How to make a USB fan from a cooler. How to make a USB fan using improvised materials? The main elements you will need during assembly

If there is no air conditioning at home and even household fan, A summer heat doesn’t allow you to live normally, you can use your wits and use old computer parts. Any craftsman can assemble a fan from a cooler, fortunately, the materials for construction are always at hand, and in every home or office you can fish out something useful from computer trash.

Materials for useful crafts

To make this simple DIY device, you will need following materials and tools:

  • soldering iron and related accessories (solder, rosin);
  • a piece of USB cable of any length;
  • knife, wire cutters, electrical tape;
  • the computer cooler itself (one or more).

The fan will be connected via a USB connector to the computer. This makes it possible to use the fan without third-party power sources.

There are coolers different sizes. Their design includes wires with which you can adjust the number of revolutions depending on the temperature of the central processor. In our case, these wires will not be needed - we will work only with the black (minus) and red (plus) wires, which receive voltage from motherboard computer. The remaining wires can be cut off using wire cutters so that they do not interfere with assembly. We need to do this carefully so as not to damage the red and black cores we need.

Operating procedure:

  1. Take any unnecessary USB cable you need to connect the cooler to it. It may not be formally working, but here we need to find wires of the same colors as the cooler. For ease of work, the remaining wires are removed using wire cutters.
  2. Remove the outer insulation from the USB cable with a sharp utility knife: measure a distance of approximately 3-4 cm from the end of the wire and apply the knife to the wire.
  3. Then, in a circular motion, without pressing, draw the wire in a circle.
  4. Now pull the insulation - it should easily come away and expose the bundle of wires.

If you press too hard, cutting the insulation may damage the wire insulation underneath the outer layer of plastic you cut. Then you will have to bite off the entire braid and repeat the procedure due to the fact that a slight violation of the integrity of the insulation usually leads to a short circuit. Now that you have prepared the wires yourself, you can proceed to the next step.

Soldering and insulating wires

Take the wires of the cooler and the USB cable, remove about 10 mm of insulation and twist them so that the red wire is connected to the red, and the black to the black. Next, you will need a soldering iron to tin the twisted ends and thereby give strength to the connection. To do this you need to do this:

  • heat the soldering iron and prepare a piece of rosin or flux;
  • attach the twisted wires to rosin or soak them in flux;
  • melt a piece of solder or tin on the soldering iron tip;
  • run the tip along the twisted wires if they are treated with flux, or apply them to a piece of rosin and press a little with a hot tip.

This process is called tinning the wires or treating the contact points with hot tin with your own hands. Rosin is needed to help the tin bond better to the surface of the bare USB wire.

Now you need to insulate the conductors so that a short circuit does not occur when connected to the computer’s USB connector. So, unwind a piece of electrical tape about 3-5 cm long and pass it between the soldered wires. Wrap one wire so that the tin-coated contact area is reliably insulated and no pieces of bare conductor are visible through the layers of insulating tape. Next, you need to cut off another piece of electrical tape and do the same with the second wire.

Stand

It's time to think about a stand for your DIY fan you just made. You will need a piece of copper or aluminum wire. Take a piece of wire and bend it into a “P” shape. Thread the ends into the bottom two bolt holes of the cooler. Bend the wire and thread the ends through the top holes. Now you can adjust the fan tilt level.

If there are many fans

You can make a whole battery of fans with your own hands. To assemble a fan from four or more coolers, you need to know how to properly connect them to the power source (USB connector of the computer), as well as how to connect these fans to each other.

Connecting cables

From the school physics course we know that there are two types of connections - serial and parallel. With the first type of connection, you need to take the red (positive) wire from the USB cable and connect it to the red wire of the first cooler, and connect the black wire of the first cooler to the red wire of the second cooler, and so on. The last one, black, connects to the core of the USB cable of the same color.

Parallel connection is much simpler: all the red wires are assembled into one twist, just like the black ones. The red wires are connected to the red wire of the USB cable, and the black wires, respectively, to the black wire. To make the contact more reliable, you need to make tinning and wrap the contact points with electrical tape, as described above.

Registration

Now you need to think about the design of the fan unit that you made yourself. In order to assemble all the coolers together, you need to decide what shape the structure will be in. You might find it easier to fold them into a square or just line them up.

In any case, for these purposes you will need glue gun, which is usually used to make DIY products in technical creativity or floristry circles. You can use it to glue the ribs of the coolers in the right places and let them cool. But if you don't have a gun and just have wire and tape, you can fasten the coolers through the bolt holes with wire and wrap the edges with black tape.

