition, thick wallpaper paper can not only protect the room from overheating, and curtains from fading, but will also organically fit into general interior, especially if you use the same material that covers the walls of the room.

This method of protecting yourself from the sun will save not only a decent amount of money, but also time, as it will save you from multiple trips to the workshop.

In addition, you can notice that carefully made pleated blinds will not look disharmonious or “beggarly” at all - today some designers deliberately choose this option for protecting windows from sunlight, because such curtains are quite capable of becoming a real decoration of the room.

It is also very important to do such paper curtains- Any home owner can do it, even those who have never done handicrafts before. Therefore, if you have everything you need to make pleated blinds at hand, you can safely get down to business.

Manufacturing of pleated blinds

The first option and several of its variations

Before starting work, it is necessary to clear the table of everything unnecessary, since you will need a lot of space on which you can freely spread a sheet of wallpaper, at least 1500 mm long. After this, you can proceed to preparing all necessary tools, which, however, can probably be found in any home.

Illustration
So, to make blinds you will need:
- canvas, preferably paper wallpaper;
- scissors;
- meter ruler and pencil;
- a beautiful thin cord, approximately 1.5÷2 mm thick;
- awl;
- Double-sided tape,
- stationery knife.
You may also need tape to decorative design or supporting the canvas in a folded form, depending on the selected model of pleated blinds.
Instead of a retainer, you can use a regular clothespin that matches the color of the wallpaper, or a hair clip.
The lock is necessary to secure the blinds in the desired position.
For this purpose, a clothing accessory is used, which can most often be found on the laces of the hoods of sweatshirts or jackets.
A rope is threaded through it, it is clamped inside the clamp, and the curtain is securely held at the selected height.
The very first step is to measure the window or just the glass unit, depending on how wide the curtain is planned to be made.
Let’s say the window height is 1350 mm, about a quarter is added to this value, that is, in this case- another 350 mm, which are necessary for the formation of folds.
The result is a length of 1700 mm - this is the length that wallpaper will be required.
Next, wallpaper is spread on the table, measured right size canvases.
To prevent the roll from curling, it is recommended to place a weight on its edges.
After marking the required length, it is necessary to draw a line along the square, perpendicular to the edges, along which the wallpaper is cut.
Then, the wallpaper intended for blinds needs to be marked to the size of the corrugation.
Typically the width of the fold is 20÷30 mm.
Naturally, the marks along the edges of the canvas must correspond to each other.
The canvas must be drawn using a ruler using the marking points made.
Along the marked lines it will be easier to bend the canvas into an accordion.
The first fold is best folded using the edge of a ruler.
It is laid along the drawn line, the edge of the canvas is folded and the fold of the fold is indicated, so the bend will be smooth and clear.
If the wallpaper is too thick, then use folded scissors or the blunt side of a blade to follow the drawn line, applying a ruler. table knife, with gentle pressure.
Then, to obtain a clear line, bend the first fold and draw along it with the side of a pencil or pen (naturally, so that no trace remains - the pencil must be clean).
Next, focusing on the markings and the first bend, the fold is bent in the opposite direction, according to the “accordion” principle.
Such manipulations are carried out until the entire canvas is folded into an even stack.
The resulting “accordion” is pressed from above with a ruler, which will additionally help to temporarily fix the “pleated” shape in this position.
After this, depending on the chosen model of blinds, the middle of the width of the curtain is determined, or 150 mm are retreated from the edges to pierce holes.
In the first case, one cord will be passed through the middle of the future curtain, in the second model, two cords will be passed through the canvas closer to the edges of the blinds.
At the designated points, using an awl, one hole is pierced in the middle part of the folded curtain, or two - closer to the edges.
The resulting punctures need to be slightly widened by carefully twisting the awl in them.
This will be required in order to pass ropes through them, which should move freely inside the holes made.
The next step, using a “gypsy” needle or crochet hook, is to pull a rope through the holes, the edges of which must be melted in advance, and its lower side secured in a clamp.
Moreover, below the clamp you need to leave a cord approximately 400÷500 mm long - this will be a reserve for stretching the curtains in length.
Later, its excess can be cut off, and the end can also be melted.
When the rope is pulled through the entire “accordion”, it should be secured with tape on the top fold of the curtain.
Then, a strip of double-sided tape is glued to the same part of the blinds.
The result should be a design like this.
Both the first and second curtain options can be left rectangular, tied, for example, at the bottom with ribbons.
Blinds with one cord running through the middle can be folded into a fan by slightly pulling them up and securing them with a latch.
After the “fan” is formed, its edges are glued together with double-sided tape or, if possible, with silicone using a special gun.
But in this case, it will no longer be possible to separate the glued edges.
Therefore, instead of glue, you can use a small clothespin or hair clip for fastening, hooking it in the middle of the width of the blinds, on the side that will be turned towards the window glass.
In this case, such fixation of the “fan” will be invisible from the room, and at any moment it is possible to straighten the bottom of the blinds to make them even.
If you choose a fan-shaped bottom of the curtain, then its folds need to be beautifully and carefully straightened so that the rays of the folds converge at one point in the center.
The finished blinds are fixed to the upper part of the window frame using a strip of double-sided tape previously glued to them, from which the protective film is removed before fixing.

