DIY fabric laundry organizer. How to make a laundry organizer with your own hands: step-by-step instructions with photos

Every housewife is familiar with the situation when, when opening a drawer with laundry, they find not neatly aligned piles of things, but complete chaos. This happens because of the delicate material from which underwear, socks and tights are made. The finest lace and the most delicate nylon do not hold their shape and flow not only over the body, but also over the chest of drawers, creating a mess there. Again and again you have to rearrange things, restoring order. A DIY laundry organizer can solve this problem.

This practical and elegant storage unit is like a genie that will keep all your things strictly in their places and not get mixed up.

Linen house made of cardboard

You can buy a ready-made laundry organizer in a store, but it’s much nicer and more creative to make one on our own. In addition, this is a less expensive way to obtain a case.

Boxes for storing linen can be textile or cardboard. This is an individual preference of each individual person.

A simple master class on making an organizer for underwear from cardboard will inspire you to create this storage unit.

To create the product we will need any boxes. It could be shoe packaging, household appliances or toys.

The size of the future linen chest depends on the place where it will be located. Based on this, we choose a suitable box or glue it ourselves.

Also for work you will need:

  1. Paper for decorating the box: old wallpaper, newspapers, pages of a music book, sheets from glossy magazines, colored paper;
  2. Long ruler. It is more convenient to use than a short-length tool;
  3. Brush and PVA glue;
  4. Stapler with staples;
  5. Simple pencil;
  6. A utility knife or sharp scissors.

Let's start tinkering. First, let's think about how many things will be stored in this box. The number of cells into which we will divide the organizer depends on this.

Based on the size of the cabinet where the linen chest will be stored, we determine the height of the box. Measure out what you need and trim off the excess with scissors.

Don't throw away the rest of the box. They are useful for making partitions. The lid will also serve this purpose. Optimal size cells - 7x7 cm or 8x8 cm. Guided by these data, we mark the box and cut out blanks for the walls.

We decorate the details at our discretion. A box covered with old newspaper clippings or sheets of music will look impressive. For a classic, simple design, you can choose plain wallpaper.

The inside of the box itself is glued to match the partitions. It is better to choose wear-resistant paper for decoration. A bright and contrasting design with several colors and paper textures will look interesting and unusual. It is better to start work from the sides and finish with the bottom.

We decorate the outer side of the organizer with scrap paper, fabric or thick packaging material. Small allowances and folds made from paper of a different quality and color look beautiful.

We assemble a grid from blanks for cells. To do this, we make cuts on the parts to the middle of the height and connect them as shown in the photo.

We insert the grille into the box and secure it with a stapler or glue. The product is ready!

The video will help answer the questions that arise when making a linen organizer with your own hands.

Ribbon organizer

If for some reason the storage for stockings and tights made from boxes turns out to be short-lived, you can make a more practical design - an organizer made of fabric.

The advantages of this product are that it is durable, takes up minimal space in the closet, is mobile and fits on any shelf.

To work, you need a strong, bright fabric for the base; lower density fabric of a different color for partitions; padding polyester; decorative edging.

Let's move on to step-by-step instructions. Cut out two rectangles. One is made of padding polyester, and the second is made of fabric for the base. Their dimensions should be smaller than the area of the box so that the future box does not wrinkle. We sew on the long storage partitions. To do this, rectangles of contrasting material are sewn onto the base. They are the same in length as the base, and twice as wide as the walls of the box. We sew the blanks in the middle, folding them so that the seam is on the inside. You will get a double partition.

Let's draw the wall based on the number of cells needed.

Sew the rectangles, indenting from the edge by 1.5 cm.

We sew transverse partitions from fabric folded in half. Turn out, iron.

We sew small pieces together.

We sew the sides for the future organizer and attach them to the product.

We decorate the top and ends of the finished box with braid.

The finished organizer can be used for its intended purpose.

Vertical organizer

What you need to make your own from fabric

To make a sock organizer with your own hands you will need following materials and tools:

  • cardboard boxes or large sheets of cardboard;
  • fabric (can be shreds);
  • glue, it is better to use a silicone gun;
  • wallpaper or sheets from magazines to decorate the organizer;
  • ruler and pencil to measure and mark everything exactly.

You can make your own organizer for tights from shoe box. Boxes from household appliances are also suitable. The main thing is to have a base in which the laundry compartments will then be installed.

The number and size of cells are prepared as desired. You can store one thing in each compartment, or arrange them by color. For example, white panties will be stored in one cell, black socks in the second, etc. For small children, it is better to put one thing in each cell, so that it is more convenient for the baby to take clean laundry on his own, without outside help.

How to sew a laundry organizer with your own hands from fabric

Instead of buying an organizer for tights, panties and bras, you can make it yourself. There are some advantages to this: firstly, you can build a structure of the desired size. Secondly, improvised means are used and there is no need to spend money. Third, homemade organizer You can decorate it as you wish, make it any color.

