Frame decor: secrets of magical transformation with your own hands (50 photos). How to make photo frames To give a frame

A photo frame may be the most valuable design element of a photo. Self-production Frames are a great way to personalize your home decor and create a photo frame that perfectly matches your image. If you want to know how you can make your own photo frame, read the steps below.

Steps

Making passe-partout

    Measure the passe-partout. The passe-partout is made from plain paper or cardboard and frames the image inside the frame. A photo frame with a mat looks more professional and finished. There is also an emphasis on photography. Before you start measuring the material from which you will make the mat, you should decide how wide you want to make it.

    • A good option is to use about ¼ - ⅓ the size of the short side of the photo.
  1. Measure the image. After deciding on the width of the mat, measure the image itself. Double the intended width of the mat and add it to the length and width of the photo. The result will be the final size of the outer borders of the mat, which will need to be prepared.

    • The internal borders should be the same size as the photo or slightly smaller.
  2. Cut out the outer borders of the mat. Once you transfer your measurements onto the mat material, you can cut it out. Passepartout from thinner materials (paper or thin cardboard) can be cut with a paper knife or scissors. Passepartouts made from thicker materials can also be cut in the same way, but they will look neater if you use a special cutter.

    • Cut out the outer borders. Cut out the outer borders of the mat to size.
    • You will need to mark these boundaries using a ruler and pencil so you know where to cut.
    • When drawing boundaries, you should use a corner so that the corners are strictly straight.
  3. Cut out the inner borders of the mat. They should match the size of the photo or be slightly smaller. On the wrong side of the mat, outline the contours of the image. Subtract from them the few mm that you want the mat to overlap the photo. Cut out the inner borders.

  4. Place the image on the passe-partout. Place the mat face down. Place the photo strictly in the center (also face down). Glue the top two corners of the photo to the mat with vertical pieces of tape, and then overlap the vertical pieces of tape with horizontal ones (one edge should be on the mat, and the other on the photo).

    • Now the photo will be fixed on the mat and will have enough flexibility so as not to bend or wrinkle.

    Making a frame

    1. Select materials. You will be able to choose materials that not only meet your needs and design, but also have high quality and suitable for the image itself. Exist different kinds wood, glue, metal, nails; and you need to carefully select them so that in the end you get everything perfect. Here is some information about the materials:

      • Wood shape for frame. The shape of wood used in a frame largely depends on your preferences and the purpose of the frame. It can be molded and carved or simple. Molded frames add more complexity to the finished image and are good for large images. Simple frames give the image a neat and simple design; They work best with small images or art nouveau designs.
      • Type of tree. You need to decide what type of wood you will use. Many types of trees are suitable for this purpose, especially hard ones, so the decision may simply be based on your preference for appearance. It is best to use the same type of wood from which other interior objects in the room are made. Thanks to this, the frame will fit perfectly into the existing environment.
      • Metal. If you want to make a frame out of metal instead of wood, you will need to follow the same process as making a wood frame, but use circular saw With diamond coating to cut metal. The frame will have to be connected with corners and metal screws, having previously marked holes for the bottom with a drill.
      • Glue. It is best to use wood glue. Other types of glue can be used if wood glue is simply impossible to get. Wood glue is usually inexpensive and can be easily found in hardware stores.
      • Nails. The use of nails in making a frame depends on its size. Large solid frames require thicker and longer nails. Choose the right size nails to ensure your frame stays strong and doesn't fall apart.
    2. Determine the dimensions of the frame. Measure the outer edges of the mat. They will appear internal dimensions framework. To calculate the external dimensions of the frame you should use the formula: L = E + (2 x C) + (2 x W).

      • L is the length of the piece of wood being cut. E – length or width of the mat. C – the gap between the mat and the frame (if necessary), usually about 1-1.5 mm. W is the width of the material itself for making the frame.
    3. Cut out the frame pieces. Cut out the frame parts according to the formula given. You will need two pieces for longitudinal and transverse sections. Remember the rule: “Measure twice, cut once.” It is very important to be precise. Since any mistake will lead to the frame being crooked or the tree not coming together at all.

      • After the initial cutting, you will need to cut the ends of the bars at an angle so they can be folded into the frame (the outer edges will be long and the inner edges will be short).
      • You can use a saw set at 45 degrees, or you can mark the corners by hand and cut them with a regular saw (though the second method produces somewhat less neat results and is not recommended).
    4. Do it by inside chamfered from the inside of the frame. This is a recess for fixing glass in it. The recess can be carefully created using a chisel, or by placing another thin frame with slightly larger inner edges on top of your frame.