There are several more options for blinds, which you can also make yourself using wallpaper.

  • This is a simpler version of pleated blinds, for which you don’t even need to prepare and thread cords through the canvas. For such a curtain you will need a sheet of wallpaper, which is folded like an accordion in the same way as described in the table above. The blinds are also secured to the frame using double-sided tape, and their lower side in the middle is pulled up and fixed regular clothespin or with a hairpin, forming a beautiful fan. If desired, you can stick foil on the wallpaper, on the side facing the street, which will reflect ultra-violet rays, preventing them from heating the room.

  • If the apartment has arched windows, then wallpaper blinds can become a real decoration for them, since they are fixed along the arch in the form of an elegant fan, gathering one edge of the wallpaper bent into an “accordion”.

To do this, regular adhesive tape 15 mm wide is glued to the wallpaper, previously folded like an accordion, along one edge.

Then, the “accordion” is collected in a stack and pierced through with an awl from the side where the tape is attached. Through the resulting hole, using a gypsy needle, a cord is pulled, which will tighten the lower edge of the fan, and the tape will prevent the paper from tearing. The cord is tied in a knot on the side that will be facing the glass. Blinds made in this way will not only protect the room from the sun, but will also give the room a special charm, emphasizing the shape of the arch.

Prices for blinds

  • If the arched part of the window is divided by a vertical pillar of the frame, then for each half of it, two half-fans are made according to the principle described above. They are attached to each window sash separately, forming a whole semicircle. This method of fixing curtains on an arched window looks no less interesting than the previous option.
  • If there is a need to close only top part windows, for example, to block the flow of sunlight to any specific area of the room (crib, desk, etc.), you can use wallpaper folded in the form of a fan and attached to one of the corners of the frame. This option looks quite original, both from inside the apartment and from the street.

The second option - the task is somewhat more complicated

Making the next model of curtains from paper, including wallpaper, will take much longer than regular pleated curtains. However, they look more respectable, and will also protect the room from heat much more reliably, since they consist of two layers, between which an air gap is created.

  • To make such blinds, the wallpaper must be marked and cut into strips approximately 100 mm wide.
  • The strips are rolled lengthwise into a tube, and then their edges are glued together with an overlap of 10 mm. There should be enough such tubes to cover the entire height of the window.
  • The glue must dry well, and then each tube is compressed into flat lamella, so that clear side ribs are outlined, and the place where it is glued is in the middle of the upper side.
  • Next operation – middle line Each folded tube is coated with glue in a strip of 10÷12 mm, and all elements are glued together along the length. The glue should not spread, so dry glue is best - otherwise the whole effect of the lightness of such a design will be blurred.
  • All glued and stacked tubes must dry thoroughly.
  • Then, without unfolding the resulting structure, you need to retreat 150 mm from its edges. In these places, using an awl, holes are pierced and widened into which the cords are passed. They should not be visible from the outside, as they will pass inside the straightened tubes. The lower ends of the ropes are passed through clamps that will help hold the curtain in different positions. Thanks to air gaps formed in the tubes, the blinds can be completely stacked or raised to the desired height.
  • You can hang these blinds using two plastic rings tied to the upper edges of a rope. They are hung on hooks screwed into the upper slope of the window opening. In the case of plastic windows, you can get by with double-sided tape, since such blinds are not heavy at all.

Newspaper blinds

This type of blinds can be made from any paper, including wallpaper, but most often old newspapers are used to make this type - due to the fact that they are printed on thin paper that curls easily and retains its shape.

To work, you will need a lot of newspapers, a nice thin cord, two plastic rings, screws, nails or hooks, depending on which plane the blinds will be attached to.

To make curtains of this type, measuring 900×400 mm, you will need to wind 170÷200 newspaper tubes 400 mm long. If they turn out to be a little longer, they can be trimmed upon completion of the work. Based on this proportion, you can calculate the quantity for your window opening size.

