Description: The textbook has been prepared in accordance with the requirements of the state educational standard higher vocational education and includes three sections: general theory of statistics, socio-economic statistics and enterprise statistics. The profession of an economist is exciting and challenging. Whatever specific field he works in, he needs to have a set of qualities such as:

  • deep knowledge of the fundamental principles of economic theory;
  • taste for searching non-standard solutions, developed intuition of an analyst, creative passion of a researcher, a subtle sense of inner vision of the unity of the diverse and contradictory surrounding world and hidden mechanisms for maintaining this unity;
  • perfect control modern tools and technologies for working with information, which is the fundamental basis for understanding the patterns of socio-economic relations, which is necessary for the effective management of social processes at the micro, meso and macro levels.
The ascent of an economist to professional mastery is a long, ever-increasingly complex, systematic process of learning and practical training. The basis of this process is the assimilation of knowledge contained in a wide range of scientific disciplines, the study of which is provided for in the training programs for highly qualified specialists at Russian universities.
Academic disciplines complement each other and, ultimately, the knowledge acquired by students forms the professional potential of an economist.
Statistics, the scientific and methodological foundations of which are outlined in this textbook, is one of the mandatory disciplines in the training of economists. It is statistics, along with accounting and computer science, that lays the foundations of theoretical knowledge and practical skills in working with information, without which it is impossible either to fully participate in the formation of databases and flows of numerical information, or to be a competent user of socio-economic information.
Statistics is a multidisciplinary science, and the list of specific knowledge in the field of statistics required by future and established specialists in various fields is also diverse.
Domestic market educational literature offers numerous and varied publications on statistical disciplines. This allows the reader to find the book that meets exactly his needs. Our textbook is addressed to those for whom it is important to obtain information on all the most significant
branches of statistical science. The material is presented in an accessible form, the mathematical and statistical apparatus is accompanied by examples of calculations. A significant part of the numerical examples is presented with actual data, which, as the authors hope, will increase cognitive value and facilitate the assimilation of educational material.
The textbook “Statistics” includes three sections: general theory of statistics; macroeconomic statistics; enterprise statistics. Each chapter ends with test tasks for self-control of the level of mastery of the topic. At the end of the textbook there is a glossary and a list of recommended readings.
The material is presented in an accessible form, the mathematical and statistical apparatus is accompanied by examples of calculations, based, as a rule, on actual data.
For students studying in economics and management (080100), graduate students and teachers economic universities. May be useful to managers of enterprises and organizations. Contents of the textbook

Economic statistics
Tutorial. Taganrog: TRTU Publishing House, 1999

The textbook covers the main sections of the course “Economic Statistics”. The first section examines the general theory of statistics, the second – the issue of applying statistics in specific studies of socio-economic processes. The manual is intended for students studying in specialties 060800, 061100, 061500.

This textbook is an electronic version of the work:
Chernova T.V. Economic statistics: Textbook. Taganrog: TRTU Publishing House, 1999. 140 p.

The “Statistics” course aims to give students an idea of the content of statistics as a scientific discipline, to introduce its basic concepts, methodology and methods for calculating the most important statistical analytical indicators. In accordance with this, this textbook covers the most general initial elements of statistical science, and above all the most important areas of analysis of socio-economic processes.

The first part of the course - “Theory of Statistics” - outlines the history of the development of statistics as a science, examines the main stages of statistical research (statistical observation, summary, grouping, calculation of general indicators), the index method of analysis, the basics of regression and correlation analysis.

The second part - “Statistics in applied research” - is devoted to the most important concepts and indicators of the analysis of socio-economic processes, including assessment of the main factors and level of economic development of the country, indicators of costs and results in the field of material production, methodology for calculating indicators of the standard of living of the population.

The textbook covers the main statistical methods collection, presentation, synthesis and analysis of mass data related to social or economic phenomena and processes. The problems of measuring socio-economic phenomena and forming a system of indicators (primarily used in the practice of international comparisons) are reflected. A system of indicators of statistics of national wealth, living standards of the population, financial market, output of goods and services and others is presented. The textbook is replete with numerous practical examples that increase the accessibility of the material being studied.

Graphic methods for presenting statistical information.
The tabular presentation of statistical information is basic and universal, since there are no restrictions on the volume of data and on the types of indicators presented, and the utmost compactness of the placement of numerical information is achieved. Graphical methods for presenting statistical data are additional tool, which, however, does not detract from their exceptional significance. The availability of computer graphics tools expands the possibilities of using graphic methods for presenting statistical information.

Compared to tables, graphs have a limited capacity - they can only represent individual elements from the summary indicator system. Therefore, for graphic images, only the most informative ones are selected from the system of indicators, in which the most important manifestations of the studied pattern are revealed. In addition, it should be taken into account that the benefits of the imaging method are not equal for different types indicators. The greatest clarity of graphic images is for dynamics series, distribution series, pairwise connections, structure characteristics, territorial location of objects or territorial differentiation of indicators.