      • The second frame should be longer and wider to hold the glass, which should not fall out through the main frame.
      • The chamfer must be deep enough to accommodate the glass and be able to secure all materials that will be inserted into the frame with nails.
    5. Paint the frame (optional). You may want to make the frame more in keeping with the decor of the room where it will hang, or you may want to add an accent aspect to the photo that will be placed in the frame. Before you insert glass and other materials into the frame, you can tint the wood. The choice of color is entirely at your discretion. Here's how you can paint or tint a frame to give it a special touch:

      • Painting. If you decide to paint the frame, then you need to use wood paint. Paints on latex based give a smoother and shinier result. You can paint the frame one color or put a design on it. For a smooth finish, apply the paint in long strokes and paint the frame in several layers of paint.
      • Toning. There are special stains for tinting wood that come in different colors. Try to choose a stain that will give you a color that is close to the color of the rest of the wood in the room. It's best to test it on scrap wood first to get an idea of how many coats you'll need to apply and how the stain will adhere to the wood you're using. It is better to tint the wood before assembling the frame. Thanks to this, the stain will lie on the wood more evenly. Apply the stain with a specially designed brush for a more professional-looking result. After the stain has dried, the wood can be varnished to give it shine.
    6. Assemble the frame. Assemble the frame like a puzzle to form a rectangle. Make small adjustments as necessary, but remember that changing the angles too much can result in an uneven frame. Here's how to do it:

      • First, glue the frame parts together using good holding fasteners and corners. You need to ensure that the frame is glued together correctly.
      • After the glue has dried, carefully drive a nail into each corner of the frame, fastening two parts together for security. The nails should go into one piece of the frame and reach the second. At the same time, they should pass through the center of each part as much as possible. Also, when driving them in, the perpendicular to the line of alignment of the two parts must be observed.
      • Use wood putty to mask any holes that appear.

The long-awaited moment has arrived - the embroidery has been removed. It is ready: washed, smoothed, ironed. There's only one small thing left to do - the design of the embroidery. How gem requires cutting, and the creation of your hands will sparkle in full beauty only when the embroidery is framed in a worthy frame.

Of course, frames for embroidery can be ordered from a framing workshop or bought in a store, but it is still much more interesting, and it will look truly original in a designer frame - a frame that is made by yourself. After all, who else but you knows what kind of frame will make your embroidery a real decoration of any home, becoming a worthy crown of many days of embroidery.

The easiest way to decorate embroidery is with an embroidery frame. Yes, yes, there is no mistake here - plastic hoops of round, oval, square, rectangular shapes, with the help of which you performed inspired embroidery, turning simple threads and canvas into a work of art - a wonderful frame for small embroidery. They hold the canvas tightly (which we have repeatedly seen in the embroidery process), do not deform or deform the finished work, and are easily transformed into original frame V .

So what you need:

  • hoop;
  • embroidery;
  • scissors;
  • needle with thread;
  • pins;
  • fabric/canvas.

First you need to insert thin fabric into the hoop, with embroidery on top (only embroidery is possible). We measure 1.5-2 cm from the outer edge of the frame and cut off the outline of the finished work at this distance. Then we run a running stitch along the edge of the canvas and tighten it with thread so that it ends up on the wrong side of the frame. In order for the reverse to have a neat appearance, we mask it. On a piece of fabric selected according to the color of the embroidery (or on a canvas), cut out the shape of the frame, but not exactly to size, but with an allowance of 1.5-2 cm. Pin the edges of the fabric to the wrong side, tucking them in, and then carefully sew them on with a blind stitch . That's it - your embroidery frame has become an embroidery frame. To add glamor to the frame, it can additionally be decorated with beads or rhinestones, which are easily glued to the plastic using Moment glue or PVA.

A win-win classic

Embroidery is not only a fascinating process, but also, upon completion, a wonderful gift. But how to arrange it? Everything is very simple - a cross-stitched landscape looks wonderful in a mat made from a wide variety of materials, for example, floral felt, fabric.

Let us remind you that this is a small, usually thin frame located under the baguette. It seems to outline the embroidery, adding depth and expressiveness to it.

Another attractive aspect of the mat is that it prevents the embroidery from touching the glass. And this is sometimes very important for the correct perception of an embroidered picture.