IllustrationBrief description of the operation performed
To make it easier to carry out preparatory stage work - preparing tubes, you will need a knitting needle or another fairly thin metal rod.
Its diameter will depend on how large it is planned to make these blind elements.
Having wound the newspaper onto a rod, its edge is secured with dry glue or PVA. The glue must dry well.
Having prepared required amount tubes, they need to be painted acrylic paint Moreover, you can use any colors - as planned in the sketch of future blinds.
It is recommended to take a coloring composition intended for facade works, as it is more water resistant.
Additionally, it is best to add PVA glue to the paint in a ratio of 3:1.
After the paint has dried, the tubes are laid out in a row and aligned.
Next, you can move on to the important stage - to fastening them together into one “canvas”.
This process can be done in two ways:
The first option is to fasten the tubes by intertwining them with rope, making one or two knots between them, or simply using the “figure eight method.”
It is best to fix the knots with glue so that they do not unravel or loosen.
Work starts from the top side of the curtain. The rope is tied to a plastic ring for curtains; its ends should be about one and a half times longer than the length of the blinds, and it is better if they are even slightly larger than they will not be enough.
Then, the two ends of the cord are intertwined, one of which runs from the outside and the other from the back of the tubes.
Second option will do for those who master the art of crocheting. Moreover, in this case, knowledge of complex patterns is not required at all - you just need to be able to weave a simple chain.
This fastening method is more reliable, as it firmly holds the tubes next to each other.
In this case, the cord does not spontaneously weaken or stretch.
If the tubes are tied in knots, then in the lower part the cord is also tied with a knot, which must be additionally secured with glue for reliability.
In order to hang blinds on a window frame, you can drive nails into it, screw in self-tapping screws or special hooks.
If the blinds turn out to be uneven at the edges, then they need to be carefully trimmed with sharp large scissors so that they do not crush the edges of the tubes.
After this, it is recommended to coat the finished product with acrylic varnish, which will make the tubes more durable and give them a matte shine.
When finished, the blinds look something like this.
If you need a smaller distance between the tubes, you can tie one knot instead of two, use the figure-of-eight weaving system or a crocheted chain.
In this photo you can see how the street is visible through the tubular blinds.
At the same time, the room is kept cool, and it is possible to have an unobstructed view of the street from the room, but at the same time, nothing will be visible from the outside.
If this type of blinds is painted in White color, then in the evening the window will look as shown in the photo, that is, the opening will not stand out as a dark spot.

On a cloudy day, if you want to open the window completely, you can use two methods.

  • Firstly, blinds can be easily removed when not needed, since they are hung on the window using two rings, but you can do it in another way.
  • Secondly, it is not difficult to make a simple “regulator” for the opening height of the blinds. On the side of the window, cords 200÷250 mm long are tied to plastic rings, and another ring is attached to their lower end. Once the blinds are rolled up into a roll, the bottom ring is placed on the same nail or hook that the blinds are hung from. Instead of a cord, you can use one or two satin ribbons, which will not only support the curtain, but can also serve as a decorative decoration.

It should be noted that the same blinds can be made not only from newspapers, but also from a flat wooden rod, well-dried reeds or plastic tubes, which are fastened together in exactly the same way.

Decorating old blinds with paper wallpaper

If there are already blinds on the windows, but they have lost their attractive appearance, and you would like to purchase new ones, but there are certain difficulties with finances, then there is still a way out. Look in the storerooms - after one of the repairs there is probably a piece of wallpaper left, and all you have to do is put in a little effort. appearance windows will be changed.

So, in order to carry out this somewhat creative process, you need to prepare:

  • Wallpaper or beautiful decorative paper.
  • Any plastic blinds.
  • Brush and PVA glue.
  • Scissors, ruler and pencil.

Having prepared everything you need, you can proceed to work:

  • First of all, the blinds need to be cleaned of dust that may accumulate on the slats during their operation. Sometimes this requires a lot of effort, but such an operation is necessary because the wallpaper will not stick well to the surface of dirty plastic.
  • Cleaned and dried blind slats need to be measured and counted.
  • Next, the wallpaper is spread on the table and marked using a ruler and pencil according to the dimensions taken from the slats. Then, the canvas is drawn into the required number of stripes. In addition, you need to mark on them the location of the holes through which the connecting threads on the blinds are passed. It is recommended that all stripes, according to the drawing, be numbered immediately so that there is no discrepancy in the ornament.
  • Then, the wallpaper is cut into marked strips, and in the places where the holes are located, cuts are made, or each of the paper overlays is cut into three parts. They will be glued to the slats between the holes for the fastening threads.
  • The next step is to carefully glue the wallpaper strips onto the slats of the blinds. If the strips protrude slightly beyond the edges of the lamellas, then after the glue has dried, the excess is carefully cut off with a sharp stationery knife. Do not trim the paper until the glue has dried, otherwise the work may be ruined.

  • So that the wallpaper coating becomes less dirty and the slats can be periodically cleaned of dust, they are covered with two to three layers acrylic varnish. Each subsequent layer is applied after the previous one has completely dried.