Fabric organizer

The laundry organizer (36×36×8 cm) is made as follows:

  1. First you need to make a drawing in order to correctly calculate the length of the stripes. For example, the organizer will have 8 cells 9x9 cm and 4 cells 8x18 cm (convenient for storing bras. Length general design will be 36 cm, due to which it will be convenient to place it in a drawer of a chest of drawers or a closet.
  2. When the project is drawn, it is easy to calculate how long the strips for the partitions should be. The first partition is attached from the corner to a square cell of 9x9 cm. This means that it should be 18 cm long, taking into account the allowance - 19 cm (0.5 cm on each side). In this way, all the partitions are calculated and the necessary strips are cut out of thick fabric (their width should correspond to the height of the box (in in this case 8 cm).
  3. Next, you need to cut the fabric into 4 pieces on the outer walls. 36x8 cm each, taking into account the allowance. And the fabric on the bottom according to the size of the overall design is 36×36 cm. Allowances of 1-1.5 cm on each side are sufficient.
  4. Next, you need to cut out the bottom and side walls from thick cardboard, which are inserted into the prepared side walls for density (or the cardboard is sheathed or covered with fabric - as is convenient for you).
  5. The strips for the partitions are sewn together and finished with bias tape.
  6. Then the side parts are sewn together, into which cardboard is immediately inserted as a seal and the bottom. You can make secret locks so that the cardboard can be removed and the cover washed.
  7. The last stage is connecting the structure to each other and decorating it. You can use lace, beads, bows, stickers - as much as your imagination allows.

Cardboard blanks

If you plan for the organizer to stand in a dresser drawer, you don’t have to decorate it on top, since it won’t be visible anyway. If it is installed in the bedroom or bathroom (that is, in plain sight), then it is better to make a box with a lid and decorate it so that it fits seamlessly into the interior.

You can make an organizer in another way, in which the frame is made from ready-made boxes. The craftsman’s job is to sheathe or paste it with fabric, assemble it into one structure and decorate it. In order not to waste time and effort on installing cardboard, you can use narrow boxes of milk, baby food or cereals (such as Hercules). If you don’t have these on hand, then you can take sheets of cardboard and make square or rectangular dividers yourself.

Preparing a fabric partition

How to sew a fabric laundry basket

A fabric laundry basket is placed in a closet or chest of drawers. To store dirty laundry, it can be installed or hung in the bathroom for ease of use.

Fabric basket

To make a basket, you will need to prepare the necessary tools and materials in advance:

  1. In order for the basket to keep its shape, it is better to use dense fabric, such as calico or flannel, because fabrics like satin are thin and the basket will be deformed.
  2. A ruler, soap, chalk, padding polyester, and needles for joining fabric will come in handy.
  3. The pattern is made square or round as desired. Depending on the pattern, then you need to measure the length and width of the fabric and cut out the blanks.

The basket can be soft and shapeless or dense. To keep it in shape, you need to use a thick bottom or sew several metal rings into it (for a round basket). For square structures, you can use rods that are sewn into the corners and allow you to keep their shape, especially if the basket is high.

This design can be used to store dirty linen before washing, clean linen before ironing, to store towels or bedding sets, or for children's toys.

The simplest version of the basket is based on a ready-made cardboard box. You need to select a basket or box of the required size, measure it, cut out the sides and bottom and glue them to the finished frame. The top of the basket can be decorated with buttons, inscriptions, rhinestones and other accessories.

Folding basket

Can be used for linen, towels, bedding or dirty clothes as a laundry basket. When gluing fabric to cardboard, it is better to use silicone glue or a gun. It is plastic, connects materials well and does not become limp when high humidity(unlike PVA glue, for example).

More complex options baskets can be made on the basis of any materials:

  1. Wooden rods. To make such a basket you will need wooden slats 4 pcs., 60 cm long, 2 tubes of 40 cm, and 2 of 35 and fasteners - bolts and nuts. Next, a frame on legs is made from slats, to which a fabric base is then attached. She looks like big bag with hinges and attached to the frame. If necessary, the structure can be folded and it will take up minimal space.
  2. On a plastic frame. To do this, you can use a stationery bin (basket) made of plastic as a basis. Next, strips 3-5 cm wide are cut out of the fabric and trimmed (pasted) around the basket. You can put an embroidered laundry bag inside.

Wicker boxes and baskets are often used in households for storing laundry. They can be left in their original form, or decorated with fabric for beauty. When using drawers, you can make organizers divided into several sections. Their size depends on their purpose: for bath accessories you need to make larger compartments, for underwear - smaller ones.

Hanging basket

Another option for a fabric basket is a hanging one. In fact, it looks like a regular bag, only made of fabric. It can be closed with a lock, a button or not - as desired. The whole idea of such a basket is to mount it on the wall to save space. More often, such structures are used for dirty laundry and hung in the bathroom or closets.