Making embroidery into a baguette just sounds complicated and expensive. If desired, you can make it yourself using a minimum of material. For example, a boring photo frame of a suitable size, reviving its beauty and functionality.

To work we will need:

  • embroidery;
  • Frame;
  • transparent glue “Moment”/double-sided tape;
  • pencil, ruler;
  • white sheet of paper;
  • scissors;
  • floral felt/fabric.

Let's disassemble the photo frame. We attach the embroidery to its cardboard part, only slightly cutting the canvas. This can be done using double-sided tape or transparent glue. In both cases, only the border of the ironed embroidery canvas is tightly attached to the cardboard.

To do this, cut out a frame from thick white paper to the size of the embroidery. We also cut out frames from the fabric or floral felt we like, but a little larger than the paper one - by 1.5-2 cm. We tightly glue the fabric or felt frame onto the paper one. Carefully bend the indentations we made inward (under the paper). This is the passport, which we glue onto a cardboard base with our cross stitch and insert under the baguette.

All that remains to be done is to put glass on top and insert the embroidery into the photo frame. By the way, to make the frame glossy, it can be varnished and decorated with beads.

And one more thing, if you are working with floral felt, it is better to use several layers of it, since it is very thin. In addition, multi-layering will give a special voluminous effect. As for the choice of color, in the classic version it should either match the color of the frame, or be a little lighter than it; or harmonize with the dominant color of the embroidery (differences in two tones are also welcome). But you can reject all the rules and make its color rich: bright yellow for embroidery in greenish pastel colors, bright green for golden-flowing embroidery color... This will emphasize the tenderness of the embroidered picture, and your skillful embroidery will definitely deserve the highest words of praise .

If working with thick white paper, fabric, or felt seems too tedious to you, a passe-partout can also be made using bright cardboard or velvet paper. In this case, you will only need to cut out the frame of the required size and glue it onto a cardboard base with embroidery.

Openwork frame

I want to decorate small embroidery with satin stitch, beads, cross stitch with a variety of images in something special. Interesting option- openwork frames. You can also make them yourself using available materials.

Required material:

  • embroidery;
  • packaging cardboard;
  • paper dessert lace napkin;
  • glue stick and PVA glue;
  • scissors, knife (preferably stationery);
  • acrylic lacquer;
  • satin ribbon;
  • compass;
  • sponge;
  • needle;
  • paper (or newspaper sheet);
  • dye.

Draw a circle on cardboard that is a little larger than a lace dessert napkin. In order to cut the circle efficiently (it is hollow inside, so it can be deformed when cutting), we pierce holes along the entire circumference with a regular sewing needle. Using a sharp knife, cut out the circle pierced with a needle.

Inside the circle we outline a shape, a little more than embroidery. Cover the circle within a circle with paper, securing it with pins. We prime the entire remaining part with a sponge - a mixture of glue and acrylic (preferably white). The painted surface can be dried with a hairdryer - this is faster.
We place the lace dessert napkin with its front surface on the primed circle (it is better to secure it with pins so that it does not move while working). Using a sponge, apply the paint over the napkin - lightly dabbing. We try to immediately remove excess paint onto fabric or paper, otherwise the napkin will get wet and the design will float.

We carefully remove the napkin, and dry the resulting lacy-lace print for about three hours and you’re done.

Remove the covered part of the circle and tightly attach the embroidery to it using glue or double-sided tape (along the edges!). We put our workpiece under the press. After an hour or two, carefully outline the embroidery acrylic paint(within the boundaries of the previously outlined circle within a circle).
We decorate the end surface of the circle with a satin ribbon - preferably a narrow one. To do this, you need to either pull it tightly or gather it together, carefully securing it with pins (the balls at the end of the pin should match the color of the ribbon).

A loop on the back of the cardboard circle can also be made using satin ribbon and pins.

We apply acrylic varnish to the frame - it is better if it is varnish from a can (at this time it is better to cover the embroidery with a sheet of paper and a newspaper page). Once the frame is dry, the embroidered picture can be hung in the chosen place.

From box to frame

A small embroidered painting in a massive three-dimensional frame looks incredibly touching. You can also make it yourself. And with minimal costs for the home budget - from a box of just eaten chocolates.

We will need:

  • small size embroidery;
  • candy box;
  • ruler;
  • pencil;
  • knife (preferably stationery);
  • Double-sided tape;
  • paper (white or colored - your choice);
  • paints or beads, or palettes, or rhinestones, for decoration;
  • glue.