It should be noted that tidying up the blinds or simply making them more decorative look it is possible by gluing stained glass film on them, which today is available in the same way as wallpaper, and has quite affordable price. This material is easy to work with, and there is no additional need to purchase glue.

If you've been wanting to buy wooden wallpaper, but it didn’t work, since they are not cheap, you can cover ordinary plastic blinds with self-adhesive paper, which imitates the texture of wood.

At the end of the publication, there is an interesting video showing another interesting method of making paper blinds.

Video: Homemade paper blinds - try to do it yourself

Good afternoon everyone!

Today I would like to talk about installing blinds on plastic window. The opinion that window openings in residential premises should be covered with textile curtains is becoming a thing of the past.

Blinds are varied and functional so much that they will give a head start to any curtains and tulle. Before you buy a design a certain color or size, you need to think about how it will be located on the window and how it can be installed.

  • Vertical or horizontal slats,
  • rolled or pleated,
  • fabric or plastic - regardless of these indicators, blinds can be attached with or without power tools.

It is important to choose the location option:

  1. V window opening,
  2. over it
  3. or directly on the window sash.

Each of these cases is worth considering separately.

Blinds are the most practical way window decoration. Easy to install and easy to maintain, blinds are very popular. Thanks to the variety of types and colors, they will harmoniously fit into any room and complement the interior of the room. In this article we will look at the types of blinds and how to install them on windows. Let's learn how to attach blinds ourselves in different ways.

Kinds

In construction stores, one’s eyes run wide from the variety of colors and textures of window decor. How to choose suitable blinds and install them correctly? First of all, let's figure out what types of blinds exist.

  1. Horizontal blinds. The most practical, they tightly close the window and protect from light and prying eyes.
  2. Vertical blinds. Most often they are installed in offices or used to decorate blind windows, as they make it difficult to open the windows.
  3. Roller blinds. Close the window very tightly. They can become an independent decoration for a window opening.
  4. Cassette blinds. They consist of a special box that is installed on the frame. Do not interfere with opening windows.

How to choose

When choosing blinds, take into account the functional purpose of the room and the overall style of the room. Blinds can be fabric, plastic, aluminum, bamboo, etc.

A variety of colors and textures will allow you to choose the decor that suits your room. Be sure to measure your window before purchasing. This will allow you to choose the appropriate size product.

How to install blinds yourself

So, the blinds have been purchased. Don't rush to call an installation technician. You can easily cope with this task yourself. In addition to learning a useful skill, installing blinds can be a fun family pastime.

Blinds are installed in three ways:

  1. In the overlay. The product is attached at the top of the opening and covers the entire window to the window sill or below.
  2. In the window opening. Blinds are mounted in the window opening closer to the window. They also close the entire window up to the windowsill.
  3. Separately for each sash. The most practical way. The blinds are attached directly to the sash, thereby allowing you to open the shutters or put the window into ventilation mode without raising the blinds.

Note!

When taking measurements, you need to make an allowance depending on the type of installation. If you are going to attach the blinds with an overlay, add 10 cm to the width and height of the window opening. If you are installing blinds in a window opening, the height of the opening is pure form, width - minus 1.5 cm. When installed on each sash - sash width - minus 2 cm, sash height - minus 3 cm.

Each type of blinds has its own installation characteristics. Next, we will consider separately the principles of fastening products of each type.

Installing horizontal blinds

Typically, horizontal blinds come with all the necessary fasteners. Armed with a screwdriver, we begin the installation. They are installed in the window opening or on each sash separately.

  1. To attach the blinds to the window, measure the required distance and mark the places where the top strip will be attached.
  2. Using a screwdriver, drill holes and attach the corners that will hold the top bar.
  3. Secure the bar at the corners. First on one, then on the second. You should hear a click when attaching.
  4. Unfold the attached fabric downwards, mark the points where the bottom bar will be attached.
  5. Install the bottom bar in the same way as the top using the corners.

Installation of vertical blinds

Vertical blinds consist of a cornice with clamps that regulate sliding/sliding and lamellas - a canvas that covers the window.

The kit contains all the necessary fasteners, as well as detailed instructions on installation. This type of blind is installed with an overlay.

  1. Attach the curtain rod with clips to the ceiling. You can use the same screwdriver to attach the cornice.
  2. Insert the slats into the cornice. Each part of the canvas must be mounted separately. To do this, insert each strip into the corresponding latch and wait for the characteristic click.

Installing roller blinds

Roller blinds have the same mechanism as horizontal ones and are installed in the same way. It is most convenient to attach roller blinds directly to the sash, then they will not interfere when opening the windows. If you need to fix them in the window opening, it is better to use additional brackets, because the window handle protrudes a few centimeters. Without brackets, the handle will stick out from under the canvas and spoil the overall appearance.

