Ethnic style - Indonesian interior. Indonesian styling in the interior Indonesian style furniture

Modern architecture and the interior design preserves these traditions. Almost all the cool hotels here were designed by designers and architects from Spain, Italy, Holland, Australia, and America. Modern European styles are clearly visible, but at the same time the traditions of the island are preserved. The design also features local ornaments and decorative items with a marine theme.

Next I will reveal in more detail exactly modern design in Bali, since it is closer to me, and this is the design that is quite realistic to make in a Moscow apartment or a house in a cottage village, which means it can be useful to you.

Modern furniture style in Bali (Indonesia) and interior design

Modern interiors on the island of Bali are those interiors that we see on the covers of fashionable interior magazines, as they are designed by designers and architects from Europe. Especially in the area in which I am lucky enough to live. This is the Seminyak area.

Have your own distinctive features interiors in Balinese modern style which I noted:

Bright (sometimes even “acid”) accents in the interior

Favorite geometric patterns are waves and stylized island vegetation.

Furniture

The best Balinese furniture is furniture made from solid wood (teak). Teak is a very picturesque wood. Furniture made from it is very pleasant to the eye and to the touch. This material itself serves as a decorative element of the interior.

Another amazing Balinese thing is wire wicker furniture and interior items. As always, in the spirit of Bali, everything is very bright and colorful. Such furniture will be a very cool accent, without cluttering up the space. Or can be used in landscape design. All this beauty costs very little money - about 3000-4000 rubles.

Tabletops and decor made of suar wood

This tree reaches enormous sizes, so tabletops made from solid suar are a monolithic cut of a huge tree. These tabletops reach such dimensions that it is difficult to imagine the size of the tree from which this piece was cut. These countertops can be found everywhere, both in expensive hotels and luxury restaurants, and in cheap local cafes.

They also sell cuttings of teak and suar roots, which, after processing, turn into an art object. In Russia, such a thing would cost a colossal amount of money. Here, it seems, this is not the most expensive pleasure.

Stone

Stone is a natural material, of which there is a lot on the island. Most often I came across granite of several shades, less often beige marble, and the most commonly used is volcanic stone of black-graphite color.

This stone is used everywhere, both in traditional and modern interiors. It makes interesting bathtubs and sinks. This is another feature in Bali that is very inexpensive. For example, a stone sink in a hardware store on the Highway costs 670 thousand rupees, about 2,600 rubles (the price of a hardware supermarket).

Lamps

Lamps by designer Tom Dixon are very popular in interiors. Moreover, they make them themselves by hand from copper. It looks special and costs very little money. There are also interesting light models from European designers who live and work in Bali. As I understand it, everything can be copied. I will cover this point in more detail in the second part of the article.

I liked the “eco-series” models. That's what I nicknamed them =)

This desk lamp, at the base of which are teak roots, bamboo, or volcanic stone, and on top is a simple white lampshade. This item is sold almost everywhere.

Ceramic tile self made

Hand-painted tiles can be found on the streets of the island. It is sold by craftsmen on the road, as are tabletops, lamps and sculptures. There are very interesting tile models with bright patterns.

Decor - paintings and figurines

There are a lot of artists in Bali, whose paintings can be bought from $30. What impressed me most was the bright posters and signs. The posters are reminiscent of Soviet ones in style, only with local motifs in the images - with what they do in Bali - rice harvesting, ceremonies, surfing. Such paintings can be a cool accent in the interior.

Signs with inscriptions, decorative small surfs - all this can be bought inexpensively here.

As for furniture and decor, there are things of different quality and price. Closer to tourist places, naturally it costs more and more, but in terms of quality I can say - at the European level. What is sold in the center of the island, say in Ubud, can be found at very low prices, but I don’t recommend buying furniture there, because the build quality, of course, suffers. It is very important to understand and check how dry the wood is and how it is processed, since not everything that is sold on the streets of the island is suitable for the Russian climate. Differences in humidity can cause teak to crack and come apart.

The Balinese are very talented people. They have golden hands because they follow their ancient traditions and are forced to pass on their skills from generation to generation. Therefore, you can find the most unusual decor from the locals. From it, European masters of design and architecture are already designing modern interiors, using the talents of the local people and the beauty of the island's surroundings. I think this is how this “modern Balinese style” appeared in the interiors of the island.

The combination of several directions at once and a variety of details are the main factors that characterize the Indonesian style in the interior. Reproducing this theme, like any ethnic decor, is not at all easy. Here you cannot get by with a set of figurines or paintings; you will have to take into account everything - from the materials used to the auxiliary details. This design cannot be classified as a group universal species design, only those who are truly imbued with Indonesian culture and accept its versatility can appreciate it.

  • Beds can be used not only for night use, but also for day use. The first ones are traditional designs, only with supports for the frame on which it is mounted mosquito net. The second ones are more like massive chests in which things are stored, and in the daytime they are used for short, refreshing sleep.
  • It is difficult to imagine an Indonesian home without special chairs - these are rattan products with smooth curves and narrow armrests. They can be decorated with complex carvings.
  • The maximum authenticity of Indonesian decor will be provided by massive cabinets made of dark wood, covered with carvings and gilding. They are decorated with carvings in the form of ancient symbols or plant motifs.
  • IN modern houses You can use wicker furniture. It does not take up much space, looks appropriate and light, is highly functional and does not require special care.

To truly convey Indonesian style in the interior, you must follow the following rules:

  • White or beige colors are usually used to decorate walls. Against such a background, decorative items in calm red and green shades look especially attractive and appropriate. Ceilings and floors are often decorated with mahogany or light-colored materials. But the furniture should be dark, almost black. Upholstery of any color is allowed (textile or leather).
  • The main requirements for materials are naturalness and environmental friendliness. When choosing textiles, you can use contrasts (a combination of black and white) or prefer national Indonesian patterns (plant theme, zigzags).
  • Indonesian style is based on the presence of free space. Windows do not need to be hidden behind massive multi-layer curtains. If the room needs to be isolated from the outside world, it is better to use very light curtains that will not weigh down the overall image. Another interesting option– use of printing on panels. It can be a beautiful landscape that will only decorate the room.
  • All modern details(such as radiators, pipes and sockets) it is recommended to cover them with mahogany panels.
  • Particular attention is paid to the arrangement of furniture. It should not accumulate around the perimeter. The design should start from the center of the room, focusing attention on it with a table or sofa. Only items intended for storing things are placed in corners and against walls.
  • No need to be afraid of using auxiliary decorative elements. If it is not possible to choose something related to Indonesian culture, you can limit yourself to flowers. Beautiful paintings, vases with compositions of fresh flowers, pots with house plants - everything will look appropriate, complementing the main decor.
  • In Indonesia, various crafts are highly respected, so carved figurines or lamps, homemade pillows or rugs will not fall out of the overall look.

Indonesia attracts many precisely because of its multifaceted culture, which combines the original combination of traditions from the countries of the East, in particular India. In the interior, the Indonesian style used is sometimes perceived as rough, but if you use the right design approach, the decor of the room can be truly impressive.

When choosing an interior in a colorful Indonesian style for your apartment, you should follow the recommendations of experts. Only then will it be possible to convey the natural flavor of an exotic state without excessive intrusiveness. A high professional level when decorating a room can always be maintained if you invite a designer who is well acquainted with Indonesian traditions to renovate the apartment. However, you can try, adhering to the basic rules, to create a similar interior yourself.

In Indonesian interiors, a fairly light range of colors is usually used. For walls choose creamy and beige shades, they are perfectly complemented by green and red decorative items and accessories.

However, you can't go wrong if you choose to use light-colored boards.
