During this course, environment artist Nate Stevens will demonstrate techniques for modeling and sculpting elements of a 3D game environment.
The work will begin with a photo reference, first the author will focus on creating the concept environment, then will move on to the actual creation of the scene composition using Maya, and the final refinement of individual objects and elements will be done in Zbrush. To correctly import various objects into Zbrush, the GoZ plugin will be used, each individual element of the object geometry will be assigned a separate polygroup, and the corresponding subdivision level will be assigned. The basic shapes will be sculpted using Dynamesh, followed by finer details and textured noise added to the surface.
In the Maya environment, the author will create low-poly models, which will be finalized in Zbrush, where they will receive elements with a higher resolution and additional details.
The author will introduce you to the Zbrush tools used: Trim Dynamic brushes, Mask by Noise relief masking tools, various IMM brushes - with them he will add complex elements to low-polygon objects, this is the method used to create the ancient masonry. Nate Stevens will also demonstrate how to arrange elements into a tiled structure using Zbrush.
When creating sculptural elements for the columns, standard brushes will be used - they will work in conjunction with the symmetry of covering the entire circumference of their surface. To complete the sculpting of the objects in the scene, the author will add various elements with high resolution detailing.
At the next stage, retopology will be carried out and normal maps and AO will be created using the xNormal program.
The final refinement, assembly and visualization of the scene will be carried out using the Marmoset Toolbag, this will make it possible to assemble the scene from low-polygon elements, add real-time materials, normal maps and AO, while the lighting will be adjusted based on the corresponding images.
Although the main focus of this course is on sculpting and modeling game environment objects, its materials will be of interest to production artists, concept artists and anyone interested in creating realistic three-dimensional environments and architectural elements.

In this lecture, Environment Artist Nate Stephens will demonstrate how to model and sculpt assets to be assembled into a 3D environment. Starting with reference photography, Nate locks in on a concept for his environment before blocking in his scene layout in Maya and building reference objects that will be further refined and detailed in ZBrush. He then imports the various assets into ZBrush for detail sculpting using GoZ where he Polygroups the different pieces and defines the crease levels of the different parts of the model. Next, Nate begins roughing in his sculpt using Dynamesh in ZBrush. He begins by sculpting in some of the larger feature details before adding the higher frequency surface noise to the meshes. Returning to Maya, he generates low-resolution polygonal models of some detail pieces for his environment before taking these pieces into ZBrush to generate some high resolution details on top of the low resolution geometry. He adds further detail and refinement to the meshes using a variety of tools including trim dynamic brushes, masking by noise and then, using the Insert Multi Mesh (IMM) tool, he drops high resolution meshes onto his low res tools with simple brush strokes, creating the look of an ancient stone block wall. For smaller, repeating features in his scene, Nate demonstrates how to construct these assets in a tileable fashion in ZBrush. Finally, he moves onto designing architectural features to the columns in his scene using standard sculpt and symmetry tools before duplicating these features around his column to test for scale and prep the feature for further refinement later. He then adds features more to the columns before adding fine surface detail to the features and the columns as a whole. Once the hi-resolution sculpts are complete, Nate spends time doing some re-topology before baking normal maps and ambient occlusion maps using xNormal. To finish things off, he uses the real-time features in Marmoset Toolbag to assemble a quick scene. This enables him to fully visualize the assets by assembling the low resolution assets with the extracted normal and ambient occlusion maps with Marmoset’s real-time materials and image based lighting. Although this lecture is focused primarily on sculpting environment details for game art, it is also very accessible to film artists, concept artists, students or anyone interested in learning how to generate believable environment and architectural details for use in a 3D environment.

The assembly contains 2 mods that add to the game the ability to cut blocks into small ones and use them to build whatever your heart desires: from furniture to entire houses! One of these mods will allow you to use the furniture you have built for its intended purpose, i.e. By building something like a chest, such as a closet, you can add the ability to put things in it! You can also make a chair, bench, sofa or stool to sit on!

Those who don’t like making their own furniture will not be left out, because there are mods that will add just a huge amount of furniture, and most of them function! For example, MrCrayfish's Furniture mod will add useful furniture, and the Decocraft mod [Disabled by default, because... consumes a lot of RAM] will add decor, with very beautiful models!

The assembly includes the WorldEdit mod, which expands the construction capabilities several times! In addition, I found more than 3000 diagrams for it (schematic) with various buildings.

There is one very good mod, which will “round” your houses a little. It will add blocks to the game standard form. For example, round columns, balls, roofs, windows, railings, fences, etc.

Also, the assembly contains several mods that will help you build faster not only in creativity, but also in survival! For example, smart tools, which place several blocks at once (Easy to build big walls), an additional hot bar (the place where you select blocks), which will allow you not to look into your inventory every time you need a new block.

To make your buildings look even more beautiful, I added a Faithful 32x32 texture pack with support for modifications and 120 shaders to the build!

Eat 2 types client with different installation methods:


  1. Sculpting Engineer Installer.exe- Installer. Very convenient and fast installation, it is possible to remove a mod you don’t need, and it will also download faster than others, because he takes less space. (Default installation path: C:\Games\Sculpting Engineer, it can be changed)

Installation:

1. Download the assembly from the link below.
2. Open the start menu, enter %appdata% -> .minecraft, then transfer all files from the folder to another (or delete).
3. Then open the folder with your assembly and transfer all the files from it to the .minecraft folder without unzipping the files.
4. Launch Minecraft (In many builds, an email or the author’s nickname will be indicated instead of a nickname).