So, you have managed to make sure that making a simple room air blower with your own hands is simple and accessible even to a person far from technical creativity. Such simple solutions can help out in a situation where you need to keep the room cool in windless weather, but a regular fan is either broken or simply not in the house. In these cases, simple ingenuity comes to the rescue.

A USB cooler is a very ordinary fan, however, smaller in size, which connects to the corresponding connector on the computer. You can purchase a ready-made device or make it yourself, which is quite simple; the most important thing is to strictly follow the instructions.

How to make a fan

It is worth noting that this kind of technique is not considered particularly powerful, however, practice and numerous positive reviews convince us otherwise. Like any other device, such a fan has certain pros and cons.

The main advantages include the fact that:

  • It is compact;
  • Multifunctional:
  • It's easy to use;
  • You can make it yourself.

Among the main types of such fans you can find desktop and compact models. Desktop options They cope well with their main task and can efficiently cool computer parts even if it is used for a long time. USB mini fans are distinguished by their compact size. Their design can be absolutely anything, and in terms of power they are somewhat inferior to desktop models. Compact options are designed only for light cooling of equipment, while desktop models are designed for high-quality cooling of the room and the space around the computer.

This type of equipment has very few disadvantages, however, if a person does not have even the slightest idea about the operation of equipment and electronics, then he does not need to even try to make a fan at home.

In addition, it is worth considering that mini-models cannot regulate the direction of the air flow, and in order to solve this problem, you will have to put in a lot of effort. Working at a computer in summer time, many people suffer from extreme heat, even if there is an air conditioner, since it is not always convenient to turn it on.

To solve this problem, you can make a small fan out of:

  • Cooler;
  • Motor;
  • Small engine.

A homemade fan can also be connected to a car using a USB cable. Such homemade products can be very useful and can be made from unnecessary parts.

Initially, you need to take the old cooler and prepare it. It has two wires: black and red. Approximately 10 mm of insulation must be removed from each wire.

Important! How larger size cooler, the greater the wind flow will result.

You also need to prepare the USB wire by stripping the insulation on it. The result should be 2 red and 2 black wires. Then connect these wires to each other, taking into account color coding. Everything is well insulated. It is worth remembering that the more insulation, the better. Then attach to the received device additional elements, which will act as a means for greater cooling or simply decoration. For convenience, you can install the finished cooler in a shoebox to make it more stable and connect the wire to the computer. You can also make a fan using a motor from a toy or an engine as a base. This will allow for better cooling of the room.

There are many options self-made a fan that will work no worse than a purchased product.

A homemade fan can be made from:

  • Disk;
  • Thick paper;
  • Plastic bottle.

It's very easy to make a small fan from regular computer disks. It can be used to cool a computer or laptop, as well as a user who spends a lot of time working with technology.

To do this, you initially need to prepare such materials as:

  • CDs;
  • Motor;
  • Wine cork;
  • USB cable with plug;
  • Cardboard.

The motor can be taken from an old toy, for example, a toy car. The assembly process is quite simple. To do this, you need to take one disk and use a marker to divide it into 8 identical parts. Then draw a soldering iron along these lines from the transparent part to the edge and cut with a knife heated on the stove.

Lightly heat the surface of the disk over the flame of a burning candle so that the blades can be slightly expanded. Insert into the hole wine cork, fix and process the edges with hot glue.

Connect the USB cable to the motor. Make a tube out of cardboard, to which you glue the motor, as well as another whole disk, which will act as a stand. When everything is ready, attach the propeller to the motor shaft and fan rod. Secure it with hot glue. Despite the fact that the process of making it takes a lot of time, however, the result will definitely please you. The blades of the disk will rotate, resulting in good cooling. If necessary, you can install a mini flash drive and connect the watch. You can also make a battery-powered fan or power it by connecting a generator. It all depends on your own preferences and knowledge of technology and electronics. Such crafts are quite easy to implement; the most important thing is to do everything step by step and strictly follow the instructions.

Simple DIY fan

You can make your own quite original and stylish paper ceiling fan. This bladeless model is somewhat similar in appearance to a snail, which attracts buyers. However, it works very well and can be easily made by yourself. The operating principle of such a fan is quite simple, since at the base of the device there is a small turbine that helps create air currents passing through the side holes.

To create such a device you will need:

  • Computer cooler;
  • Old computer case with power and USB connector;
  • Switch;
  • Thick paper;
  • Hot glue gun.