In the end, it can be noted that many people are wondering how to sew a laundry organizer with their own hands from fabric or glued together from cardboard. In fact, it’s simple: you need to prepare a project, calculate the required dimensions, prepare materials and do it. Patterns and step-by-step instructions will depend on the model, size and type of organizer or basket.

Dresser organizer

You can purchase ready-made organizers, or you can use your imagination and use scrap materials to make original trays for small items - panties, socks, belts, etc.

We will need thick fabric (I had “teak” lying in my chest for about 20 years), 12 mm wide tape and thick cardboard, scissors (). We will make an organizer 36x36cm and 8 cm high. First of all, let's draw it, I decided to make 8 cells 9x9 and 4 cells 9x18. After everything is drawn, we begin to calculate how long we need to cut the strips for the internal partitions.

The first stripe consists of 1 horizontal and 1 vertical partition 9 cm each, which means equal to 18 cm plus allowances on both sides. How to calculate the rest is shown in the figure. We cut the strips 14 cm wide so that when folded they are 1 cm smaller than the main width of the organizer. Using a marker () we immediately make markings along which we will sew them together.
So, we need to cut:

Now we sew them according to the markings

We sew parts of the inner walls between the partitions, so that there is 0.5 cm from the top and bottom from the edge of the partition to the edge of the wall.

Sew on the outer walls and trim the top edge with tape

Sew the bottom and trim the edge with tape; if you want the organizer to fold, sew a zipper into the bottom diagonally from corner to corner.

Now we insert strips of cardboard into the walls and sew up the corners, again finishing the edges with tape.

Our organizer is ready

I hope my master class was quite informative and you liked it. Happy crafting!!!

Sometimes it takes a lot of time, effort and nerves to find the right item on the table. To avoid stress and quickly find this or that item, you need to properly organize storage in drawers. How to do it? We've found the coolest and fastest-to-implement ideas that will help you sort out even the biggest mess.

Cutlery storage

If cutlery items are stored in a drawer without dividers, then sooner or later they will mix with each other. To prevent this from happening, it is better to immediately ensure that forks, spoons and knives are stored separately. To do this, you can buy a special container with dividers at a kitchenware store, or make partitions yourself from plywood blocks. In this case, it is better to cover the bottom with a piece of non-woven tablecloth or stick a decorative film.

Storage of cosmetics

To store cosmetics in a drawer, you need to get plastic and metal containers different sizes. For convenience, it is recommended to put lipsticks and glosses in one container, place brushes and sponges for applying cosmetics in a separate jar, fix eye shadows and blush so that they do not fall off when opening and closing the drawer.

Little Helpers

To turn a drawer into a functional organizer, you don’t have to spend money on containers or look for special dividers. It's worth looking into the kitchen and seeing if there are any unwanted cardboard boxes from cornflakes or oatmeal. Boxes (and their lids) left over from buying shoes, a phone or other accessories will also come in handy. For beauty, they can be decorated with remnants of wallpaper, glued together and decorated in the same style.

Original solutions

If boxes, containers and dividers are not at hand, then the most common items that can be found in any kitchen will come to the rescue. For example, in almost any supermarket eggs are sold in cardboard cells, which after purchase are often simply thrown into the trash. In fact, they are convenient to fold paper clips, pins, erasers, keys, threads and much more.

You can quickly and easily make an organizer from a cardboard box. Select a box the right size for her to go into the closet. You can use one or more shoe boxes. Cover with fabric, use PVA glue. It will turn out very beautiful if you cover the box with napkins using the decoupage technique.

Measure the length and width of the box, using these dimensions, cut out strips 15-20 cm high from thick cardboard. Cover the parts with fabric. Mark them according to cell sizes. Install longitudinal partitions, fixing them to the bottom of the box with glue. On the crossbars, make slots according to the markings, not reaching the top 1 cm, and put on their main strips. The organizer is ready.

You can make a laundry organizer into your chest of drawers even faster. Cut cardboard partitions to the size of the box in which you plan to store linen, dividing the storage space into cells. Cells can be of any shape: square, diamond-shaped, rectangular.

Other options for a laundry organizer based on drawer. Instead of partitions, you can put small boxes, gluing them together. The cells can be multi-colored plastic mugs and jars connected to each other with glue.

Hanging organizer

A hanging organizer made of fabric will help free up space in your closet. It's just as easy to make as out of the box. You will need thick fabric and material for pockets. Cut out a fabric of the required size from thick fabric and sew pockets on it. For overhead details, you can use jeans pockets, multi-colored scraps, or transparent fabric. Sew the pockets in rows, then use finishing tape to edge the product around the perimeter. Throw the top of the organizer over the bar of the hanger and stitch it closed. You can hang this underwear organizer on the door or outside on the end wall of the closet.