Installation of cassette blinds

Cassette-type blinds are a ready-made box with a mechanism that is attached to the window frame. Installation is quite simple.

  1. Attach the top strip with the canvas using screws.
  2. Then glue the side guides (usually with an adhesive backing) onto the sash vertically.
  3. Unfold the canvas, adjust the boundaries of the upper and lower positions of the canvas.
  4. Install all accessories.

Helpful advice!

Blinds have a clear geometric shape, so carefully measure and calculate the attachment points to avoid asymmetry and unnecessary holes.

How to attach blinds to plastic windows

What should you do if you need to attach blinds to the sash, but you cannot drill plastic windows? In this case, you can install the blinds using brackets. The devices are attached to the frame, and mounted on them Basic structure blinds. Attach the bracket to window frame you can use:

  • double-sided tape;
  • hook onto the upper part of the opening sash frame.

This method will allow you to securely fix the product and preserve the integrity of the metal-plastic profile.

To correctly install blinds with your own hands, it is important:

  • decide on the type of blinds you want to purchase;
  • choose best option installations;
  • take measurements of the window, take into account the necessary margin;
  • When installing, strictly observe the dimensions of the product;
  • carefully mark the drilling points;
  • Follow the instructions included in the kit.

How to take measurements

How to install blinds

Use dowels and screws that match the fasteners and the material of the walls or ceiling to which the blinds will be attached.

Note!

Before installing the fastenings, check that the folded blinds do not interfere with the opening of the window.

We advise you to carefully look to see if there will be window handles, flower pots(and other “foreign” objects on the window sills) interfere with the opening and closing of the blinds and the rotation of the slats (window sill, radiators, etc.)

How to install horizontal blinds

  1. Measure the same distance from each edge of the window.
  2. Drill into the wall and insert a dowel corresponding to the wall material (concrete, plaster, etc.), then screw the fastener into place with screws.
  3. Using a level and ruler, mark the location of the second fastener. Screw the second fastener in the same way as the first.
  4. When installing horizontal blinds, it is necessary to use an additional intermediate fastening if the width of the blinds exceeds a certain distance. To attach vertical blinds with a width of more than 1.6 m to the ceiling, it is necessary to install 3 mounting brackets.
  5. Place the additional fastener at a distance of 10 cm from the control cord (this is where the blind mechanism experiences the greatest load).
  6. Attach the blinds to the brackets

Cutting horizontal blinds to width

  1. Lay the folded blinds on a horizontal surface and measure the part that needs to be cut on each side. It is necessary to cut off equal parts of the blinds on the left and right.
  2. Cut the cornice and rail. Don't forget to cover the slats to avoid damaging them.

Cutting blinds to height:

  1. Remove the parts that are located under the lower curtain rod at the bottom of the blinds so as to release the cord.
  2. Untie the knots to release the slats.
  3. Remove excess slats to achieve the required height of the blinds.
  4. Align the blinds by inserting the bottom curtain rod into the last link.
  5. Cut off the loose ends of the cord, tie knots and replace the bottom curtain rod pieces.

Cutting roller blinds

  1. Using a hacksaw, cut off the pipe and bottom cornice.
  2. Cut the fabric with scissors. If the curtains have a pattern on them, you need to cut equal parts of the curtains on the left and right.
  3. Installation of roller blinds on the tube is carried out using double-sided tape located on it. (Be careful not to open the curtains all the way; always leave a little fabric on the tube).

Cutting vertical blinds

Cutting the control rail of vertical blinds.

The slats are easy to cut and install. Cut the slats to the desired height with scissors, following the instructions on the package. Cut the control rail using a hacksaw.

When choosing the material for blinds, you must take into account the room in which they will hang. Plastic blinds are best suited for the bathroom and kitchen - they are not afraid of moisture and are easy to clean. For the kitchen, we can also recommend aluminum blinds that do not support combustion.

Why are blinds needed?

Their main characteristics are: the ability to easily attach to windows, ease of use and excellent performance of their main function - regulating the light in the room. At permanent job It is also impossible to work at the computer without using blinds.

The only question in this matter is to understand how you can hang blinds on plastic windows in order to get the maximum effect from their use.

Step-by-step instructions for installing blinds

Determining the size

So, the first step is to purchase blinds of the chosen manufacturer, the appropriate size and other individual characteristics. It should be noted that before you go shopping, you must determine the size of the glass: taking this value into account, you need to know that the blinds must completely cover the glass (widthwise), slightly extending beyond the frame.

Unpacking

After purchasing, the first step is to unpack and untangle the cord, and also examine the fasteners.

From what is included in the package, you can set aside the dowels, because in this case the blinds will be attached directly to the window.