First you need to make the base of the device. For this, thick cardboard or paper is used. The parameters must be taken into account based on the size of the cooler. Integrate a switch and power connector into the housing.

Then cut out two circles from paper that will act as the main part of the fan. They are attached to the body of the product. Assemble the device, fastening all parts with hot glue so that the cooler is located in the central part of the case. Place the wires in a corner of the structure. Then connect the switch and make a test connection to the network. If everything works, you need to attach parts cut out of paper to the body to make the device safe. Thus, the impeller will be located inside the device itself, which is completely safe during its operation. In addition, you can make a hood in almost the same way, however, you should use a powerful working compressor.

Methods: how to connect a cooler to USB

You can quite simply connect the cooler to the USB and you don’t need any specific knowledge or skills to do this.

This will require:

  • Computer cooler;
  • USB cable;
  • Insulating tape.

Initially, you need to carefully strip the wires on the cooler and the USB cable by about 1 cm each. Connect them together by color and if you have a soldering iron, then it’s best to solder them. Then you need to wind the electrical tape so that the wires are completely insulated, otherwise the USB port may burn out when the contacts are closed. After this, check the functionality of the cooler. In just a few minutes you can get a very good coolant.

How to make a fan with your own hands (video)

Making a fan yourself is not at all difficult. The most important thing is to choose the right materials and components, and also carry out all the steps step by step.

USB fan

And so, summer is approaching, and with it the heat. The problem of excessive heat in the room can be solved with an air conditioner or a fan to simply maintain air circulation. Also, if necessary, you can buy an inexpensive Chinese table fan, place it near the monitor and enjoy the movement of air in the direction you want.

But you can also do USB fan yourself. It will be cheap, practical, will require little time to manufacture, and to turn it on you just need to plug it into any free USB port.

In actual time, the entire manufacturing process will take 5-15 minutes. You don’t even have to read the article, everything is clear from the photographs :).

What you will need

1.

The main thing we need is the fan itself. Any fan for a system unit or processor will do, the main thing is that it has a stable design and can be placed on something. As an example, I took a 12 cm fan, without a sensor, for a system unit.

If you have a choice, it is best to take fans with the highest possible rotation speed, since the power supply for such fans requires 12 V, while the USB port only has 5 V power and, accordingly, the rotation speed will be slower. Rotation speed is measured in revolutions per minute (RPM) and can usually be found on the fan packaging or from the retailer, sometimes it is indicated on the fan itself. In my case, a fan with a rotation speed of 1200 RPM, when connected to USB it will be somewhere around 500-550 RPM, which is extremely low and only enough to create a small draft :). It is advisable to take fans with 2500 - 5000 RPM (some can operate up to 8000 RPM).

2.

Next, of course, you will need a USB cable. Any cord with a standard USB plug on one side will do, and no matter what connector on the other, we will cut it off anyway.

It could be a cord from an old printer, mobile phone, mouse or keyboard, basically anything. The length of the cord should not exceed 2m.

3.

We will need any insulating tape.

Well, or as a last resort, great and irreplaceable - adhesive tape, but I highly do not recommend it.

4.

Side cutters are also needed.

Well, or if there are none, then use something to cut off the wire and strip it of insulation. You can use, for example, scissors to cut the wire, and remove the insulation with any knife.

Manufacturing.

1.

We cut out the connector on the USB cable that we don’t need.

2.

Carefully remove approximately 3 cm of outer insulation from the cord so as not to damage the wires located inside. Usually, with a fairly sharp knife, apply slight pressure, around the wire and then pull out the cut part.

Under the insulation there are usually just 4 wires. In my case, the wire is shielded and in addition to 4 wires there is also foil and the screen itself, but this is not important.

3.

We cut off everything unnecessary, leaving only the red and black wires

4.

And carefully strip the remaining wires approximately 1 - 1.5 cm.

5.

We cut off the connector from the fan.

In my case, the fan is without a sensor, so there are only 2 wires, but if the fan has a speed sensor, then there may be 3 wires (a yellow one is added) or 4 wires if the fan is controlled, usually these are processor fans. It doesn’t matter how many wires you have, but if there are more than 2, then just like with a USB cable, leave only red and black ( if there is no red, then yellow and black), we bite off the rest a couple of centimeters.

6.

And carefully strip the wires from the fan in the same way as on the USB cable, by 1 - 1.5 cm.

7.