We measure our completed embroidery with a ruler (do not count the tolerances on the canvas, only the drawing itself!). On the top cover of the box, mark the place of embroidery with a pencil. We transfer its dimensions to the box. Cut out the “window” outlined in pencil and insert the embroidery into it. We secure the embroidery tightly with reverse side boxes with tape. We cover it on top with a white sheet of paper, which we glue to our base along the edges.

We cover the bottom of the box with a white or colored sheet of paper - your choice.

We close the box. Upper part We cover the boxes with embroidery in the window with paper. We decorate it as our imagination tells us: we completely paint it over, draw patterns, decorate it with transparent glue with beads, palettes, large or small rhinestones, and sparkles. You can add a special charm to our embroidery using confetti or, say, pictures and letters cut out from postcards. Or, instead of paper, use self-adhesive film of your favorite shade.

The volumetric frame is ready. All that remains is to hang it on the wall. This can be done using double-sided tape. Or make a loop on the back of the frame. To do this, you just need to cut a small hole for the nail using the same stationery knife.

Vintage frame made from ceiling plinth

For original design ready-made embroidery there is an easy, affordable technology for making frames without glass - from ceiling plinths made of polystyrene foam. Any will do: narrow, wide, convex and flat - whatever is left over after a renovation or catches your eye at a hardware store.

Required material:

  • finished embroidery;
  • ceiling plinth;
  • thick cardboard;
  • paint (preferably gouache);
  • brush;
  • knife (preferably stationery);
  • PVA glue or “Super-Moment”;
  • nylon thread.

We measure out the required dimensions on a sheet of cardboard: embroidery plus width ceiling plinth. We mark the place of embroidery on it. We attach the embroidery to the marked area of the cardboard (at the edges - with glue or double-sided tape).

We mark the middle of the cardboard blank above the top of the embroidery. We draw equal sections from it (from 2 to 5 cm long) - we make holes and thread a nylon thread through them. It must be thick to support the weight of the frame with the embroidered picture.

We use a knife to divide the foam ceiling plinth into four parts corresponding to the future frame, parts at an angle of 45 degrees. We paint their front part with gouache. It is better to apply several layers. The unevenness of the application should not scare you; it will only give the frame a vintage look, a kind of antiquity. When the paint dries, coat it with varnish. Read the instructions for the varnish carefully; drying time may take up to a day.

Glue the baseboard to the cardboard. If you get wide noticeable gaps in the corners of the frame, don’t worry. They can be easily removed by cutting thin strips of foam from the remnants of the baseboard. We paint these pieces in the same color, also varnish them, and glue them into the gap. The flaws will immediately disappear, and the frame of your embroidery can easily be mistaken for the work of an expensive craftsman specializing in the design of paintings. Only those who saw how you did it will guess that it was made with your own hands.

All photos from the article

For centuries, paintings and other similar works of art have been enclosed in special frames, giving the composition a certain completeness and emphasizing it against the background general interior. But sometimes it can be quite expensive to purchase ready product for each sample of artistic painting or photograph.

In this case, you can easily make the necessary design yourself, which will be discussed in this article.

Workflow Description

A description of how to make a baguette frame at home can be divided into several stages, half of which relate to preparatory work:

Stage No. 1: selection of material

Before you make a frame from a baguette with your own hands, you need to buy it. Finished fillets, as a rule, can be made of three different materials:

Material pros Minuses
Styrofoam
  • Very low price;
  • The simplest processing instruction
  • Very low strength characteristics. Products can be damaged even by careless touch
Plastic
  • Possibility of simulating expensive ones;
  • High moisture resistance
  • Artificial origin
Tree
  • Stunningly beautiful appearance;
  • High resistance to mechanical stress;
  • Environmentally friendly, contributing to the formation of a favorable indoor microclimate
  • Fairly high cost;
  • Hydrophobicity

Tip: if you are making a frame for the first time, it makes sense to use foam as a training material. Then in case of failure your family budget practically no harm.

As you can see, you can choose economical options, but do not forget that the main purpose of the frame is to decorate the framed composition, and with this task the best way wood will handle it. Let’s take it as an example for further consideration.

In addition to the selected fillet, purchase immediately and suitable paint or varnish for decorative design finished frame, which will also perform a protective function.