Deciding on fasteners

We find a mount for which we will attach our blinds. The second step in installing blinds is to find two metal brackets with latches. This will be required in order to subsequently secure the container with “blinds” on them.

We make markings and install fastening brackets

The next step is marking. To perform it correctly, first of all, you must carefully read the instructions. After all, you need to place the fastening brackets in such a way that it is easy to insert the container into them.

In other words, you need to find optimal distance from the end of the marking. An important point at this step is the complete exclusion of amateur performances: everything on the window should be drawn with a pencil according to the level, but not by eye.

Otherwise, the curvature of the landing will immediately catch your eye when the plates rise, and this does not look very aesthetically pleasing. It is also necessary to pay attention to the fact that the slats do not move beyond the glass, since if there is a movement, the adjustment of the container will be disrupted.

Helpful advice!

The brackets must be secured with the latches facing upwards. However, before doing this, you must drill the window with a (thin) drill, and then point the screws towards the plastic.

If everything is done carefully, then nothing terrible will happen to the window, because the remaining drilled holes can be removed using acrylic sealant. However, if you perform this step carefully and carefully, they will not exist at all.

We put on the container

Then the container is put on. We cover the latches and determine the correct fit. If the brackets are firmly located on the window, and the container can be easily removed or put on, it must be said that the work was done “excellently”. However, it is not yet fully completed.

The last thing left is to install the lower holders. Their role is to fix the sheet of slats and secure it to protect it from free movement. When lifting, the lower edge of the canvas must be removed from the holders by hand.

Installing the lower fasteners

In order to mark the lower holders, you need to lower the canvas down. Then you need to estimate by eye their position in the case of a tightly stretched fabric.

With a dangling canvas, it is impossible to accurately measure the lower holders. After taking the correct measurements, be sure to drill the holes and screw the holder with screws.

Attaching the holders

At this stage, the question begins to worry: how should the holder be rotated - outward or inward?

The answer is quite simple: both when screwing inward and outward, the result remains the same; in any case, no screws remain visible. Therefore, here you already need to rely on your convenience and principles.

This concludes the process of attaching blinds to the window.

If you purchased or ordered vertical or horizontal blinds, then we suggest you install them yourself, because you can cope with this task even without experience, the main thing is to have the desire, 1 hour of free time and several tools.

Attention! Installing blinds does not require special skills, but keep in mind that any damage that occurs during the process independent work, will exclude the possibility warranty repair, exchange/return of curtains.

Depending on the type of curtains, your preferences and conditions, blinds are installed:

  • In the window opening;
  • On the wall;
  • To the ceiling;
  • On the window itself.

We made 3 step by step instructions and a selection useful videos, with which you can mount horizontal and vertical blinds any kind in any way.

To install horizontal blinds on a wall or to the ceiling, as well as to install vertical blinds above a window, you need to prepare:

  1. Electric drill with concrete drill 6-8 mm;
  2. Self-tapping screws and dowels 6-8 mm;
  3. Tape measure or ruler and level;
  4. Pencil;
  5. Phillips screwdriver or screwdriver;
  6. If it is necessary to shorten and cut curtains to width: a hacksaw, scissors, threads, needles.

Instructions for installing horizontal blinds on the wall/ceiling

To correctly install blinds to a wall or ceiling, you need to perform the following steps.

Step 1. Check the complete set of curtains and lay out all the parts on the work surface.

Make sure that the curtain kit includes: universal fasteners for blinds 2 pcs. (or standard brackets), screws, the blinds themselves assembled form. If you are installing blinds more than 2 m wide, then the set of fasteners should also include an intermediate fastener, which will fix the curtain in the middle, preventing it from sagging.

Step 2. We attach the curtains to the wall/ceiling, determine the exact location of their installation and mark the left and right edges of the curtain rod using a tape measure and level. Next, from each mark (towards the sides from the center) we make an indent of 2-3 cm and also put marks - these are places for installing fasteners-brackets.

Step 3. Now we apply the right and left fasteners to these marks and mark the exact drilling locations directly along the screw holes. We drill these marks with a drill. The drilling depth should be 3-4 cm.

Step 5. If you are installing blinds more than 2 m wide, then at this stage you need to install intermediate fasteners. To do this, mark the middle between the already installed fasteners and repeat the steps from steps 3 and 4.

Tip: to ensure reliable installation of heavy aluminum, bamboo and wooden curtains, intermediate fasteners are installed 10 cm from the adjusting thread, since this place bears a large load.

Step 6. Insert and close the top cornice of the blinds into the bracket locks. If these are standard brackets, then the cornice is simply screwed to them with screws.

Instructions for installing horizontal blinds in a window opening

To install horizontal blinds in a window opening, you need to do the following work.