Twist the black and red wires together. DON'T BE CONFUSED! BLACK SEPARATELY! RED SEPARATELY!

8 .

We spread the wires apart so that they do not touch each other and wrap them with electrical tape.

What happened

That's all! The fan is ready for use! :)

Plug it into any USB port of your computer/laptop/tablet and enjoy the coolness!

Summer has arrived, which means heat, heat and an eternal lack of coolness. But this problem can be fixed, and quite easily. You only need a few details and a little free time to make your life easier with your own hands, to fill it with the slight coolness that you will certainly get by making a USB fan at home. Of course, you can go and buy a fan in a store, but how nice it will be to sit next to the same computer, and a light breeze from the USB fan you created will blow on you. And a thing created with your own hands always pleases not only the eye, but also develops self-love.

We invite you to watch a video of a homemade USB fan:

Tools for usb fan:
- A regular CD (not necessarily new);
- The tube of silicone glue is empty;
- Wooden block;
- Mini disk;
- USB cord;
- Motor;
- Holder;
- Adapter;
- Silicone glue gun.

You need to make three holes in the tube, one in the lid and two on the sides. Holes can be easily made using a regular nail, which must first be heated.

IN wooden block it is also necessary to make a slot or recess. This can be easily done using sandpaper.

The mini disk easily turns into a propeller. To do this, you need to draw it into uniform blades, then heat a stationery knife and cut along pre-drawn lines. And after that, we heat the base of each blade with a lighter and, using our hands, bend each blade a little to make a propeller.

We take the motor, holder and adapter from a non-working CD drive.

Now let's start assembling the USB fan.

Heat up the glue gun. Lubricate the holder along the axis with silicone glue from a glue gun. The propeller must be firmly seated on this glue. Press on all sides. Then, on the other side of the holder, add a drop of glue and glue the adapter. We wait until the glue dries well. This usually only takes a couple of minutes.

Now take a tube of silicone glue, remove the lid and coat the inside with silicone glue. And we insert the motor inside so that the part that we will connect sticks out of the hole that we originally made.

Then we insert the USB cord into the side hole of the glue tube and connect the ends of the wires to the motor.

You need to pour silicone glue into the recess in the wooden block, and place the wire from the USB cord tightly there, and glue the tube itself with the motor inside to the base of the block. And on the other side of the block we glue the CD with silicone glue.

Now the propeller needs to be placed on the side of the adapter glued to it onto the sharp edge of the motor, which sticks out of the hole in the tube from under the glue.

And finally, our USB fan can be plugged into the network and get that long-awaited coolness.

Let's be honest - how much time a day do we spend at the computer? Sometimes we don’t take a single step away from the monitor during the day. In the summer, when it’s 35 degrees outside, sitting at the computer becomes simply unbearable. And now we offer you a fan for making yourself. Anyone can assemble such a fan, and everyone can find the material for it. All we need is a CD disk - 2 pieces (it’s naturally better to choose disks that don’t work), a 3-6 volt electric motor (you can get it from a player, tape recorder or toy car), a wine cork, scissors, glue moment, and usb cable.

We take the disk and go to the kitchen, don’t forget to take the scissors. Turn on gas stove and hold the disk at a distance of 30 - 40 centimeters from the fire for about 5 - 10 seconds. This makes the disc softer. After that, take scissors and cut the disk into triangular slices exactly as in the photo.

After this, we give the triangles an inclination angle of approximately 20 - 30 degrees. Now our disk becomes like a propeller, or more precisely, like a turbine.

Next we take the motor and plug. In the center of the plug we make a hole where we must insert the motor shaft; before inserting the shaft, we need to coat it with glue. Next, we insert the plug together with the motor into the hole of the disk, and again coat it with glue. We leave the structure for half an hour so that the glue dries, while we make the fan stand. It is made from any suitable pipe 10 - 15 centimeters long. We attach our second CD disk to one end of the pipe using glue - it is necessary so that during operation our homemade fan stood firmly on the table. After half an hour, we take the motor with the propeller and glue to the pipe as shown in the photo.

Then we solder the plus and minus wires coming from the usb cable to the motor terminals and connect the cable to the computer. If your fan is blowing reverse side- swap the wires soldered to the motor. The thing is very interesting, it has stylish design and it looks very original, and most importantly - it was made with your own hands! Now you can not be afraid of the heat and sit quietly with your faithful friend for as long as you wish. The fan can run for days, and the motor will never overheat! I advise you to collect it - a very useful thing! Good luck - AKA