Stage No. 2: preparing tools

Also, before making a frame from a baguette, make sure you have the following supplies on hand:

Stage No. 3: creating a frame

Now let’s directly look at how to make baguette frames:

  1. We use a tape measure to measure the size of the painting or photograph that is planned to be included in the decorative design;

  1. We put the results obtained on a baguette;
  2. We cut the fillet using a hacksaw, taking into account that the postponed sections are internal part future frame. In this case, it is necessary to make cuts at an angle of 45 degrees, so that all the fragments then fold into an even and neat rectangle. For this purpose, a miter box is used, which is a box without end walls with special slots for the saw to move;

  1. In factory conditions, special equipment helps to make stitching for baguette frames, but we will use wood glue and a flat surface. That is, we apply adhesive to the ends of all fragments and fold them into a rectangle, tightly connecting the corners. Then we leave the structure to dry;

Stage No. 4: final work

How to make baguette frames is now clear, but the whole process is not over yet:

  1. We take the selected paint or varnish and apply it with a brush to the resulting structure;

  1. After the paint coating has hardened, cut out a rectangle from thick cardboard along the outer contour of the product and glue or staple it on the back side;
  2. We put a photograph or painting inside;
  3. Then we insert the glass and carefully secure it with small nails.

Conclusion

As you can see, creating a frame from a baguette for a painting, photograph, embroidery or other artistic composition is not difficult. The main thing is to do everything carefully and carefully so that all sizes exactly match each other. In addition, the described method is not the only correct one; if you are smart, you can easily improve it by making your own additions or changes to the work described.

Every home has at least 1–2 photographs that you don’t want to keep in an album. It is advisable that they be constantly in sight, before your eyes. Some are dear to us as memories, while others we want to capture the imagination of those who come to our home. For example, how we bravely rode an elephant while in India, or jumped with a parachute, or fed sharks in the Red Sea - each of us has memorable photographs.

Photo frame made of wood or baguette

Therefore, photo frames are made different, from different material. You can make a wooden frame to place the photo on the table, or you can make it as a painting on the wall. By the way, with beautiful frames with magnificent photos you can decorate the entire wall of the room, making them an element general design. It is for these purposes that the widespread baguettes that cover the junction of the wall and ceiling are well suited. Baguette is used for picture frames, but is also perfect for photos. If you don’t have a baguette, you can, at worst, use a ceiling plinth) - but this is completely a budget option. These baguettes are made from soft material, cut well and evenly, glued together, and have an attractive appearance.

Depending on the size of the photo (and, therefore, required size frames) and a baguette is selected. Baguettes are sold in different widths, so you should choose it so that the frame you make with the photo “looks good.” To connect the pieces of baguette, they must be cut at an angle of 45 degrees. Smooth cuts can be obtained either with a hacksaw or by cutting with a sharp knife (a paper knife is well suited for these purposes). To glue pieces of baguette together (at an angle of 90 degrees), you can buy glue for attaching the ceiling plinth.

Don't worry if there are small gaps between the edges of the resulting frame. This is possible if the edges of the cut are not completely straight, or if the angle was chosen somewhat incorrectly. Such small cracks are well masked with white sealant. To give the frame an elegant appearance it can be painted with acrylic water-based emulsion, for example. If there are several such frames, they will perfectly decorate, for example, some niche.

Please note that glass cannot be inserted into such a frame. Therefore, you need to think about how to secure the photo so that it does not slide down or completely fall out of the frame. There are several options here. You can use small pins, which are used to fasten, for example, men's shirts when packing. Everyone has encountered many of these pins when unpacking a new shirt they just bought. You can make the frame a little less photos and paste the photo on the back side. But then you won’t be able to remove it. In principle, everyone will be able to determine for themselves how best to strengthen the photograph, if they wish.

Cardboard photo frame

If you only need one frame, you can make it from thick cardboard. Perfect fit shoe box- you will need both a lid and a bottom. A frame is cut to the size of the photo (taking into account stock). On the back side, sides and bottom, you need to glue thin strips of the same cardboard. It turns out to be a kind of “pedestal” onto which the back wall is glued.

The result is a kind of pocket into which the photograph will be inserted on top. To give a cardboard frame an attractive appearance, it can be covered with colored paper or fabric. There is no limit to imagination. You can also provide a “leg” for installing the frame on the table plane. Then, when cutting out the inside of the workpiece, a whole strip is left for the stand (from the top of the frame).