Make sure that the blinds are supplied with: fasteners for blinds (brackets) 2 pcs., screws, the blinds themselves in assembled form.

Step 2. We try on the curtains to the desired place in the window niche and check whether the blinds interfere with opening.

Step 3. Now we apply the right and left fasteners to the upper inner plane of the window niche, stepping back from its walls 2-3 cm towards the center, then make marks in the locations of the fastener holes. This way you will have 2 marks on the right and 2 marks on the left.

Step 4. Now we drill holes along these marks with a drill. The drilling depth should be 3-4 cm.

Step 5. We screw the right and left fasteners (in accordance with the sides and marks) to the upper plane of the window opening using self-tapping screws.

Step 6. Insert and close the top curtain rod into the bracket locks by simply turning and/or pressing the lever clockwise. If you use regular brackets for fastening, then the blind cornice is simply screwed on.

Instructions for installing vertical blinds to the ceiling/wall and in the window opening

Installing vertical blinds with your own hands involves the following steps:

Step 1. Check the package and lay out all the parts on the work surface.

The set of vertical blinds includes: fasteners for blinds (brackets) 2 pcs., screws, cornice, curtains themselves in disassembled form (slats with weights, lower connecting chain).

Step 2. Before installing the blinds, you need to make sure that their length suits you. To do this, attach one lamella to the desired location on the ceiling/wall/top plane of the window opening. If the distance from the bottom of the curtains to the window sill or floor is less than 1-2 cm, then it is better to shorten the slats. You can do this yourself: take out the weights, cut off the excess and hem the edges back.

Step 3. Now you need to attach the cornice to the ceiling/wall of the window opening, align and mark its right and left ends.

Then we do the following:

  • If you are installing vertical blinds to the ceiling, then from the previously placed marks we make an indent of 2-3 cm towards the center and put the marks again;
  • If you want to install blinds to the wall, then from the previously placed marks we make an indent of 5-6 cm towards the center and also place marks.

If you are installing curtains in a window opening, then you do not need to mark the ends of the cornice; you just need to make marks, stepping back from the walls of the opening 2-3 cm towards the center.

Next, we apply fasteners for the blinds to these marks and mark the drilling locations. This way you will have 2 marks on the right and 2 marks on the left. Be sure to apply fasteners to match the sides.

Note: to install curtains with a width of more than 1.6 m, you need to additionally install an intermediate fastener 10 cm from the adjusting cord.

Step 4. Now we drill holes along these marks with a drill. The drilling depth should be 4-5 cm.

Step 5. Screw the right and left fasteners (in accordance with the sides and marks) to the ceiling/wall with self-tapping screws.

Step 6. Insert and close the blind curtain rod into the fastener locks by turning and/or pressing the lever clockwise. If you use regular brackets for fastening, then the cornice is simply screwed to them.

Step 7. By adjusting the cord, we turn the runners so that they unfold across the cornice (as shown below in the left photo) and proceed to attach the slats, simply snapping them into the grooves of the runners.

Step 8. Attach the bottom chain to the lamella weights, first from their outer side, then cut off the excess and do the same with reverse side lamellas, and then with the second part of the lamellas. Well, that’s all, the installation of vertical blinds is complete, all that remains is to check the operation of the mechanism and adjust the position of the slats.

Below is a video instruction on how to properly install vertical blinds to the wall with your own hands.

For a long time, blinds have been used as analogues of curtains and every year they become more and more in demand: practical, comfortable, functional, they are perfect for any type of window openings. However, even the most budget options Such devices can make a significant hole in the budget. Therefore, many people figure out how to make window blinds themselves. A wide variety of materials are used for this - wood, paper, fabric and cardboard.

In any home you can find remnants of wallpaper after renovation, or even a whole roll that was not used. If there are several options for panels, it is better to choose one copy that you like best in color and texture. However, preference should be given to thinner samples, for example, wallpaper with paint. They are easier to process and transmit sunlight well.

First you need to take measurements. Then you need to cut off a part of the wallpaper that is twice the size of the opening and fold it neatly like an accordion. The smoother the folds, the better the result will be in the end.

Paper blinds

Then, using an awl, a thick needle or a large hole punch, you need to make a hole in the middle of the “accordion” (it should be folded, not unfolded). It is best to seal the holes along the edges with tape for greater strength.

Next is gluing double-sided tape to the topmost bar from the inside out. This will be where the blinds are attached. First you need to thread the rope or ribbon through the holes from bottom to top. Where double-sided tape is attached, the rope should be secured with adhesive tape. And from the opposite end the cord must be threaded into the lock.

Now you need to open the adhesive strip of double-sided tape and attach the resulting structure to its rightful place on the window. Homemade blinds wallpapers look great on windows country houses, are perfect for a small veranda and will protect the room being renovated.

Fabric curtains

Thick fabric is an ideal material for making roller blinds. It is better if the canvas is in harmony with the general atmosphere of the room and includes the colors of the decor.

Careful execution will allow us to produce samples that are not inferior in quality and appearance to store-bought counterparts.

Bright fabric roller blinds

For work you will need:

  • a selected piece of fabric of your favorite color;
  • lace, ribbon or ribbon;
  • wooden blocks with a cross section of 2.5 centimeters;
  • large stapler;
  • several screws;
  • strong threads;
  • scissors.

Just as with wallpaper, the workflow begins with measuring the window opening. You will need two cuts, the length of which is equal to the window opening + 12 centimeters for reserve. The width corresponds to the window with an allowance of 2 centimeters for future seams.

Both parts are carefully folded with the right side inward, then stitched around the perimeter, with the exception of one side. The result is a kind of bag, which is turned inside out and sewn up to the end, and the fabric itself is carefully smoothed out.

The next step is the use of wooden blocks. The resulting curtain is laid out on a flat surface, the narrow parts where the top/bottom are determined, and then a block is laid on the selected upper half, making an indent of 5 cm from the edge of the canvas. The block itself should be two centimeters shorter than the fabric bag, that is, on both sides “ hide" in the fabric by 1 cm.

The block is wrapped in fabric and the structure is fixed with a stapler. The second part is designed to evenly tension the fabric during use. It must be sewn into the bottom of future curtains. For this purpose, the edge of the lower panel is folded 3 cm, stitched, resulting in a “pocket” into which the second wooden block will be inserted (you can also use a round strip).

Then we select the laces needed to assemble the product. Narrow ribbons and strips of fabric are perfect for garters. The length should be twice the height of the window, plus another 30 cm allowance. The lace is fixed with inside the canvas is near the bars with a stapler, then it is pulled to the bottom bar and tied.

The lower slats can be connected with a chain

The last step is to place the resulting structure on the window: to do this, vertically located roller blinds are applied inside out to the frame and fixed with self-tapping screws. Bar at the top.

Wooden curtains from slats

Those who do not like cardboard and fabric options can use wooden slats/planks. Despite the massive appearance of the product, the manufacturing process is quite simple, and the end result fits perfectly into any interior.

Wooden blinds

To do this you will need strong thread, wooden strips, a drill, self-tapping screws, stain and varnish.

The length of the planks must match the width of the opening, width – 4 cm, thickness – 3–5 mm. To correctly calculate the number of slats, you need to divide the height of the window by the width of one wooden element.

First, all slats are sanded, after which stain is applied and finally varnished. This will give the product an attractive appearance. Then, in each individual plank, three holes are made using a drill: two outer ones and one in the middle.

Strong threads are needed in three pieces: the longest is equal to twice the height of the window, and the remaining ones are equal to the height of the opening + 20 cm. The large thread is threaded into the hole in the middle, the other two along the edges.

The installation process goes like this:

First, the first strip is fixed at the very top of the window opening.

  1. Threads are threaded through the holes and strong large knots are tied on them.
  2. The next bar is put on threads 3.5 cm from the previous one.
  3. Tie the same knots and proceed to the next rail.

In this way, putting the strips on threads and fixing them with knots, the entire fabric is assembled. The threads located on the sides are secured in the upper area of the window, and the long middle ribbon is fixed in a free position so that it moves easily and opens the opening.

Wooden curtains can be decorated by applying various images. For example, make the slats multi-colored or come up with any interesting design (hieroglyphs, flowers, images of animals or abstraction).

Measurements

Modern designs are quite easy to install at home or in the office, however, to ensure that the blinds fit perfectly, many companies offer the services of professional measurers. A properly selected device will look better and work longer. However, it is quite possible to do this work yourself if you know how to measure blinds for plastic windows.

The first step is to decide on a specific type of blinds: roller or cassette, vertical or horizontal, or maybe pleated? This important point, since for each type of window drapery the installation process is slightly different.

Measurements for horizontal products

There are three options for attaching horizontal curtains:

  • on the doors;
  • on the wall;
  • in the doorway.

Parameters of vertical products

Vertical curtains can also be attached to the ceiling, wall or opening:

Taking measurements for the manufacture of roller blinds

Roller blinds are installed directly on the wall or in the window opening:

Measurement for cassette roller blinds

They are installed on the window frame. First, the distance between the beads is measured, which is equal to the width of the product. And then - the height of the window along the edges of the glazing beads with an allowance of 2 cm. It is better to take several measurements in different points window and select the smallest values among the received numbers.

If you wish and have time, in just a few hours of work you can create full-fledged blinds for plastic windows with your own hands from wallpaper, cardboard, wood or fabric.
